Pakistan lies in a geographic region where temperature increase is projected to be higher than the global average. One of the major threats identified in Pakistan’s National Climate Change Policy (NCCP) is the projected recession of the Hindu Kush, Karakoram, and Himalayan glaciers due to global warming and carbon soot deposits from trans- boundary pollution sources. Glacial recessions are also a prominent threat due to the country’s arid climate and its reliance on water from glaciers and snowmelt. Glacial melt in the Himalayas is expected to increase the flooding of the Indus River and its tributaries over the next two to three decades, which will be followed by decreased river flows as the glaciers recede. https://glof2.pk/our-challenges/
