Hi Everyone I got an email Monday morning which was entitled what are your true year’s resolutions – and with my editor’s eye I thought someone didn’t proof read their subject line, but once I got into the email I realised I had jumped to conclusions. The point they were making is that on the stroke of midnight on December 31 do we put down our drinks and instantly sit down and write out our financial plan for the year, or phone the gym to organise our gym membership? No, January is still holiday time – how can we be expected to get down to the hard realities of making changes when there is still so much fun to be had! So apparently it is ok to get started now and we can just refer to our goals as ‘True Year’s Resolutions’ well that definitely suits me –
and I have decided to make my resolutions about having fun – and enjoying myself and finally putting together a bucket list of things I would like to do. Sadly, I realised that maybe doing some of the things on my list may involve me having to do some hard stuff first like sorting out my financial plan, and going to the gym and getting fitter so I can do the type of travelling that should be on a bucket list? Aaaahhh ‘True Year’s Resolutions’ sounded easy – but really when does anything really great ever come easily? Regards,

Council demolishes wrong building Investigations are continuing into how council began demolishing a building of significance in Mooloolah that had been earmarked for restoration.

Last week, a contractor who was engaged to demolish the old guide hut at the Mooloolah Recreation Park instead began demolishing the adjacent building, the old cream shed. If it wasn’t for one local resident, Paul Wilson, who had to sit in a different train carriage on his normal morning trip to Brisbane, and noticed the roof of the building was gone, the building may have been completely destroyed, according to community spokesperson Jan Kesby. Jan, who is the coordinator of a local Mooloolah community group that has been working with council for the past couple of years to get the grounds reinstated to the community, said she was absolutely disgusted at Council. She said there had been lots of discussion with Council over the past two years regarding upgrades and improvements to the land and the old guide hut and the cream shed, with Council agreeing to fund the cost of the removal of the asbestos-ridden former guide hut. “We had been waiting to hear from Council when the demolition was to occur, but instead we find out they were pulling down the wrong building," she said.
"As a community we’ve invested lots of time, effort and energy into repairing the cream shed, and now we’re back at square one." Jan said a lot of Mooloolah residents would remember the cream shed fondly, as the town’s annual Christmas party used to be held there. “Buildings are part of the history and heritage of a town, and with Mooloolah celebrating its 150th birthday in two years, it’s a shame there’s not too much history left in the town,” Jan said. Division Five Councillor Jenny McKay said council is investigating how the incident occurred. “Council is very apologetic to the community that this terrible incident has occurred. The situation is totally unacceptable and Council will be investing whatever is necessary to restore what was demolished,” Cr McKay said. Cr McKay said the building had been identified as a building of significance, and was earmarked for restoration and renovation. “These mistakes are very expensive, but I congratulate members of the community for having their eyes on the ball, and acting quickly when they noticed the mistake.”

Crops or small change – what value do we place on the future of farming? The future of farming has come under the spotlight again, following talk of another supermarket price war, this time on produce. And in the Glasshouse hinterland, a veritable fruit bowl and one of the region’s richest farming districts, it’s a subject that is always up for discussion. This week, we spoke to both growers and consumers to get their opinions on what it means to shop locally, support local retailers, and buy Australian grown produce. Glass House based Natures Fruit Company chair Ros Smerdon said customers should think about the story of where their fruit and veggies come from, and where our farmers will be in 10 years time. “If we want to continue to have the option of buying Australian grown fruit and vegetables, we must support our local growers,” Ros said. “We don’t realise how spoilt we are for choice and value when it comes to fresh produce,” she said. She said with major supermarket chains controlling around 70 per cent of the market, it was imperative that consumers made a more conscious decision about where their produce is coming from, rather than just the price. “All they (the government) think about food security in this country is about stopping
Ken Fullerton diseases, not about preserving farmers’ existence,” Ros said. “Here in Australia, our costs of regulation are huge, and we are constantly being audited, but the same rules don’t apply to produce that is imported from overseas. “It makes it very difficult for our farmers to compete if they aren’t on a level playing field.” Last year, a national poll found eight in 10 Aussies aged 18 to 64 think price is more or just as important as country of origin when purchasing food, while 60 per cent hardly ever check to see where their food comes from. The survey, by Crossman Insights, found that around half (47 per cent) of Australian grocery buyers don’t care where food comes from, as long as it’s good quality and reasonably priced, while 56 per cent think imported food keeps Australian prices competitive.

