A message from the conductor ANTHONY CABRERA
excitement, gratitude, and just a tiny bit of happy disbelief. Your enthusiasm, your support, and your love for this organization and the music we make made this moment possible, and we truly cannot thank you enough for being here with us tonight.
ABBA's music has a magical way of bringing people together. These songs are joyful, nostalgic, heartfelt, and irresistibly fun. They remind us that music has the power to lift spirits, spark memories, and create moments of pure happiness. That's exactly what we hope this evening becomes for you. Tonight is about celebration, connection, and the simple pleasure of sharing fabulous music in the same space.
As we celebrate tonight, we also hold close the spirit of our season's theme: INVINCIBLE. It speaks to our resilience in light of the experiences we are living through and to the unity that defines us as a community. All while calling on us to never forget the reason we sing - to change hearts and minds through the power of music.
Sing along, we know you'll want to. Tap your feet, we know you can't help it. Smile at the memories (or flashbacks) these songs bring to mind. Most of all, allow yourself to enjoy the moment and let loose! Who knows, the Super Trouper's beams may just find you in the crowd!
On behalf of the entire Gay Men's Chorus of South Florida, thank you for being part of this music-filled celebration. Your presence is what transforms a performance into something truly special. Now, let's have some fun, Dancing Qaweeens!!!!
Anthony
A message from the Artistic Director GABE SALAZAR
As I continue my medical leave, my heart is with every singer, musician, and audience member gathering for our ABBA concerts. ABBA's music reminds us that joy is an act of courage, and that spirit carries directly into our season theme, where we affirm that love, truth, and community always rise above fear. I send my deepest gratitude and best wishes for concerts filled with harmony, resilience, and the unshakable belief that together, we are INVINCIBLE.
THE GAY MEN’S CHORUS OF SOUTH FLORIDA (GMCSF)
MISSION: We sing so that LGBTQ+ people can live their truth through quality music experiences that inspire audiences, open minds, change hearts, and affirm our common humanity. VISION: A diverse world united.
The Gay Men's Chorus of South Florida (GMCSF) is a vibrant community of voices, blending generations and cultures in harmony with one mission: to shape a brighter, more inclusive future through music. GMCSF stands as a powerful force for advocacy, using the universal language of music to transcend social barriers and uplift the LGBTQ+ community.
With a roster of over 170 talented singers, GMCSF is the largest gay men's chorus in the southeastern United States and one of the top ten LGBTQ+ choruses in the country. Our grand-scale concerts, meaningful community engagements, and volunteer-driven outreach touch lives throughout South Florida and beyond. Under the direction of Artistic Director Gabe Salazar, GMCSF captivates more than 35,000 live audience members annually, while welcoming over 72,000 visitors to its growing digital platform, gmcsf.org
A significant milestone was reached in December 2016 when GMCSF partnered with Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood to present its holiday concert at Hard Rock Live. What began as a landmark event has evolved into a dynamic nine-year partnership rooted in music, visibility, and community impact. Today, Seminole Hard Rock continues to amplify its mission as the Amplified Season Sponsor and host of The Chic & Unique Ball, its signature fundraiser.
The Chorus welcomes singers of all identities who sing in the lower vocal range (Tenor 1, Tenor 2, Baritone, Bass), with auditions held throughout the season. Our impact reaches from Miami Heat and Miami Marlins Pride Nights to the International Gay Polo Tournament in Wellington and Treasure Coast Pride Fest at the Saint Lucie County Fairgrounds, driven by the heart and dedication of our volunteers. Whether on stage or in service, GMCSF stands united in building bridges and creating space where everyone can live their truth.

A message from the MARK B. KENT executive director
Welcome to our ABBA concert! We are so glad you're here.
As we gather tonight to celebrate the timeless music of ABBA—songs that have brought joy, resilience, and a little sparkle to generations—we also celebrate something just as meaningful: your important role in the extraordinary season our chorus is experiencing.
This season has been marked by growth—artistically and organizationally. Our audiences are growing, our partnerships are deepening, and our impact is widening. In a world that can sometimes feel divided, our chorus remains a joyful, visible testament to authenticity, inclusion, and pride. When we sing together, and you support us, we affirm that every voice matters and that harmony is something we can create—on stage and beyond.
