Chances are you’ll hear your favorite song at this chart-topping artist’s residency There’s so much to love about Janet Jackson, from her airy vocals and smooth dance moves to her discography full of hits. So it’s no wonder the chanteuse has a devoted following, and lucky for fans she’s treating Vegas to a fantastic residency, returning on May 21, 24-25, 28, 30-31. The set of shows that began just before the new year marks a return to the stage following her 2023 Together Again Tour, which was her first post-pandemic venture. (It’s also Jackson’s first time back in Las Vegas since her previous Metamorphosis residency, which took over Dolby Live at Park MGM in 2019.) The tour skipped over Vegas, but Jackson is surely making it up to Sin City crowds with her current run. The pop icon could stun with nothing more than a single spotlight and a microphone, but with the elaborate production capabilities of the Resorts World Theatre, she shines, and her music truly comes to life. This isn’t just another concert—it’s an all-out spectacle. Talented dancers don fashionable garb while their crisp movements accent Jackson’s slightly softer yet still sharp dance moves. An array of set pieces and lighting equipment make for a dynamic backdrop, morphing seamlessly between maximalist, high-energy numbers and beautifully designed moments of simplicity. Plus, the singer created medleys of many of her most popular tunes, so you get to hear more than 40 of her hits. That’s right, 40! Expect to hear favorites like “Rock With U,” “Escapade” and “Miss You Much.” And of course, it simply wouldn’t be a Janet Jackson concert without “What Have You Done for Me Lately” (spoken word intro included, of course) and “Rhythm Nation.” Audiences will be much delighted by some exceptionally special treats like a version of “Velvet Rope” that Jackson hasn’t performed live since 1999 and “I Want You” in concert for the first time. Spirit Songs
Iconic guitarist, returning to his Las Vegas Strip residency, taps into the metaphysical to produce music Carlos Santana’s thirst for musical transcendence is so great he risks dehydration. He channels that passion to the masses through his instantly recognizable guitar playing, most recently collected in retrospective recording Sentient. The album is no repackaged greatest hits, though. It’s a mix of tracks showcasing his expressive six-string prowess through the years through collaborations, live tracks and a very special cover. Santana compares his latest album, released March 28, to holiday season décor. “The ornaments are gratitude, compassion, consideration, mercy, grace,” he says in a mini-documentary about the album on his YouTube channel. “All those things are ornaments and the Christmas tree is Sentient.” In more direct spiritual terms, he describes Sentient as energy of sound that brings people together with “resonant vibrations that bring humanity together to celebrate what? Our own divinity, our own light.” It’s not the first time Santana leaned into metaphysics to describe his music and inspirations, but he’s probably never laid it out more succinctly. His 2024 single “Let the Guitar Play” leads off the album, with the guitarist’s tasty, slightly overdriven licks engaging Darryl “DMC” Mc-

Daniels in call and response before segueing into a soaring lead. The track is followed by a previously unreleased 2007 live cover of Michael Jackson’s “Stranger in Moscow” with producer/drummer Narada Michael Walden and his band. It’s lyrical, chill-inducing and emblematic of the heights Santana reaches with his passionate playing. He’s only performed “Stranger in Moscow” once live, so although the probability of Santana playing it at his next round of House of Blues residency shows is slim, it is entirely possible he could give audiences a taste. A 2001 Latin-flavored collaboration with Jackson, “Whatever Happens,” follows “Stranger in Moscow” and would be difficult to pull off without the King of Pop’s presence. Santana gets his strongest resonant vibrations from spouse/drummer Cindy Blackman Santana, who co-composed “Coherence.” A shuffle with wah-guitar wisdom married to a funky groove and percussive punctuation, “Coherence” is a preview of Blackman Santana’s upcoming album while serving as Sentient’s next-to-last track, before Santana wraps the song cycle with “Blues for Salvador.” –Matt Kelemen

Viva Cuba!
Restaurant celebrates the culture through cuisine, cocktails and coffee Meat lovers are no doubt familiar with Cuban restaurants, but vegetarians might be a bit wary. But as a vegetarian, I can wholeheartedly recommend Havana 1957 at Flamingo. When I say they have the best salad I’ve had on the Strip, I mean it. The flavors of the chopped salad are simple yet divine when blended together with romaine hearts, tomatoes, cucumbers, chickpeas, red onions, black beans, queso fresco and avocado, all drizzled in honey cilantro dressing. Havana 1957 gets points for being the

only Cuban restaurant on the Strip, too, and on the weekend you can really soak in the culture when singers, dancers and a band heat up the night and get people up on their feet with the sounds of traditional music. Besides the party vibes, the new restaurant serves traditional eats of Cuba like vaca frita, a crispy flank steak, Cuban sandwiches, ropa vieja empanadas, ceviche, churrasco and sides like fried yuca, tostones (fried plantains) and arroz moro. To get a deep dive into Cuban
flavors go with the la orquesta Cubana, a sample platter with a Cuban family recipe of roasted chicken, ropa vieja and roasted pork, all served with white rice, black beans and sweet plantains. And the mojito is no joke—the unofficial cocktail of Cuba is made to perfection. Teppanyaki Tradition This Vegas favorite brings families together with its communal cuisine

