As editor of Las Vegas Magazine, I’ve had many memorable experiences in Las Vegas. But by far one of the most indelible has to be my backstage tour following a performance of Blue Man Group at Luxor. In addition to getting to check out the inner workings, I got the opportunity to meet the members of that night’s performance, still clad in their costumes and wearing that now-iconic blue paint on their faces and hands. What made it so memorable? Well, these famously silent performers opened their mouths and spoke to me! For someone who’s seen the show eight times, it was ... surreal, much like their amazing show.

This week’s issue of Las Vegas Magazine highlights this incredible troupe, delivering bumps and beats while employing physical comedy, audience interaction and various foodstuffs in a show unlike anything you’ve ever seen (“Here, There, Everywhere,” p. 30).

If you’re a fan of ’80s music (and really, who isn’t?), one of the true icons of that era, Cyndi Lauper, brings her considerable talents—and considerable catalog—to the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in an ongoing series of concerts (“Bringing Her True Colors,” p. 20).

It’s inevitable that on any vacation at least one meal will be a pizza pick from all involved. May we suggest one place to hit up if you’ve got that pie craving? Richie Palmer’s Mulberry Street Pizzeria of Beverly Hills. You want a real East Coast pizza with simple yet incredibly delicious ingredients and an experience that’ll be a highlight of your Vegas vacation—this is the spot.

“We’re real New Yorkers coming in and bringing our pizza,” said Darren Tripicchio, general manager. “… Our focus on that balance with the sauce, the cheese, the dough—really old-school New York pizza, that old-school New York Bronx pizza, that’s what it’s based on. (It’s) a very thin crust and crispy. And it’s all about the balance and the ratio between the dough, the sauce and the cheese. It’s an art. The balance of the three is what makes a pizza excellent.”

Tripicchio’s family has been pumping out pies all over Southern California for more than three decades, bringing their authentic flavors—many of the recipes come from his grandmother’s kitchen—with the sauce, the ziti and the salad dressings.

The cheese and pepperoni pies will more than satisfy, but we also suggest trying Mulberry’s specialty pies, which have been so popular that they’ve become part of the permanent menu. The bulgogi pizza is a Korean barbecue-style pizza with bulgogi beef in a made-in-house marinade, onions, scallions and homemade spicy mayo, while the carne asada pizza includes carne asada steak, pico de gallo, cilantro, salsa verde sauce and a made-in-house cilantro aioli drizzle.

“Please come visit us and you’ll see—a lot of people tell us we’re the best,” Tripicchio said. “We never abandon quality; it’s always going to be top-notch.”

This upscale Korean barbecue spot on the Strip opens its wine rooms for a next-level experience

It’s de rigueur that a good steakhouse will have a good wine program. Then you have the next level in Las Vegas, the finest cuts of meat paired with the finest vintages. Strip retail center adds several exciting new tenants

The coolest new shopping center on the Las Vegas Strip, BLVD Las Vegas, just upped its game with the addition of five new tenants, and they run the gamut from fashion and home goods to dining.

BLVD Las Vegas is already home to fun retailers like H&M, JD Sports and Pandora, but now it adds Boot Barn, an all-inclusive Western wear brand featuring boots, apparel and accessories from Ariat, Wrangler and Justin, among many others (sure to be a hit around rodeo season!); and Sunglass Hut, an

eyewear retailer with premium designer and performance sunglasses from brands including Ray-Ban, Oakley and Prada. (If you’re hitting the pools, stop here first.)

And joining great eateries like How Ya Dough’n (which specializes in scratchmade New York-Neapolitan sourdough pies crafted with an 8- to 12-day wild yeast fermentation process) will be TENSHOU, an elevated Japanese dining experience; and Silverlake Ramen, known for its rich broths and modern takes on traditional ramen dishes.

Bringing Her True Colors

Pop icon to perform a series of Strip concerts

For a generation, Cyndi Lauper practically defined the zaniness, all-out fun and colorful outfits of the 1980s. Generations of artists from Katy Perry to Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj owe her a great debt, but she’ll show that a particular girl still just wants to have fun of her own when she hits the Strip for a series of what are sure to be unforgettable shows.

Lauper soared to the highest heights in 1983 with the release of She’s So Unusual, a monster album that produced four top-five hits and led to videos that

are still revered by fans to this day. (Her video for “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” is recognized as one of the best of the ’80s by numerous outlets.) She also became a worldwide figure in the World Wrestling Federation, becoming the manager of Wendi Richter and casting famous figures in some of her videos.

