Any regular reader of my editor’s note will tell you: I love Area15! It’s only been open for a short while, but it has not taken long for this entertainment complex to become the talk of the town. And as amazing as its current lineup is—Museum Fiasco, the Haley’s Comet zipline, Wink World, Oddwood bar, Dueling Axes, Emporium Arcade Bar and more—the attraction just continues to add more. It’s an ever-evolving experience that demands repeat visits. No discussion of Area15 would be complete without mentioning Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart, an almost indescribable combination of art, sound, light, interactive elements ... and a pinch of mystery. It truly feels like a space where anything goes, where anything is possible, where anything can happen. In that spirit, Las Vegas Magazine presents this week’s cover feature: We’ve brought the cocktails served at Omega Mart to life (“The Drinks Come Out at Night,” p. 30). Call it a Secret Life of Petsstyle take on what the cocktails might do when no one is around. Our art crew painstakingly crafted scenarios where the various drinks interact with the different elements of the attraction, giving you not only an idea of what libations you can enjoy, but also the highlights of Omega Mart itself. I could not be prouder of my team for

not only coming up with this concept, but executing it to perfection. Elsewhere in this week’s issue, there’s so much more to check out! Luxor adult revue still seduces decades later The sum of the parts of adults-only revue Fantasy make up a sweet, sexy whole: A bed. In this seductive vignette, watch as three women undress one another atop a bed covered in silky white sheets. The quick glimpses of what they’re doing under the covers will have you at the edge of your seat. Chaps and cowboy hats. And that’s about all the ladies wear when country goes crazy sexy cool as they line dance and boot scoot to songs like “Whole Lotta Woman.” A pole. Winding her way up and down, and down and up, this lady shows off poise and incredible balance and strength on the stripper pole.

A Latin beat. One of the Fantasy ladies lights the stage on fire with her wickedly wild hips twisting to the sounds of the heavy and hard-hitting Latin music beats. The singer. Songbird Lorena Peril absolutely astounds with her vocal capabilities, belting out perfect-pitch versions of “It’s A Man’s, Man’s, Man’s World,” “Roxanne” and “A Little Party.” Silks. Watch as another lady stuns with absolutely awe-inspiring athleticism, shimmying up and down the silks in beautiful aerial numbers. A sofa. Sliding across, around and on top of the soft-fabric covering a boudoir-type sofa, another lovely lady shows off her assets and talents in a sexy number that gets the crowd going.

“Halftime” show. Murray the Magician astounds with some stand-up and really impressive tricks during a couple of intermissions. His newspaper trick to the sounds of Prince’s “Purple Rain” and his lady-in-a-box trick will really confound and delight. Gloves, fishnet stockings, sparkly tops, corsets and bras. All the ladies come on the stage during each vignette wearing beautiful costumes and then you get what you came for at Fantasy—to watch them take it all off. It’s a quick way to get that libido going, but there’s a bona fide, seductive art to the way they undress—a technique dating back to the days of early burlesque. –Kiko Miyasato

Tee It Up Got a large group or a large family? You’ll definitely want to check out Topgolf Las Vegas, an entertainment facility with so much to do you’ll probably need to revisit multiple times to experience it all. The 120-plus hitting bays are hard to resist, and for good reason: They’re suitable for all skill levels, and feature all sorts of games, including a version of Angry Birds. All the balls have sensors, meaning you can easily keep score with your friends and family as you try to hit different targets spread across a large play area. And while you’re waiting for your turn, order everything from shareables like cheesy macaroni bites, warm pretzel bites and Topgolf wings to sandwiches like the Smokehouse Burger, turkey avocado wrap and fried chicken sandwich. The drink menu features your favorite beers and cocktails like Topgolf Tea, a heady blend of Absolut vodka, Bacardi rum, Bombay Sapphire gin and DeKuyper triple sec. But the fun is just beginning. Net Gain If you’ve never heard of pickleball, you are to be forgiven. But this fast-growing sport, which combines elements of tennis, table tennis and badminton on a halved tennis court, has amassed thousands of fans across the globe, leagues and a ranking system as well. And in the Las Vegas Pickleball Classic, this week from Oct. 14-17, almost 200 players from across the country converge on the Plaza downtown to battle it out on court.