It’s So Money, Baby!
New high-limit lounge offers a distinctive experience Drink bougie inside the new high roller hot spot, Aureus Lounge at Caesars Palace. The new space is ethereal, beautiful and rich, and it’s open 24 hours daily to anyone 21 years or older. Besides the gaming options, including blackjack, roulette and baccarat, with table minimums usually starting around $100 and going higher during peak hours, there are multiple flatscreen TVs to catch the latest sports. Whispers of top 40s music fills the air, and plenty of lounge-like seating, including high back chairs, club chairs and sofas, allows guests to take a reprieve from gambling. The real highlight of Aureus, though, is its cocktail program—the most highend spirits and the most expensive cocktails on property can be found at this lounge. Specialty cocktails, classic cocktails, build-your-own cocktails and champagne cocktails fill the menu. The most expensive specialty cocktail, priced at $65.99, is made with Mark Wahlberg’s new tequila brand, Flecha Azul. It uses Flecha Azul’s extra anejo, which is the most expensive spirit in the brand’s tequila offerings and is often not used in cocktails because of its hefty price tag, says David Chiti, director of food and beverage at Caesars Palace. usually just served straight in a small pour, he says, but at Aureus you can taste it in a cocktail called the Snake Eyes. The recipe mixes it with Giffard banana liqueur, lemon juice, cream of
coconut, passion fruit purée and cardamom bitters, all topped with a toasted banana slice. Under the classic cocktails, Chiti highlights the spicy mezcal margarita.

a rim dipped in Tajín. This cocktail has bite, but in the most delish, lip-smacking way. For those who love brown spirits, a must-try section of the menu is the build-your-own Old-Fashioned or Manhattan. Go classic with the Old-Fashioned, mixed with Knob Creek single barrel, simple syrup, Angostura bitters and orange bitters. Guests can choose their whiskey for either recipe, with choices that include high-end spirits
Insider Tips Don’t skip the espresso martini, here made slightly differently than most versions of the classic cocktail. Instead of freshly brewed espresso, this version uses Alchemyst Espresso concentrate, which gives the cocktail a better froth and doesn’t water down the recipe with hot espresso. Aureus Lounge stocks a very rare bottle of Eagle Rare 25-year bourbon, and guests can try it for $1,199 per shot.

Bartender dedicates decades to the bar he loves For 25 years Wally Lang has been a friendly face behind the bar of Rí Rá Irish Pub … many a Rí Rá Irish Pub. He joined the company in North Carolina in 1999, where they trained him to be a bartender, then he proceeded to help open seven locations around the country, including the one in Las Vegas at The Shoppes at Mandalay Place in 2011 and it’s where he’s been bartending ever since. “There’s a higher standard at Rí Rá,” Lang says. “One of the easiest things

Stunning presentations and spectacular flavors satisfy both the eyes and taste buds at Stubborn Seed Vegas gets a fair number of restaurant openings, and not just your run-of-themill diners, either. This city boasts TV chefs, outposts of Michelin-starred restaurants and viral sensations by the boatload. So, it’s saying something when I tell you that the newly opened Stubborn Seed in Resorts World Las Vegas has been the hottest ticket from the moment it opened two months ago. And rightly so. The restaurant has it all—chef, gorgeous décor and food to die for. Chef Jeremy Ford had his big break when he won a cooking competition and scored the executive chef position at Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s Matador Room in Miami. He went on to win Top Chef’s 13th season and, in 2022, starred in Fast Foodies and opened Stubborn Seed in Miami with Grove Bay Hospitality Group. That year, he was also named a 2022 James Beard Award semifinalist, and Stubborn Seed earned Michelin stars from 2022 to 2025. Fragrant spiced barramundi with galangal curry is especially treasured by diners, while Westholme Australian wagyu strip loin brings a new appreciation for beef. If there are not enough courses to satisfy, there are add-ons offered, such as the Kaluga caviar macaron with champagne citrus crema and dill. “The tasting menu is a culinary journey and we’re ready to take folks for a ride,” Ford said in a press release shortly before the Cacio e pepe cheesy puffs restaurant opened. Songwriter specialist Hardy’s tastes for rock and metal flavor his musical foundation By Matt Kelemen Writing hits comes naturally for genre-blending singer-songwriter Hardy. He’s unapologetically country as heck, to paraphrase a song he’s been closing concerts with, but Michael Wilson Hardy soaked up rock, metal, hip-hop and industrial music influences while growing up in Philadelphia, Miss. He leans into those influences on his solo work, but it was on the country charts that he first came to prominence penning hits for Florida Georgia Line, Morgan Wallen and Blake Shelton. After reaching the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s country album charts and No. 4 on the Top 200, Hardy faces a unique dilemma when he’s in the composition zone. “The biggest challenge is, like, if I write a song, I’m like, ‘I know it’s a hit song,’” he said in an episode of Amazon Music’s Songline series. “Is it ‘me’ enough to keep it, or should I keep it because it’s a hit song? Should I give it to somebody else?” More and more, he’s keeping it. This could be in part due to Hardy having earned the freedom to explore his Southern rock and metal inclinations on albums like 2023 chart-topper The Mockingbird & the Crow and his latest album Quit! While country radio might not take to vocals reminiscent of Nine Inch Nails and distortion-driven guitar rhythms, audiences embraced his pioneering sound when he toured North America last year.

