When you’re making that Las Vegas checklist of things do while you’re here, odds are it contains at least one of each of the following: entertainment, dining, cocktails, attractions and outdoor activities. If that’s the case, you are about to read the perfect edition of Las Vegas Magazine. We’ve compiled a bit of everything in the following pages, and we guarantee that if you follow the suggestions within, you’ll have a Las Vegas vacation to remember. Associate editor Kiko Miyasato spends much of her time discovering the various craft cocktails around town, and she’s put an extremely tempting array together (“We’ll Drink to That,” p. 28). Just remember: Call an Uber! Entertainment has almost completely returned to town, including comedian Eddie Griffin, who performs at Sahara Las Vegas. Editor-at-large Brock Radke recently talked to the entertainer about the impact the pandemic shutdown had on him and how it’s changed his show (“Can’t Stop the Laughs,” p. 36). Cirque du Soleil is gradually bringing back its productions to the Strip, and, of course, they had to start with Mystère, the first Cirque production in the history of the city, at Treasure Island (“Welcome Back!” p. 42). Need more entertainment? You can’t go wrong with Blue Man Group at Luxor, a

great mix of music, comedy and audience participation that’s meant for the whole family (“A Uniting Force,” p. 16). For adults only, there’s the long-running Fantasy, also at Luxor (“High-Energy Sensuality,” p. 8). Fans of Michael Jackson have got to check out the tribute show MJ Live at The STRAT, a show that will have you dancing in the aisles (“Mirror Image,” p. 10). And fans of rock music will love 27—A Musical Adventure at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, paying tribute to the legends who died at 27 (“Before Their Time,” p. 13). The dining scene in Las Vegas shines bright, from the Irish-themed Nine Fine Irishmen (“Pop Into the Pub,” p. 22) and elevated gastropub Libertine Social (“Eat, Drink and Be Merry,” p. 10) to ideal brunch spot Veranda at Four Seasons (“Brunch and Much More,” p. 12) and Italian favorite Buddy V’s Ristorante at The Grand Canal Shoppes (“Family Affair,” p. 14). High-Energy Sensuality Your mental image of “adults-only topless show” might not exactly jive with the experience you’ll have at Fantasy, one of the longest-running and successful shows currently on the Las Vegas Strip, which returns to the Atrium Showroom this month. Obviously, you’re expecting something sensual and erotic, and Fantasy is definitely that, but you might not expect it to be so … funny.

It starts with host/singer Lorena Peril, who specializes in helping to break down the inhibitions of audience members. She’s so full of energy you can’t help but pay attention, and soon enough she’s zeroing in on specific people, asking some, er, intimate questions. But it’s all in the spirit of good fun, and you’ll be laughing along every step of the way—in between the ridiculously energetic dance

numbers by some of the most beautiful, inshape women you’re ever likely to see. Humor also comes courtesy of “half-time” act talented magician Murray Sawchuck. Depending on the day of the performance, you may see Jonathan Goodwin, a death-defying daredevil who captivated audiences on America’s Got Talent recently. It’s a satisfying evening of entertainment. –Ken Miller

Eat, Drink and Be Merry In 2016, star chef Shawn McClain and world-renowned mixologist Tony Abou-Ganim joined creative forces and opened modern gastropub Libertine Social. “It was truly a collaboration throughout,” Abou-Ganim told Las Vegas Magazine. “I met Shawn when we did Iron Chef America together and we’ve been friends ever since—working festivals, charity events together and we always talked about collaborating. And he came to me one day and said he has a potential venue at Mandalay Bay; that’s how it all started. Libertine Social—it’s all in the name. It’s a place that’s social, fun, something for everyone.” On the cocktails side, guests can sip through a specially created collection of swizzles, fizzes, barrel-aged, bottled and classic craft cocktails. On the food side, a not-to-miss appetizer, and one that has become a signature, is the caviar fried eggs with slices of brioche toast for dipping. The house-baked pretzel with a beer cheddar fondue and the delish cheese board are also great starters. Oh, So Decadent