Local farming family the Fullertons are well aware of the many issues facing the future security of what has long been one of the country’s most productive industries. Ken Fullerton, a fourth generation pineapple and macadamia nut farmer reiterated the importance of buying local and supporting local farmers. “You also know where your produce is coming from when you buy from your local retailer,” Ken said. Ken said while there was a future for farming, no one could predict how long that would last. “There’s certainly a big demand for fresh fruit and vegetables, but with cheaper imports flooding the market, the price farmers receive for their crops may not be worth their time and the effort of harvesting them,” he said. Ken’s brother Chris is chair of a local committee that has been working with Growcom, Biosecurity
Queensland and DEEDI to help stop the import of Malaysian pineapples. He said they were required to put forward a strong scientific case in response to an Import Risk Assessment of Malaysian pineapples, which carry a disease that could effectively result in losses between five and 60 per cent of their crop. “Imports like these put a lot of risk on our local industry, and it’s something we take very seriously,” Chris said. “Losses like that are not sustainable, and it would mean the end for growers like us.” Chris said they were hoping to hear back from the government later this month.

So the next time you head out to buy your weekly supply of fresh fruit and vegetables, take note of where they come from, and give some consideration to the many hours of toil it has taken to grow the crops we so readily take for granted. Volunteers are needed for one 45 minute session per week in the garden or one 90 minute session in the kitchen to help the children learn the wonders of growing, cooking and sharing the food they grow. Sports club acknowledges long serving members The annual general meeting of the Sports Club was held on December 13, last year. Ken Fullerton was again elected president, along with Elaine Reeves (secretary), Peter Young (vice president), Brian Sorohan (treasurer) and Stephen Forster (committee member). At the meeting Ken Fullerton presented Bill Milburn with an honorary membership in recognition of his service to the Sports Club and its affiliated clubs over many years. The first stage of Sunshine Coast Council’s community engagement with the people of Beerwah about the PLACE+ program finished late last month and the results are outstanding. Locals have responded really well with more than 250 people filling out the feedback forms. Many others have provided feedback at workshops or responded to the online survey, mail outs, ads in the paper and the business survey. The energy and enthusiasm has been significant and all the information is now being collated into themes to use for the next stage of the process. Next steps The next steps on this exciting journey will be taken today (February 8) with the last call for registrations in the Beerwah PLACE+ working groups. The teams will be divided into the various themes identified during the community engagement – and will review the comments and suggestions put forward by the people of Beerwah.

What is the PLACE+ program? The PLACE+ program focuses on council and communities working together to make great places on the Sunshine Coast even better. Beerwah is the first place to benefit from this program which covers a range of issues including infrastructure, business and community development. PLACE+ is council’s version of ‘Place Making’ which is a philosophy based on building better communities. It has been successfully introduced in other centres around Australia and the world, with a focus on long term commitments to people, places and partnerships.

GCNews was contacted by the President of Glasshouse Mountains Advancement Network (GMAN), Cliff Schnick last Monday to advise that the group were planning a Candidate Evening for Division 1. During the week GMAN began organising the event - and it would seem that the timing coincided with one of the candidates contacting local media outlets advising them that he was going to be putting a challenge out to other candidates about participating in a candidates evening. GMAN President, Cliff Schnick said the GMAN management committee's decision to propose and offer to organise a public candidates forum was made at its January meeting and was taken on the basis that GMAN, being an apolitical organisation, would undertake this task in a manner that would not be seen to favour or promote any individual candidate.