This casual tournament features players in the mid-range rankings, and a total prize package of $10,000. The money may add a little incentive for players, but the love of the game may add even more. There are so many good dishes at Salt & Ivy Café and Patio Bar that you’ll have a hard time choosing, but the Dutch baby pancakes in cast iron skillets are a must-try. Combining philanthropy and food in gala event One of Las Vegas’ most looked-forward-to events each year has to be Epicurean Charitable Foundation’s M.E.N.U.S. (Mentoring and Educating Nevada’s Upcoming Students). Although 2020 threw a bit of a wrench in the works, M.E.N.U.S. 2021: Glitz & Glam of Vintage Vegas promises to deliver the pizzazz Vegas is known for. The annual dine-around and silent auction takes place this year at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, which opened in the spring. Each year the theme changes, but this year black, gold and sparkly attire are suggested, so

break out your most snazzy duds and be prepared to impress. As you wind your way around the alfresco event, you’ll enjoy live music from. Zowie Bowie and offerings from more than 30 participating restaurants, from favorites like Johnny C’s Diner, Giada, Todd English’s Olives, Binion’s Steakhouse, Hugo’s Cellar, The Kitchen at Commons Club, Border Grill, Violette’s Vegan, and the just-opened Superfrico, among many others. Plus, there are plenty of cocktails to be had, just to make it even nicer. A silent auction gathers up

products and packages from generous donors from across the Strip and the Vegas Valley, and the bidding can be fierce, but always fun. Beer, Glorious Beer Trustworthy Brewing Co. at The Venetian has launched a cask ale program, offering ales naturally fermented and served from the same vessel with no forced carbonation. The first was unveiled last month, with head brewer Zach Johnson doing the honors of tapping the small metal firkin, which holds 40 pints and was emptied and enjoyed by eager beer lovers within hours of being tapped. The vessel had been filled with the brewery’s unfermented What Plane? oatmeal stout and, after yeast, oak spirals and Tahitian vanilla beans were added, was aged in the cask for six months. The result was a beer markedly different from the What Plane? carbonated with CO2 on draft that I compared it to, as the cask version had increased flavor from the oak and vanilla it was aged on and also more roast, toffee and coffee characteristics. Although this initial version took six months to come to fruition, Johnson said most will only take a few weeks to develop in the firkins, of which the brewery has five of. –Bob Barnes

Light Up Romance The Eiffel Tower Viewing Deck really is a cool attraction on the Las Vegas Strip—and one with some of the best views of said Strip. Hop aboard the elevator—with glass walls so you can watch as you climb higher and higher—that takes riders 46 stories into the air to the top of the half-scale replica of the real deal in France. Word of (Potty) Mouth

Caesars Palace show goes where other shows won’t It’s a question anyone who’s lived long enough in Las Vegas is eventually asked by their guests: “If you could only see one show while you’re in town, which one would it be?” For at least the last 10 years, that answer more often than not is probably Absinthe, a one-of-a-kind production in a one-of-a-kind venue that has been drawing rave reviews since it debuted on the Strip in 2011. It’s the kind of show you can’t wait to tell everyone about once you’ve seen it. The venue itself makes you feel like you’re part of something special. The Spiegeltent is ornately decorated, its circular space featuring a bar, hundreds of seats, tables, and a smallish circular

stage at the center. “That’s it?,” you might be asking yourself. But you’ll forget you even thought it once the show begins. That space is used extremely effectively by a variety of acts, all connected by the extremely foul-mouthed (and extremely funny) Gazillionaire, a sleazy “producer” who brags about his money when he’s not insulting the audience and abusing his poor assistant, Wanda Widdles, who’s not above being a bit blue herself. The acts themselves are all world-class, starting with one that may induce vertigo in some audience members—an acrobat slowly ascends to the top of a chair mountain he builds, balancing

himself along the way and sometimes actually moving the chair mountain around. Once he reaches the top, down comes The Green Fairy, an iconic part of the show displaying great curves and great pipes as she serenades the crowd with “Come On-A My House.” It’s the perfect segue into the show’s raunchy—but fun—style. Along the way, you’ll enjoy acrobats, jugglers, strongmen and a few naughty intermissions that will have you doubled over with laughter. When you arrive at Estiatorio Milos, you’ll be greeted with a light peaceful environment buzzing with happy diners. Past an inviting bar, there are two beautiful market areas displaying both the incredible array of fruit, veg and herbs, and the fresh fish used in Estiatorio’s dishes, all in front of a bustling open kitchen. In addition, you’ll find a room dedicated to making the restaurant’s yogurt. What should you be on the lookout for when ordering? A raw bar offering such things as big eye tuna sashimi and tartare, plus ceviche. And the Milos Special piles thinly sliced and lightly fried zucchini and eggplant with accompanying kefalograviera cheese and tzatziki. It’s just superb. For the red-meat lover, ribeye, filet mignon and Colorado lamb chops come with Greek fried potatoes, all available with sides like Santorini fava purée, asparagus and broccoli. For dessert, traditional baklava comes with ice cream and pistachios. The Greek yogurt with Kythirian thyme honey is delicious without being overwhelmingly sweet. –Nina King

