With the Gundy Pub at Gundiah, north of Gympie, running its first ever night time rodeo on Friday April 6, it was sure to be a successful night. Ian, who decided to get back on bulls after a 20year gap, tied for first place with Brisbane cowboy Scott Ward with 76 points

Before the Friday night event Ian said that he fell asleep on the couch after work the day before and had dreamt that he won the rodeo – so it looks like dreams do come true. Ian went on to compete in Brisbane last Saturday night in the novice bull riding event where he is competing against cowboys half his age. Unfortunately he bucked off a bull named Thriller this time. I know that many people in the 4553 postcode have missed receiving the Glasshouse Country & Maleny News in their letterbox every week. We have continued to bulk drop as many newspapers as we can into the townships, which we know are well received, however we are always keen to try and do more to support the local businesses and community groups. In this week’s edition we included a ‘Moo for Mooloolah’ feature, which we are hoping to do on a regular basis, and are keen to ensure that as many Mooloolah locals see the feature by
producing this on-line version as well. The frequency with which we are able to include these features will be directed by businesses in the Mooloolah area. Potentially the features could be created once a monthly, or every second month, or even each season (4 times a year). We are keen to work with local business to create what works for them. Mooloolah community groups receive $65,000 grants Member for Caloundra Mark McArdle has congratulated Hinterland community groups in Mooloolah Valley who will receive a combined total of just over $65,000 from State Government grants as part of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund. The Suncoast Hinterland BMX Club will receive $31,000 to install an electronic starter gate, and the Suncoast Hinterland Softball Association will receive $34,500 to construct a shed with a slab. “This is great news for these community groups that are run by dedicated mums and dads and selfless individuals,” Mr McArdle said. The next round of funds will open mid-April and Mr McArdle encourages as many groups as possible to apply.

Authentic Chinese cuisine at Mooloolah Back in November last year, new owners took over the Mooloolah Chinese Kitchen which they renovated to create a simple and comfortable place to come and enjoy a night out or to just stop in and grab some takeaway. For over 20 years, their family has been running Chinese cuisine restaurants across the Sunshine Coast at Maroochydore, Buderim, Cooroy, Pomona and Gympie. GC&M News spoke to their cook Shoaman Du. I give a moo for mooloolah Give it a go and keep the heart of Mooloolah beating A Night for Captain Jack Mooloolah Valley Country Club is hosting a special fundraiser evening for 18-month old local lad Jackson Hislop who has Quadriplegic Dystonic Cerebral Palsy. The community is rallying behind the event, billed as ‘A Night for Captain Jack’, this Saturday, April 21, at 6pm with an aim to raise funds for a transport wheelchair van. Tickets are $25 which includes a night of live music, great food, lucky envelope draws, a glass of wine, beer or soft drink on entry, with nibbles and delicious spit roast sliders. There will also be an auction on the night with some fabulous items available including a stunning green emerald and pearl bracelet and earing set from The Jewellers Bench at Landsborough, a mountain bike donated by Cycle Zone Mooloolaba, and Evolution Espresso at Chancellor Park will provide a coffee every single day for an entire year to one lucky bidder. This special event is all about fundraising for twoyear-old Jackson, who lives with his mum and dad at Mooloolah. Jack has had an eventful and nerve wracking start to life so far, he is the surviving twin born 15 weeks early and having a 132 day stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Jack’s mum Kristy Lea Hislop explained that she and Jack are out and about most days as it's what Jack enjoys most. His latest favourite is to go to the aquarium and people watch. Kristy said she would hate to get to the point where they are staying home because it's too hard for them to go out. However, as Jack has Quadriplegic Dystonic Cerebral Palsy and Kristy finds it really difficult to load Jack’s special 39kg chair into the car, along with the challenges of lifting Jack into the car, particularly on a bad day, when the Cerebal Palsy causes the muscles in his body to spasm, the family have decided it's time to move to a wheelchair vehicle for everyone’s safety. Meanwhile Kristy has found an economical
option, the family just can’t afford the vehicle without assistance. The event to be held at the Country Club on Saturday night will be a great support in getting the funds required and they have also set up a Go Fund Me page where you can contribute. Kristy is really proud that Jack doesn’t let CP hold him back from enjoying a full and happy life though, describing Jack as the absolute light of their lives and as a cheeky little character! "We are so proud of Jack and it's clear his gorgeous personality has won many hearts, when you look at the huge outpouring of support we have received from the community," she said. “We really appreciate every bit of support we have received so far. "We are truly overwhelmed by the amount of support the community have shown us. We are running out of ways to say thank you!

I went for the steak and Brownie opted for a creamy bowl of pasta, which got our seal of approval and the size of the meals definitely put paid to any ideas of fitting in dessert.
