Strip fine art gallery explores animal mummification

You’ve no doubt heard of the famous King Tut exhibit. (There’s also a Vegas version at Luxor that replicates Howard Carter’s 1922 archaeological find.) And no doubt you’ve seen any countless one of the horror and action movies dedicated to mummies. But for all the attention human mummification has received over the last 100-plus years, what about animals? Well, wonder no more, as the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art’s current exhibit explores that very thing.

Soulful Creatures: Animal Mummies in Ancient Egypt, on display until Sept. 13, brings together nearly 100 artifacts, including 36 mummified animals and more than 60 significant Egyptian masterworks that demonstrate their role in ritual and religion.

The exhibit is divided into four categories: beloved pets; food offerings preserved for the afterlife; divine embodiments of deities; and votive gifts intended to carry prayers to the heavens. The mummies themselves, unearthed from more than 30 cemeteries during the 19th and 20th centuries, span Egyptian history from as early as 760 B.C.E. through the second century C.E. Exhibit offerings include:

• A wood coffin gilded in silver, gold

and rock crystal and containing an ibis mummy.

• A seated statuette of King Pepy I on his alabaster throne, wearing the tall white crown of Upper Egypt royalty, with the falcon of Horus peering over his shoulder.

• A crocodile mummy. Ancient Egyptians would present them to the god Sobek in hopes of gaining his assistance with everyday challenges.

• A lion image carved during a period (3300-3100 B.C.E.) when kings were known to bury lions near their tombs. Images of lions were associated with powerful deities like Sekhmet and Bastet.

“This exhibition celebrates the timeless bond between humans and animals,” said Demecina Gray, MGM Resorts’ director of art and culture. “These extraordinary mummies reveal how creatures were not only companions, but also sacred symbols woven into the spiritual life of ancient Egypt. Soulful Creatures invites visitors to rediscover the powerful role animals played in faith, ritual and the journey beyond death.” –Ken Miller

Nuclear Revelations

An iconic figure now has a name, thanks to the relentless research of this Las Vegas historian

It’s hard to imagine a spectacle that could top showgirls and Sinatra in 1950s Las Vegas, but the Nevada Test Site, where nuclear weapons testing produced fascinating mushroom clouds viewable from casino rooftops, drew curious visitors to the city in droves. Atomic Museum Vegas offers a deep dive into this part of Vegas’ storied history, and it recently unveiled a new exhibit centered around Anna Lee Mahoney, more famously known as Miss Atomic Bomb, whose likeness was widely recognizable but whose identity remained anonymous until historian Robert Friedrichs solved the mystery.

What prompted your 25-year-long search for Miss Atomic Bomb’s true identity?

When they were building the museum, they talked about using that photo for marketing purposes. I thought it would really be neat if she were still alive and we were able to contact her, have her come to the opening and let her see how important that photo has been for the development of Las Vegas. Unfortunately … she had passed away before that decision was made. So it’s not 25 years (gone to) waste, but it’s nice to have the recognition finally documented and out there.

Why is it so important that this figure has a name?

I thought that her family needed to know. Unfortunately, she had no children. She was married, but her husband had passed away a few years before her. In doing the research, trying to track her down, we were looking at combinations of names … We lucked out when we were working with a combination and found a cousin’s daughter. The mother and the daughter are still alive, and I had included the pictures in the letter that I sent, explaining the fact that we were trying to get an identification on her … She unfortunately didn’t have any (pictures) and I asked her, what was her maiden name? That’s when everything broke loose. That’s when we got her birth certificate, we got her Social Security record, and on the Social Security record, another name associated with that number was Lee Merlin (her stage name).

When that dam burst, I’m sure that was an exciting moment. Oh, yes. When you have no name other than a stage name … that still doesn’t get you anything, you know? So we really were lucky. I did a presentation (at Atomic Museum) on the different iterations of Miss Atomic …

and at the end of the lecture, I always would say, “Now, are you ready to help me find out who it is?” And lo and behold, there was a DRI (Desert Research Institute) employee that was sitting in the back of the room. She immediately went upstairs and started searching, and she found an obituary that indicated (Merlin) had been a showgirl at the Sands Hotel … and that struck a bell for me. That one comment would lead me to who her dance instructor was … who identified that she was in California at the key time period where Lee Merlin was popping up in news articles and photos as being there … and she was registered as a voter with her stage name. It was just pure coincidence that I had asked that question.