If tonight's performance moves you—if you find yourself humming along, smiling at a memory, or feeling that familiar ABBA-inspired urge to dance—we invite you to consider deepening your connection with us. Whether through a financial contribution, corporate sponsorship, volunteering your time, or simply spreading the word about our work, your support helps ensure that this chorus continues to thrive for years to come.
I want to give a quick shout-out to our Assistant Conductor, Anthony Cabrera, who stepped up to lead the chorus when Gabe was not able to do so. How lucky are we to have not only a brilliant artistic director, Gabe Salazar, but also an exquisitely talented assistant conductor like Anthony? We surely must be the envy of any choral organization. I am profoundly grateful to these two men for bringing their gifts to the chorus and the community.
Thank you for being part of our journey this season. Thank you for believing in the power of music, in the importance of LGBTQ+ visibility, and in the strength of community. We are honored to share this stage with you and grateful for your presence tonight.
Now, sit back, sing along (when appropriate!), and enjoy the show.
With gratitude,
Support us as we amplify the voices of the LGBTQ+ community. SACAN QR CODE TO DONATE

PHIL CORDELL,
Associate Producer
For Phil Cordell, supporting the Gay Men's Chorus of South Florida is rooted in belief. Belief in music. Belief in mission. Belief in the power of joy during uncertain times. As Associate Producer of GMCSF's ABBA concerts, Phil stepped forward because he sees how the Chorus lifts spirits when the world feels heavy.
"I'm a big believer in the vision and mission of GMCSF," Phil shares. "We're living in very unsettling and gloomy times, and the positive spirit and energy regularly shared through the Chorus is amplified even more through the music of ABBA." He hopes this performance allows audiences "to smile a bit more and celebrate a bit more positivity of human spirit than we might have otherwise."
Phil grew up loving ABBA. The music made him want to dance, to breathe easier, to feel carefree. Supporting this concert is his way of passing that feeling forward. "I'm honored to help share a bit of that spirit with others through this performance." For our singers and audiences, his wish is simple and powerful: "A bit more joy. Contagious smiles. Belief in love. And as my grandmother would have said, a bit more pep in your step."
Phil lives by three words: Live. Love. Matter. His philanthropy reflects that mantra. "I try to support causes that bring that to life for me and others. GMCSF, and specifically ABBA's music, are great examples of how to make that happen in so many ways. It's a huge honor to play a small role through this gift."
Phil's leadership reminds us that generosity fuels artistry. When donors invest in GMCSF, they help create quality music experiences where LGBTQ+ people live their truth, audiences feel inspired, and our shared humanity shines a little brighter.

ABBA's ascent to international acclaim was the result of years of musical development and collaboration rather than instant success. The group's origins trace back to 1966, when Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson met while performing with two of Sweden's most prominent musical ensembles. Their early partnership established the creative groundwork that would later define ABBA's distinctive sound. As their work progressed, vocalists Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid "Frida" Lyngstad joined them – both musically and personally – forming the two couples who would eventually unite as the quartet known as Agnetha--Björn--Benny--Anni-Frid, or simply ABBA. Although the four had been collaborating since the early 1970s, their breakthrough came in 1974 when they won the Eurovision Song Contest, the world's largest live music event, now involving nearly 40 participating countries and drawing over 160 million television viewers. Their winning entry, "Waterloo," launched them onto the global stage and marked the beginning of their enduring influence in pop music. Notably, other internationally renowned artists – including Céline Dion (1988) and Julio Iglesias (1970) – also participated in Eurovision early in their careers, underscoring the competition's longstanding role as a catalyst for emerging talent.
ABBA rose to international prominence in the 1970s and early 1980s. They have remained especially popular in Europe, Australia, and the U.S., and their albums have consistently topped the charts worldwide. Their rise to fame was the perfect blend of songwriting mastery, vocal chemistry, a distinctive, joyful sound that cut through the rock-heavy 90s, and a strong visual identity that made them instantly recognizable. Their songs blend disco, Europop, and pop rock, featuring lush harmonies, catchy hooks, strong studio production, and emotional storytelling. With more than 400 million records sold globally, their catalog continues to attract new audiences and consistently performs well on charts worldwide.