Regional Queensland artists could receive between $5,000 and $30,000 for their projects with round one of the 2012 Regional Arts Fund (RAF) now open. Applications close on Monday, March 12 for projects commencing July 1. Last year, the Fund injected over $347,000 into regional Queensland communities, contributing a total project value of over $1,090,000 to the state’s regional arts economy. Next Wednesday, February 15, will be the Glass House Country Chamber of Commerce’s first meeting for the year – and it is held from 5.30pm at the Glasshouse Sports Club on Steve Irwin Way. This will be a general meeting where we will be discussing a number of issues including our plans for 2012, which we see us heavily involved in the co-ordination of the Glasshouse Country Sustainability and Garden Expo as well as a range of business networking events to be held throughout the year. The expo has grown over the past few years to be one of the region’s most popular annual events, 2012 will see the event run as a joint venture between the Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club of Glasshouse Mountains Inc. Chamber of Commerce Executive member Ben Foster will be heading the co-ordination of the event, heavily supported by Rotary’s Bob McLean. Bob has done an amazing job with the Sustainability & Garden Expo for many years. We are fortunate to have his event management skills and vast local knowledge and experience to draw upon as we move ahead with our preparation for the event. The ever-growing Expo will this year focus on many aspects of sustainability, the environment, as well as health and wellbeing, gardening and fresh produce. There will be plenty of food, demonstrations and family fun, there’s sure to be something for everyone at Beerwah Community Hall and Turner Park on Sunday, May 27. The first of the networking events for this year will be held on March 21, from past experience these events are a great way to get the chance to meet-up and chat with other local business people. Doing Business User-pays approach for waste generators Changes are coming for thousands of businesses that generate trade waste across the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay regions. Unitywater will be phasing in a standardised user-pays approach to waste permits, controls, fees and charges that will see the same rules applied to all waste generators from July 1 next year. And unlike current arrangements, permits will be issued directly to all trade waste generators. The waste generator will also now be responsible for the quality of the trade waste discharged in to the sewer and for trade waste permit fees and strength charges. Affected businesses are encouraged to visit one of two Unitywater information sessions this month and find out more. Changes to Unitywater bill
Customers can expect a change for the better when Unitywater accounts begin arriving in letterboxes this month. Meter reading has commenced under the new billing schedule and accounts will be issued within days of customers receiving their meter reading notice. Unitywater CEO Jon Black said customers would now receive quarterly accounts and all charges, including fixed access fees, would now apply in arrears. He said issuing accounts within days, rather than months, of meters being read will make it easier for customers to monitor their water use. The first account issued under the new schedule would be a one-off ‘transition’ account, covering an extended water usage period and a shorter than usual period for fixed access charges, to bring the dates for all charges into alignment.