A lot of his popularity is due to his celebration of redneck culture, which doesn’t come much clearer than on the lead track from his newly released Country! EP, “Buck on the Wall.” The song recalls his grandfather’s deer camp, with a heavy guitar rhythm joining the arrangement at 57 seconds in. The EP closes out with “Favorite Country Song,” which finds Hardy stringing classic country song titles together into lyrics for the opening verse. Country music was all around as Hardy grew up playing Little League baseball and attending church. He told the L.A. Times that he thought country music was corny and couldn’t understand the lyrics in nü metal, preferring the wordsmithing of Creed, Nickelback and Three Doors Down. He studied music in college and made his way to Nashville, where he networked and immersed himself in the songwriters’ scene. Hardy released his first EP, This Ole Boy, in 2018. He co-wrote “God’s Country” for Blake Shelton, which became a No. 1 country hit and a Top 20 pop success. He then recruited a plethora a musicians for his Hixtape, Vol. 1 project, which was less about generating hits than having a good time recording. Trace Adkins, Joe Diffie, Hillary Lindsey, Keith Urban and Wallen were among the collaborators, and the recording became a critical and commercial success. Since scoring a hit featuring Lainey Wilson with 2023’s “Wait in the Truck,” Hardy has been able to do whatever he wants. This year’s Jim Bob World Tour finds him country rocking in Europe before returning to North America, where the beer is plentiful, he has a newborn child and there’s still a buck on the wall in the hunting cabin his grandfather built.

the many treasures Carter unearthed, including the historic and phenomenal discovery of King Tut’s tomb. The exhibit is both educational and awe-mazing, and here’s just a small sampling of what you’ll get to discover yourself when you take the journey. Every piece you view is a reproduction of actual artifacts discovered. Each piece is crafted by an Egyptian artisan to match the exact tradition of those found in the burial chamber.
It turns out King Tut was consumed with ailments during his short life. Examination of the exhumed body shows that he was most likely crippled from inbreeding. He suffered from a clubbed foot, incomplete cleft palate that led to a speech impediment, a curved spine caused by kyphoscoliosis and had severe immune issues like malaria that was found in his bones. The theory has been put forth that Tut might have died from a possible
infection from a broken leg cause by a chariot accident. Get schooled in the significance of gold, seen as a symbol of nobility and immortality. Learn how the mummification process works and why it was important to maintain the body for the afterlife so the soul could journey through the underworld. Carter and his crew unearthed four different rooms—the lower-level annex, treasury room, burial chamber and the room that contained Tut’s nested coffins. Inside the treasury room, a huge amount of gold was found, including a canopic shrine that held the king’s organs. You can view a stunning replica of the boy king’s chariot and other kingly possessions. King Tut’s sarcophagus included three nested coffins made from gold, colored glass and semi-precious stones. In the final coffin, made entirely out of solid gold, the mummy of Tut revealed his body wrapped in linen and resin and donning the famous death mask. The death mask weighed 22 pounds and depicted Tut wearing the traditional striped Nemes headdress worn by pharaohs.