Mirror Image Yes, Michael Jackson is a polarizing figure. No one is disputing that. But the impact of his art on so many things—fashion, dancing and, of course, music—is also indisputable. It’s nearly impossible to avoid The Gloved One’s influence in modern entertainment; countless artists acknowledge how they owe their careers to his inspiration. Another indisputable fact: Las Vegas loves Michael Jackson tribute shows. Before the pandemic shutdown, there were no

fewer than four iterations of the King of Pop along the Strip. And one of them, MJ Live, is back and delivering killer versions of most of his classics. It’s all due to the magic of Jalles Franca, who inhabits the moves, spirit and even voice of the man and the legend. Palace Station bar and lounge has it all There’s a must-visit in town for all those that love watching the hottest plays—in sports, that is. Tailgate Social is just what its name implies—a tailgate experience within a bar and lounge setting perfect for watching the WNBA, Olympics and upcoming NFL season. With a welcoming design—dark woods, cool lighting fixtures, leather sofas, bar-top and hightop seating and various lounging nooks—every seat in the house is a perfect spot for game viewing from the more than 30 high-def TVs and an enveloping sound system. Extra fun is added by way of pool tables, foosball, video games and poker machines. Grub here gets an upgrade from the typical bar food menu. Handcrafted burgers and sandwiches include a Maine lobster roll, mini vegan

cheeseburgers and a Nashville hot fried chicken sandwich. There are even entrées like grilled fish tacos, house-smoked baby back ribs and a 12-ounce sliced New York steak. Pizzas, salads, apps, sides and desserts round out the menu. Tailgate Social also exceeds expectations in its cocktail offerings. Domestic, hard-to-find beers, and beers on tap (like local favorite 7Five Training Day Golden Ale from Vegas Golden Knights player Ryan Reaves) fill out a robust list. Then there’s the specialty cocktail list—an impressive menu of handcrafted recipes that elevate the drinking experience. The Game Day margarita with Espolòn tequila, Cointreau, lime, agave and Grand Marnier float and the Gin + Juice with Bombay Sapphire gin, cucumber, mint and lime are familiar cocktails with a delicious

spin. For something sweeter, try the Knight Cap, a martini-style treat mixed with Grey Goose Le Vanille vodka, espresso and chocolate bitters. For some truly out-of-the-ordinary sips, try the Thirst & Goal, a mix of Martini & Rossi prosecco, Aperol, grapefruit and rose water, or the Raging Bull with Grey Goose vodka, ginger beer, lime and smoked cherry syrup. For something with a stronger kick, try the Moon Runner with City Lights Shine cherry lemon moonshine, pineapple juice and a blackberry float, or the Hall of Famer with Wild Turkey Longbranch bourbon, orange oil, lemon oil and bitters. Before Their Time

Tribute show features legends who died at age 27 In reality, a rock concert lineup like this could only exist in our dreams: Robert Johnson, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse. Each one of these musical renegades influenced the genre. Each one had a unique style that was completely their own. Each one died at the age of 27. But that dream concert is now reality. Enter the new Las Vegas tribute show, 27—A Musical Adventure. First off, the space is perfect for this show— there’s really no bad seat in the house, and guests will be happy to know there’s a full bar in the back of the theater. You’ll also hear the familiar voice of actor John O’Hurley over the speakers—he’ll guide you through the musical adventure, dropping bits of knowledge about each rock star before they hit the stage. Up to the mic first is John Arthur Bingham playing blues guitarist Robert Johnson, whose