Kids Feet Fit for the New Year With the new school year here, replacing outgrown school shoes should be on your list of back to school tasks. Children spend more than eight hours each day in those shoes so it is vital they are in correctly fitting, comfortable footwear. Shoes that are too long for the foot require abnormal muscle contractions in the feet and legs when walking, while shoes that are too small prevent the ‘big toe joint’ from moving through its range of motion and thus promotes degenerative changes to the joint structure. Excessive wear or abnormal wear patterns on the soles of the shoes often reflect alignment problems in the feet and lower limbs and should be assessed by your podiatrist. These are just some common issues associated with children’s footwear fitting. Ingrown toenails? Sweaty, summer feet in school shoes will often exacerbate problems with ingrown toenails. An ingrown toenail will be swollen, red and inflamed around the edges
of the nail, and often becomes infected. This problem is due to the actual shape of the nail plate or a piece of the nail piercing the skin (which should be properly removed to allow the toe to heal). A hallowed or hollow find?
Re: Steve Irwin Way comment:
I support the sentiments expressed by Brian Stallworthy in this paper recently. Last February I was driving between Beerwah and Landsborough in the early evening, in wet conditions, when my kerb side wheels hit a patch of water, causing the steering wheel to jerk and the car try to aquaplane. A few hundred metres further on, the driving side wheels did the same. At the same time, traffic going the other way passed by me approximately half a metre away. I contacted our State Member asking about plans for an upgrade and received a typical ‘Pollies’ reply. I later found out that my ward councillor Anna was better informed about the position. I agree, how many head on fatalities do we need before this road, or should I call it a track, is upgraded with proper road engineering? They say it’s the squeaky door that gets attention. A piped culvert in the Council Reserve adjacent to our home in Harold Place, Peachester was completely scoured out during last year's severe flood rains. It had been thought that the culvert consisted of a concrete pipe. We were surprised to discover that the pipe is, in fact, a four metre long hollow eucalypt log. Exactly when the crossing was constructed is a mystery. It is possibly a great example of pioneering ingenuity? Perhaps the Historical Society may be able to throw some light on this intriguing find. If and when Mr Powell becomes part of the Queensland Government, then we can ‘bash’ him for all we like for not fixing our roads. Until then all he can do is make representation on our behalf to the Minister for Main Roads. The Minister for Main Roads is responsible for monies and decisions to fix our roads damaged 12 months ago. Where have you been?
The Conondale Range National Park was 7,000 hectares until Labor increased it to 35,000 ha after the SEQ Regional Forest Agreement. While wildlife is gradually disappearing from suburbs, Labor understands the importance of preserving species such as the koala in larger contiguous protected areas. Labor also funds scientific research into vulnerability of species, and representation of ecosystems in parks. It has more than doubled the park estate in SE Qld, and has targets to increase this. At the same time Labor has made over 350 km of horse trails in SE Qld and has developed The Great Walk in the Hinterland, which is vital to the eco-tourist industry. Many walking trails, camp sites and facilities have been developed in the Conondales, Glasshouse Mountains and others. Ranger numbers have increased 60 per cent,
I write in response to comments by Cr McKay (GCNews, January 25). In this article Cr McKay tells us how important it is that we are a seamless region, not a divided one. The councillor goes on to tell us she has 12 years’ experience behind her and all candidates need to recognise the Hinterland exists and not just to contribute towards to paying rates. In Division 1, we have a number of candidates and one that is clearly a leader in the field is Bob McLean. Proposed Footpath
With regard to the proposed footpath to Australia Zoo, several questions need to be addressed. 1. Who asked for this path? What ratepayers asked for it? The proposed path does not pass any houses. 2. Crossing Steve Irwin Way is required. Crossing, bridge or lights needed as this is a highway? More expense? 3. Free zoo bus meets trains at Beerwah. Railbus and Translink (Sunbus) buses call at the zoo regularly. Who would want to walk three kilometres each way to Beerwah or Landsborough after walking around the zoo for up to six hours? 4. Who would pay for suggested rest stop areas on the footpath suggested by Terri Irwin? 5. If Steve Irwin Way is eventually upgraded to four lanes, this path could disappear with subsequent waste of funds. There are unfinished walk/bike ways between Beerwah and Glass House that would greatly benefit ratepayers and their children. This would be a better use of ratepayers money than the proposed path. When we get heavy rain like we’ve had recently, there is a road near Beerwah with a culvert at the end of a swamp where the water flows over. There are driveway entrances beside the culvert that also get flooded. The drivers of passing vehicles seem to have no consideration whatsoever of the damage done by the wash when the vehicle hits the water. Damage at Landsborough’s Peace Memorial Park
The wrought iron gates for Landsborough Peace Memorial Park that were erected to commemorate the end of WW1 was not enough to keep joy-riding vandals from creating nothing but a boggy misery for the local community and the Landsborough Cricket Club on Friday night. Not only now have the cricket club volunteers mowed and helped maintained this public facility, they now also have to spend their hard earned fundraising to replace and repair the grounds and the artificial wicket that was destroyed. It’s bad enough that these hoons show no respect for their local community, but to show no respect for a Memorial Park is just downright disappointing and disgusting. Casey McIntrye

