The Glass & Glazing Federation (GGF) has called for high-performance glazing to play a greater role in UK housing retrofit and fuel poverty policy, highlighting its potential to reduce energy demand, lower household bills and support British manufacturing. The message was delivered at the UK Glass & Glazing Collective Parliamentary Reception at the Palace of Westminster on 9 September, where representatives from across the glass and glazing sector came together with parliamentarians and stakeholders to discuss the industry's contribution to economic growth, energy efficiency, reindustrialisation and net zero. Speaking at the event, Chris Beedel, Head of Government Advocacy at the GGF and Chair of the UK Glass & Glazing Collective, said the sector has an important role to play
in addressing some of the major economic, environmental and social challenges facing the UK.

Central to the GGF's message was the need to consider the energy performance of the UK's building stock alongside investment in low-carbon heating technologies. Chris highlighted the impact of inefficient windows on heat loss and argued that improving the fabric of homes should form part of a coordinated approach to reducing energy consumption. He said: “Every high-performance modern glazing system represents lower energy demand, lower carbon emissions, greater comfort, and lower household bills.” The GGF is calling for high-efficiency glazing to be placed at the heart of housing retrofit and fuel poverty policy, with greater recognition of the contribution modern glazing can make to improving the performance of the UK's ageing building stock. Chris told attendees that greater investment in high-performance glazing could support households while creating opportunities throughout the UK glass and glazing supply chain. Continued on page 4...

52% INFLATION AND AI SAFE IN THE PRESIDENTS HANDS! As we move into the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, with thanks to John Keats for this famous opening line to his ‘Ode to Autumn’ written in 1819, it seems that industry activities start to ramp up with race days, conferences of various kinds, awards ceremonies, and preparations for the big one next year – yes, we’ll be into a FIT Show year. As we look to the future, and to our future specifically, we can’t help but wonder what is on the cards. How is the industry and the market developing? Is it simply dependent on economics and the will of governments? Can we have any control on developments? As I’m mulling over this conundrum and thinking about the threats that abound, from wars, megalomaniacs in charge of the largest economies, and our own politicians – virtually none of which have any commercial or business experience… 'let’s have lots of new mayors, that’ll sort all the problems out!', it is a relief to always find someone has a good idea. Into my Inbox pops a press release from the Glass and Glazing Federation that announces a partnership with REHAU giving businesses within the REHAU Authorised Partner network access to GGF Membership at a preferential rate. Now this makes a lot of sense, giving installers within the REHAU family access to technical expertise, training, compliance support, professional development and industry knowledge. They will already have access to products expertise, technical support, training and consumer facing marketing through REHAU but this partnership gives them the opportunity to benefit from knowledge of Building Regulations, construction product reform, competence and wider compliance requirements. It will also demonstrate a strong commitment to quality, professionalism and high industry standards, helping businesses demonstrate their credibility and deliver confidence to customers. This must help give the homeowner confidence in the installer they have chosen to provide their new windows and doors. It seems to make a lot of sense and will work both ways, with the GGF also benefitting from becoming better known to the general public and not just the industry. We often discuss careers in our industry and the debate around university degrees versus apprenticeships. The fenestration sector clearly offers strong career opportunities, and you certainly do not have to start at the top to progress. LinkedIn frequently highlights long-serving individuals, many of whom, like Danny Cavanagh, have built successful careers by working their way from the warehouse to the boardroom. Twenty-five years after starting as a warehouse operative, he now sits on the Board of Directors as Depot Operations Director at GAP. Danny is far from the only example. RegaLead’s Rob Bloomfield has

achieved 36 years of service, while Kevin Mander and Quang Dinh have both reached 25 years at Emplas, during which time they will have seen the company grow from a small fabricator into a business employing 700 people. Meanwhile, Mike Parczuk is celebrating 34 years at Sternfenster/ Starglaze. It is clear that our industry offers excellent careers for ambitious people, and congratulations go to all those celebrating long service. While we are all experiencing increasing costs I sometimes wonder whether the increases are necessary or simply profiteering? It came home to me when I was, yet again, strongarmed by the family to take a house in the Lake District to give the mixture of children and grandchildren, numbering 12, a holiday next April. The same house that we booked in April 2025 has increased in price by 52% - I think that may be a little more than the inflation rate. We all experienced profiteering post Covid but it seems to be continuing, and I very much doubt that anyone in our industry has increased their prices by this extortionate percentage over the past year! Perhaps we should ditch fenestration and get into the holiday homes business!

66 Time Out! 67 Find A Supplier
Having used Google for many years to answer queries of every kind it is amazing how easily one can slip into new habits. Artificial Intelligence is a perfect example. For an old dinosaur like me the whole AI issue is a bit frightening. How will it change how we live? Will it change jobs or even replace them? Will it run out of control and wipe out the world, as has been mentioned, although thank goodness Donald Trump has declared that ‘the only control or “guardrails” that AI needs is a strong and smart (high IQ!) President, and the USA has that, in spades’. So that’s alright! But back to where I was, I suddenly needed to put together a schedule of golf clubs in the UK showing what their policy was for allowing visitors to play at their club and I found myself asking Co-Pilot for the information. Within seconds I had a complete schedule of all golf clubs with visitor times, green fees, addresses….absolutely everything. Google has just become redundant! And now that the Donald has complete control of AI development I feel safe in facing the future for all mankind. Yikes!

The UK’s Leading Glass & Glazing Newspaper
Continued from page 1... He added: “High efficiency glazing must be put at the heart of housing retrofit and fuel poverty policy and treated with the same strategic importance as insulation and other low-carbon technologies. This will help support British jobs, support British-made products, and support British homes.”
BUILDING THE CASE FOR POLICY CHANGE The Parliamentary Reception also heard from Lord Foster, who has supported the sector's campaign for changes to the VAT treatment of energy-efficient glazing. Lord Foster highlighted that double and triple glazing have been required to meet energy-efficiency requirements since 2002, while remaining outside the list of energysaving materials benefiting from reduced VAT treatment. He called for continued collective engagement with policymakers to address the issue. He also raised concerns surrounding Extended Producer Responsibility arrangements for packaging, particularly the implications of a weight-based approach for glass. Lord Foster praised the creation of the UK Glass & Glazing Collective, which was founded in 2024 to bring organisations from across the sector together and strengthen engagement with government, opposition spokespeople and other stakeholders. The GGF believes this collaborative approach can help policymakers develop a greater understanding of the contribution glass and glazing makes across housing, construction, energy efficiency and UK manufacturing.
SUPPORTING BRITISH MANUFACTURING AND INVESTMENT The economic contribution of domestic glass manufacturing was also highlighted during the reception. Dean Butler, President of British Glass and UK Operations Development Director for Ardagh Group, told attendees that the UK glass manufacturing industry directly employs around 6,000 highly skilled people across 19 manufacturing sites, generates approximately £2.3 billion and contributes around £750 million in GVA. Dean outlined the importance of creating conditions that allow UK manufacturers to compete for international investment, including competitive energy costs, sufficient grid capacity, long-term policy certainty and support for the deployment of low-carbon technologies. Technologies including electric melting, hybrid furnaces and hydrogen-ready production systems are already available, he said, with the opportunity now centred on creating the conditions required to deploy them at scale within the UK. The event also saw Dean launch the Glass Charter, which calls for greater recognition and support for UK-manufactured glass.
4
The Charter is designed to champion domestic glass manufacturing and its contribution to skilled employment, UK supply chains, emissions reduction and future investment. Ministers, parliamentarians, peers and industry leaders were invited to demonstrate their support for its aims.
Glass Futures identified four priorities for partnership between industry and government: internationally competitive industrial energy, long-term investment certainty, a renewed skills pipeline and support to move innovation from research and demonstration into full-scale industrial deployment.
pressures facing the glass sector, including rising business costs, Extended Producer Responsibility and energy costs, while highlighting measures designed to support eligible glass businesses, including the British Industry Supercharger and the forthcoming British Industry Competitiveness Scheme.
CREATING THE CONDITIONS FOR FUTURE GROWTH
Together, the speeches demonstrated the breadth of the sector and the connection between glass and glazing, economic growth, energy efficiency, domestic manufacturing and future technologies.
The Minister also recognised the work of the GGF and British Glass in representing the sector's priorities to government and expressed his commitment to continued collaboration.
GOVERNMENT SIGNALS COMMITMENT TO COLLABORATION
Blair said: “I want all our foundation industries to thrive. So, it will be my pleasure to work with you openly and collaboratively on the priorities that matter to you.”
The reception also heard from Glass Futures, which highlighted the role glass plays across a wide range of strategically important sectors. Applications extend across energyefficient buildings, renewable energy, communications, healthcare, defence, aerospace, scientific research and advanced manufacturing.
Blair McDougall MP, Minister for Reindustrialisation, acknowledged the
For the GGF, the Parliamentary Reception provided an opportunity to take the priorities of the glass and glazing industry directly to policymakers and strengthen the case for greater recognition of highperformance glazing within national policy. Chris concluded: “Today, I ask those gathered here to see glass as the opportunity, see it as UK manufacturing, see it as skilled jobs, see it as warmer homes, see it as lower bills, see it as innovation, see it as investment, and above all else, see it as growth.” The GGF, working through the UK Glass & Glazing Collective, will continue engaging with government, Parliament and industry stakeholders to champion policies that support energy-efficient homes, British manufacturing, investment and long-term growth across the sector.

HOT SEAT Q&A: SIONED YATES
The UK’s Leading Glass & Glazing Newspaper
SIONED YATES DISCUSSES GROWTH AND THE POWER OF PARTNERSHIP Access Marketing is celebrating two years in business. Founded by Sioned Yates to provide practical, strategic marketing support for businesses across the fenestration, construction and building sectors, the business has worked with manufacturers, suppliers, trade organisations and industry events. Sioned reflects on the projects, lessons and industry changes that have shaped Access Marketing so far - and explains why collaboration is central to her approach.
How would you describe the last two years of Access Marketing? Exciting, challenging and probably a much bigger learning curve than I expected! I’d spent more than 30 years working in marketing and holding senior in-house roles, but running your own business is very different. Suddenly, you’re responsible for absolutely everything, as well as actually doing the work you love. I’ve loved the variety. I’ve worked with businesses of very different sizes and at very different stages, from large international brands to family-run businesses and industry organisations. I’m also really proud that so much of my work has come through recommendations and relationships I’ve built over many years in the industry.
What gap did you want the business to fill when you launched? I’d spent years sitting on the client side of the table, so I knew there was a gap between employing a senior marketing person full-time and outsourcing everything to an agency. There are some brilliant businesses in our industry that know they need marketing support but don’t necessarily need, or can’t justify, a full-time Marketing Director.
6
That’s where I wanted Access Marketing to sit. I can come into a business, understand where it’s trying to go, look at what is and isn’t working and help put some strategy and structure around the marketing. Because I’ve been the client, I understand the pressures too. I’m not interested in doing marketing activity just for the sake of doing it. There needs to be a reason for it and ultimately, it needs to help the business gain sales.
What types of brands and organisations have you worked with, and which projects have been the highlights so far? There have been a few projects I’m particularly proud of. Delivering the first VELUX Commercial UK&I press visit was definitely one. It was a first for the business, and being trusted to create and deliver it through Access Marketing felt like a real milestone. Another was developing VELUX Commercial’s first brand campaign since the VELUX acquisitions in 2019. Bringing the different businesses together under one story and helping establish what VELUX Commercial stood for was a fantastic project to work on. And then there’s Women in Fenestration. That’s different again because it isn’t just another project for me. It’s something I’ve become personally very invested in and I’m incredibly proud of what we’re building.
What have the last two years taught you about marketing in fenestration and construction? Probably that we still have a tendency to jump straight to tactics. “We need more social media.” “We need a new website.” “We need SEO.” “We need AI.”
Maybe you do. But why? What are you actually trying to achieve? What does the business need? The businesses that do marketing well are the ones that start there. Understand what the business is trying to achieve, understand the customers and then decide what marketing activity is actually going to help.
What are the biggest marketing opportunities and pitfalls? It’s a challenging market at the moment and when things get difficult, the natural reaction is often to cut marketing. I understand why businesses do it. But disappearing when customers are buying less isn’t necessarily going to put you in a stronger position when the market returns. I think the opportunity is to become much more focused. Understand which customers and markets offer the greatest potential. Know where your enquiries are actually coming from. Measure what’s working. Put your money and effort into the things that support what the business is trying to achieve and stop doing things simply because you’ve always done them. There’s also a huge opportunity around the knowledge we have in this industry. Fenestration and construction are full of people who really know their stuff, but we don’t always make enough of that expertise. AI is obviously changing things too and there are some really exciting opportunities there. But I’m also slightly wary of businesses feeling they have to buy every new AI product or service because they’re frightened of being left behind. Technology changes. The fundamentals don’t. Understand your customer, have something worthwhile to say, communicate it well and make sure people can find you.
What does Access Marketing offer that clients may not have in-house? Experience, probably, but also perspective and a huge amount
of passion for the job and for business. I’ve spent more than 30 years working in marketing, all of it in construction and building products. I’ve sat on senior management teams and been responsible for strategy, budgets, agencies, campaigns, product management and launches, websites, exhibitions and events.
Sioned Yates
There are some incredibly talented women working across the fenestration industry and I’d like to see more of them progressing through businesses, taking senior roles and having the confidence and opportunity to put themselves forward.
So, when I go into a business, I’m not just looking at the marketing. I’m looking at what the business is trying to achieve. I’m also independent enough to ask questions that perhaps don’t always get asked internally. But I don’t want to be the consultant who comes in, produces a lovely document and disappears again. I like getting involved. I like understanding the business and the people in it. The relationships that work best for me are the ones where I become part of the team.
How does your PR and social media partnership strengthen the offer? One thing I’ve always stood by is that I’m not an expert in every single area of marketing. Nobody is! I know what I’m good at and I also know when I need a specialist. My role is often to understand the business, work out what we’re trying to achieve, build the strategy and then bring the right people around that.
That would be a fantastic outcome. I also feel very strongly that men need to be part of the conversation. We’re not going to create positive change by excluding half of the industry. It has to be something we do together.
What does positive change look like in the industry? For me, it’s an industry where good people can progress because they’re good at what they do. Where young people look at fenestration and construction and see a genuine career. Where women don’t just enter the industry but progress through it into management, technical, operational and board-level positions.
Why has Women in Fenestration become such an important focus? I’ve worked in this industry for a long time and it’s given me a fantastic career. I suppose Women in Fenestration feels like an opportunity to give something back. But it’s also about creating something I wish I’d had access to earlier in my career. For me, it isn’t about creating a women’s “club”. It’s about connection, development, mentoring, visibility and opportunity.
I’d like to see the network make a real impact as it develops. For example, someone saying, “I went for the promotion because I got the confidence to go for it after attending a Women in Fenestration event.”
It’s also an industry where businesses invest in their people and where we’re better at bringing new talent into the sector. I’d love us to get better at talking about ourselves too. This industry has changed massively. There is so much innovation, technology and expertise within it and the products we manufacture and sell have a real impact on people’s homes, buildings, energy use and everyday lives. I’d like more people outside our industry to understand that.