legendary sounds influenced many of the ’60s-era rockers, including the next singer out to the stage: Janis Joplin, played by Adi Argelazi. The real Joplin rose to fame after her juggernaut appearance at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, and the tribute artist that plays her brings back all the grit and gloriousness that shone through in Joplin’s voice, in songs like “Piece of My Heart” and “Mercedes Benz.” Next out is perhaps the greatest rock guitarist of all time, Jimi Hendrix, nimbly played by Nazim Chambi, who performs hit after hit like “Purple Haze” and “Foxy Lady,” along with an impressive revisit of Hendrix’s stunning Woodstock Music and Arts festival performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Jim Morrison impersonator Toby Rand gives audiences a real taste of what it would have been like to see the real deal in concert. While

singing hit songs “Light My Fire” and “Break On Through” he dances around the stage and slithers into the crowd. Closing out the show, the timeline moves more toward ’90s and early ’00s musical influencers, first with Seattle grunge legend Kurt Cobain, portrayed by Gabe Maska. Revisit the hits that you can’t help head-banging to like “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “Come As You Are.” English singer and songwriter Amy Winehouse appears last, but impersonator Lea Cappelli packs a punch with her soul hits like “Rehab” and “Back to Black.” This impressive show is a perfect combination of phenomenal music, all sung live, with a rocking live band and each tribute artists’ intense dedication to bringing their characters special persona and voice—back to life. –Kiko Miyasato Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, 702.693.5000

Family Affair Buddy V’s Ristorante equally combines upscale dining and home-cooking for a comfortable menu that Nonna would be proud to serve. When you visit, Grandma’s Meatballs may be the starter for you, with pork, veal, beef and topped with marinara and Parm. But speaking of Parm, My Wife’s Eggplant Parm may be right up your alley, breaded and fried, and covered in mozzarella, tomato and Parm. Although Cake Boss’ Buddy Valastro may have his faves, my boss’s choice is the Toscano salad. He raves about it, how each element—prosciutto, roasted artichokes, baby arugula, pecorino Romano and lemon vinaigrette—perfectly complements the next. Believe him. Choose from several pizzas for a casual lunch. But for the main event, try My Mother-In-Law’s Linguine Shrimp Scampi that combines garlic, spinach, tomatoes and white wine with lemon and pecorino, or order Valastro’s Sunday Gravy that piles a rich sauce made with sausage, pork, lamb and meatballs over rigatoni. Thrills Aplenty If you are looking for a little family fun, visit Adventuredome at Circus Circus. The indoor theme park (it’s located under an iconic see-through pink dome) features rides and attractions that appeal to every age group. The thrill seekers will love coaster rides Canyon Blaster and El Loco, and the newest ride, NebulaZ, which spins riders up, around and every which way on two massive arms with cars at both ends. sic rides like Sand Pirates, which swings you through the air, Disk’O and the Inverter, which spin and flip you, respectively. A 4D theater brings you along on the antics of classic cartoon characters. For the younger set, you’ve got Drifters, (a mini hot air balloon ride) a carousel, the Thunderbirds plane ride, Miner Mike (a coal train ride), plus others. At the Guinness Store, one of Ireland’s most celebrated exports gets its proper due. Located next to Irish bar and pub Rí Rá, the store features a huge range of themed merchandise, slippers, koozies, glassware (including custom-engraved pint glasses), T-shirts and hoodies and much more. A Uniting Force

Luxor production celebrates music and comedy Before the Blue Man Group show even starts, you’re in a great mood, thanks to a live digital ticker on both sides of the crowd giving the audience instructions, such as applauding for notable athletes in the crowd or saying “Happy birthday!” to someone in unison. It’s so simple, but it really gets the crowd warmed up and loose for the fun to come. Once the propulsive EDM music begins (anyone who’s been to Electric Daisy Carnival will know exactly what we’re talking about), it’s hard to not move your body around. The Blue Men instantly appear, making sounds with objects that don’t look like instruments at all, moving

their bodies rhythmically, their eyes wide and full of curiosity. Families with young children should know that this is as all-ages as a show can get. There’s barely anything spoken during the entire show (other than tutorials on how colors are interpreted in our brain and how plumbing works); the Blue Men wordlessly discover the musical properties of Cap’n Crunch and cell phones, not to mention the artistic possibilities of chewed gumballs, mouths full of marshmallows, and paint spilled on drums that are being furiously pounded. One of the show’s signature moments—when an audience volunteer is brought onstage to