Well not only is 2012 well and truly here but it’s February already! That means that we all should be back into some kind of routine after the holidays, where the kids were driving parents crazy and everyone avoids work as much as finances will allow. Have you ever though to yourself that life would be so much more pleasant if we didn’t have to work at all? Most of us would have more than once, particularly on Monday mornings. Generally the idea is that we want a job where we can work as little as possible, earning as much money as possible so we can retire as early as possible and finally enjoy life. Unfortunately, if that’s our logic, the 70 per cent of our waking hours before retirement will have to be spent enduring the hassle of work. If our mindset can be adjusted now however, we may find we can bring meaning and purpose to our work rather than it being an unfortunate necessity for survival. If you

At least we usually get paid at the end of the week! Why not examine what you do for work and discover how it may be an opportunity to serve not only your boss, but God Himself in the place you find yourself each weekday, and start enjoying life with Christ before retirement! Living Well Registrations now open to help Clean Up Australia Mark your calendar – the annual Clean Up Australia Day will be March 4 and the Clean Up team has their sights set on increasing the number of site registrations. In 2011 more than 565,510 volunteers across 7,400 sites removed an estimated 16,464 tonnes of rubbish across Australia. Clean Up Australia’s Chairman and Founder, Ian Kiernan AO, is confident that 2012 will be even bigger. “We’re urging all Australians to take notice of clean up hotspots in your local area and let us know where they are - whether you can help out on the day or not,” said Mr Kiernan. “Your local park, waterways, beaches, road sides or back alleys are key areas and we are asking you to join the team by letting us know where these areas are.” “Everyone can do their bit for Australia, individually or as part of a team. Clean Up Australia Day is a simple way you can clean up, fix up and conserve our greatest resource – Australia.”

Research shows dairy accelerates weight loss Including dairy foods such as milk, cheese and yogurt in a weight loss diet can help accelerate fat loss, according to a new scientific review published in the International Journal of Obesity. Researchers identified 16 studies which looked at the effect of dairy consumption on weight, body fat mass, waist circumference and lean muscle mass in adults. After reviewing the studies, they concluded that consumption of three to four serves of dairy foods, as part of a calorie-restricted diet led to greater weight and fat loss compared to a standard calorie-restricted diet. The increased dairy diets also led to a greater loss of fat from around the tummy. Dairy Australia dietitian Glenys Zucco said the research showed including dairy in your weight loss diet not only helps you to lose fat, but also maintain or gain lean muscle mass. "Preserving or gaining muscle is very important for maintaining metabolic rate and preventing weight regain, which can be a major problem for people wanting to lose weight," she said. While the mechanisms for dairy’s weight loss

All three remembered and understood the workings of tools like Bullocky Jacks (also called Screw Jacks), Wallaby Jacks, Cant Hooks, Crosscut Saws, Mauls and Wedges. “Wallaby Jacks were called that because the metal lever operating the jack resembles a wallaby’s tail,” said Howard. Nev recalled the different sets of teeth in a crosscut saw. “Most saws had raker teeth between the cutters. Rakers didn’t cut the timber but removed the sawdust,” he said. Nev also observed that all the saws in the Bankfoot House collection predate World War I. A metre long timber plank with a series of holes has mystified volunteers for years but Bill Ferris immediately recognised it as a Blacksmith’s tool rack. The day was very informative for the volunteers, and thanks to these three gentlemen, they now have a better understanding of the range of tools in the Bankfoot collection. www.gcnews.com.au

Recent evidence suggests dairy’s affect on appetite regulation may also play a role in weight loss benefits. “Dairy protein and calcium are thought to help control hunger, particularly in a calorie-restricted diet,” Ms Zucco said. “More research is needed to understand how dairy foods increase weight loss when dieting, but in the meantime, enjoying three servings of dairy foods each day as part of a nutrient-rich, balanced diet can help maintain a healthy weight.” A serve of dairy is equal to 250ml of milk, 200g of yogurt or 40g of cheese.