CONSTRUCTION
The UK’s Leading Glass & Glazing Newspaper
WHY CONSTRUCTION MATTERS Construction plays a far bigger role in the UK economy, and in all our daily lives, than its share of headlines might suggest. Mike Rigby, Managing Director of MRA Research, looks at why the industry needs to make its voice heard more clearly, while also keeping some perspective on the challenges facing the UK economy. Construction accounts for over 6% of the UK economy. That doesn’t sound much, but it’s a lot bigger than other sectors with a far higher profile. Agriculture has not only a seat in Cabinet, but also two long running radio programmes, The Archers and Farming Today, to get its messages across. There is also a popular TV series, Clarkson’s Farm. Agriculture is also more engaged. When farmers get angry they get into their tractors and besiege Parliament to get their story into the headlines. Construction has made determined efforts in recent years to get its messages across but must do more to overcome a lack of awareness and understanding. Construction is vital to Britain’s prospects. It’s a key enabler for how we travel, live and work, a positive contributor to UK growth. Without enough homes in the right numbers in the right places, Britain gums up. People can’t move around the country to work, or when changing jobs. It’s harder for Enterprise to build businesses too. Reading media headlines, news reports, and opinion pieces you’d think the UK was irredeemably incompetent, a sad basket case. True, our systems are so clogged up with self-imposed obstacles that construction costs and time to build escalate to an extraordinary degree. We take forever to build anything. In many developed countries that we compare ourselves with, it takes far less time and far less cost to build. Government could do something about that if it really wants Britain to grow. Yet we should keep a sense of perspective and not talk our economy and markets down, when complaining about the state of Britain today. Growth is anaemic and we constantly fall short of expectations, but other developed countries face similar challenges. Some are doing less well and growing more slowly. In the G7 groups of companies, for instance, the US grew fastest in 2025
8
Mike Rigby
(+2.1%), with Canada a close second (+1.9). But the UK came third with +1.3%, comfortably ahead of Japan (+1.1), France (+0.8), Italy (+0.5), and Germany (+0.2%). You wouldn’t know that without digging behind the media or political knockabout. We are hyper-aware of our own challenges, but we don’t have to deal with the scale of collapse of Germany’s powerhouse auto industry, for example.
“We are hyper-aware of our own challenges, but we don’t have to deal with the scale of collapse of Germany’s powerhouse auto industry, for example.”
According to the Office for National Statistics, Services is the largest component of output, at 80%, but households account for just under 60% of national expenditure. How confident consumers are, and how confident they feel to spend matters hugely to the economy, and to the building materials supply chain. New Housing and RMI are the two largest construction sectors. That’s why consumer confidence matters so much to Construction and the country, and why talking our markets down is self-defeating.

MORE COLOURS. MORE CHOICE. MORE OPPORTUNITIES! Colour has moved on from just being an alternative to White, to becoming a genuine specification choice for today’s window and door market, as Selecta Systems Marketing Manager Mark Walker explains.
“Grained foils are designed to recreate the texture and appearance of timber, while smooth finishes provide a cleaner, more contemporary appearance inspired by aluminium.” COLOUR DOESN'T HAVE TO MEAN COMPROMISE
For many years, White was the default choice for PVCu windows and doors. Today, that standard requirement has been totally transformed and the market for coloured windows and doors is changing rapidly. Colour has become an increasingly important consideration for homeowners, architects and developers, creating new opportunities for fabricators and installers looking to offer greater choice and differentiate themselves in an increasingly competitive market.
The ADVANCE 70 Window and Door System combines colour flexibility with a five-chambered profile designed to deliver strong thermal performance and excellent U Values. With U Values as low as 0.8 W/(m²K) when combined with a 40mm TGU and 1.1 W/(m²K) with a 28mm DGU. For further peace-of-mind, enhanced security options include PAS 24 and Secured by Design.
The shift towards coloured PVCu profiles is part of a wider change in consumer expectations. Windows and doors are no longer viewed simply as functional components of a property; they are an important part of its overall appearance. Homeowners are looking for products that complement the architectural style of their property, from contemporary new-builds to traditional and heritage homes.
The choice of finish is also becoming increasingly important. Selecta's Colourfoil Collection incorporates both grained and smooth finishes. Grained foils are designed to recreate the texture and appearance of timber, while smooth finishes provide a cleaner, more contemporary appearance inspired by aluminium.
GREATER CHOICE CREATES GREATER OPPORTUNITY
For fabricators and installers, this means that offering an attractive and versatile colour range can be an important part of winning business.
FROM GREY TO A MUCH BROADER COLOUR PALETTE Grey has undoubtedly played a major role in the growth of coloured windows and doors, with shades such as Anthracite Grey becoming firmly established as a popular contemporary choice. However, the market is now becoming much more diverse. Selecta Systems' Colourfoil Collection reflects this evolution, offering 18 colour shades and woodgrain finishes across its ADVANCE 70 Window and Door System. The collection includes contemporary shades such as Anthracite Grey, Slate Grey, Agate Grey and Hazy Grey, alongside traditional colours including Chartwell Green and Cream and authentic woodgrained finishes such as Irish Oak and Mountain Oak. The introduction of newer shades also demonstrates how quickly preferences are evolving. Ulti-Matt Black, for
Mark Walker
example, provides a modern, smooth finish designed to replicate the appearance of aluminium, while Agate Grey offers a softer alternative to darker grey tones. Pebble Grey provides another subtle option and has already proved particularly popular when paired with ADVANCE 70 Flush Sash Windows. Selecta continuously reviews the market for the latest and up and coming trends in products and colour. Plans are already afoot for new colour shades to be added to the Colourfoil Collection. This growing palette gives fabricators the opportunity to move beyond the traditional ‘White or woodgrain’ choice and offer customers something much more individual. Pair this up with the opportunity to have any colour option from the Renolit colour swatch, the special colour range providing you with even greater scope and openings.
“Colour has become an increasingly important consideration for homeowners, architects and developers, creating new opportunities for fabricators and installers looking to offer greater choice.” 10
For installers, the ability to offer a comprehensive range of colours can help them respond to changing customer demands and provide a more personalised service. For fabricators, it provides another opportunity to add value, create differentiation and target projects where colour is an important part of the specification. Importantly, Selecta laminates its coloured profiles at its Birmingham headquarters using modern foiling technology, with all of our standard colours produced to stock. Our efficient operations enable us to offer a faster turnaround on special colour orders. These can be ready for delivery, typically within one to three weeks depending on the section and whether they are foiled on one or both sides. As colour continues to move from being an optional alternative to White towards becoming an expected part of the window and door buying decision, fabricators and installers who embrace that change can put themselves in a stronger position to meet the demands of today's market. The future of PVCu is certainly not just White, and with the ADVANCE 70 System and Colourfoil Collection, there is now a palette of possibilities for fabricators and installers to explore and grow their business.

The UK’s Leading Glass & Glazing Newspaper
THE KEY QUESTIONS EVERY CONSUMER SHOULD ASK A PROSPECTIVE INSTALLER As window companies compete for attention, Dave Mecham, Managing Director of FENSA, says asking the right questions can help consumers choose the right product and installer for them, amid a barrage of information and advice. For homeowners looking to replace their windows and doors, a dip into the internet will bring up thousands of companies, products and opinions. With a wealth of information available that can be contradictory and at times, overwhelming, FENSA’s aim is to guide consumers to make an informed decision, helping them to select the best product for them, and the best installer to fit it. Finding the right installer is a vital part of the process and asking the right questions is key to achieving this.
Is the installer FENSA registered? First and foremost, homeowners should establish whether the company they are considering is FENSA registered. Possessing specialist skill sets that general builders, handymen and DIY enthusiasts do not have, FENSA registered installers can install windows, doors and associated products competently, paying attention to the relevant technical considerations. Bay windows, for example, often take on a structural element within the houses they feature in, requiring experienced people with the right know-how to take them out and replace them successfully. By ensuring their chosen installer is FENSA registered, consumers can proceed with confidence that the installation team will be up to the job.
What products will be installed?
A reputable installer should be able to explain what they are recommending, why it is suitable and what benefits it offers.
Does the installer have the right insurance and guarantees? Before proceeding, consumers should check that the installer is a legitimate business with appropriate insurance cover. Make sure there is public liability provision with insurance-backed guarantees (IBGs) in place to protect you if the installer subsequently ceases trading. All FENSA installers offer IBGs for added peace of mind.
What does the contract cover? A written contract should clearly set out what is being supplied and installed, the price, payment terms and other responsibilities.
Consumers should take the time to read the agreement and make sure they understand what they are committing to, before work begins. At FESA, we would advise going through the contract with the installer to iron out any queries and ensure the contract is signed by the relevant parties.
Dave Mecham
If anything is unclear, consumers should ensure any questions are raised before installation begins.
How much is the deposit?
What will happen on installation day?
Deposits also warrant careful consideration and some caution.
A good installer should be able to explain the installation process in advance.
Paying a product deposit by credit card is wise, as this can provide Section 75 protection if any problems should arise.
Consumers should ask what preparation is required, covering everything from what furnishings you should cover up in the property, to parking arrangements. Homeowners need to know exactly what their responsibilities are and what they should expect while the installation work is taking place.
Has the property been properly surveyed? The survey is another critical stage of the process. Homeowners should make sure they are comfortable with the survey and check that the details correspond with the contract.
While these may sound like relatively minor details, establishing expectations in advance can make the installation run considerably smoother for all parties.
Does the installation meet Building Regulations? Finally, consumers should ask how the proposed installation will comply with relevant Building Regulations. Depending on the property and the installation, requirements can include safety glazing, means of escape from rooms in the event of a fire, or low door thresholds.
Round-up For homeowners, asking the right questions before work begins can provide greater confidence that the window and door products they choose will be installed to the highest standards. Competence, product suitability, insurance, guarantees, contractual protection, surveying and regulatory compliance all matter and while this may seem daunting, there are plenty of reputable companies out there that are up to the task.
Homeowners should ask exactly which windows, doors or other products are being proposed and do some independent research before making a decision.
Any professional company should be happy to guide consumers through the process comprehensively, and any resistance to this should be viewed by the consumer as a potential red flag.
Consumers should consider whether the products are appropriate for the property and meet the required performance and regulatory standards.