The group is known for many iconic hits, including "Dancing Queen" (which reached number 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100), "Mamma Mia," "Take a Chance on Me," "Fernando," "The Winner Takes it All," and "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!"Their work has been widely featured on stage, in film, and on television, including Mamma Mia!, Muriel's Wedding, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Stranger Things, Glee, and Modern Family, reinforcing their lasting cultural impact.
ABBA had long held a place in LGBTQ+ culture. Their songs celebrate resilience, joy, and emotional honesty – qualities that resonate deeply with people who've faced social or personal challenges. Their bold costumes, theatrical flair, and disco-pop sound made them natural icons in queer nightlife, drag shows, and pride celebrations. "Dancing Queen" stands out as a timeless gay anthem, embraced for its exuberance and sense of freedom. ABBA's dramatic melodies and campy style only deepen their appeal, helping cement their music as a joyful soundtrack for LGBTQ+ expression.
In 1979, ABBA introduced "Chiquitita" at the Music for UNICEF Concert and pledged all royalties to UNICEF in perpetuity. Every time the song is streamed or purchased, the royalties go directly to UNICEF. This partnership has raised over $5 million for UNICEF's programs protecting children from violence, abuse, and exploitation. ABBA later extended their support by donating royalties from their 2021 Christmas release, "Little Things," helping fund initiatives that protect girls from violence and promote gender equality.
Personal changes, shifting musical tastes, and the strain of fame led the group to step back. They never formally announced a breakup, but they stopped recording and performing together after 1982. By the time ABBA stepped away, they had already secured their status as a lasting influence in global pop culture. Their songs, image, and story continued to resonate across generations, making them one of the most enduring acts in modern music history. After decades of declining reunion offers, ABBA surprised the world by returning to the studio and recording new material between 2017 and 2021. This work culminated in Voyage, released in 2021 – their first new album in 40 years. The project blended classic ABBA harmonies with contemporary production, offering both nostalgia and a refreshed sound.
ABBA never reunited for a traditional tour. Instead, they created a groundbreaking virtual concert experience in London. The 100-minute Voyage concert features digital "ABBAtars" of the band as they looked in the late 1970s. A ten-piece live band performs on stage with the digital avatars. Hosted in a custom-built 3000-seat arena in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the ABBA Arena uses innovative visual effects to recreate the group's youthful stage presence. The Voyage show opened in 2022 and has become a phenomenon, drawing fans of all ages. Its running has been extended until June of this year.
ABBA's music not only defined the 1970s but has continued to influence artists and producers across multiple genres for decades. Their melodic craftsmanship, harmonies, and production style remain recognizable in pop, dance, indie, and electronic music. Tribute performances, covers, and remixes have helped sustain their cultural presence, while each generation has discovered their catalog through different mediums. "Boomers" remember them from the 70s, "Gen X" rediscovered them in the 90s, "Millennials" were introduced to ABBA through the stage and film versions of Mamma Mia, and "Gen Z" found them through TikTok and streaming platforms.
The enduring appeal of ABBA's work lies in its emotional range and distinctive warmth. In a world that can often feel overwhelming, their music offers a sense of comfort, optimism, and joy. This combination of sincerity and uplifting energy has made their sound timeless and ensured its relevance across future generations.

WE’VE COME SO FAR IN OUR LIFETIME
Let’s Keep the Momentum Going!
Many of us recall a time when television would never show two people of the same gender sharing a kiss… or holding hands. Now, we live in a time when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of marriage equality. We've accomplished a great deal, yet there is still much more to do. Since the late 1970s, the LGBTQ+ Choral Movement has been a crucial tool for advocacy, unity, and education. GMCSF is proud to continue this legacy through our music. We are pleased to serve as cultural ambassadors for our community, providing a voice for those who may not have one. Help ensure this work continues by joining The Pegasus Society's planned giving program. In addition, by including GMCSF in your estate planning, you can help sustain our organization and keep our voices active for many years to come.
We invite you to join the members of The Pegasus Society today. If you want to amend your current estate, contact Fiel Garcia at (954) 763-2266 ext. 111 or fgarcia@gmcsf.org.