share a dinner with the Blue Men, complete with music, flowers and Twinkies—has been changed slightly in keeping with safety protocols; we don’t want to give too much away, other than to say the segment is every bit as hilarious as before. By the time the show climaxes with large, mechanical insects that can be played like a percussion instrument, followed by smoke rings billowing from drum sets—we dare you to not try to catch one!—you’ll be on your feet and working up a sweat. Sometimes we need reminding that, in this time of great division, music is still a uniting force. –Ken Miller

Good Morning, World! Get ready to take on your day of fun by fueling up at Salt & Ivy Café and Patio Bar at Aria during breakfast and lunch. There are so many good dishes that you’ll have a hard time choosing—the chicken and waffle, steak and eggs with chimichurri sauce, breakfast nachos, shaved ribeye sandwhich, and eggs Benedict with Canadian bacon are great options. But the Dutch baby pancakes in cast iron skillets are something you may want to return for the next morning. Three varieties include a veggie one with roasted seasonal vegetables and a sunny-side up egg; one with Serrano ham, buttery Mahón cheese, sunny-side up egg and a Romesco sauce; and my favorite, the blueberry and lemon curd. It’s like a cross between breakfast and dessert, and stands up there with the most luscious pancakes. Legends of the Fall So you think you’re brave, do you? Well, test yourself on SkyJump Las Vegas, where you jump off the top of The STRAT, from 855 feet up. Like a skydiver, you’ll leap out into the air, strapped into a harness, descending at speeds approaching 40 mph. You’ll fall past the Top of the World restaurant and 107 SkyLounge, and may startle a few folks there as you plummet past. But never fear—you will be slowed down before you land, and there are guide wires which help keep you on course. But that knowledge won’t stop the incredible adrenaline surge you’ll feel on the way down. –NK The STRAT, 702.380.7777

Flash Dance Naked, naked, naked. Men, men, men. What more do you need to know? Well, what about the fact that Uncensored The International Show has a cast of dancers that hail from countries across the globe—Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Spain, the Ukraine, Italy. And, yes, they do all get down to being fully unclothed. The high-energy routines pull in pop music from all over as the men use faux shower curtains and stripper poles to accent their assets.

Drag star Shannel (of RuPaul’s Drag Race, season one) plays host and introduces each of the “stallions” (the show’s terminology, not ours, although we wouldn’t disagree at all). Each dancer gets a turn in the limelight, and a unique stage configuration means the audience gets oh-so-close during the numbers. The first lady of Palace Station Caesars Palace has Caesar. New York-New York has the Statue of Liberty. And Palace Station has Bernice Boykin (just call her Ms. Bernice). While the iconic statues lord over those two properties on the Strip, you’ll find Boykin is quite the icon herself at Palace Station. The Louisiana native serves as the property’s guest ambassador and has been a familiar face there for 42 years. “I moved to Las Vegas in 1964 because that’s where the money was,” Boykin says. She started out waitressing at the Desert Inn and The Frontier and left the industry to become a housewife. But by 1979, she was itching to get back to work and applied at Palace Station (known then as Bingo Palace). “The moment I walked through the door—it felt like home the first day,” Boykin says. She started out on the casino floor and then moved to the change booth. “That’s where I first met the late Mr. Fertitta (the owner),” she says. “He came up to the booth and needed change