GLASS AND GLAZING SECTORS UNITE TO SUPPORT UK GOVERNMENT’S REINDUSTRIALISATION AMBITIONS The UK glass and glazing sectors have committed to working in partnership with Government to help turn its ambitions for reindustrialising Britain into investment, skilled jobs, stronger supply chains and sustainable economic growth. At a Parliamentary Reception hosted by Lord Foster of Bath at the House of Lords this week, the UK Glass & Glazing Collective brought together industry leaders, parliamentarians and policymakers to explore the contribution the sectors can make to the UK’s future growth and industrial renewal. Reflecting the importance of the glass and glazing sectors to the Government’s reindustrialisation agenda, Blair McDougall MP, Minister for Reindustrialisation, said in a statement: “The UK has shaped the world’s glass industry for centuries, from generations of skilled workers to breakthroughs like Pilkington’s float glass process which changed how glass is made everywhere. “I don’t underestimate the challenges that you face; the rising costs of doing business, new policy costs including extended producer responsibility and global uncertainty. My officials are working closely with you and with colleagues across government to understand these pressures and, more importantly, to consider what can be done.” The Minister also highlighted the Government's recent action on industrial energy costs. Eligible glass businesses already benefit from the British Industry Supercharger, with network charging compensation increasing from 60% to 90% from April, helping to reduce electricity bills for major glass producers and support their international competitiveness.
www.glassnews.co.uk | October 2026
From next April, the British Industrial Competitiveness Scheme is expected to cut electricity costs for eligible firms by around £35 to £45 per megawatt hour used, providing further support for the sector's growth and resilience. Justin Kelly, CEO of Glass Futures, emphasised the importance of a shared approach to reindustrialisation: “Reindustrialisation will not be delivered by Government alone, nor by industry acting alone. It will require a shared mission, sustained over many years. Our offer is to invest, innovate, decarbonise, train the next generation and strengthen British supply chains – helping ensure more of what Britain needs is invented, developed and made here.” Chris Beedel, representing the Glass & Glazing Federation, focused on the role the sectors can play in improving the performance of Britain’s homes and buildings: “The Glass & Glazing Federation and the UK Glass & Glazing Collective stand ready to work with Government, Parliament and partners across industry to turn that opportunity into reality.” Dean Butler, President of British Glass, highlighted the economic contribution of UK glass manufacturing, which operates 19 sites, directly employs around 6,000 highly skilled people and generates approximately £2.3 billion in turnover and £750 million in GVA: “We welcome the Prime Minister’s commitment to reindustrialisation and look forward to working with Government on this ambition. The UK must be the best place to invest in glass manufacturing.” The UK Glass & Glazing Collective brings together the British Glass Manufacturers’ Confederation, Glass & Glazing Federation, Glass Futures, Society of Glass Technology and Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers of London. The five member organisations jointly organised the Parliamentary

Reception, representing the breadth of the UK’s glass and glazing sectors. The Collective is seeking to work with Government on five practical priorities: enabling a competitive transition to net zero; levelling the playing field on energy and investment; reforming Packaging Extended Producer Responsibility (pEPR) to support glass packaging; driving demand for UK-manufactured glazing and insulation through highefficiency buildings and retrofit; and reforming recycling legislation to maximise glass recovery and strengthen the circular economy. The Collective will continue to engage with Government on these priorities as part of its commitment to supporting the UK’s wider reindustrialisation objectives. https://www.britglass.org.uk/UK-Glass-Glazing-Collective

POLYFRAME LAUNCHES ‘12 WEEKS OF REHAU’ CAMPAIGN TO HELP INSTALLERS UNLOCK NEW OPPORTUNITIES Polyframe has launched a new 12-week campaign designed to help installers make more of its REHAU range, identify new sales opportunities and win a greater share of projects. The trade fabricator’s ‘12 Weeks of REHAU’ campaign will run throughout the autumn, putting a different aspect of Polyframe’s REHAU offer in the spotlight each week – from colour, flush sash and sliding doors to commercial opportunities, technical support and next-generation window technology. Building on a relationship with REHAU spanning more than 30 years, the campaign aims to give Polyframe customers practical information they can use to broaden their offering and strengthen conversations with homeowners and commercial clients. Across the 12 weeks, Polyframe will highlight opportunities around REHAU’s extensive colour options, Rio flush sash windows and SLINOVA sliding patio doors, alongside the performance benefits that can help installers turn product specifications into compelling customer benefits.
The campaign will also encourage installers to look beyond individual window orders and consider the potential to supply more of each project. Polyframe manufactures a broad REHAU portfolio covering casement, flush sash and tilt & turn windows, residential and French doors, as well as SLINOVA sliding patio doors. Elaine Baird Group head of marketing for Polyframe said: “12 Weeks of REHAU is about showing customers just how much opportunity there is within the range. Whether that means adding more colour options, introducing flush sash or sliding products, supplying more of a complete property or looking at opportunities outside their traditional market, we want to give customers the products, information and support to help them grow. “It’s also about going beyond individual product features. Thermal efficiency, security, weather performance, acoustics and low maintenance all matter to the end customer, so we want to help installers translate those technical benefits into stronger sales conversations.” Commercial opportunities will form another important part of the campaign. Polyframe supports light commercial and larger-scale projects with specification
and technical assistance, performance information and project advice, including support from tender through to installation. A major focus will be REHAU ARTEVO, the advanced 80mm system manufactured by Polyframe using REHAU’s RAU-FIPRO X composite technology. Two weeks of the campaign will be dedicated to ARTEVO – initially exploring the system and its capabilities, before looking at the markets and projects where installers could use it to expand their pipeline.
“Whether they want to expand their product range, pursue larger commercial projects, explore ARTEVO or simply grow the REHAU business they’re already winning, Polyframe has the manufacturing capability and expertise to support them.” Polyframe will publish a new focus throughout each week of the 12 Weeks of REHAU campaign. For more information, visit Polyframe’s website. www.polyframe.co.uk.
Combining structural capability with slim sightlines, large glazing possibilities and strong thermal performance, ARTEVO is suitable for applications ranging from residential developments and high-performance homes to education, healthcare, offices and public-sector buildings. The campaign will conclude by looking towards future market requirements, including energy efficiency, sustainability and whole-life product considerations. ARTEVO profile cores can contain up to 75% recycled PVC, while its composite construction reduces reliance on conventional steel reinforcement. Elaine Baird added: “The campaign may run for 12 weeks, but the bigger objective is what happens afterwards. We want customers to come away with a better understanding of what’s available to them and where their next opportunities could be.

CR LAURENCE PROVIDES A PRACTICAL SOLUTION FOR EMERGENCY GLASS REPAIRS When glass is unexpectedly damaged, finding a safe and practical temporary solution can be a priority. CR Laurence’s Emergency Glass Repair Film provides a quick and effective way to help secure cracked or broken glazing until a permanent repair or replacement can be carried out. Designed for emergency applications, CRL Emergency Glass Repair Film can be applied directly over damaged glass to help hold broken fragments in place, providing a temporary safety barrier while maintaining visibility and allowing natural light to enter. This makes it a practical option where traditional boarding-up methods could restrict access, light or visibility. The self-adhesive film is straightforward to apply and can be cut to the required size, helping glaziers, maintenance teams, contractors and facilities managers respond quickly to unexpected glass damage. Whether caused by accidental impact, vandalism or other breakages, damaged glazing can create both safety concerns and disruption. Having CR Laurence’s Emergency Glass Repair Film readily available can provide a convenient temporary solution while arrangements are made for permanent repair or replacement. Suitable for a range of glazed applications, the film is particularly useful for businesses and building operators looking to minimise disruption and maintain the appearance and functionality of an area following glass damage. CRL Emergency Glass Repair Film is designed as a temporary repair solution and should not be considered a substitute for permanent glass replacement where required. RENOLIT AND SUSTAINABILITY
As a company, RENOLIT place an increasing emphasis on our environmental impact.
Firstly, we currently have ISO 5001 and ISO 14001 accreditations which help to reflect the commitment that RENOLIT have to environmental stewardship and ethical business practices. Further measures we are undertaking include lowering our resource consumption and increasing our usage of renewable power sources which has been underlined through our recent installation of solar carports and installation of solar panels across our warehouse roof. RENOLIT is also seeking to increase the amount of recycling that we undertake. As part of the recycling initiative, we have a policy of zero waste to landfill.
WHAT RENOLIT HAVE ALREADY ACHIEVED RENOLIT is undertaking a wide range of measures to ensure that the production of our films can be as sustainable as possible. This starts with the design stage, where we focus on product longevity and recyclability, and ensures that our products can be efficiently recycled, reducing waste and conserving resources. RENOLIT also prioritise the use of sustainable materials, including recycled and renewable raw materials. We work closely with our suppliers to ensure that our materials are sourced responsibly before they even arrive at our factory. This has resulted in us being able to offer our customers a range of polymer products with a high content of recycled materials. In addition, many of our products are 100% recyclable, helping to contribute to a circular economy. We have increased the level of flake rework within our products and have also targeted our product wastage This has been made possible through high levels of investment to granulate and pulverise our
18
Other future plans include; • Our Cramlington factory aiming to achieve energy savings of more than 10% by 2027 compared to 2020. • Working to reduce our carbon footprint by 5% each year • A RENOLIT Group target to ensure our packaging consists of 50% recycled materials or renewable raw materials
CONCLUSION offcuts which has allowed us to reuse this as rework within our products. We have achieved a 16.8% reduction in our energy consumption on site since 2020, and over the last 10 years we have reduce our carbon emissions by 47%. This has primarily been achieved through reducing energy consumption and improving efficiency on our machines. Our target for the end of 2045 will be net zero.
FREEFOAM PARTNERSHIP One partnership we are particularly proud of is our relationship with Freefoam Building Products Ltd. Currently, we supply a quantity of excess material to Freefoam who have innovated and refined their processes to be able to use our interior or exterior flake material in their fully recyclable rainwater systems. By August 2025, we had already surpassed our annual target quantity of flake supplied to Freefoam, demonstrating how circularity can be achieved through innovation and partnership.
RENOLIT are also part of the Circular Plastics Alliance (CPA) to help promote greater sustainability. This is a voluntary pledge which businesses can opt in to and helps to deliver on the circular economy for plastics and aims to substantially increase the use of recycled plastics into new products. Currently RENOLIT are using NEOVYN resin which is made with fossil fuels but is produced with green energy. NEOVYN offers a 37% lower carbon footprint than the European industry average for suspension PVC. We can also offer Bio-attributed PVC products in order to reduce our carbon footprint even further.
PLANS FOR THE FUTURE RENOLIT UK has also recently installed solar panels on the factory roof and on our brandnew carports which will be able to generate 10% of our power requirements.
Through our Sustainability strategy, we are working hard to reduce our environmental impact whilst also continuing to deliver the best quality products for our customers. If you require further information regarding our decorative films, please contact RENOLIT UK Ltd (renolit.uk@renolit.com) or call 01670 718222.

With more than 30 production sites and sales units worldwide and a turnover of 1.191 billion euros in 2025, the company, headquartered in Worms, is one of the world’s leading plastics processors. Around 5,000 employees are constantly and responsibly developing the expertise gained from 80 years of company history. In doing so, they are contributing to a sustainable world with innovative and resource-saving solutions. www.renolit.com
OTHER INITIATIVES Further to the partnership with Freefoam, we are taking part in a range of other initiatives such as Operation Clean Sweep. This is an international initiative designed to prevent plastic pellet, flake and powder loss from entering the environment. RENOLIT signed up to this initiative in 2020 to achieve zero pellet loss and ensure no polymers leave the cycle and lead to marine and environmental litter.