Can you recall seeing Miss Atomic Bomb used widespread, or was this one marketing instance that just took off?

Actually, they didn’t use that photo in the first press release. They used a different one, and it was a small picture in one newspaper. Then they went out with this one, and that’s the one the public went crazy over ... And the other issue is that this is such a controversial picture. People have written articles on it and said that she was nude, except for the mushroom cloud. You can see the swimsuit, but people’s imagination just ran with it, and that is considered one of the 100 best photos ever taken. –Em Jurbala

Make plans for St. Patrick’s Day at this one-stop spot

Consider O’Sheas the mothership for all things St. Patrick’s Day. In fact, the holiday is celebrated all year long with authentic Irish pub offerings and decor. The hot spot has so many good reasons to visit, from table games and beer pong to several bars (one along The Linq Promenade), live music, proper Guinness pours and a nice brown spirits selection.

Tables games include roulette and blackjack, and several beer pong tables are located for use inside and outside the venue. You can also order beers and

cocktails at the outdoor Blarney Bar. Don’t pass up one of O’Sheas’ most popular specialty cocktails, the Frozen Baileys with Baileys Irish cream, milk and chocolate and coffee flavoring.

But this week, March 13-17, it’ll be over-the-top St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, starting with Guinness and green beer for just $5! On the actual holiday, O’Sheas welcomes back-to-back bands starting at 4 p.m., featuring The Whisky Fiddler and the Brick Top Baggers. And The Linq Promenade gets in on the

holiday fun on March 17 with roaming bagpipers from noon-4 p.m. and themed decor set up throughout the entire outdoor area. Many of the Promenade’s tenants are also serving green beer.

So, if you really want to party this St. Patrick’s Day, you need to make your way over to O’Sheas and The Linq Promenade. And don some green so you’ll get some kisses! –Kiko Miyasato

A Journey Worth Taking

History comes alive at this Strip attraction dedicated to the fated ship’s tale

The Ship of Dreams is brought to life in an impressively curated space that tells the story of one of history’s most tragic tales. Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition is an attraction that takes visitors through a series of themed rooms packed with more than 350 items recovered from the wreck site from beneath the North Atlantic Ocean.

In April 2025, in honor of the 113th anniversary of Titanic’s sinking, the exhibit unveiled a never-before-seen item recovered in 1994. On display near the beginning of the tour, visitors can view the Kilroy stoking transmitter, a sophisticated piece of technology for 1912—it is what essentially regulated the heartbeat of Titanic. The Kilroy would transmit precise time signals to all the crew in the boiler rooms, telling them how long to allow the coal to burn before shoveling in a new load.

Every visitor begins their journey with a “Boarding Pass” with details on a specific passenger. As visitors continue the journey through the exhibition, a series of rooms hold re-creations of third- and first-class cabins, the Grand Staircase and the promenade deck. Read menus of meals served and view photos of dining halls, lounge areas and libraries.

Particularly striking is the Big Piece (pictured)—a section of the outer hull from the C Deck cabin, rooms C-79 and C-80, which covered a suite of wardrobe rooms and private baths. This is the largest section of Titanic ever recovered. Something about the broken glass still attached to the portholes brings about a haunting reminder of the rushing water that barreled through the portholes as the ship began to sink.

At the end, you encounter a memorial wall with crew and passenger names on it. It’s here you’ll find out whether the person on your Boarding Pass survived or perished. It’s a powerful moment. –Kiko Miyasato

Catch-Up Time

Hit the bar for an incredible special at this Italian restaurant

Know how you sometimes want a quick, easy-peasy option for dinner? You know, a girl dinner? In Vegas, that’s sometimes easier said than done. But at Carmine’s Las Vegas, you can get that through the end of March with its special offering, The OGD (Original Girl Dinner), at an excellent price (and no, you don’t need to be a girl).

This restaurant has a vibrant, energetic environment that’s based off the New York original, with dark woods, high ceilings and a two-story dining area. It’s

known for generous family-style portions and delicious Italian food. The OGD menu, which includes a huge Caesar salad and shoestring-style fried zucchini to share, pictured, plus a choice of an espresso martini or a dirty martini for $28.95 per person, is only available at the bar or at the high-tops nearby. Both cocktails are quite delicious, perfect to start your meal.