But that was just the beginning for Lauper, who has since starred in movies and television, appeared on Broadway and composed the music and lyrics for Broadway musical Kinky Boots, which

won multiple Tony Awards. And all the while Lauper has been producing albums and building on her already-impressive legacy, which includes support of samesex marriage and fighting to end youth homelessness. Lauper has made a career out of being so unusual, and that’s a very, very good thing. –Ken Miller

Spring might be in full swing, but in Las Vegas the warmer temps also mean pool season has begun—in the city that offers the best of the best in daylife. Think nightclubs under the sun with world-renowned DJs, luxurious cabanas, the best in audio-visuals, beautiful cocktail servers, specialty cocktails and champagne showers and party atmospheres that make for a memorable Las Vegas experience. Stadium Swim at Circa Resort & Casino. This pool is unlike any other in the city—multiple levels of cabanas and daybeds, six pools, two enormous owner’s suites, table games, swim-up bar, daily DJs and the focal point of it all, a ginormous 40-foot-tall high-definition screen broadcasting all manner of sports. Go Pool at Flamingo. While not new to the scene, this pool club received a massive redesign last season, and the results are stunning. The space has been elevated to chic surrounds while keeping its chill welcoming party vibes. Guests can now enjoy private cabanas with dipping pools, in-water daybeds, VIP pools with more of a secluded, upscale feel, 50-foot waterfall topped by the DJ booth, huge swim-up bar and a retro, art deco design combined with a tropical theme. A new specialty cocktails and food menu was also added to the amenities, and DJs perform daily.

Omnia nightclub at Caesars Palace is expanding its brand and acreage by adding Omnia Dayclub & Skybar to its offerings. Grand opening weekend kicks off May 15 with a special performance by Fisher, Rüfüs Du Sol (May 16) and Martin Garrix with Justin Mylo (May 17). The club is elevated right above Las Vegas Boulevard and designed with the luxury and vibes of beach clubs like Mykonos, Ibiza and St. Tropez.

Sports fans will have a poolside paradise to hang this season with the opening of Tailgate Beach Club at Mandalay Bay. With more than 125 feet of LED screens, a 360-degree viewing experience will immerse guests in all the gameday action. The theme is sports, sports, sports, as all the big games will be broadcast and cabanas will stock PlayStations, beer pong, ping pong and foosball. The pool club opens May 16 with a special performance by Snoop Dogg.

General manager of hot pot hot spot reminisces on career

Life has comes full circle for Luqi Xu, general manager for the newly opened Copper Sun at Resorts World Las Vegas.

As he grew up in China, one of Xu’s favorite restaurants was Happy Lamb, a hot pot brand with more than 700 restaurants spread across the country. Last year, the brand made its debut in Las Vegas with Copper Sun, its first-ever fine-dining concept, and Xu is running the restaurant. “It’s like a circle,” he says. “I never thought one day I’d be working at one of my favorite childhood restaurants.”

Xu brings many years of experience to running Copper Sun. He started working in restaurants long ago in L.A., where his parents owned a Chinese dumpling restaurant. When his family moved to Las Vegas in 2011, he began a career on the Strip, first as a busser at properties like SAHARA Las Vegas and Wynn. After lots of hard work and a goal of running restaurants, he moved into a management role at X Pot at The Venetian Resort.

“I love to guide guests through our experience,” Xu says. “I love to see the

Eataly Las Vegas combines shopping, cuisine, and casual and fine dining into one integrated whole

If you haven’t traveled to Italy in a while, Vegas has got you, with world class restaurants up and down the Strip channeling that cuisine. One of the best representations of Italy’s diverse offerings is at Eataly Las Vegas at Park MGM, a marketplace that encompasses everything from wine and fine dining to piping hot pizza and street foods.

Just as if you were on vacation in Italy, you may want to sleep in, then

venture out for a morning espresso—in Eataly, Caffé Lavazza offers breakfast items and coffee starting at 7 a.m. (and is open until late evening, if you need a charge then). Nearby, the pastry counter offers lighter bites for breakfast.

During the morning, stop back in to peruse the shelves of the market area, where you’ll find a good selection of wines, food products from tomato sauce and pasta to olive oil and coffee,

and gift items like branded tote bags, cooking accessories and more. Grab a snack, too, from one of the street food kiosks, like roasted potatoes, arancini and more from Il Fritto, hearty slices from La Pizzeria, meatball sandwiches and burgers from Le Polpette, and meat and cheese boards from La Salumeria. These mini restaurants all feature quick service and make for a great early lunch as well,

also grab a refreshing drink at one of Eataly’s bars.

Eataly Bar offers a sweeping bar and patio-style seating all around for an easy pasta or pizza, great for a full lunch or midafternoon snack and glass of wine. We definitely recommend the margherita pizza and focaccia e salumi!