Last week, we caught up with shoppers at Matilda Fruit Barn on Steve Irwin Way to find out why they have made a conscious effort to shop locally for their fresh produce. Rodney Wild of Bald Knob has shopped at Matilda Fruit Barn every week for years. He said he would rather support local producers rather than the big supermarket chains. “It’s a win-win situation for all, the farmer gets more money in his pocket, and I get better value for my money, and better quality, and I am also supporting a local business as well,” Rodney said. Rose Ballard from Caboolture stops in at Matilda Fruit Barn at least once a week on her way home from golf in Beerwah. “Not only do I receive value for money, the service is good, and I know that I am buying local produce, and supporting local business and industry,” Rose said. Former Glass House Mountains resident Sue Lord, who has recently moved to Maleny, still makes the trip to Matilda Fruit Barn for all her produce. Not only does she want to help secure local jobs by supporting a local business, she likes being able to buy fresh, local produce, such as pineapples and eggs, and said it was important to her to support local industry. Peter and Diane Bowler of Elimbah shop at Matilda at least once a week. “There is always a lovely range of fresh fruit and vegetables, it’s good value, and we can get locally grown produce,” they said. Borrowers give fixed rate home loans the cold shoulder Borrowers’ fondness for fixed rate home loans took a tumble in January for the first time in eight months, according to loan approval figures from the country’s largest independently-operated mortgage broker. Mortgage Choice customer data for January 2012 shows fixed rate demand accounted for 21 per cent of all new home loan approvals, a fall from 24 per cent in December 2011. A company spokesperson said their latest loan approval figures suggest borrowers taking out new loans at the start of this year were less concerned with locking in their loan’s interest rate than those who took out a new loan in late 2011. She said the popularity of fixed rate loans fell by three percentage points in January, recording the first drop in demand since May last year. “Interest rate cuts and generous discounting on variable rate loans could be the key drivers behind borrowers giving fixed rate loans the cold shoulder. The margin between fixed and variable has narrowed, with most variable rates now sitting only slightly higher than fixed rates,” the spokesperson said.
“If the Reserve Bank decides to cut the cash rate further during its meeting on Tuesday and lenders pass on all or part of the savings, some variable rates could very well fall below fixed rates. If this occurs, next month’s loan approval data may show a bigger shift towards variable rate loans. She said customer demand for variable rate loans in January rose to 79 per cent from 76 per cent in December, which is below the 12-month average of 85 per cent. “Of all the variable rate loans, ongoing discount rates - where the interest rate is discounted over the entire loan term - maintained their popularity. Demand for this loan type reached an all time high at 46 per cent of approvals, up from 41 per cent in December and above the 12-month average of 37 per cent.” Demand for basic variable loans fall slightly to 14 per cent of all approvals in January, from 15 per cent in December while standard variable loan demand dropped marginally to 15 per cent from 16 per cent. Line of credit loan popularity held steady at three per cent and interest in introductory rate loans remained below one per cent.

Water monitoring along the Mooloolah River has shown huge increases in turbidity, mainly due to landslips in the Upper Mooloolah Catchment. Rising Stage samples for event monitoring have been installed to pick up the flood and turbidity levels. Paul, our Waterwatch Co-ordinator has been busy over the Christmas period collecting and freezing the samples ready to go to the University of the Sunshine Coast for analysis. In the last flood however, one of the Rising Stage samples was taken by the very fast flowing current and is somewhere downstream. If anyone finds it please return it to Mooloolah Waterwatch.
Farmflo Green Army
Our second intake of Farmflo has commenced and will work on revegetating the landslips in Mooloolah that are causing such devastation to our river system. Last year Farmflo I revegetated five properties at the end of Ratcliffe Road and this year Farmflo II will continue maintenance including flood mitigation as well as new plantings.