The mound of zucchini fries is likely to be your focus, and rightly so. It’s perfect for grazing while catching up over the drinks. Even better, you can get a penne

vodka dish for an extra $9.95, and it’s totally worth it. This pasta has a deep flavor in the rich sauce—it combines tomato, cream, Romano cheese, onion, garlic and chili flakes.

Dessert? Optional, but there ain’t nothing wrong if you feel like finishing up with cannoli (and the desserts are family-style, too, so sharing is the only option). –Nina King

Room to Bloom

This hidden bar celebrates Japan’s cherry blossom season

Cherry blossom season is in full bloom, so to speak, in Japan. The pink-hued trees transform the streets of Kyoto and Tokyo, and some of those beautiful visuals are re-created in Las Vegas inside Here Kitty Kitty Vice Den . The speakeasy, hidden inside one of the stalls at Famous Foods Street Eats, celebrates the season through April 30 with a venue transformation of the intimate bar.

Guests will be immersed in the pink-petaled cherry blossoms blooming in every corner, from the bar and seating area to the ceiling. It’s the perfect visual to break out the camera for and get some romantic and whimsical social posts.

Along with the decor, Here Kitty Kitty Vice Den adds some themed fruity, citrusy cocktails to the menu for a limited time. Sip on The Samurai Way with Bruichladdich The Classic Laddie Scotch, brown sugar simple syrup, lavender and cherry bark vanilla bitters; the Golden Bridge with Cointreau, Chareau aloe vera liqueur, Luxardo Maraschino, simple syrup, lemon juice, passion fruit purée and Prosecco; the Blooming For Love with Remy Martin VSOP, Luxardo Maraschino, hibiscus-guava purée, simple syrup, lemon juice and sakura latte powder; and the Cherry Blossom Cloud with The Botanist gin, St-Germain and Kanáde yuzu liqueur, topped with a cherry coconut foam.

Destination Fabulous

If you haven’t been yet, it’s time to discover Juliet Cocktail Room . Between the beautiful decor and inventive cocktail program, it’s a destination that never disappoints in experiencing the best the city has to offer. Since 2022, the welcoming and spacious lounge has served up fun nights with a diverse lineup of live entertainment and eye-catching, uniquely tasting cocktails.

“Guests will experience a cultivated

nightlife environment with a touch of classic Las Vegas,” said Chris Zadie, vice president of food and beverage for 81/82 Group, owners of Juliet Cocktail Room. “We offer live entertainment with a very modern take on the Strip, from the cocktail presentation to the service offering and the overall nightlife experience. It’s refined but still energetic. You can come in for live music, stay for the atmosphere and transition

into a more elevated nightlife setting as the evening unfolds.”

If you’ve been before, then a return visit is in order, as Juliet Cocktail Room recently added new cocktails to the menu. “The libations are as enchanting as they are tantalizing,” Zadie said.

A few of the new concoctions include the Chai’d and True with Hendry’s vodka, Mr. Black coffee liqueur, chai latte mix and cream. “(It) originally

evolved from a matcha latte cocktail we had on the menu—we started noticing chai lattes coming back into popularity, so I wanted to create something that stayed ahead of the times: a chai latte cocktail that feels a little more fun and unexpected,” Zadie said. The Diamonds Are Forever, mixed with D’Ussé cognac, High West rye, Amaro Montenegro, sweet vermouth and orange bitters, “is a classic spin on a Vieux Carré,” Zadie said. And the Eve’s Apple is a lip-smacking shot of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Apple, cinnamon, fresh apple and caramel. “Jack Daniel’s released an apple whiskey that I thought was really interesting, so we leaned into that and created more of a caramel apple-style shot,” Zadie said. “It’s inspired by the idea of the poison apple, but with Eve’s Apple, it’s a little more seductive.”

Other new menu items include spirit-forward cocktail Fields of Norway with Norwegian aquavit; the Nice Pear, a unique blend of whiskey, fresh pear, maple syrup, a touch of bacon fat and egg white; and another shot-based delight, the Pepino Malo Shot with watermelon, tequila and Gran Malo, which gives it a tamarind-style taste.