for a $100 bill and he said, ‘I like the way you count that money.’ I said, ‘Thank you,’ but I didn’t know him from nobody. He was just like a regular guest. He asked me if I wanted to do something different. How about counting some money? And that’s when I went over to the casino cage, and I worked there for 38 years.” About three years ago, Boykin left the cage and worked in promotions for a few months and then took on her current role of interacting with guests out on the floor of the property. “I talk to the guests, make sure they are comfortable,” she says. “Once they hit that door, they’re in my hands. … I’m gonna keep working here till they throw me out! I have no reason to leave. I love people. People love me. Everybody knows me. I appreciate all the team members from all Station Casinos for what they’ve brought to the company. Is it time to eat dinner or is it time to have a drink? Well, it’s Nine Fine Irishmen at New York-New York, so it’s appropriate to do either or both! The pub itself is cozy, with little nooks to tuck yourself in during dinner, and a long, long bar to get a beverage. As it’s a pub, start dinner with beer— Guinness, an Irish stout that combines a measure of sweetness with a strong finish, is perfect. But there are plenty of Irish choices on draft here, like Kilkenny cream ale, Harp lager and Magners cider. You can also get Elysian Space Dust, an India pale ale that is exceedingly flavorful, and locally brewed blond ale Showtime by 7Five (Golden Knights’ Ryan Reaves’ brand). If those don’t shake your world, you can get classic mixed beverages like the Black and Tan or plenty of bottled domestic and craft beers. And yes, you can find just about any cocktail you want, with colorful names, plus a really good selection of whiskey. Fill in the gaps left between beers with apps, including the Irish nachos, thick slices of curled potatoes covered with beer cheese sauce, green onions and chive aioli. Add on chicken, steak or even corned beef to spice the dish up a little. You can also get that beer and cheese sauce with assorted bread for dipping. Fried dill pickles and fried

sausages are both beer-battered, served with dipping sauces. And it wouldn’t be right if you didn’t try the traditional fish and chips—beer-battered Alaskan cod served with tartar sauce and Irish chips. Another classic dish is the chicken pot pie, with chunks of chicken, onions, carrots and a creamy tomato sauce blanketed by a flaky crust. There is, somehow, something quite satisfying about breaking open the crust of a pot pie and having a steamy cloud carry the fragrance of your meal upwards. For a more American experience, order a 16-ounce bone-in ribeye or a New York strip steak, accompanied by herbed tomato and

pearl onions. To lighten it up a bit, try grilled chicken or salmon. If you’re all about weekend brunch, the Irish breakfast piles on an Irish banger, Irish bacon, eggs, tater tots and good old white toast. Get those potatoes in a slightly different form with the Pub Breakfast fries, with two eggs on thick steak fries, adding on corned beef and green onions. Do you like a little sweetness with your morning meal? Bailey’s French toast will give you all the flavor of the classic drink, with powdered sugar coating the whole shebang. Nine Fine Irishmen is open until 10:30 p.m. for dinner, and features bands both inside and on the patio; hours for bands vary.