Re-Creating Greatness If 27—A Musical Adventure was an actual rock concert today, tickets would sell out in minutes. Of course, gathering this roster of rock stars is only a dream, but 27 has made it reality—in a way. This high-energy tribute show brings together iconic singers—who all passed away at age 27—for an evening of nostalgia and music. Each tribute artist not only sings live, backed by a live band, but also brings back the looks, mannerisms and magnetism of the icon they play. The

lineup includes Robert Johnson, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse. You’ll hear each of the singer’s biggest hits as well as learn a little bit about their lives. Lip Lab By Bite will add color to your life For a cool experience that combines fun and shopping, stop into Lip Lab By Bite at FSLV— Fashion Show Las Vegas. Nestled just off the main corridor in the shopping complex lies the Lip Lab. Here, you can create a custom lip color that is available for you to take with you, right then and there. And with autumn here, it might be the right time to try a new shade. First, you’ll be escorted to your seat around a curving bar, where huge palettes filled with jars of color sit in front of each station. Your lab “tech” will quiz you on what you want, then you’ll

choose a finish (like shiny or matte), a fragrance (vanilla was mine!) and your preferred shade. Your tech will take the input you give and create swatches for you to sample before you make a final choice. Go ahead and be picky; it’s your color. If you like it, then a batch will be mixed up right before your eyes. If not, you can try another swatch. Once the ingredients are mixed in the proper ratios, the color is melted. Then your tech will pour it into a mold and put it in a freezer for cooling. While you are waiting for that to happen,

you’ll choose a custom name for the color and a font, then wait as a laser engraves the name on the tube. Your tech will seat the lipstick, pop on the magnetic (!) lid, and, voila, you are done. Wow. There are other items for sale in the boutique, like primer and liner, and you can add a second tube on for a reduced price. (You’ll understand where the name comes from after you see the show—and, oh boy, is the name magical!) Arthur Lucero

Creating magic behind the bar Arthur Lucero moved to Las Vegas to seek “more opportunity, something exciting, more social,” he says. And that’s exactly what he got! Lucero works as a model bartender for the Strip residency show Magic Mike Live Las Vegas at Sahara Las Vegas and he found everything that he’s been looking for. When he moved to the city in 2013 from Taos, N.M., he cut his teeth in the industry bartending for hot spots like Piranha nightclub. Then, in 2017, he heard about the Magic Mike movie franchise opening up a live show at the then-Hard Rock Hotel, so he decided to audition for one of its model bartender positions. He landed the job and stayed with the show until it closed at Hard Rock. He bartended at bars and restaurants in Park MGM until he caught wind that the show was opening at Sahara. “When I heard the show was set to reopen, I reached out to the managers, who were happy to welcome me back, which was a huge honor,” Lucero says.

The show recently celebrated its grand opening. “We get all types of guests from all over the country,” Lucero says. “They’re always a little nervous because they don’t know what to expect. As part of the model bartending team, the experience begins with us. I let them know, ‘Let’s have some fun tonight.’ The goal of the show is to remind women how powerful and precious they are, so celebrating them the moment they come up to the bar, that’s what it’s about. The smile you see when people walk out of the theater—you can see their aura glowing.” While Lucero works his magic behind the bar whipping up cocktails, I had to ask if he ever gets to shake his groove thang for guests, so to speak. “I always like to insert a corny joke when guests ask that. I like to tell them, ‘I auditioned but word-of-mouth straight from Channing Tatum (who conceived and co-produces the show), the only thing I have business shaking is a cocktail.’” Ha! –Kiko Miyasato