Air conditioning remains an expensive and uncommon solution to summer heatwaves in UK homes while it is also generally very difficult to retrofit within older and especially our heritage commercial buildings. There are, however, much more financially viable measures which can be quickly taken to help mitigate high-temperatures and stuffy indoor atmospheres as window renovation specialistAssociated Steel Window Services (ASWS) is experienced in providing for its customers. The multi-award-winning member of the Steel Window Association, ASWS has built up an expertise in repairing all types of fenestration including aluminium and timber frames and is regularly required to retrofit specialist glazing films as well as servicing different types of opening lights. And while many of the company’s major contracts are focused on Central London, ASWS works across the country on all types of buildings, both historic and contemporary. Managing Director, Laura Mercer comments: “Of key importance is making sure that windows operate as they should and can be opened fully to provide adequate ventilation, including at night. Generally, this is a matter of competent maintenance: easing frames, removing excess paint and, if necessary, adjusting or replacing catches and stays. “While we have sometimes been asked to install Brise Soleil for shading – such as on the ASOS building in Watford – a relatively quick and very effective intervention is installing solar film across glass, which can cut heat build-up by 50% while being 99% effective in blocking harmful UV radiation.” Also, as Laura confirms, films can be multipurpose “Fitting film which offers both anti-shatter protection and solar control is now in demand to address Part K concerns, especially in critical areas like staircases. And unlike traditional toughened glass, using film means a broken pane will remain in-situ rather than falling and risking impact injuries.” For more information on ASWS and the services on offer, please visit https://asws.co.uk/services/.

NELSON PLACE IS TOP OF THE CLASS AT LETTING LIGHT IN Nelson Place, one of Northern Ireland’s largest student accommodation developments, has utilised Brett Martin’s Glass Link rooflight system above one of the building’s atriums. The rooflight has introduced high levels of natural daylight, a key design requirement, that has played a fundamental role in enhancing student wellbeing, boosting concentration and supporting the project’s wider goal of creating healthy environments for learning and living. Winner of Commercial Development of the Year at the Belfast Telegraph Property Awards 2024 and recipient of a highly commended recognition in the Property Week Student Accommodation Awards in December 2025, the 12-storey Nelson Place showcases how thoughtful design and high-performance building solutions can transform educational environments. A key focus was student wellbeing with the building’s design prioritising flexibility, social connection and active use across the recreational
spaces. This is shown through the integration of communal lounges, study zones and Ulster University’s state-of-thearts sports centre. With its blend of red brick, metal cladding and glass, the building establishes a lively and visually striking presence along the street. Brett Martin’s 20 fixed module Glass Link rooflight system was selected by the architectural team at Fletcher Joseph after being recommended by the project’s contractor. The aim was to complement the building’s overall design, whilst introducing natural daylight above the atrium, which connects the communal area and sports centre. Sandy Deans, Associate Director at Fletcher Joseph, commented: “This was our first time working with Brett Martin products and we were highly impressed with both the finish and the overall success of the atrium, which has received
excellent feedback. The product’s performance, durability and adaptability allowed us to create naturally lit communal circulation spaces while preserving the architectural clarity of the central atrium.” Manufactured to specific requirements and easy to fit on both new build and refurbishment projects, Brett Martin’s Glass Link rooflight allows daylight to flood internal spaces below. Available in special glass options, including solar control, tinted, obscure and self-cleaning, the rooflight offers the ideal solution for commercial projects, including educational applications. Matthew Wilson, Senior Operations Manager of Student Roost Nelson Street, stated: “We are really impressed with the finish of the Brett Martin Glass Link installed in the Nelson Place complex. The rooflight not only fills our core spaces with natural daylight, which would otherwise be inaccessible to sunlight, but it has also enhanced the building’s architectural appeal and increased student wellbeing.” Nelson Place has achieved an EPC A rating and BREEAM Very Good certification. FENTRADE’S DOUBLE CELEBRATIONS WITH SUCCESSFUL OPEN DAY Independent specialist aluminium fabricator Fentrade Limited’s journey continues with a recent successful and well attended Open Day that welcomed industry colleagues and friends through their doors to view the new facilities. The day itself also celebrated the efforts of the management team with the presentation of the company’s ISO9001:2015 Quality Management System accreditation and marked the company’s eighth year trading! Fentrade’s journey from a vision to an established and respected fabricator to the trade has seen the company move from humble beginnings in rented premises to now occupying a large 10,500 square foot manufacturing facility with additional outside space which is owned within the group and provides the fabricator with a springboard to implement its’ ambitious growth strategy over the next five years. Chris Reeks, Fentrade’s director, was pleased to have the opportunity to showcase the new facility to the many visitors who attended, invited from across and outside of the industry. “It was great to share the day with so many of our colleagues and friends, allowing us to demonstrate how far we’ve come since 2018 and also outline our plans for the future.” Visitors were given guided tours of the new offices and factory, with fabrication continuing during the tours allowing the visitors to chat with the staff and see the whole manufacturing process in action. “It was great to share the day with so many of our colleagues and friends, allowing us to demonstrate how far we’ve come since 2018 and also outline our plans for the future.” the tour for many was viewing the operation of the largest investments Fentrade has made to date, the Elumatec SBZ145 5 axis machining and cutting centre. “The SBZ145 has already made a significant difference to our fabrication process, and it was great to have the ability to show this off during the Open Day”, said fellow director Brian Jones. “The machine represents a significant part of over half a million pounds worth of investment in Fentrade this year so far, and as we explained to visitors on the day it will be a major driver for improving and enhancing the quality and efficiency moving forward”. Visitors were able to meet and greet many of the internal sales and support staff as well as a number of Fentrade’s suppliers who had supported the event. Aluk, Jack Aluminium, Scheuco, Elumatec and Coastal were among the suppliers in attendance with many of their products being utilised in the building of Fentrade’s new showroom facility. “Having a dedicated space to demonstrate the versatility of our product range was important to us when we were laying out the plans for the new building” explained Chris. “We wanted to create an inviting dual-purpose space that would allow Fentrade to display our products to new and existing customers as well as our customers being able to use it as their showroom to invite homeowners along to view and try the products.” The entrance into the showroom has been created using a mix of Aluk and Jack Aluminium commercial products as well as an ID30 Telescopic internal door which garnered a lot of attention during the Open Day.
Further into the showroom a viewing wall has been created incorporating Aluk 58BW and 58BD Hi windows and doors which allows visitors to see into the factory and observe the manufacturing process underway. The day also marked an important milestone in Fentrade’s journey of constantly improving and evolving with the presentation of their ISO9001:2015 Quality Management System accreditation and certificate. The process had started just as the contracts were exchanged on the new premises and the management team worked tirelessly to write and implement the procedures whilst organising and co-ordinating the complete relocation of the business to the new premises. “I am extremely proud of our whole team,” commented Brian, “in managing these two major projects in tandem without interruption to production and our customers. It is testament to the dedication and experience of the team that we have in place at Fentrade.” The ISO9001:2015 is just one of number of planned accreditations and certifications that Fentrade will be undertaking for the betterment of its’ products and service and to improve the overall product quality and service for the customer base. Since the acquisition of Fentrade by Aluminium Vision in 2025 the company has introduced more resources into the infrastructure both in terms of people and plant as part of the strategy for the next five years. Additional staff in both the office and the factory, a new Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day running and more mechanisation in the factory are just some of the changes made so far, and Chris is confident about the road ahead. “The Open Day’s success was down to a lot of hard work and effort by the fantastic team behind the scenes, and has provided us with a great start to implementing our growth strategy and firmly establishing Fentrade as a specialist fabricator of choice for retail and commercial installing businesses”. REPAIR CARE SYSTEM ENABLING ASWS TO PROVIDE TOTAL WINDOW TREATMENT As a third generation steel window repair company and a long term member of the Steel Window Association, Associated Steel Window Services (ASWS) clearly knows its way around W20 and similar steel window systems, but in recent years the London based contractor has extended its expertise into other categories of fenestration – including renovating aluminium curtain walling – and now has a number of its carpenters and supervisors trained up in the patented Repair Care system; applicable to hardwood and softwood timber window frames. This new skillset has enabled ASWS to undertake full façade restoration works on recent landmark projects such as the Oxford Circus Quadrant building which was fully restored to house Ikea’s flagship London store, and 21-29 Glasshouse Street where ASWS is delivering on behalf of BAM Construction. Both contracts have not only allowed ASWS team members to show off their carpentry skills but also deploy the various Repair Care resin fillers to great effect. Significantly, the techniques involved were part of an agreed heritage works method statement for planning, allowing works to be undertaken off site and minimising the need to replace window frame sections which could be more than 40 years old. This objective demonstrates the highly sustainable carbon reduction benefits of repair over replacement. ASWS Site Manager Jonatan Benitez is amongst a growing number of operatives
who have been trained up to Level 2 at Repair Care’s Tamworth premises. He commented: “I found the training courses to reach Levels 1 and 2 really interesting and instructive, with a good balance between the theory and the hands-on practical work. You are taught about different timbers, the Repair Care products and how they interact with each other, as well as the seven steps to making an effective repair. “There’s a lot of difference between repairs, some might be small sections which you just need to fill with resin, or other bigger ones where you need to ‘splice in’ a piece of new timber. This is done by removing the damaged piece of old timber - often rotten and applying resin to bond the new section of timber to the existing clean material. The resin also has to be shaped to the profile of the existing casement, sill or frame where you are doing the repair.” Accurately balancing the proportions of the active components to the products is critical: making the manufacturer’s, patented Easy-Q High-Performance Dosing Gun a primary piece of the kit. In fact, its pressure release mechanism enables controlled release as well as cutting waste, helping with sustainability targets on major projects. Most repairs are completed using the Superfinish which is a very fine resin filler, superior to conventional wood fillers on the market. George Barker, the Training Manager for Repair Care, explained: “The business has always been focused on ensuring people are properly trained and understand the correct application procedures for using products
Pictured are two original timber windows on the top floor of 214 Oxford Street, carefully restored using Repair Care to retain the building’s original fabric
in the range, which is why we choose not to sell Repair Care through the DIY sheds. Instead, there are now four of us delivering training courses across the country, equipping 7-800 people a year to become accredited installers to Level 1 and Level 2. “In addition to the skills training we also offer a one-hour CPD seminar explaining the technology and the applications. A lot of the recipients are architects though they also sometimes take the courses so they can fully understand the nature of the repairs.” Referring to why Repair Care is gaining recognition on sensitive restoration projects like Oxford Circus and Glasshouse Street, George Barker continued: “The product is unique in the way it is fully flexible to accommodate the seasonal moisture related movement – the expansion and contraction of the timber. It will not split and break down like traditional two-pack polyester fillers. “Repair Care provides a durable solution which is why we have been involved with various National Trust and English Heritage projects, such as Big Ben, for more than
a decade and work on some of the most prestigious properties in the country, though the system’s use is always at the discretion of the local Conservation Officer.” Referring to the sustainability benefits of repair over replacement for timber windows to enable many more years of service, Kris Bennell, the Operations Director for ASWS added: “The technical literature on Repair Care presents some very impressive information, including graphs, comparing the carbon footprint for both scenarios – considering both softwood and hardwood frames. While excluding factors like glazing replacement or upgrades and waste disposal, there are impressive figures on carbon reduction revealing the overall contribution that quality repair can make to conservation goals and even BREEAM ratings. This is why we have been investing in our team’s knowledge and skills, so we can continue to progress the restoration market and make retrofit the best client option.” For more information on ASWS, please visit https://asws.co.uk/services/