Restaurant celebrates St. Patrick’s Day, and its 15th Vegas anniversary

As you approach Rí Rá Irish Pub in The Shoppes at Mandalay Place, you may feel like you’ve been transported back in time, with dark woods, shop windows, columns and corbels. It’s heartily inviting, but doesn’t compare to what’s inside, where you’ll really feel like it’s a different century. Rí Rá Irish Pub is

Beef and Guinness stew
Irish breakfast

shop bar (although museum exhibits wouldn’t have the good folk drinking and eating inside), a petite space with benches, tables and the original bar from co-founder Cairan Sheehan’s grandfather’s pub, founded in the 1880s and rebuilt in the 1920s after a fire. That’s just the start of several more ornate bars and rooms, from the Victorian Room, with a bar top of Kilkenny limestone, a statue of St. Patrick, a gorgeous floor made by the same company that worked on the Titanic, and a huge set of antique cabinets that house an enormous whiskey collection; the Theater Room, with an impressive bar backed by huge mirrors rescued from the Olympia Theatre in Dublin; and the Living Room, designed as a typical 1970s Irish living room (with a cute little bar). And all over the walls, you’ll find photos and memorabilia.

Once seated, grab a drink—there are several

702.632.7771

Irish brews to choose from, including Guinness, and you can’t go wrong with one of those pints! You have plenty of authentic dishes to choose from and a few extra as well. I recommend starting with potato cakes and deviled Scotch eggs. The potato cakes are creamy, with sour cream and balsamic glaze atop and cheddar lending richness to the mashed potato. The Scotch egg changes the traditional breaded, sausage-wrapped boiled egg and devils the yolks, creating a creamy, surprising mouthful. Baked

goat cheese, potato leek soup and sausage roll bites with Guinness-mustard sauce might also be to your liking.

For mains, choose from pub faves like the Guinness BBQ burger, with cheddar cheese, Guinness barbecue sauce and onion rings, or the Dubliner burger, with a rosemary-infused lamb patty, goat cheese and curry aioli.

Specialties to try include beef and Guinness stew, with barley, root veg and mashed potatoes on top; chicken pot pie; fish and chips with lager-breaded haddock; shepherd’s pie with lamb

and beef; or the all-day Irish breakfast, a classic with eggs, Irish bangers (sausage) and rashers (bacon), black and white pudding (Google it), mushrooms, tomato and toast; and pub mac and cheese, so creamy and delicious with mushrooms, garlic and a crumb topping.

For dessert, indulge in a rich bread pudding with dollops of whipped cream, but on St. Patrick’s Day ask about the Baileys cheesecake or the Oreo ice cream cake, with Oreos, Heath bars, chocolate and caramel sauce and whipped cream.

SAMMY HAGAR talks about Vegas, Van Halen and his current tour

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Sammy Hagar returns to Dolby Live at Park MGM with The Best of All Worlds, his hits-packed residency featuring Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani, Kenny Aronoff and Rai Thistlethwayte. Las Vegas Magazine caught up with the Red Rocker to talk about setlists, Van Halen’s legacy and his future in Las Vegas.

YOU’RE BUILDING SETLISTS NIGHT BY NIGHT. HOW DOES THAT WORK?

I do it right before the show. We have about 50 songs on these little magnetic strips, and we just start flipping them around. The triple-A hits have to be in the set because someone paid to see that song, but the deep tracks, we alternate them every night. I love it. It keeps the band fresh and happy.

WHAT MAKES DOLBY LIVE THE PERFECT ROOM FOR THIS RESIDENCY?

It feels big enough to be exciting, like you’re playing a real concert, and it feels intimate enough to make you feel comfortable, like everybody’s got a good seat and you’re there with your friends. MGM carries all my booze—they know my fans want the full experience. You can’t do that on the road. You can go do the best show you can do, but you can’t have all those little elements in a row.

THIS IS BILLED AS YOUR “DEEPEST DIVE YET” INTO THE VAN HALEN CATALOG. WHY NOW?