We live in a locality that hosts a diverse plant population which in turn supports a wide-ranging fauna base, which keeps our environment sustainable. There are changes afoot with staffing; Amber is soon going to be off on maternity leave, with Dawn Worthington coming in to fill her shoes. So come in and say ‘Hooroo’ to Amber and introduce yourself to Dawn. Plant of the month - Syzygium moorei – Coolamon, Durobby, or Watermelon Tree This variety is a beautiful, rare rainforest tree from the Mt Warning region. It is a wonderful specimen tree with a dense canopy of large, opposite, glossy, dark green leaves. In the garden this tree grows 8 - 15 metres. The flowers are ‘cauliflorus’, which means they form on the trunk and branches and are a brilliant pink or red, flowering in summer, followed by large white, edible fruit, attracting birds and nectar feeding insects. This plant grows well in full sun to part shade. This tree is on special for the month of February at $2.00 per super tube. Please mention this column to get the discount. Sign On - A successful sign on was held last Friday for the Autumn Night Junior tennis, which will commence late February. Many thanks to all those who volunteered their time to make this a successful evening. If you would like your child to play there is still time to register before the competition kicks off. For further information please call Dawn 54941085 or Katya 54949464. Life Membership- We would like to congratulate Iris Tilbury on receiving Life Membership of the Landsborough Tennis Club. Iris has been a very supportive member for the past 20 years, with her main contribution being towards the Ladies Tuesday Social Tennis. She has given the club her time and energy tirelessly for which the club and the Social Ladies are very appreciative. A well deserved award. Iris was presented with a club membership badge and clock at a special luncheon recently.
The rain is still having an effect on our competitions with only 47 players braving the showers and humidity on Thursday. The course was a bit wet under foot, with very little run, but the greens were in great condition. We played a Stroke event in two Divisions with Sue Greentree taking out 1st Division with a nett score of 78 and Lesley Eggleston runner up on 79 nett. Division 2 winner was Barb McIntosh on 75 net, runner up Josie Thistlethwaite on 79 nett. NTPs were Sue on 2, Jill Hughes on 5, Andrea Campbell on 16 and Mavis Brimelow on 18. This week sees the beginning of the Pennant season with our weekend team playing Caboolture at Tewantin Noosa course. Let's hope the showers stay away for a while. Till next week, good golfing.
2 Bowl Triples Day. Held last Monday every month. Teams from other Bowls Club participate. Monday 23rd January was such a day. The winners were a team from Donnybrook Bowls Club. Second place went to Rob Farrell, Kerry Capern and Rae Farrell from GCBC. Third place went to a team from Mooloolah Valley Bowls Club. Rained the rest of the week! Wednesday 1st February saw the start of the Ladies Four’s Championships. Four teams entered and winners on the day were in one team, Di Garland, Dalia Wells, Monika Duff and Noelle Dean. The second winning team were, Margie Lehmann, Jenny Hobson, Marleen Bertram and Chris Freshwater. The second round will be played on 15th February. A social game was also played with four sets of pairs . Janice VanDer Werf and Kerry Capern defeated Graham Young and Anne Howard 22-14. Max Viterale and John McSwain defeated Dennis Hume and Rob Scullion 23-19. Thursday Open Pairs. AM Session winners were Ron Rix and Graham Nicholson 2 + 44. Runners up were Anne Howard and Tony Verdonck 20 in first game. PM Session winners were Brian Saunders and Graham Turton 2 + 42. Runners up were Clive Sinton and Ann White on 25 points. Super Challenge saw Division 7 Glasshouse Gliders play Windsor BC at GCBC. Gliders won one game. Division 10 Glasshouse Gliders played Woombye at Woombye. Gliders won two games.