GGF AND REHAU JOIN FORCES TO STRENGTHEN SUPPORT FOR AUTHORISED PARTNERS The Glass & Glazing Federation (GGF) has announced a new partnership with REHAU, giving businesses within the REHAU Authorised Partner network access to GGF Membership at a preferential rate. The partnership brings together two leading names within the glass and glazing industry to provide installers with an enhanced package of technical expertise, training, compliance support, professional development and industry knowledge. REHAU Authorised Partners are installation businesses that meet REHAU’s quality criteria and benefit from the systems company’s product expertise, technical support, training and consumer-facing marketing. Authorised Partners also receive visibility through the REHAU Dealer Locator, helping homeowners identify approved installers operating in their area. Through the new partnership, these businesses will now have the opportunity to complement that support by accessing GGF Membership on preferential terms.
Amy Hopton-Smith, Head of Commercial & Operations at the Glass & Glazing Federation, said: “We’re delighted to be working with REHAU to create an opportunity that brings genuine value to its Authorised Partner network. These businesses already share a commitment to quality and professionalism, which aligns closely with the standards and values we champion at the GGF. “By giving REHAU Authorised Partners preferential access to GGF Membership, we can connect more installers with the expertise, resources and representation available through the Federation and help them strengthen their businesses for the future.” GGF Membership provides businesses with access to a wide range of industry-specific support. This includes technical guidance and expert advice, training and professional development, information and resources to support compliance, networking opportunities and government advocacy on the issues affecting the glass and glazing sector.
The partnership comes at a time when installers continue to navigate developments across Building Regulations, construction product reform, competence and wider compliance requirements. Combining the resources available through the GGF with REHAU’s existing technical and product expertise will give Authorised Partners an enhanced support network to help them understand developments and prepare their businesses for change. Professional development will also form an important part of the combined offering. REHAU Authorised Partners already have access to REHAU training, CPD opportunities and product knowledge, while GGF Membership opens the door to further industry-specific training and development. Lauren Mawford GGF Director said: “Running a successful installation business requires expertise across so many areas. Product knowledge and installation quality are fundamental, alongside keeping up with regulations, developing your people and
understanding wider changes taking place across the industry. “Bringing the support available through REHAU and the GGF closer together gives Authorised Partners access to an even broader pool of knowledge and expertise. We want these businesses to feel supported as they develop their teams, strengthen their professional credentials and continue delivering high standards for their customers.” REHAU Authorised Partners interested in accessing GGF Membership at the preferential rate should contact the GGF membership team for further information: membership@ggf.org.uk.
KEYSTONE MARKET RESEARCH LAUNCHES KEYSTONE SIGNAL™: POWERFUL NEW ONLINE PLATFORM TURNS CONSUMER DATA INTO CLEAR DIRECTION Keystone Market Research has launched Keystone Signal™, a new online software platform designed to transform the company’s comprehensive fenestration consumer research from static reports into actionable intelligence - helping installers apply targeted end-customer data directly at the point of sale and throughout the supply chain for product and marketing development. Developed from Keystone Market Research’s extensive programme of consumer research, Keystone Signal™ brings together more than 22,000 consumer data points into one database, making detailed insight easier to access, explore and apply to real-world business decisions. The platform launches with two distinct applications: Keystone Signal™ Sales, an intuitive sales aid designed for installers and salespeople, and Keystone Signal™ Intelligence, a powerful data interrogation platform for product developers, manufacturers, suppliers and marketing teams. Keystone Signal™ Sales has been developed to help installers better understand homeowners and guide them through product and style choices during the sales conversation. Keystone's latest consumer research found that just 7% of homeowners said that, when window or door salespeople visited their home, they addressed what mattered most to them and recommended styles that suited their taste very well. In the same survey, 91% of homeowners said that if two installation companies offered similar products, they would choose
www.glassnews.co.uk | October 2026
the company that better demonstrated an understanding of their needs and style, and 60% said they would still choose that company if it was more expensive. For installers, this creates a significant opportunity. Keystone Signal™ Sales uses insight from thousands of homeowners to help guide the conversation - supporting installers as they work with customers to identify preferences, narrow down choices and arrive at a specification that reflects what matters to that individual homeowner. This is particularly relevant to one of the frustrations repeatedly highlighted in Keystone's installer research: homeowners often don't know exactly what they want, change their minds throughout the process and increasingly look to installers to support their decision-making. Rather than relying solely on instinct or presenting homeowners with an overwhelming range of choices, Keystone Signal™ Sales provides a simple, guided way to use consumer insight at the point of sale, supporting installers to build trust, increase sales and profitability. The second application, Keystone Signal™ Intelligence, takes Keystone's consumer research beyond the traditional report. Rather than providing customers with a static document to read through, the platform allows users to explore and tailor the data to their own business applications. Users can analyse consumer preferences across a range of demographics, including
age, gender, location, property type, property age, tenure and life stage. The data can then be broken down across product categories including windows, doors, glazing and extension roof styles, helping businesses understand the endcustomer, identify growing opportunities, gaps in the market and changing priorities, for more targeted product and marketing development. Charlotte Hawkes, Director at Keystone Market Research, said: "For data to be useful, it needs to be applied as easily as possible. Keystone Signal™ moves consumer data from static reports into a gamechanging service that can be used both at the point of sale and at the point of product and marketing development - and tailored specifically to each company's needs." "Early on in our research, I could see the potential for this data to be used by installers in the home. As we saw the statistics around homeowners not receiving the support they needed, it became even more apparent how much of an impact this could have if we could make the insight user-friendly and enable it to be tailored at the time of the conversation." "Our installer research reinforced that opportunity. Time and time again, installers told us that one of the frustrations in the industry today is that homeowners don't always know what they want, change their minds repeatedly and look to the installer to guide their decision-making. Keystone Signal™ Sales helps address this by leading the installer and homeowner through
the choices that thousands of similar homeowners have made, leading to a confident specification seamlessly." "At the same time, through our Intelligence model, we're putting all the data directly into users' hands. Instead of a static report to read through, users can tailor the data to their exact requirements." "I'm incredibly proud of this latest launch. Keystone Signal™ Sales is an intuitive sales aid that I believe can be a game-changer for installers - helping them demonstrate a genuine understanding of their customers' needs and style, build trust and ultimately increase profitability. And Keystone Signal™ Intelligence is an exciting step forward for our wider market data, allowing users to explore more than 22,000 consumer preference data points through a very simple process." “Together, the Keystone Signal™ platform creates a powerful new way for fenestration businesses to use consumer research, turning complex data into a clear direction for sales, product and marketing decisions.” For more information about Keystone Signal™, or to book a demonstration, visit www.keystonemr.co.uk or email hello@keystonemr.co.uk.

DHF LAUNCHES NEW SMART-SCANNABLE CSCS CARDS TO STRENGTHEN COMPETENCE CHECKS ACROSS THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) has launched a new generation of smartscannable CSCS cards for professionals working across the door, gate and loadingbay industries, helping construction sites quickly and easily verify the competence, qualifications and training of operatives. The new physical cards feature a smart scannable chip which authorised site personnel, including site managers, supervisors, security teams and induction teams, can scan using the CSCS Smart Check app. This provides access to verified, up-to-date information held securely on the cardholder’s record, including qualifications, completed DHF training, occupational endorsements and expiry information. Rather than storing information directly on the card itself, the smart scannable card links to a secure database which means that records can be updated as operatives complete further training, achieve qualifications or gain additional endorsements, providing a more accurate and current picture of their competence.DHF will manage the processing and administration of card applications, continuing its commitment to supporting high standards of competence and safety across the industries it represents. “Competence is at the heart of everything we do, and these new smart-scannable CSCS cards provide a simple and reliable way for sites to confirm that operatives have
ENDURANCE® STRENGTHENS INSTALLER PARTNER SUPPORT WITH DEDICATED CONTENT CREATION SERVICE Endurance® Doors has reinforced its commitment to helping Installer Partners win more business with the launch of a dedicated Content Creation Service, led by newly appointed Content Photographer & Videographer, Jordan Buffey. The new service is available exclusively to Endurance® Installer Partners and represents a fresh approach to manufacturer support - going beyond the provision of shared marketing assets that is typical of the sector to provide bespoke and professionally produced content centred around installers’ own projects, customers and businesses. Jordan will travel across the UK, visiting Endurance® Installer Partners to capture high-quality imagery and video of their completed Endurance® installations. The resulting content will enable installers to showcase their workmanship across their own websites, social media, showroom displays and wider marketing activity. Commenting about the new Content Creation Service, Scott Foster, Group Marketing Director at Endurance® Doors, said: “Our Installer Partners are at the heart of everything we do, and we’re continually looking at new ways to help them grow their businesses. “While many manufacturers provide product imagery and marketing collateral that all of their customers can access, we wanted to go a step further. Our new service offers Endurance® Installer Partners the chance to get completely bespoke, professionally produced content that they can use across a multitude of channels to showcase their expertise. Jordan’s role is all about shining a spotlight on the fantastic work that our Installer Partners do every day and giving them content that will genuinely add value to their businesses. “Every installation has a story behind it, whether that’s an exceptional property transformation, a delighted homeowner or an installer who has gone that extra mile. By capturing those stories professionally and turning them into valuable content, we’re helping our partners demonstrate the quality of their work, strengthen their online presence and ultimately generate more enquiries. “It’s another example of how we’re investing in services that support our Installer Partners beyond simply supplying products.”
Rather than simply focusing on the finished door, Jordan’s content will tell the complete story behind each installation. From the craftsmanship and attention to detail demonstrated by the installer, to the customer’s experience and the story behind the transformation, each piece of content will highlight the people and expertise behind the finished result. Selected projects will also benefit from additional exposure through Endurance®’s own marketing activity. This includes case studies, project features, social media promotion and opportunities to be recognised through initiatives such as Installation of the Month. The launch of the Content Creation Service forms part of Endurance®’s ongoing investment into its Installer Partner programme, providing partners with practical marketing support designed to help them differentiate their businesses, build stronger customer engagement and maximise every opportunity to build their business. metal and timber doors, as well as loading-bay equipment. Existing cardholders will receive the new smart-scannable card when they renew their current card.
“The construction industry is continually evolving, and people’s skills and knowledge develop throughout their careers.Having access to an up-to-date digital record means employers and site teams can see a more complete picture of an individual’s competence, rather than solely relying only on information printed on a card. This is another important step in helping to improve safety, traceability and professional standards across the door, gate and loading-bay sectors.”
“The introduction of smart-scannable cards provides site teams with a faster and more reliable way to confirm that operatives have the appropriate skills, qualifications and training for their role,” concludes Patricia.
The new cards build on DHF’s existing CSCS Partner Card Scheme, which was established in collaboration with the Automatic Door Suppliers Association (ADSA) in 2019.The scheme supports professionals working across a wide range of occupations, including industrial doors and shutters, domestic garage doors, automated gates and traffic barriers,

As homeowners increasingly research installers online before making purchasing decisions, professionally produced photography of installers’ own work, coupled with authentic customer testimonials have become powerful marketing tools. Yet the resources needed to create such content often make this out of the grasp of many installers – until now. The service provides Installer Partners with access to premium-quality content without the time, cost and complexity of sourcing professional photographers or videographers independently, allowing them to enhance their marketing with minimal disruption to their busy day-to-day operations and at zero cost.
“By enabling records to be updated as further learning and development takes place, the new system recognises that competence is built over time and supports continuous improvement across the sector.Through this latest development, DHF continues to raise standards across the industries it represents, helping employers, contractors and site teams improve safety, confidence and accountability on construction sites.” For further information about DHF CSCS cards, applications and the scheme, visit the DHF website, https://www.dhfonline.org.uk/cscs-card.htm