No. 1 was Eddie’s death. I started thinking, geez, we’re never going to play together again. Then Alex Van Halen

8 p.m. March 18, 20-21, starting at $126 plus tax and fee. ticketmaster.com

made an announcement that he can’t play drums anymore due to his health. It’s so necessary to carry the legacy of that music on. The Van Hagar catalog, I wrote every song with Eddie. Eddie wrote the music, I wrote the lyrics and the melodies. Those people who grew up with that music, they’ve got to hear it again.

DO THOSE SONGS MEAN SOMETHING DIFFERENT TO YOU NOW?

A song like “Right Now”—every time I sing it, I think how it’s about right now, because something else is happening right now than what was happening in ’91 when we wrote it. And “Love Walks In,” I wrote about aliens and automatic writing. Now all this UFO stuff is coming out, and when I sing that song, I have a feeling it’s touching people differently.

YOU’VE BUILT QUITE AN EMPIRE IN LAS VEGAS—CABO WABO CANTINA, SAMMY’S ISLAND AT THE PALMS. HOW DOES THE RESIDENCY FIT INTO THE COMPLETE SAMMY HAGAR EXPERIENCE?

It does become a mecca when I play here. You can stop by the Cabo Wabo, you can hang out at my joint, drink my booze, listen to my music and eat my food. And guess what? If you’re sick of my joint, you’re not going to be sitting around going, “What are we going to do?”

AFTER THESE 11 SHOWS IN 2026, WHAT’S NEXT? YOU’VE SAID THIS IS YOUR IDEA OF RETIREMENT, BUT KNOWING YOU, THAT DOESN’T MEAN SLOWING DOWN COMPLETELY.

I want to be the oldest living performing rock star someday. I love it because I want to do it. I want people to go, “Holy sh*t, he’s 90 and he hit that note.” I think I’ll always be able to squeeze a dozen shows out of Las Vegas till I’m 100.

College hoops fans will find plenty to enjoy in Vegas this week

It’s back! The March Madness tournament is one of the most exciting annual events in sports, not just for bettors and those doing brackets, but for the fans and even casual observers. There’s just no replacement for the, well, madness that surrounds this event as 68 teams try to work their way to the Final Four and, hopefully, to the NCAA title. And if you’re in town for the craziness from March 17-April 7, read on to find not only great places to watch, but some sweet deals for fans.

Over at Bottled Blonde Las Vegas at the Grand Bazaar Shops, both levels of the hot spot will show the games, all while serving up some great bites like tuna tacos, truffle fries and Reuben sandwiches. If you want to be guaranteed a seat, reservations are recommended, but there is open seating available at the bar.

Get your chef on at Paris Las Vegas’ three distinctive classes

Julia Child said it best: “No one is born a great cook, one learns by doing.” Martha Stewart, Nobu Matsuhisa and Gordon Ramsay are three chefs that are prime examples of practice makes perfect. By studying the art of their respective cuisines, each shot to the head of the class and turned what they learned into respected culinary careers. They’ve

each also capitalized on their flair for flavors and opened restaurants across the globe, including in Las Vegas. At Paris Las Vegas, guests can get a taste of perfection at The Bedford by Martha Stewart, Gordon Ramsay Steak and Nobu Las Vegas.

Now you have the chance to follow in the chefs’ footsteps in the kitchen by tak-

ing a cooking class offered at each restaurant, each one taught by the in-house chef.

Learn how to make pierogies, sushi and steak, gather up cooking knowledge (as well as tips to take back to your own kitchen), and, most importantly, have fun.

Read on for a glimpse into each class, then book your spot online and get ready to get your chef on!

ASSIGNMENT:

How to make sushi

CLASS NOTES:

Learn the proper sushi-making techniques to make your own tuna nigiri, salmon nigiri, yellowtail nigiri and California roll. You’ll learn how to use just the right amount of rice, how to shape the rice in your hand and how to properly place the fish on the rice. There’s even a QR code in your welcome package that you scan to watch a video of chef Nobu demonstrating how to properly shape and form the rice on which you place the piece of fish. (You’ll be taught tips and tricks to accomplish this technique!)

You’ll learn how to roll the crab, avocado and cucumber with nori (seaweed) to create the perfect California roll.