For a more restaurant-style meal, stop in at La Pizza & La Pasta, a full, bustling restaurant with a pizza oven

insalata cavolo nero with Tuscan kale. There are plenty of pastas and pizza, making this a good spot for both lunch and dinner. Pasta dishes include both daily housemade pasta and imported Italian pasta, with seasonal barbabietola ravioli with red beets, tagliatelle alla Bolognese with a beef and pork ragu.

And now through June 24, the restaurant will showcase its carbonara program, with the pasta available four ways, including classic with ingredients like guanciale, asparagus, tartufo (truffle) and wild gulf shrimp. Pizza has a choice of doughs, with traditional preparations of margherita and quattro formaggi, but unusual varieties, too, like diavola dolce, featuring smoked mozzarella, spicy salami, whipped ricotta, Mike’s Hot Honey and basil.

For fine dining, head to the intimate Toscana after 5 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday, where reservations are normally essential, for an evening of relaxed cocktails, wine and spritzes, plus wagyu carpaccio, calamari alla griglia, butternut squash gnocchi, pan-seared salmon, N.Y. strip steak and grilled yellowtail. But the showstopper here is most definitely the signature Bisteca alla Fiorentina, a large, luscious porterhouse, perfect for two. Sommelier recommendations keep your wine choices way manageable.

And for a dessert? Maybe classic tiramisu or house-made gelato. But for

opening around 11 a.m. or noon—and there’s plenty of seating all around. For more substantial plates, try La Carne y il Pesce, with meat and shrimp skewers, raw bar offerings, steaks, tuna, salmon and more. La Pasta Fresca offers pasta plates from pasta rolled out at the stand. Each has beverages, but you can

Blue Man Group venture into the audience— and your subconscious—in this hypnotic, hilarious show

When you settle into your seat at the Blue Man Theater inside Luxor, before the lights drop and before anyone takes the stage, an electronic ticker scrolls across screens on either side of the proscenium, prompting the audience to do things: wish a stranger happy birthday, high-five someone nearby, acknowledge the person sitting next to you. No one explains it, and no one needs to. Somehow, hundreds of strangers comply—and just like that, the show has already begun.

By the time the Blue Men appear—three highly kinetic performers in cobalt greasepaint, eyes doing all the talking, radiating a kind of wide-open childlike curiosity—you’re already primed

for something different. That’s the quiet trick behind Blue Man Group’s longevity. The show, which launched Off-Broadway in New York in 1991 before planting its Las Vegas flag at the Luxor in 2000, strips performance down to the basics: rhythm, color, gobs of marshmallows and human reaction, all delivered without a single word of dialogue. There’s no plot to untangle. All you have to do is sit back and let it wash over you.

The soundtrack is propulsive, percussive and built from the most unlikely materials: PVC pipes as drums, paint as rhythm, the whole thing hitting you from every direction at once. As the sound builds and layers, you find

yourself somewhere between a concert and an art experiment: smoke rings drifting into the air, LED lasers pulsing through the theater, the bass landing somewhere in your chest. It’s a full

sensory immersion that never tips into overload. Fair warning to anyone in the front rows, make use of the poncho! The paint, of which there’s plenty, doesn’t always stay onstage.

Neither do the Blue Men. They move through the theater, slipping into aisles, walking on top of seats, pausing mid-row, locking eyes with audience members like they’ve just discovered a new species. A performer might settle beside you and study your reaction with unnerving patience, stretching the silence until it becomes the joke. Another might recruit a volunteer and build an entire sequence around them, transforming an ordinary audience member into the center of something gloriously absurd. There’s nothing to hide behind, just your willingness—or reluctance—to play along. (Confession: My friend and I shrank into our seats, silently negotiating with the universe not to get picked.)

Meanwhile, cameras project the whole spectacle onto onstage screens, and the crowd’s reaction feeds back into the room like a loop, each wave of laughter building on the last. The theater itself, designed to feel intimate despite its size, amplifies all of it. There’s no real distance between performer and audience, and that’s precisely the point.

The show closes with a group selfie, Blue Men front and center, their painted faces deadpan against a theater full of grinning strangers. It’s a fitting send-off for a show that has been synonymous with Las Vegas for a reason and one of its longest-running. No words, no plot, no explanation required. Just show up and let the fun take over.