THE RISE OF HERITAGE ALUMINIUM Scroll through Instagram, visit any interiors store, or browse through the pages of a home inspiration publication, and one thing becomes clear: homeowners have fallen back in love with character. From panelled walls to moderncountry kitchens, traditional hardware and heritage-inspired colour palettes, it’s clear that classic design influences are enjoying a major resurgence. Bringing warmth along with a feeling of timelessness, heritage-inspired interiors combine classic design elements with modern performance to create homes that offer both personality and practicality. Rather than embracing stark minimalism, homeowners are creating spaces that feel established, personal and lived in. Layered interiors with a mix of warm colours, textures and finishes allow those with period homes to embrace the true character of their property, and those living in newer properties to inject personality and create a homely feel from a blank canvas. While the trend for period aesthetics is undeniably strong, homeowners are not willing to compromise on comfort, security or energy efficiency. As a result, products that successfully combine heritage styling with modern engineering continue to grow in popularity. Heritage aluminium doors are the perfect example of this. Just as important from an aesthetic point of view as the panelling and other features, doors lend their aesthetic to the interior and exterior of a property, and so the impact they can have on the overall tone of a home is undeniable.
entrances, open-plan living dividers, or connecting indoor and outdoor spaces. Buying decisions for products of this nature are typically made long before a homeowner speaks to an installer, with inspiration often beginning online through social media, interior magazines and home improvement websites. Recognising this, leading manufacturer of heritage aluminium doors, Endurance® Aluminium, has invested heavily in helping its Installer Partners to not only supply premium products, but also market them more effectively. The company has introduced a comprehensive suite of professionally designed marketing resources to help Installer Partners showcase its heritage aluminium range and generate homeowner demand. These include high-quality lifestyle photography that reflects today’s design trends, allowing homeowners to visualise products within beautifully styled living spaces. The images are available for Endurance® Partners to quickly download and use across their social media and other marketing resources. Installer Partners also have access to an interactive product configurator, making it easier for homeowners to explore design options before enquiring. This hardworking lead generation tool can be simply integrated into a Partner’s retail website and, like the other items in the marketing package, is available at no cost. Working alongside the imagery and configurator are a range of social media assets that provide installers with ready-to-use content to help maintain a consistent and polished online presence, while dedicated
landing pages further support lead generation. Together, these resources enable Installer Partners to present a premium brand experience that reflects the quality of the products they install. Commenting on the newly introduced suite of marketing assets to support sales of their heritage aluminium doors, Endurance® Group Marketing Director, Scott Foster, said: “Here at Endurance®, we are committed to helping our Installer Partners not only install premium products, but also market and sell them more effectively. We’re seeing an increasing demand for heritage aluminium doors and interestingly, this heritage styling appeals to both traditional and contemporary homes – making it a huge opportunity for our customers. “The suite of marketing assets that we have invested in has been designed not only to generate homeowner demand, but to inspire people about how these products are the finishing touch to their homes. Photo shoots and the creation of digital assets are timeconsuming and costly, so we have done the hard work for our Installer Partners. They can now benefit from professionally designed sales and marketing tools that are befitting of the premium products they are selling.” The heritage trend is clearly here to stay for the foreseeable future. For installers, understanding that trend and the opportunities it presents is vital – as is partnering with a supplier that can not only supply premium products, but also the premium marketing support necessary to turn homeowner interest into genuine, high-value sales opportunities. Featuring slim dark frames with transoms to create a distinctive geometric grid pattern, this style of door provides the ultimate in heritage styling, coupled with the best of modern technology. STEVENSWOOD STRENGTHENS ALUMINIUM OFFERING WITH MAJOR RANGE EXPANSION Stevenswood has significantly expanded its aluminium offering with the addition of Aluna, Korniche and Jack Aluminium to its portfolio, giving installers access to its broadest-ever range of aluminium products.
To mark the expansion, Stevenswood has launched Aluminium Season, which runs from 1 September to 30 November 2026.
The new additions join established Stevenswood aluminium partners Smart and Atlas, extending the trade supplier’s offer across windows, entrance doors, bifolds, sliding doors, roof lanterns, rooflights and commercial systems.
Stevenswood has also trained its teams across the new product ranges, adding specialist product knowledge to its existing trade counter support. Customers continue to benefit from services including free local delivery, free skip use, free fixings and packers, and free marketing materials.
The expansion means installers can now source products for a wider variety of residential and light commercial projects through Stevenswood, reducing the need to work with multiple suppliers.
Under the campaign’s Build More With Aluminium theme, existing customers can earn rewards by purchasing across qualifying aluminium product categories. The campaign is designed to encourage installers to explore the breadth of the expanded range and consider how aluminium could help them quote for more of each project and take advantage of new opportunities.
Elaine Baird: “Stevenswood is well known as a uPVC window and door supplier, and that remains a hugely important part of our business. Growing our aluminium range complements that strength. “Whether a customer needs uPVC, aluminium, composite products or roofing solutions, our aim is to make it as straightforward as possible for them to get what they need and get on with the job.” Aluminium Season runs across Stevenswood from 1 September until 30 November 2026. Customers can speak to their local Stevenswood trade counter to find out more about the expanded aluminium range and campaign.
Alongside its existing Smart Aluminium range of windows, doors, bifolds, sliders, entrance doors and Heritage systems, Stevenswood has introduced the Aluna collection of aluminium windows and doors. Its roofing portfolio has also grown, with Korniche roof lanterns and flat rooflights joining the existing Atlas range of lanterns, flat rooflights and conservatory roof solutions. Meanwhile, the introduction of Jack Aluminium takes Stevenswood further into the light commercial market, adding commercial entrance doors, shopfront systems and internal glazed screens and doors to its offering. Elaine Baird – Group Head of Marketing at Stevenswood said: “Aluminium has been an important part of our range for many years, but this expansion takes our offer to another level. “By bringing Aluna, Korniche and Jack Aluminium into the portfolio alongside established brands such as Smart and Atlas, we can support our customers across a much wider variety of projects. “For installers, that means more choice and the opportunity to source more of what they need from one supplier, backed by the local service and support they already receive from Stevenswood. “We’ve also invested in product training across our teams, so this isn’t simply about adding more products. We want our customers to have the knowledge and support they need when they’re quoting, ordering and growing the aluminium side of their businesses.”

TOMMY TRINDER’S NEW LEADING MAN
Phil Wardle steps up as CEO as founder Chris Brunsdon steps back from day-to-day leadership.
Tommy Trinder has appointed Phil Wardle as Chief Executive Officer, marking a new chapter for the window and door software business. Phil joined Tommy Trinder in 2024 as Business Development Manager and US Market Lead. Since then, he has played a central role in launching the platform into America, winning early customers and helping adapt Tommy's products, terminology and sales approach for the US market. Before joining Tommy, Phil was Sales Director at St Edmunds Windows & Doors. His combination of hands-on industry experience, technology know-how and commercial drive made him the natural choice to lead the company through its next stage. “Tommy has grown from an idea shaped by the everyday challenges of selling windows and doors into a platform serving businesses across the UK,” says founder Chris Brunsdon. "The next chapter needs

fresh energy, strong commercial leadership and someone who understands both our customers and the extraordinary opportunities opening up through AI. "Phil has all of that. He knows how windows and doors are sold, he knows our technology, and he has already demonstrated the judgement, pace and determination needed to take Tommy forward." INSIGHT DATA CELEBRATES 20 YEARS OF TURNING MARKET INTELLIGENCE INTO GROWTH Insight Data is celebrating its 20th anniversary, marking two decades of helping businesses across the fenestration, construction and building products sectors make betterinformed decisions about sales and marketing. Founded by Andrew Scott in 2006, Insight Data was created after he experienced first-hand the problems caused by poorquality, outdated marketing data. At the time, businesses often relied on static lists, spreadsheets and industry contacts to identify potential customers, with little reliable information available to help them target the right prospects. Insight Data set out to change that by providing accurate, regularly updated market intelligence. The business subsequently built a dedicated research operation and developed technology that
gave customers access to live data rather than relying on outdated lists. Salestracker, first launched in 2008, was central to that development. Now, almost two decades later, a new generation of Salestracker is being introduced as a growth platform, bringing together market intelligence, sales management and marketing functionality to help businesses identify opportunities, manage prospects and turn insight into commercial results. The company is also marking its 20th anniversary with EDGE by Insight, a dedicated business growth event taking place on September 17 in Bromsgrove, Birmingham. An event designed to bring together industry professionals to explore practical approaches to growth, marketing, technology and commercial decisionmaking.
Long standing members of the Insight Data team with a combined 100 years’ experience
Andrew Scott, founder and CEO, said: “When I started Insight Data, the aim was straightforward: give businesses better information so they could make better decisions. Twenty years later, the technology has changed enormously, but that fundamental need has not.
“Our focus now is on helping businesses understand their markets more clearly, identify genuine opportunities and use that intelligence to drive sustainable growth. That is what EDGE and the next generation of Salestracker are all about.”
“Our focus now is on helping businesses understand their markets more clearly, identify genuine opportunities and use that intelligence to drive sustainable growth. That is what EDGE and the next generation of Salestracker are all about.” Two decades on, Insight Data is still focused on what comes next. With EDGE and the new Salestracker growth platform, it is helping businesses turn better intelligence into better decisions, stronger opportunities and growth for the next 20 years. FACT OVER FICTION FOR SUCCESS Rhonda Ridge, Managing Director of Ab Initio and creator of AdminBase, discusses the importance of fact over assumption when it comes to supplier relationships and explains why the company is investing in research to open up the conversation industry wide. We all make assumptions in all aspects of our lives, but in business it can be particularly damaging. After all, assumptions are akin to guessing. And yet suppliers make assumptions about what installers want and expect from them every day. Installers make assumptions too about what their suppliers need from them and what their suppliers can do, and everyone makes assumptions about what is causing frustrations and inefficiencies in the supply chain. But assumptions, or guesses, are not facts.
USING FACTS TO IMPROVE THE WAY WE WORK This is the first detailed installer survey to have been carried out for more than two decades and delves deep into the experiences, thoughts and opinions of this front line sector of the industry. In its entirety the research will span six published white papers designed to give installers, suppliers, manufacturers, and service providers a clear, evidence-based understanding of, and insight into, the market. We wanted to share the findings industry-wide because the real value of research like this isn’t just knowing the answers but using the knowledge to improve the way we work. And the more of us that do that, the better our industry will be.
SHIFTING PRIORITIES AdminBase has had a close working relationship with installation companies for more than two decades, and because our
CRM aims to improve efficiencies across the entire business, we probably have a better overview than most. We have seen first-hand how their working environment has changed over time, especially more recently with rising costs, changing regulations, administration, technology, and increasing customer expectations for quality, service and communication, all placing new demands on installers. Despite these significant shifts, there has been no evidence-based assessment of the impact on installation businesses and how these changes are affecting priorities today. We wanted this study to be completely independent, so installation businesses feel free to share their experiences honestly, which is why we commissioned Keystone Market Research to carry out the survey and produce a series of insightful reports. Our aim is to help supplier relationships become even more efficient with more targeted services that benefit both the supplier and the installation businesses they serve.
Rhonda Ridge
THE POWER OF INFORMED DECISIONS Gathering facts instead of using guesswork or outdated assumptions is a great starting point for improvement. Knowledge gives us the power to make better decisions that we know are on target for our customers. And sharing this knowledge industry wide helps to build a better understanding between installation businesses and suppliers and offers everyone the opportunity to discuss the findings and consider how we can collectively create a more efficient, productive, and successful industry for everyone.
The better we can all understand each other, the more equipped we can be to make improvements, boost efficiencies and ultimately do a better job.
KNOWLEDGE IS POWER It can be difficult to start the process of building this knowledge bank because first of all life is busy! And secondly, when companies have worked together for years, that relationship becomes the status quo and might even feel OK. A lot of supply relationships last a long time, but that doesn’t necessarily mean everyone is delighted with how the relationship works, and if they are, do we honestly understand the nuances of why? We might think customers are sticking with us for one reason, when in fact it’s something else entirely. It is always helpful to challenge long-held beliefs and do our best to better understand the other side of the relationship. In a bid to do exactly that, we commissioned Keystone Market Research to conduct an independent, major new research project – the UK Installer Insights Report – which will be free to download by anyone in the industry.

FGS REPRESENTS MULTIPLE MACHINE BRANDS AT GLASSTEC Flat Glass Solutions will be representing a range of leading international brands across the glass processing sector at this year’s Glasstec in Dusseldorf. With equipment and solutions spanning multiple facets of glass production, FGS can offer visitors the right technology for their specific requirements, drawing on its in-depth knowledge of both machinery and manufacturing processes. By bringing several international solutions together, FGS offers a valuable opportunity for companies to explore the options available and make the most of time at the show. Managing director David Cahill will attend the Düsseldorf exhibition from 20–23 October, representing eight of FGS’s international machinery partners: Dieffe, Elephant, Huaray, Tenon, Tesir Makine, Viprotron, Yinrui and Yuntong. David is inviting glass and glazing companies attending the event to arrange a one-toone meeting - whether they have a clearly defined machinery requirement or simply know there is a gap, weakness or untapped opportunity within their operation. David will then work with visitors to explore which solution may best meet their requirements, providing practical insight to help shape future investment decisions. Across its international partner network, FGS provides solutions covering virtually every stage of the glass-processing cycle: from loading, handling and cutting through to CNC processing, toughening, washing, insulated glass production, sealing and automated quality inspection. This breadth of expertise enables David to approach each conversation from the perspective of the processor and its complete operation - not from the starting point of selling a particular machine.