Jean Georges Steakhouse at Aria strikes that balance, and despite what the name says, this is a restaurant where you can partake in a variety of unforgettable culinary experiences. The first thing that strikes you about Jean Georges Steakhouse is the way the dining room looks. There are no hard lines here; only soft, comforting curves. The entire room flows and has an ambience that begs you to stay as long as you like, and trust us, you’ll want to, especially when you start sampling signature cocktails. Japanese whiskey fans will love the Japanese Old-Fashioned, in which the spirit is enhanced by demerara sugar, ginger and bitters. Vodka lovers have their choice among the orange elderflower Cosmopolitan, with accents of cranberry and pineapple, the espresso martini, with coffee liqueur and espresso combining for quite a kick, and the JG Vesper, where gin, aperitif and lemon lift your spirits. The classic starters you would expect are all here—iceberg wedge and Caesar salads, bacon-wrapped shrimp and char-grilled octopus—and they all shine. Sometimes the familiar is a great way to start a meal! But this is a steakhouse, and you might want to be more adventurous and try the Japanese wagyu carpaccio, so flavorful and served with black truffle fritters. It’s meant to be shared, but you may find yourself wanting it all. If you want steak for your main course, we certainly couldn’t blame you. After all, all steaks are of the highest grade, and are all grilled on sustainable apricot wood and mesquite, finished with rendered beef fat, sea salt and cracked pepper. Whether you try an 8-ounce filet mignon, 8-ounce ribeye cap from Mishima Ranch, or 3-, 6- or 9-ounce A5 certified Kobe beef, you’ll be happy with your choice, especially when pairing it with king crab legs, diver scallops or bone marrow.

Adam Steck keeps the stages filled Producer Adam Steck’s company, SPI Entertainment, is known not only for ushering in some of the Strip’s most popular and unique shows—including male revue Thunder From Down Under and a headlining residency from Boyz II Men—but also managing some of the busiest showrooms in town. Until recently, Steck’s focus was on the Thunderland Showroom at Excalibur, also home to The Mac King Comedy Magic Show, but this year SPI also partnered with The STRAT on the north end of the Strip to program its classic Vegas theater. Business has been booming for you in 2021 with lots of new projects, but has your original show, Thunder From Down Under, recovered well after last year’s temporary shutdown? Not only has the audience come back, they’ve come back in droves. We had a record summer. We’ve never done this kind

of business in our 20-year history in Las Vegas. It’s like the floodgates are open. All the bachelorette parties that couldn’t happen (during the last year), they’re making up for that. Girls 18 to 80 are coming back, letting their hair down and coming to see the show that’s been successful for so many years. The recent addition of Mac King to that room at Excalibur seems like a natural fit given his long success on the Strip and family-friendly appeal. Mac King is a legend. He’s been around town as long as me, so when I was asked if we could put this deal together and do the King at the castle, I thought it was a no-brainer. There are very few shows that can play in the afternoon with a brand like that. How did this new partnership with The STRAT come to be, and how did you

go about curating the new shows in that theater? I never stopped working (during the pandemic). I’m always plotting and planning how to expand, what shows can go where. This property just finished this $100 million renovation and it looks really good and has a great energy. The building is iconic, it has Top of the World, one of the coolest restaurants in town, and the showroom itself is phenomenal. For years, they only had one show there and I said I’d like to maximize the real estate and make the property stickier, so when people go there, they have multiple entertainment options. We set out to have shows at 4 p.m., 6 p.m., 8 p.m. and 10 p.m., and now those spots are all filled. In addition to the ongoing MJ Live tribute show, you’ve added magic with Xavier Mortimer, mentalism with Banachek, a party dance show called iLuminate, and you have Sammy Hagar’s residency coming online later this month. I’m a rocker; classic rock is my jam, I love all kinds of music but I grew up in classic rock. Sammy is a legend, from his band Montrose back in the day to Van Halen, one of the biggest bands of all time, and after that he had the Circle ,which is also very successful. To have the opportunity to work with Sammy at The STRAT is unbelievable. He loves the room, he could have picked any place in town but he just loves the vibe there, and the whole idea is to bring his Cabo experience to Las Vegas. The showroom is going to be transformed into his club down there in Cabo. What are some of the keys to success in entertainment on the Strip? We have the history in Las Vegas to know what generally works. A show that might work in New York or off-Broadway or some other place might come in thinking it’s going to kick butt, and most of the time it doesn’t. Twenty-plus years of doing what we do, being on the ground in Las Vegas and being able to wear different hats and have different roles, it’s been quite amazing.