Chef goes over the main sushi ingredients, revealing insider information, such as: The type of rice used is exclusive to Nobu and the distinct flavor comes from a combination of rice vinegar, monk fruit sugar and salt, added during the cooking process; the sesame seeds used on the cut rolls are roasted to release a distinct aroma; Japanese cucumbers are used in all

the sushi rolls because they’re skinny, crunchy and have fewer seeds than American cucumbers; Haas avocados are always used; and the top-notch nori, a version made special for Nobu, comes from the brand

Naga Kombu seaweed—the nori must be thin and crunchy, creating the perfect bite experience.

The seafood you’ll use in the class includes: big

eye tuna that comes from Hawaii; Scottish salmon; yellowtail that comes from Japan; and snow crab that comes from Canada.

CHEF NOBU opened the first Nobu-branded restaurant in Tribeca, New York, in 1991

Each dish served at Nobu restaurants follow chef Nobu’s belief in the harmony of ingredients, making sure that each bite has a perfect balance when it comes to aroma, sourness, sweetness and crunchiness, and that it’s always visually pleasing.

Upon arrival to the class, you’ll receive a specialty drink made with fresh fruits, and each guest leaves with a Nobu-branded apron, a set of chopsticks, a step-by-step guide on how to make sushi and a sushi-making mold.

Enjoy your sushi creations in the dining room, and for an additional cost you can pair it with a flight of Japanese whiskey.

ASSIGNMENT:

How to make pierogies

CLASS NOTES:

The No. 1 selling dish at The Bedford is Big Martha’s pierogies—Martha Stewart’s mother’s personal recipe. Nearly 70 orders are served each evening and can be made to order with caviar to send the flavors into bougie territory.

Watch as chef makes the dough using the classic

KitchenAid mixer, adding together all-purpose flour, whole milk, water, sour cream, kosher salt and a large brown egg. Once the dough is prepared, students will get sheets of the dough to form the individual pierogies.

Each guest will combine potatoes, brown butter, cream cheese, scallions and kosher salt in a mixing bowl. You’ll blend the ingredients until they’re well mixed and then set them aside to be used as the filling for each pierogi.

Everyone in the class gets their own cooking utensils. You’ll take the dough and filling and make your individual pierogies, learning techniques on how to shape, seal and crimp the dough. This is your chance to show off your cooking skills—if

you have them! But don’t fret, chef is always nearby to help out.

Chef will then take the pierogies back to the kitchen, where you’ll be able to watch as your newly formed pierogies are boiled in salted water.

The dish is then finished off with brown butter and fresh diced sage. Guests are invited to take a seat at a communal dining table to eat their freshly cooked pierogies together.

Martha Stewart sells her cookbooks at the Yukon Gold potatoes are used for the filling. The potatoes are peeled and run through a food mill, resulting in a creamy, lump-free filling.

restaurant. In 2024, she released her 100th cookbook. Not only are Big Martha’s pierogies in the new cookbook, but many recipes were added to The Bedford’s fall menu, with star dishes that included seafood.

For the restaurant, the dough is made at the inhouse baking department of the hotel. Each day, a cook comes into The Bedford early to assemble each pierogi by hand—and makes nearly 300!

Each guest leaves with The Bedford by Martha Stewart-branded apron and the step-by-step pierogi recipe. A bonus of taking this class is that it includes a 4 p.m. VIP dinner reservation for two inside the Brown Room; and on top of dinner, you’ll receive two complimentary glasses of champagne and classic caviar service.

guests from Paris to London through the replica of the Chunnel.

Chef is friendly and knowledgeable and will gladly answer any questions about the process of learning the art of properly cooking a steak. You’ll learn tips like: Always temper your meat before cooking—the meat should be at room temperature before you start cooking, so when it hits the hot pan, it doesn’t steam from being cold and will instead immediately begin to caramelize; and use more salt than you think you need, because a lot of it comes off during the cooking process.

You’ll learn how to pansear the steak (on all sides for best results!) in oil, flavored with only salt and pepper on both sides. And then you’ll learn how to butter baste the steak using a made-in-house compound butter. (It’s the same butter that is brushed on every steak that leaves the restaurant’s kitchen.). You’ll also cook the steak with sprigs of thyme to enhance the flavors, removing them when finished.