“My job is to help cut through that noise. The right solution might be a complete new line, but it could equally be a targeted upgrade, a better handling system, an additional inspection stage or a piece of automation that removes one persistent production problem. increasing capacity or creating a more efficient flow through the factory.” As one of the world’s largest glass industry exhibitions, glasstec offers visitors access to an enormous range of machinery and technology. However, the scale of the event can also make it difficult to determine which developments are genuinely relevant to an individual business. By arranging a meeting with David in advance, visitors can discuss their priorities, examine the options available across FGS’s partner network and, where appropriate, be introduced directly to the relevant manufacturers and technical specialists at the show. “It is very easy to spend several days looking at impressive machinery and still return home without a clear answer,” added David.
David Cahill aka Oz, managing director, Flat Glass Solutions
“Some of the most valuable conversations begin with someone saying, ‘We know something isn’t working as well as it should, but we’re not sure what the answer is,’” said David. “That might mean a bottleneck is restricting output, too much skilled labour is being absorbed by a repetitive task, quality problems are being identified too late or existing machinery is no longer keeping pace with the direction of the business. “You don’t need to arrive at glasstec with a finished specification or a shopping list. Tell me where the frustration is, what you are trying to achieve or where you believe there may be a gap, and we can start from there.” FGS has built its machinery portfolio by identifying proven technologies and technical advances from manufacturers across Europe and Asia, then making that expertise accessible to the UK glass industry.
Its partner brands include innovations in smart factories, intelligent glass cutting and loading, automated IGU production, vertical CNC processing, tempering, laser technology, vacuum lifting and handling, and sophisticated scanner systems capable of detecting defects at multiple stages of production. David continued: “The international market is developing rapidly, and some of the most interesting advances are coming from manufacturers that UK processors may not yet know particularly well. “Our role is to understand those technologies, assess where they can add genuine operational value and connect processors with the right expertise. Innovation is only useful when it solves a real problem - whether that is improving safety, raising quality, reducing waste,
“My job is to help cut through that noise. The right solution might be a complete new line, but it could equally be a targeted upgrade, a better handling system, an additional inspection stage or a piece of automation that removes one persistent production problem. “Sometimes the first step is simply sitting down with somebody who understands the complete processing cycle and asking: ‘Where do we go from here?’ That is exactly the conversation I will be at glasstec to have.” Glass processors interested in meeting David are encouraged to contact him before the exhibition. Providing a brief outline of the issue, requirement or future objective in advance will enable him to arrange a focused meeting and, where useful, coordinate visits to the most relevant brands and technical teams. FAST-GROWING COEN GLAZING SYSTEMS PARTNERS WITH EMMEGI (UK) Fast-growing Galway-based fabricator Coen Glazing Systems has strengthened its partnership with Emmegi (UK), adding both a 4-axis Comet X6HP CNC and a Precision RS twin head saw to the Phantomatic M3 CNC it purchased in 2024. The company’s 30,000 sq ft factory in Ballinsloe, Galway is rapidly becoming something of a showcase for Emmegi’s range of quality, precision machinery, with a solution crimper also completing the line up. Coen Glazing is a real success story. Founded seven years ago by brothers Niall and Darren Coen initially as a domestic and commercial installer, it has enjoyed
unparalleled levels of success since switching to commercial fabrication two years ago. It has seen turnover treble during that time, and is rapidly building a reputation as a ‘go to’ supplier of aluminium windows, doors, curtain walling and associated louvres, briese soleil, cills and flashings for schools, student accommodation, build to rent apartments, hospitals and hotels. It was the award of a large uniform curtain walling contract that prompted the Coen Glazing team to invest in their own fabrication set up. They wanted to be more adaptable and responsive to customers and have more control over quality and efficiency When they contacted the team at Emmegi (UK) to discuss sourcing a machining centre, Emmegi already had the ideal Phantomatic M3 CNC in stock, which they were able to deliver and install within two weeks. Coen Glazing were impressed from the outset with that level of service and efficiency; and has continued to be impressed with Emmegi ever since.
“Unsurprisingly, Emmegi were the only real choice when we needed to invest in more machinery this year to keep pace with our growth, and we were grateful for Jim’s expert advice in choosing the combination of Comet X6HP and Precision RS saw. These two highly advanced machines are giving us a huge step up in volume and efficiency and mean we can now take on virtually any type and scale of project. “We’re forecasting 50% growth again in 2026 and we have absolute confidence that Emmegi will support us in that.” Jim O’Connell added: “I’ve worked closely with Coen Glazing over the last two years and really understand the strengths and ambitions of the business. I recommended the Comet X6 HP 4-axis CNC because it can do exactly what they need in terms of increasing volumes and optimising efficiency. It has a pendular
mode which allows profile to be machined in two independent work areas and two supplementary axes to position the vices and reference stops. That means they can potentially work on up to four separate pieces at the same time, maximising their throughput. “Similarly, the Precision RS is a high speed, high capacity touch screen controlled twin head saw with a 600mm blade and radial cutting functionality. It is the ideal partner for both the X6 and the M3 and represents a real step up in volume and precision. “We delivered and installed both machines, as well as the accompanying Solution crimper, on time, and our team are available to provide any amount of training and support that Coen Glazing might need.” More info at: https://www.emmegi.com/ en/from-a-to-z and https://coenglazing.ie/
Niall Coen commented: “Choosing Emmegi as our machinery partner has turned out to be a great decision. The customer service is excellent. Jim O’Connell, the Area Sales Manager for Ireland is always available to answer the phone and resolve any issues that might arise and we are never waiting more than one or two days if we need a visit from the service team. The head office team are equally helpful, and all the paperwork and admin associated with buying and servicing is seamless.

CASE STUDY
The UK’s Leading Glass & Glazing Newspaper
CPSLIFT.COM SUPPORTS PENGUIN HABITAT PROJECT AT YORKSHIRE WILDLIFE PARK Central Platform Services Ltd (CPSLift.com) is pleased to announce it has supported a project at Yorkshire Wildlife Park with the installation of 12 large glass viewing panels for the park’s new African penguin habitat.
This £1.2m project aims to recreate the natural coastal environment of Boulders Beach in South Africa. The project creates a 552,000-litre pool with rock work, pebbled beaches and nesting areas. Underwater viewing is available thanks to 12 glass panels along a 33m viewing area.
TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS The use of large glass on this project required careful planning, careful movement and capable equipment. The SLX 2000 offered the necessary lifting capacity to handle the 630kg glass panels. It also offered the necessary reach and
accurate controls for positioning the glass. It’s narrow chassis, power steering and remote control make the SLX 2000 suited to areas with restricted access.
OPERATIONAL APPROACH This project was delivered as an operated hire service, with company Director John
The company supplied a Smartlift SLX 2000 glazing robot along with an operator to assist Zooscapes with the installation. Thanks to the SLX 2000, the team at Zooscapes were able to lift and install 12 glass units, each measuring approximately 3m x 2m over a two-day period. With each unit weighing up to 630kg, the SLX 2000 proved to be a highly capable machine for the job. It helped lift the panels from their stillages and manoeuvre them through the construction site prior to installation. The glazing robot was then able to lift the panels over metal framing and into their recess. Once in place, fine adjustments could be made using the SLX 2000’s precision controls. The installation team could then seal the large units into their recess.
BACKGROUND TO THE PROJECT The installation was part of the Yorkshire Wildlife Park’s new African penguin habitat.

After discussions with Paul regarding the size and weight of the glass, I determined that the SLX 2000 would be a perfect fit for the job. It’s capable of handling heavy glazing units up to 1,000kg and offers the outreach and millimetre precision that would be required here.
This project shows how glazing robots can assist specialist contractors in handling large, heavy glass panels.
We agreed on a date and delivered the machine to site. I personally attended the installation as an operator over a two-day period, helping Paul and his team to install the glass.
Glazing robots can avoid the need for larger, more expensive machinery such as vacuum lifting attachments connected to telehandlers. This not only helps to reduce costs but can also help to improve site safety. Further information on glass lifting machinery and hire services is available from CPSLift.com.
The new habitat looks fantastic and is a real asset to the park. More importantly, it will help to conserve this endangered species for years to come. I would like to offer a personal thank you to Paul and his team, Joe Ridgeway and Yorkshire Wildlife Park staff for their assistance whilst on-site.”
By combining high-quality Smartlift machinery with an experienced operator, panels can be lifted, moved and positioned in a safe and efficient manner.
John Burton, Director at CPSLift.com
The company would like to thank all those involved in the project. Special thanks to Paul Bullimore and his team, Joe Ridgeway, and the staff at Yorkshire Wildlife Park for their assistance throughout the project.

Its planned entry into the UK market marks the next step in the company’s global expansion strategy. Edgar Avetisyan, CEO of PROFAL, stated: “Europe is already a strong export market for us, led by France, alongside our consistent presence in the US, Canada, the Caribbean, and the Middle East. Our products are highly competitive and wellreceived in these regions. Right now, we are working very hard on penetrating the UK market, where we see immense potential. While it is a very tough market in terms of certification and quality assurance, we readily embrace these challenges as part of our commitment to excellence.”
To support its international growth and increase production efficiency, PROFAL is constructing a state-of-the-art glass processing plant in Armenia - the largest of its kind in the region. Built to the highest international standards and equipped with cutting-edge machinery, the new facility will increase PROFAL’s glass processing capacity approximately fivefold. Most installers and glazing businesses already have someone doing their books. What they don’t always have is someone who’s actually run a business like theirs and can help them see where the money is really being made or lost. We’re looking forward to being back on the floor, at stand H13, in 2027 and having more of those conversations.”
QUOTE FROM NICKIE WEST, EVENT DIRECTOR, FIT SHOW Nickie West, FIT Show event director said: “We are delighted to welcome Clever Bean Accounting back to FIT Show 2027. COUNTDOWN TO THE FIT SHOW 2027
The UK’s Leading Glass & Glazing Newspaper
TIMBER REPRESENTATION TO BE STRENGTHENED AT FIT SHOW 2027 WITH THE JOINERY NETWORK’S RETURN The Joinery Network will return to FIT Show 2027, reinforcing the growing presence of timber at the UK’s only dedicated exhibition for the fenestration industry, and helping installers understand the opportunities, requirements and practical realities of working with timber. Taking place at the NEC Birmingham from 18 - 20 May 2027, FIT Show will bring together manufacturers, suppliers, fabricators, installers, joiners, contractors, architects and specifiers from across the window, door, glass, glazing, roofing and building sectors. The Joinery Network is a cooperative of specialist companies supporting businesses that manufacture or install timber windows and doors. Through its Lignum system and wider network of partners, it provides access to certified products, testing, hardware, tooling, software, training, technical advice and business support. The Network’s Lignum system provides joinery manufacturers with access to fully tested timber windows and doors designed to help them meet relevant Building Regulation requirements, including PAS 24 and Document Q. Its wider aim is to strengthen UK joinery manufacturing and help more businesses grow confidently in the timber market. The Joinery Network’s return will support FIT Show’s expanding focus on timber and provide a platform for its members, partners and affiliates to connect directly with installers and other businesses looking to develop their timber offering. Timber accounted for more than 9% of all material interests recorded by FIT Show visitors in 2025, while timber systems
46
represented more than 16% of systems-related interest. The event also attracted 559 joiners, nearly 2,000 fabricators and more than 2,500 installers, highlighting the relevance of the audience for timber businesses. The Joinery Network is focused on helping installers understand how timber products can be specified, supplied and installed successfully, from standard products through to bespoke solutions. Its FIT Show presence will aim to demystify timber and show visitors what is possible, what needs to be considered and where expert support can make a difference. “We are speaking to more and more installers who want to work with timber,” says Andy Ball, The Joinery Network. “Timber is one of the fastest-growing areas of interest in the sector, but there can still be uncertainty around the products, the process and the level of expertise required. “Our role is to make that journey clearer. Visitors should be able to come to FIT Show and see what is available, understand the difference between off-theshelf and bespoke joinery, and learn what is needed to deliver a successful installation.” The Joinery Network will deliver practical demonstrations through the FIT Show Demo Zone, which will include a start-to-finish
timber installation journey. This is likely to cover product selection, ordering, design, manufacture, coatings, glazing, installation and aftercare, while also showing where timber solutions may be appropriate for different project types. FIT Show 2027 visitors will benefit from live demonstrations and face-to-face advice on: When to choose bespoke or standard timber products. • What conservation officers may require. • Timber windows and doors for refurbishment and renovation. • Glazing, coatings and maintenance. • Installation best practice. • Compliance and certification. • Working with joinery manufacturers. • The role of timber in future homes and sustainable construction. The need for practical guidance is becoming increasingly important as regulation, testing and compliance requirements continue to evolve. The Joinery Network has invested significantly in testing, including work linked to the Future Homes Standard, PAS 24 and Document Q. It is also working to help
joinery companies understand requirements around CE marking, certification and compliance. “Businesses are facing substantial costs and increasingly complex requirements,” says Ball. “We have invested heavily in testing and compliance because we want to help our members and partners understand what is required and make sure they are properly prepared for what is coming next. “There are still companies across the sector that do not fully understand their obligations. That is not unusual, but it does create risk. Installers need to know that the products they are buying are properly tested, correctly documented and suitable for the application.” The Joinery Network is also developing a wider network of joinery companies, giving installers access to established manufacturers and helping to address one of the common challenges in the sector: capacity and lead times. “When a joinery company becomes busy, lead times can quickly move from eight weeks to 30 weeks,” Ball explains. “Our

network gives installers access to a broader group of capable businesses, helping to create more choice and resilience in the supply chain.” “We want to create a joined-up timber experience at FIT Show. Installers should be able to see the products, understand the manufacturing process, learn about coatings and glazing, and speak to the people who can help them deliver the finished project the entire timber eco-system. “Timber should not feel like a closed or specialist world. With the right support, it can be a real opportunity for installers and businesses looking to diversify.” Nickie West, Event Director at FIT Show, said: “We are delighted to welcome The Joinery Network back to FIT Show 2027. Timber is an increasingly important part of the fenestration and wider construction conversation, and its presence at FIT Show is growing in line with visitor interest. “The Joinery Network brings a valuable combination of technical knowledge, practical experience and industry connectivity. Its focus on demonstrations, training, compliance and helping installers understand the complete timber journey will deliver real value to our visitors. “FIT Show is about giving every part of the supply chain a platform, and we look forward to working with Andy and the wider network to create an even stronger timber presence in 2027.” Visitors to FIT Show 2027 can expect a programme packed with practical reasons to attend, from live product demonstrations and technical learning to guidance on regulations, competence and skills. The Joinery Network’s contribution will complement other visitor attractions, including the learning programme, Demo Zone, exhibitor showcases and exclusive visitor incentives. The Joinery Network will be exhibiting at FIT Show 2027, taking place at the NEC Birmingham from 18 - 20 May 2027. For further information, visit www.fitshow.co.uk.