Meanwhile, at pyramid-shaped Luxor, Fantasy: The Strip’s Sexiest Tease continues its reign with new dancers, acts and routines. The topless revue celebrated Military Appreciation Month last weekend, but the ladies of Fantasy and emcee/singer Lorena Peril appreciate servicemen year-round. This is the place on the south end of the Strip that Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines personnel should prioritize, where Ashton, Abby, Mariah and company meet and greet audience members after the show and sign souvenir posters. Connoisseurs of kinetic dance should plan on visiting MGM Grand to see Jabbawockeez, a troupe of
masked dancers that has dazzled Vegas visitors since 2010. Jabbawockeez gained national attention two years earlier on MTV reality series America’s Best Dance Crew and parleyed its notoriety into what has become a body-rocking institution. It’s family-friendly and do-not-miss entertainment for hip-hop aficionados with a meet-and-greet offering and 30% off admission for locals for Memorial Day Weekend. Journey with me on my own 24-hour stay (a staycation in my case) and read about some of the highlights and fun to be had at this amazing property located in downtown Las Vegas.
You can ask for an early check-in, but it’s not always guaranteed. We got lucky! We stayed in a that is anything but “standard.” Every room at Circa has a kingsized bed—we jumped onto the Serta Prestige mattress and sunk in … ahhh! A cool feature: A lot of the rooms have a Murphy bed! Owner Derek Stevens made sure all rooms offer a king-sized bed so everyone could feel royal! Technology reigns throughout the room. We adjusted the air and played music through our tablet and asked Alexa questions about the resort. The bathroom has dual vanity sinks (I set up my beauty tools right in front of the makeup mirror with special lighting) and the shower has a sizable built-in bench and luxurious bathing products.

We checked into one of the booths and ordered lunch. Menus from nearby Victory Burger & Wings Co. and Project BBQ are available. We noshed on the Hangover Burger piled with french fries, cheddar cheese, thick-cut bacon, caramelized onions, crispy onion straws, creamy blanco cheese, boom boom sauce and a fried egg; an order or boneless wings in sweet chili sauce; smoked Gouda mac and cheese bites; and fire-roasted elote in a cup. Indulging was joined by eye candy—nearly a dozen huge screens, nearly floor to ceiling, displaying all manner of sports.

Before we went back to our room to get ready for dinner, we made a quick pop into the lobby lounge, , to try some of the most inventive cocktails available downtown. (Plus, the historical Vegas Vickie’s neon sign is a must selfie moment). If you’ve got a sweet tooth, don’t miss the S’morus Taurus cocktail, basically a s’more in cocktail form!

We headed down the final set of escalators to the bottom floor of Circa, where you’ll find the doors to amazing steakhouse . This place is sexy and cool and has amazing old-school music (before the DJ takes over). And the food? Primo! Don’t miss the vegan menu. (Yes, at a steakhouse!) As a vegetarian, I dipped into crispy veggie spring rolls, “chicken” and dumplings and a hearts of palm ceviche. My dining companion’s knife melted into the 8-ounce wet-aged filet mignon from Omaha Farms and filled in the rest of his meal with a side of decadent whipped Belgian potatoes and grilled asparagus with a lemon vinaigrette. Can we take a minute to talk about the dessert—each one is more than generous in its serving size. We delved into the banana cream pie and the sticky toffee butter cake … We should’ve started with dessert because buttons were popping; we couldn’t manage to put our forks down even though we were full—the recipes were that good!
We finished up the evening with some after-dinner cocktails and some of the best views of the city, checking in at the hostess podium and then heading into the elevator and up 60 floors to the always-a-good-time . A trip to Circa wouldn’t be complete without making it up to this rooftop hot spot. Bartenders here are often voted the best in the city (many of them are recipients of cocktail competition awards), so ask them to whip you up something special off the menu. We grabbed our cocktails and headed outdoors to the oversized lounge chairs surrounding a fire pit and gazed at the city lights and stars. Another great thing about Legacy Club? There’s a DJ that plays top 40 music. Party in plain sight or sneak into a corner booth or one of the outdoor firepits off to the side and make it a romantic date night.

We didn’t even have to get dressed or leave the room to enjoy some breakfast. We simply scanned a QR code that took us to the menu, Circa’s 24-hour diner-like restaurant. We ordered up Nate & Sally’s housemade vanilla-cinnamon French toast with house-made whipped cream, fresh berries and pure maple syrup, The Chief’s Smoked Salmon Platter with generous salmon portions, toasted bagel, cream cheese, capers, slices of tomato, cucumber and red onion, and the Saginaw’s Breakfast Sandwich, two eggs over medium, bacon, white cheddar cheese and Sam’s Sriracha mayo on a sesame brioche bun. The breakfast menu offers so much more, and having Saginaw’s delivered to your room for breakfast blows the traditional room service meal options out of the water with its delicious options.

We checked out of our room and decided to spend our last hours at . We booked a daybed right alongside one of the six pools available and settled in for some sun and fun. A DJ keeps the music in party-vibes mode, and the 40-foot tall, high-def screen played that day’s basketball games. The multilevel pool complex offers big cabanas, open lounge chair seating, a (huge!) cocktail and food menu and outdoor table games. Stadium Swim is a destination downtown, not just a hotel pool—you have to come to the hotel to check it out. You just pay a reasonable cover to get in and enjoy the facilities, even if you’re not a hotel guest.
