Camps at Glen Echo Park are the perfect way to encourage your budding artist. From Spring Break to Summer camps programs, there’s something for your aspiring artist or performer. Get ready campers for three days of movie madness! Design and build your own original character from professional animation clay. Create a background setting with foam board, found objects, and mixed media. Use Sculpey and glow-in-the-dark clay to give your creation unique details. Using Final Cut Pro, students learn basic and advanced stop-motion techniques, animation, and sound design, adding sound efects and dialog to the class production. Campers will explore the fascinating world of moving sculptures, and learn how simple machines—cams, cranks, levers, and linkages—work together to create motion. They will use these mechanisms to design and build their own moving sculptures from scratch using cardboard and other materials. Projects may include whimsical creatures, characters, or kinetic scenes brought to life by turning a handle. Campers will develop hands-on skills using safe tools and materials. This camp guides campers in exploring various art materials to create awesome abstract art. Crumpling, tossing, folding, dropping, wetting, rolling, rubbing, turning inside out and upside down are just some of the ways we will manipulate materials. We will also use our hands to make art– campers should wear clothes they won’t mind getting paint on or bring an apron. This camp places emphasis on process, allowing young makers to become confdent in the basics of composition while reinforcing motor skills. This camp is for the camper interested in exploring ideas, emotions, and personal stories through both words and visual art. Students choose or write a poem or song lyric and transform it into a mixed-media artwork using collage, color, texture, and expressive mark-making. Along the way, campers will learn the history of collage, fundamentals of layout and composition, and how to work confdently with a variety of materials. In addition, campers will also design and create a personal deck of inspiration/afrmation cards, combining text and imagery to express themselves. Unleash your inner fashionista. Professional designer/branding processes used. Create a logo, solidify your style, then up-cycle. From sketchbook to runway, transform existing garments from home and a few supplied by the instructor. You will learn tried and true techniques to create wearable garments that are YOU. Use paint, dye, bling, cutouts, patch, stencil in individual and group challenges. Bring your sewing kit or use our supplies. Machine-sew at home or our assistant will sew in class. Celebrating over 45 years! Experience musical theater in a fun, full-day camp for rising grades 1-6. Your child will work alongside accomplished D.C. area theater professionals and teaching artists during daily rehearsals in dancing, singing, and acting. With props and costumes, music, movement, and scene-work, your child’s experience will culminate in a performance of a full, youth–appropriate show for friends and family. Please note that students are grouped with their peers, and casting is at the discretion of the director. Space is limited!