adds even more depth to this increasingly popular part of town. Out in the wide open west near the Summerlin community, a wildly popular Los Angeles joint has planted roots in Las Vegas. Dave’s Hot Chicken (702.843.5455) recently debuted in a former fast-food spot on West Sahara Avenue, and the drive-thru window line has been wrapping around the parking lot since day one. Hungry Hot Chicken fans can’t get enough of the crispy fried tenders and sliders available at seven different spice levels; luckily, there’s always a steady supply of cool dill pickles to put out the fire caused by this addictive poultry. And in the distant southwest valley, a lesser-known Mexican dish is being celebrated and taken to new heights at the recently opened Gabi’s Gorditas (702.268.7466). This fast-casual spot on Blue Diamond Road is putting a healthier spin on Mexican cuisine by using only natural, high-quality ingredients and hand-crafting tortillas for its namesake gorditas, filled with flavorful picadillo made with beef, pork and Peruvian purple potatoes or slow-simmered chicken tinga. Grab a side of Hawaiian-style poke or pickled cactus salad and broaden your horizons. It seems like there’s always something new on the Strip at Sahara Las Vegas, which continues to renovate and add new options like the updated Zeffer’s café concept set to open this month. But at Bazaar Meat by José Andrés (702.761.7610), the resort’s landmark restaurant from the legendary eponymous chef, the newest element in the kitchen is executive chef Candace Ochoa. She’s been working with Andrés for more than a decade, and now that she’s in command of this Vegas institution, Ochoa is adding her own spin to Bazaar’s beautiful blend of experimentation and classic preparations. If you haven’t dined here lately, it’s time to return. And speaking of true destination dining, there’s something not new but newly reopened at Park MGM. NoMad Las Vegas had previously reopened its swanky bar and lounge but just recently reactivated The NoMad Library (702.730.6785), the stunning dining room serving a luxurious take on American classics such as Oysters Madison, seared scallops with minestrone and garganelli pasta, bone marrow-encrusted filet mignon and other creations from the mind of executive chef Michael Rellergert. WHEN YOU GO SEE EDDIE GRIFFIN perform at his reopened stand-up comedy residency at Sahara Las Vegas, you better be ready. The veteran funnyman has never shied away from controversial or taboo topics over the course of his 30-year career onstage, and he’s not about to change his ways after a global pandemic and a polarizing presidential election. Griffin’s latest comedy special, Laughin’ Through Your Mask, captured his performance the day after the Capitol attack in January. “It wrote itself,” he laughs. “Those (rioters) proved building a wall does not work, the way they climbed the Capitol walls.” A longtime Las Vegas resident, Griffin has maintained a Vegas residency for years at the Rio and then SLS Las Vegas, which transformed into the Sahara in late 2019 but wisely held onto their in-house comedy star. For now, he’s performing at the new Magic Mike Live Theater until the under-construction larger theater space is ready for his show.

You’ve been back onstage across the country for a while now, but how long did your own personal entertainment shutdown last? I went out on the road every weekend during the whole pandemic. I was out there the whole time. Never caught a damn thing!

me that box of junk. And they wonder why people are fighting on the plane. They’re hungry! If somebody’s got a warm belly, they tend to go to sleep, so feed us! What was it like performing early on in the pandemic? By the end of the show, everybody took their mask off anyway. But I had this joke for the first five minutes, I invented this mask that opens up with Velcro. I’d come out and say, “This is gonna be the show, you can’t see my mouth, this is it baby! I don’t trust none of you!” Then I pull it down, like, “Psych!” And the mask is for sale. Whip it down, sip a drink, smoke a cigarette, whatever. It seems like every comedian has dipped into politics in

recent years. Have you always engaged that way? I always have. On my first (appearance) on Def Comedy Jam, I did politics, talking about Rodney. Somebody has to say it, so it might as well be me. I’m sure I’ve missed out on quite a few films because of my nonconformity. I mean, Undercover Brother 2 starred Michael Jai White, so yeah, something went awry. How did the Undercover Brother (character) go from someone my size to that? But it’s comedy, damn it. It’s not called the serious show, it’s called a comedy show, and people who (get offended) are people who take their own position in life too seriously. It’s a short trip we have on this marble, flying through space at hyper speed. It’s quick and then it’s over.

It’s been an eventful few years for SpeedVegas, a racing experience just south of the M Resort that offers not only drifting and exotic cars, but also a custom-built dirt track that promises adrenaline-pumping fun for all skill levels. Even if you’ve already driven a Ferrari there or achieved serious air on the 1.4mile dirt track, SpeedVegas has changed things up considerably, promising an even more memorable experience the second time around. Not to mention a much safer one as well. With COVID-19 still very much a concern, SpeedVegas is maintaining a rigorous cleaning schedule, including all high-touch surfaces and highly trafficked areas like the clubhouse, cars and back-of-house areas.

