Dr.Chackorecalls“manypersonalinteractionswith patientspresentingfortheirfirstmammogramwith ‘lumps’”–asituationthatearly,preventativescreeningis designedtoavoid. “Breast cancer screening is supposed to detect cancer early to enable successful outcomes,” he emphasizes.
This “clear, unmet need” wasparticularlyacuteforthose outsidemajorurbancenters.“Accessishighlyunequal,”Dr Chackoexplains. “Urban centers are generally well served by private imaging facilities, but rural and lower-income communities face long travel times, waiting periods, and affordability barriers. Even middle income families and women struggle with accessibility in smaller towns all across South Africa.”
Healsoobservedthatthepublicsector,despiteits efforts,oftenstrugglestofillthisvoid,with infrastructuresometimes “overstretched or unavailable entirely for specialized imaging like mammography.” Thedirectconsequence,herealized, wasadangeroussilence.“Themosturgentgapis consistentaccesstoscreening-levelimaging— especiallyforearlydetectionofdiseaseslikebreast cancer,”Dr.Chackoidentified.

Radhiant,basedinEastLondon,EasternCape,was thusbornwithafocusedpurpose,initiallyservingthe Border-Keiregion;oneofthepoorestofthecountry, andwithonly4privateradiologypracticesacrossthe entireprovince,withapopulationofover7million. FoundedinJanuary2023,itisSouthAfrica’sfirst fullymobilemammographycompany
“Our‘why’isrootedinequity,access,andearly detection,”Dr.Chackoaffirms. “We have designed Radhiant to deliver high-quality screening directly to where women live or work — removing logistical, financial, and even psychological barriers.” The company’smissionisbothambitiousandclear:“to normalizepreventativecareandreach50,000 womenannuallywithinthenextthreeyears,with afocusonconvenience,accuracy,andpositive outcomes.”Thisquietdeterminationtochange healthcarerealitiesdefinesRadhiant’score.

Theprocessisdesignedforpatienteaseandefficiency.“Wedrivedirectlytoworkplaces,events,clinics,or communitycenters.Patientsstepin,arescreenedinprivate,andwalkoutinapproximately15minutes.”