ASSIGNMENT:

How to cook a steak

CLASS NOTES:

Each guest will receive a 4-ounce American wagyu filet mignon to cook at their

own individual cooking station with hot plate, pan and cooking utensils.

Cheers! Enjoy a glass of champagne upon arrival while you learn some his-

tory on the restaurant—it’s chef Ramsay’s first Las Vegas restaurant, opened in May of 2012. Check out the creative interior design of the restaurant that is supposed to transport

One of chef’s biggest tips: After the steak is cooked, it’s always important to let the steak rest before cutting into it. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the piece of meat.

Be an artist! This is your chance to get creative with

plating the steak. For both the visual impact and to enhance the flavors, you can pick different accoutrements that are set up at your cooking station, including coarse smoked sea salt, Guinness-braised mustard seeds, chimichurri or red wine demi-glace.

Enjoy your steak!

Guests will get to eat the filet mignon they’ve just prepared while getting another chance to pick chef’s brain on more cooking techniques and learn about the different dishes served at the restaurant.

Each guest leaves with a Gordon Ramsay Steak-branded apron, autographed Ramsay photo and logo-branded keepsakes.

When it comes to off-Strip dining options, it’s really hard to beat

If you want to step away from the Las Vegas Strip for a spell to dine and drink like the locals do, we highly recommend Chinatown, a bustling district with more than 100 different eateries. Each block is packed with amazing options—so where do you begin? We’ve got you covered! Here, we highlight just a few of our favorite spots available to you. Something important to remember: There are no wrong choices!

5300 Spring Mountain Road No. 101. 702.749.7477

The original Ichiza is one of Chinatown’s most beloved dining spots, but if you want an extra-special treat, head to this second location, which boasts 11 private dining rooms for you and your party, each decorated with lantern-style light fixtures and bamboo curtains, not to mention a button to summon your server. The options here are too hard to select from, so get a bit of everything, from salmon steak and beef shabu shabu salad to corn butter and pork katsu. Make sure to finish off your meal with Ichiza’s brown sugar pudding, so simple and yet so deeply satisfying.

wagyu, lamb, pork belly and chicken), seafood, vegetables, mushrooms, handmade noodles and more. Best of all, the menu changes seasonally, making repeat visits practically mandatory. The signature cocktails are equally wonderful, from Harby’s Revenge, made with Ezra Brooks bourbon, black ice tea, white peach liqueur and lemon juice, to Nengmeng Drop, featuring lemon vodka, limoncello, lemon juice and calpico.

pizzas will ensure you stay for a bite. Try the Salami Rossa, topped with garlic confit, white sauce, preserved lemons, yellow Dorati tomatoes, stracciatella, crushed pistachios, red pesto, lemon and chilli oil, for something exceptionally rich. Or, go familiar with a twist with the pepperoni pie featuring vodka sauce, fior di latte cheese, chili crunch, dry-aged pepperoni and basil.

Even though this is a food truck, you’ll almost always find it in the same place. It’s a true Chinatown institution, and for good reason: The food absolutely slays, and it’s very affordable to boot. If it’s your first time, you gotta order the green chili burrito, full of smoked chicken, pinto beans, bell peppers and cheese. It goes great with prickly pear Cutty juice. One more reason this place rules: When you arrive, the ultra-friendly staff snaps your photo and places it onto a huge collection of customer photos on the awning.

3839 Spring Mountain Road.

702.582.5852

Fine French dining in Chinatown? Believe it! This establishment, with a menu courtesy of chef Yuri Szarzewski, specializes in five- to nine-course tasting menus, all featuring seasonal ingredients, along with a world-class wine-pairing option (so worth the money). You can also opt to add items like seared foie gras with seasonal garnish and caviar or truffles. There’s also a Chef’s Table option facing the kitchen to see your dishes prepared in real time.

headliner Rod Stewart, not to mention Walt Disney and John Waters (both of whom helped inspire the bar’s look). The cocktails here are legendary and often STRONG, especially Navy Grog, a mix of Dominican and Jamaican dark and overproof rums, lime and grapefruit juices and honey syrup. This is a 24-hour destination, but we strongly encourage you to make reservations.