Every customer receives the following equipment upon arrival: face mask, disposable gloves, head sock, safety glasses, and Tyvek suit. In addition, SpeedVegas utilizes a UVC lightbox sanitation and disinfecting system for helmets, and all cars are driven with the windows down to ensure a constant supply of fresh air. Every guest station has been retrofitted with acrylic glass shield protectors, and the facility’s Speed Cafe and pit counter areas are now closed; they’ve been replaced by

new software technology for an improved guest experience, and snacks are still available in a vending machine area. None of these measures remotely reduces the fun factor of the experience, however. Just wait until you take your first drive on the facility’s dirt track, a true difference maker in a crowded field of racing experiences across the Las Vegas Valley (no other facility offers anything like it). Currently, drivers can choose from 15 custom-built vehicles, each valued at $160,000 and featuring state-of-the-art equipment. After a quick video and some basic lessons, drivers are set loose on the course, with SpeedVegas technicians feeding you information through radio communication in your ear. And SpeedVegas has introduced a serious upgrade to the offroad experience with its 6100 class of custom-built trucks. His resume includes a win in his racing class at the 2012 Mint 400. He also operated an off-road racing company in Boulder City for years, and knew exactly what kind of course he wanted to design upon taking the reins at SpeedVegas last year. For those coming to SpeedVegas to race exotics, more good news: You can now drive any car for one lap, instead of the traditional five-lap minimum that many tracks have adopted. “If you want to come and drive a Ferrari for one lap only, we will let you do that,” Bulrice said. “Then if you want to drive a Lamborghini and then a Porsche, you do not have a minimum on any one of those cars. If you’re not sure what car you want, this gives you options.” SpeedVegas’ fleet of exotics is always changing, so return visits are mandatory for fans. Yes, there will always be the Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Porsches, but now look for Corvettes and the Nissan NSX. “Our ultimate goal is to be the No. 1 motor sports destination in the world,” Bulrice said. “If you want to know more about cars, SpeedVegas is the place you want to come.”

Cirque du Soleil’s classic Mystère returns to an enthusiastic reception 42

Cirque du Soleil’s original production (it opened in 1993, changing the face of Las Vegas entertainment forever) has lost none of its appeal or energy, especially now, returning after shuttering for more than a year. As you walk into the theater, don’t be surprised if, once you’ve given your ticket to the attendant, you find yourself in the spotlight—literally. A clown, who wanders through the theater before the show starts, delights in pranking random audience members—maybe you! Maybe you’ll be directed to the wrong seat; or maybe you’ll take your seat and suddenly have popcorn spilled all over you. But whether it’s you or someone else, you’ll be laughing almost immediately,

and you quickly become aware how much fun this show is going to be. And Mystère never disappoints in the fun factor department, from the oversized baby looking for his “Papa” (he finds him, by the way, and again, you could be “Papa,” depending on where you’re sitting) to the reappearance of the clown throughout the performance, performing magic tricks and generally messing around with the other performers.

Barnum & Bailey Circus in 2017, it’s getting harder to find classic circus performances. Luckily, Mystère is helping to keep these skills front and center for future generations. A thrilling trapeze routine has “dueling” aerialists mirroring one another as they fly from bar to bar, never missing a beat. Other aerialist acts high over the audience range from beautiful to gasp-inducing. The opening-night performance seemed to imbue its cast with an extra burst of energy and enthusiasm. Even the host—an iconic part of the proceedings, accompanied by an orange puppet who seems inspired by The Beatles Yellow Submarine movie—seemed to appreciate the significance of the moment. As he announced Cirque’s new tagline, “Intermission is Over!” the audience responded enthusiastically, a pattern repeated throughout the evening. A thunderous standing ovation at the end seemed to truly touch the performers. Anyone wondering whether live entertainment was missed in Las Vegas got their answer that night.

Whether it’s checking out the beautiful scenery on a nice slow-paced ride or putting your cycling skills to the test, there’s great options for everyone.

RIVER MOUNTAINS LOOP TRAIL You can actually access this bike path from the Union Pacific Railroad trail. Just cross over the bridge and this path will take you to popular points like Lake Las Vegas and Hoover Dam. This loop is more than 35 miles, so pick your paths wisely if you don’t plan on making this a long trip. The paved trails are surrounded by the River Mountains where big-horned sheep roam, so don’t be surprised if you catch sight of some along the way.
