Gut health diet changes A NEW survey of more than 1,000 Australians has found gut health is becoming an increasingly important focus for people looking to improve their overall wellbeing, with 72 per cent saying they have changed their diet to support better digestive health. The research, commissioned by nutrition tracking app MyFitnessPal, found Australians are making dietary changes for a range of reasons, with improving digestion and reducing bloating the leading motivators for 63 per cent of respondents. Overall wellbeing followed closely behind at 61 per cent, while practical concerns such as better bowel regularity (47 per cent) and weight management (46 per cent) also featured strongly. The survey suggests Australians are increasingly

adopting everyday habits aimed at improving gut health. Common changes included adding fibre to meals, avoiding eating late at night, increasing fruit intake and taking probiotics. Many respondents also reported reducing foods and drinks they believed could negatively affect gut health, including fast food, excess sugar, alcohol and ultraprocessed foods. Nutritionist and MyFitnessPal ambassador Michaela Sparrow said the findings reflected growing awareness of the important role gut health plays in general health and wellbeing. “Australians are embracing gut health as a key part of their overall wellbeing,” she said. “People are motivated by both how they feel dayto-day and their broader health goals.”

She said the survey highlighted that Australians were not only looking to include healthier foods in their diet, but were also paying closer attention to foods they may need to limit. The poll also revealed uncertainty around fibre intake remains common. While fibre was identified as one of the most important ways to support gut health, only 51 per cent of respondents believed they were consuming enough. Around one quarter said they did not think they met recommended intake levels, while others were unsure how much fibre they should be consuming. Michaela Sparrow said improving understanding around nutrition and healthy eating habits could help Australians make more informed food choices and better support long-term gut health.

SOUNDS Good has just returned from the National Hearing Congress on the Gold Coast which showcased the latest in hearing innovations and technologies from around the world. Several leading manufacturers have launched new product ranges in the past few months with some very exciting, and very different approaches to how to approach hearing loss. Several speakers at the event discussed the importance of early

intervention and diagnoses of hearing loss, with all suggesting more routine hearing tests at earlier stages. Having a test allows for monitoring of potential concerns in later years and support along the way. Feeling like your hearing is not what it used to be? Or never had a test of your hearing levels? Now is a great time to call Sounds Good and arrange a time to come in for a check of your hearing thresholds. Most tests performed at the clinic are FREE of charge, so whether you know of existing hearing loss or feeling that your

hearing is not as good as it once was, call Ben to arrange a check-up. Sounds Good is an independent clinic and can repair, maintain and re-calibrate all makes and models of hearing aids. The clinic has parts and general consumables for most brands in house. If it’s not in stock, we can arrange to have them sent to the clinic if needed. If you need information or want to discuss your current hearing situation or devices just give the clinic a call. Monday to Friday. Local to Maleny. Independent. Phone 0410 467 090.