3410 S. Jones Blvd. 702.227.9300

For one of the best Japanese fine-dining experiences in town, this is a must-visit. Start your evening off with small bites like jalapeño yellowtail, chicken karaage (served with negi sauce) or takoyaki skewers. Then work your way to the menu’s various carpaccios, from thinly sliced halibut and uni, salmon and halibut, and yellowtail to beef tataki and seared garlic tuna sashimi. For a truly unique experience, order something from the yakitori menu, where everything is cooked using binchotan charcoal from Japan. Choices here range from chicken thigh and wagyu tongue to enoki mushroom bacon and pork belly.

3545 S. Decatur Blvd. 702.201.1926

Vegetarians, vegans and omnivores will all find something to enjoy at this establishment, courtesy of owner Tony Nguyen. The menu hits every palate, all in a comfortable setting full of bold burgundy accents and earth tones. It’s the perfect place to enjoy appetizers like watermelon wontons, angus tenderloin tartare and honey-glazed chicken lollipops, and main courses like wok-tossed five-spice octopus, crispy pesto gnocchi and vegan scallops, marinated in nori broth and served with a sweet potato purée.

3879 Spring Mountain Road. 702.201.1133

One of the more unique restaurants in Chinatown, this Mexican hot spot not only features a delicious menu of street tacos (your choice of al pastor, carne asada, carnitas, hot honey-glazed chicken or barbacoa), it also contains a flower-and skull-adorned speakeasy, accessed through a long, winding corridor. Enjoy exclusive cocktails here like the Okie Dokie, Artichokie, which features Cynar artichoke amaro, mezcal, spiced demerara, pineapple, cherry and oak smoke.

5030 Spring Mountain Road Ste. 6. 702.367.4600

You may think you’ve tasted ramen, but until you go here, where the style served is Kurume-style tonkotsu ramen, you really haven’t. This is absolutely the gold standard for this particular dish, and the options are oh so plentiful. We’d recommend starting with the classic version, featuring pork broth, thin noodles and nori (dried seaweed), topped with two slices of pork chashu, black mushrooms, bamboo shoots and green onions. We highly recommend adding nitamago, a flavored egg, to whatever you try; it adds a whole new

level of flavor to what is already a terrific dish.

3616 Spring Mountain Road. 702.268.8762

Sometimes simplicity is the key to success, and nowhere is that more evident than at this outpost of the San Diego-based franchise, where street tacos are the focus, and all are served on fresh, handmade tortillas. Whether you choose al pastor, pollo asado, carne asada or seafood, you simply can’t go wrong here. If burritos are a little more to your liking, the California is highly recommended, filled with flame-grilled Angus steak, French fries, guac, tomato and cheese. And vegetarians shouldn’t avoid this spot—you can get your tacos with nopal (cactus) or sautéed mushrooms.

You’ll need to make a reservation for Nomikai’s speakeasy, but it’s so worth checking out for its cocktails like the ube espresso martini (it’s to die for!), made with Haku vodka, coffee liqueur, cold brew, ube and sweet milk. The Venetian Resort. 702.414.3474

Enjoy two fun-filled mini golf courses at PopStroke. The mini-golf adventure features synthetic fairways, tricky bunkers and rough patches, so it makes for a fun competition. When done playing, enjoy cocktails like winter hot picks like the spiked hot cocoa and sugar cookie martini.

1

Just head to Proper Eats Food Hall and look for the Easy Donuts stall. If it’s after 5 p.m., look for the small podium and guests seemingly walking through a wall that opens—this is where you’ll find the speakeasy Easy’s Cocktail Lounge. This intimate space has live music and showstopping cocktails, all set in a bougie atmosphere. Aria. easysvegas.com

2

Hidden behind one of the vending machines inside Luchini’s Slice Shop is the speakeasy, Chez Bippy. It opens at 6 p.m., and ask a server at the pizza shop how to get in. Once inside, you’ll enjoy a dark-lit space dripping in opulence with velvet. Cocktails here are made with high-end spirits and fresh-made mixers, syrups and garnishes. MGM Grand. 702.891.7600

3

You’ll easily spot Caspian’s Rock & Roe but did you know that behind the huge painting of a captain it opens into the secret speakeasy? It’s a latenight, high-energy hang with live music and cocktails with bumps of caviar. Enjoy themed nights like ’80s rock ’n’ roll. Caesars Palace. caspianslv.com