The palatial Imperial Sky Villa at Westgate Las Vegas celebrates icon Elvis Presley

This year would have been Elvis Presley’s 91st birthday, but since the King of Rock ’n’ Roll passed at just 42, the pelvis that belonged to Elvis is only a fond memory. But in his short tenure, he is still the biggest-selling solo artist of all time. And besides Graceland, no other place in the world is synonymous with Elvis more than Las Vegas. It was his 1969 concert series that helped open The International hotel (that is now the Westgate Las Vegas) and established Elvis’ reign over the city—with 636 consecutive sold-out shows over a span of seven years. In 2025, in honor of his 90th birthday, the property launched its “Year of Elvis” celebration, and that included the unveiling of the Imperial Sky Villa that has been decorated with Elvis images and storytelling plaques throughout. The four-bedroom, five-bathroom, 13,200 square-foot suite sits on the top floor of the hotel and was once called the “Elvis Presley Suite” because it’s where the superstar lived during his historic run of shows. Not only do guests get to explore the new design touches dedicated to Elvis, but they can walk in his footsteps.

Walking through the double doors to the suite, guests are first greeted with a beautiful, huge living space. Fun fact: The suite has since been reconfigured since Elvis slept there, but the living space is where his bedroom once was, so guests get to literally stand where he once slept. (What is now the giant fireplace was where his bed used to sit.) Another cool feature in the living space is a plaque of the original blueprints of the top floor of the hotel, including Elvis’ suite. You can see where the bedrooms were, the kitchen and dining room, terrace and where his bandmates slept. There was even a lounge on the top floor called the Skyroom, where Elvis and friends would spend time partying and performing. This space is also where you’ll spot the first photograph of Elvis—from July 28, 1969, a backstage shot of him prior to his first show at The International.

For a movie night, settle into the media room. For a dip, there’s a private pool with deck for sunbathing, lounging and eating. Each room has a gas-lit fireplace and hand-painted murals on the walls. Multiple floor-to-ceiling windows allow for unbeatable views of the city and beyond.

Spa-inspired bathrooms in the two master suites are huge and unbelievable in their design with marble-walled showers, double vanities, walk-in closets, step-down Jacuzzi tubs, his and her water closets, fireplaces and luxurious toiletries.

Check out the series of three photographs of Elvis at a press conference after his first performance at The International. It includes a transcript of questions from reporters, and his responses. Questions like, “How long do you rehearse for these shows?” “How do you choose the songs for the show?” “Why have you led such a secluded life all these years?” “Is it true you dye your hair?” and the question, “Elvis is there any other individual you’d rather be?” and his answer, “Are you kidding me???”

When something lasts a long time in Las Vegas, there’s good reason. In a city full of entertainment and dining options, becoming an institution means providing guests from all walks of life an exemplary experience that leaves them with a sense of satisfaction.

Gospel Brunch at House of Blues inside Mandalay Bay is one such institution. Since its inception more than two decades ago, the all-you-can-eat buffet and live entertainment experience has been uplifting local artists and filling bellies with delicious food.

Though the word “gospel” refers to the teachings of Christ and the content of the show comes from the Christian faith, it’s important to know this is not an exclusionary event. Host Patti Pennington and a rotating cast of choir singers, quartet singers, soloists and instrumentalists seek to uplift anyone who joins for the morning gathering.

“He’s a universal god. We don’t put Him in this box, which makes Him be presented to everybody, whomever they chose to (worship), whether it’s Allah, whether it’s Catholic, whether it’s

whoever,” says Pennington. “The good thing about our music and His music is it is universal. Everybody can relate to hallelujah, salvation and glory … And then the excitement that we bring in the show—we make you dance and laugh. So, it’s not just straight church.”

The truth in Pennington’s words is incredibly apparent the moment guests step foot in the venue, as there’s a welcoming sense of community and curiosity that fills the room almost as much as the irresistible scents of bacon and maple syrup. Then, when talented performers begin to belt spirited serenades from the stage, the impulse to join the revelry is undeniable.

“Music is medicine, music is life … So many people, especially nowadays, are going through so much. So their soul is yearning for maybe a song or maybe some words to inspire them, encourage them, or prepare what they want to say,

but they don’t have the exact words,” Pennington says. “That’s why I always say it feeds your soul, because whatever you’re yearning for, if you came there depleted, you’re going to leave so full. It’s full of joy, full of laughter, full of abundance, full of love.”

While Pennington and her crew feed souls, the House of Blues kitchen staff is hard at work feeding grateful patrons. Find an irresistible array of creole-inspired bites like jambalaya and chicken and waffles offered alongside breakfast classics like omelets and biscuits and gravy.

“I’ve had waffles before, but there’s something about the way they cook the waffles. It’s so amazing, they have a buttery taste,” Pennington says. “And the bacon … I don’t know where or how they cook this bacon, but (it must be) a certain way they cook it because it’s so freaking good.”