HOT SEAT Q&A: FIT SHOW
The UK’s Leading Glass & Glazing Newspaper
WHY FIT SHOW MATTERS NOW MORE THAN EVER
JOE HAGUE, INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER, FOREL There is still nothing quite like meeting face to face. We’ve just come off the back of a hugely important celebration at FOREL’s headquarters in Italy to kick off our 50th anniversary year. Bringing people together in one place gave us the opportunity to celebrate our history, share ideas and look ahead to what comes next.
and have meaningful conversations with the people who can help them move forward.
It reminded me that some conversations simply work better in person. You can build relationships, exchange ideas, see technology first-hand and have the kind of spontaneous discussions that often lead to the biggest opportunities.
• Training providers.
That is the power of face-to-face engagement, and it is exactly why trade shows matter. I’ve been involved with every edition of FIT Show, and I’ve seen first-hand how much the event has developed over the years. I’ve also seen what happens when major industry shows disappear. When an event closes its doors, the impact is much bigger than losing a few days in the diary. The industry loses a meeting place, a shop window, a source of information and an opportunity for the whole supply chain to come together. That is why FIT Show matters. FIT Show is the only dedicated UK event bringing together the fenestration, glass, glazing, building and installation communities in one place. That is something we cannot take for granted. As FOREL looks ahead to the next 50 years, we’re proud to support FIT Show 2027 and the opportunity it provides for our industry to come together, face to face, once again.
A CALL TO ARMS The industry is operating in a challenging environment. There is uncertainty in the market, pressure on margins, ongoing regulatory change and constant demands to work more efficiently. But difficult conditions do not mean we should step back from the opportunities available to us. In many cases, they make those opportunities more important. A trade show gives businesses the chance to step away from the day-to-day, see what is changing, understand what is coming next
www.glassnews.co.uk | October 2026
We need companies to ask themselves: • What can we bring to FIT Show?
FIT Show only works when every part of the industry gets behind it.
• What can we learn from the people who attend?
We need the full supply chain represented, including:
• What can we do to make the event more useful?
• Machinery manufacturers.
• How can we help ensure every part of the supply chain feels represented?
• Glass processors and suppliers.
Don’t Wait for the Opportunity to Disappear
• Systems companies. • Component and hardware manufacturers.
I’ve seen the industry without the shows it once relied on.
• Software and technology providers. • Fabricators. • Installers and fitters. • Trade bodies and industry associations. • Distributors and service providers. Every link has a role to play, and every link benefits when the industry has a strong, relevant and properly supported meeting place.
WHY EXHIBITORS SHOULD BE THERE For exhibitors, FIT Show is not simply about putting a stand in a hall. It is an opportunity to demonstrate what you are delivering for customers. It is a chance to show how your products, machinery, services and expertise can help businesses improve productivity, solve problems, meet new requirements and take advantage of emerging opportunities. The most valuable conversations often happen when people can see something relevant, ask questions directly and compare the options available to them. That is particularly important now, when businesses are making careful decisions about where to invest their time and money. If you have something that can help the UK and Irish industry work more efficiently, improve quality, address skills gaps, meet regulatory requirements or unlock new opportunities, FIT Show is the place to bring it to the market.
WHY VISITORS SHOULD COME
Joe Hague, International Business Development Manager at FOREL, has been involved with every edition of FIT Show. In this latest talking-head piece, Joe explains why the event matters, what the industry risks losing when shows disappear, and why every link in the supply chain needs to play its part in supporting the UK’s only dedicated fenestration, glass, glazing and installation event. As FOREL continues to celebrate its 50th anniversary, Joe also explains why the company will be supporting FIT Show 2027: to stand alongside its customers and partners, strengthen its connection with the UK market and showcase the machinery and technology helping glass processors and manufacturers meet the challenges ahead. likeminded people who are dealing with the same challenges. It is also about making new connections. You may come to the show looking for one particular product or supplier, but you often leave with ideas, knowledge and contacts that can influence your business well beyond the event itself.
WE NEED THE WHOLE INDUSTRY The future of FIT Show is not something that belongs solely to the organisers. It belongs to the industry.
It is about finding practical answers to the issues businesses are facing every day.
If manufacturers want a platform to launch products, suppliers want access to customers, installers want relevant education and visitors want to see the latest solutions, then we all have a responsibility to support the event.
It is about understanding the latest standards and regulations, seeing new machinery and processing solutions, exploring products from existing and potential suppliers, and learning from
That means exhibiting, visiting, sharing information, encouraging colleagues to attend and being prepared to have an open conversation about what the industry needs next.
For visitors, the value of FIT Show is about more than discovering new products.
Once an event has gone, it is incredibly difficult to recreate the same level of momentum, engagement and participation. The best way to protect the future of a major industry event is to support it while it is here. This is not about looking back. It is about looking forward. FIT Show is an opportunity to lift our heads, share what is working, understand what is changing and help shape the future of the industry. Every link in the supply chain should be part of that conversation. So, whether you are a machinery manufacturer, a glass company, a systems house, a component supplier, a fabricator, an installer, a training provider or an industry body, I would encourage you to get involved. Exhibit. Visit. Share your experience. Bring your customers. Bring your team. Start the conversations that will help move your business and the industry forward. FOREL will be supporting FIT Show 2027 because we believe in the importance of the industry coming together. As FOREL reaches its 50th anniversary, it feels especially significant to be part of an event that connects our experience and innovation with the future of the UK market. We look forward to meeting customers, partners and the wider supply chain at the show. Because FIT Show is not just another event in the calendar. It is our industry’s UK meeting place. And its success depends on all of us.
“The future of FIT Show is not something that belongs solely to the organisers. It belongs to the industry.” 47
HERITAGE PRODUCTS
The UK’s Leading Glass & Glazing Newspaper
MADE FOR THE HERITAGE SECTOR Heritage properties in the UK can often be a challenge when it comes to replacing windows and doors. Firstly there’s the regulations (both local and national) combined with the task of maintaining a look and style that is in keeping with the tradition of the building. Last but by no means least, companies also have to ensure homeowner satisfaction. All challenging but not insurmountable. When installing PVC-u windows and doors in heritage buildings, a critical factor is ventilation. The Building Regulations, Approved Document F (means of ventilation) changed in June 2022, thus making it compulsory for companies replacing existing windows and doors, to meet new ventilation requirements. With installation of mechanical ventilation being expensive, inconvenient and time consuming (as ducting would need to be installed), the most practical and affordable way to achieve compliance is to install trickle vents to window and door profiles or frames. Add in, that most if not all homeowners are looking for a perfect finish to maintain the traditional aesthetics and it is clear that getting the right ventilation solution is now vital for any window and door fabricator or installer operating in the heritage sector.
VENTILATION SOLUTIONS Glazpart (the leading glazing component manufacturer) has always collaborated with customers to find the best ventilation solutions for windows and doors in buildings that may be listed and/or in conservation areas. Whether its glazing accessories or ventilation Glazpart has always strived to find solutions that not only work best for fabricators and installers but also for homeowners.
“The unique feature of the Modular Vent is the potential to assemble the ventilation EQA required by clipping the modules together before fitting to the windows.”
48
THE MODULAR VENT In January 2025, Glazpart launched the re-designed Modular Vent to its award-winning trickle vent range. Developed for PVC-u vertical sliders, the Modular Vent is fully compliant with regulations, has high performance and is available in a wide range of colours and finishes - ideal for heritage windows, especially vertical slider options. The product underwent a radical re-design to improve both performance and aesthetics as well as to bring it in to line with the latest regulatory changes. The Modular Vent meets the ventilation requirements in accordance with the Building Regulations 2000: Part F: Approved Document F1 October 2010 and Scottish Building Regulations October 2011 Standard. Specifically designed for “Through Profile” PVC-u applications using a 19mm routed slot, all ventilators are “Clip” fixed with the advantage of rapid fitting to profiles. The unique feature of the Modular Vent is the potential to assemble the ventilation EQA required by clipping the modules together before fitting to the windows. This provides different combinations where each module delivers 2000 EQA, 2 gives 4,000 EQA, 3 gives 6,000 EQA and so on. This installation only needs two end caps per set. The Modular Vent is one of the shortest trickle vents in the market but is the highest performing trickle vent for watertightness at 1000 Pa and with a Spring Clip fitting (no screws) it also saves time when installing. The Modular Vent consists of an internal unit with adjustable closures to regulate incoming air flow and also has a choice of external protective screens.
THE LINK VENT The market leading Link Vent comes in sizes 5000, 4000 and 2500 EQA, all designed to fully comply with Building Regulations. With smart design the Link Vent’s innovative and flexible closing action allows the closure plate to be positioned so that it reduces draughts by directing air away from occupants. The Link Vent design eliminates the need for end caps whilst the clip fix design (Pawl’s) allows for a fast, easy vent installation.
ACHIEVING THE TRADITIONAL LOOK To ensure a seamless finish, Glazpart’s trickle vents can be camouflaged in window profiles in over 40 moulded system house colours. Using state-of-the-art machinery, Glazpart’s huge choice of colours and decorative finishes are perfect for trickle vents in heritage buildings and include woodgrain print effects, RAL colours and British Standard colours plus a colour swatch matching service. The colour applications for the Link Vent and Modular Vent finishes include moulding, etched finish and aqua foiled options. The premium finish ranges are also available in handy packs of either 10 canopies or internal vents so that companies only need to buy the stock required. All colours are extremely stable and durable with the trickle vents holding their colour through constant exposure to extreme and constant elements of weather, without noticeable fading. If you are operating in the heritage sector, why not contact Glazpart’s Dean Bradley to find out more about trickle vents and glazing accessories. PRIME SASH WINDOWS SHORTLISTED FOR MX AWARD FOLLOWING SMART MANUFACTURING TRANSFORMATION
W E N
Prime Sash Windows powered by Joinery Core has reached the finals of The Manufacturer MX Awards, recognising the company’s progress in using information and technology to improve manufacturing performance and create a smarter, more connected business. The journey began with a familiar challenge: too much information stored in too many places. Estimates, drawings, emails, spreadsheets, stock records and production updates were being managed separately, making it difficult to get a clear, live view of each project. A major part of the company’s digital transformation was the development of its 3D online window and door configurator, PSW. The configurator allows customers to design their own windows and doors by selecting dimensions, materials, glazing, finishes, ironmongery and other options. It then provides an instant price and technical drawings, creating a much faster and more interactive customer experience. Product information can then be transferred into Joinery Core, helping to connect the customer journey directly with estimating, design and manufacturing. As the business became more digital, the amount of information flowing through the company also increased. To manage this more effectively, Joinery Core was developed around the practical needs of the joinery operation. The platform brings project specifications, procurement, production stages, labour allocation, quality checks, deliveries and project costs together in one place. What started as a solution to an internal challenge is now creating wider opportunities. Joinery Core has external paying customers, with other manufacturers also trialling the platform. This demonstrates that many of the challenges experienced by Prime Sash Windows are shared across the wider joinery and specialist manufacturing sector.

VBH SUPPLIES PRESTBURY – 3 STAYS IN 1 Hardware specialist VBH have announced that Cotswold’s innovative new Prestbury Stay is the latest exciting addition to their product range. Prestbury is a side hung friction stay that provides Restricted, Egress and Easy Clean functions all in one stay. The restrictor function negates the need to fit additional hardware in situations where restriction is required on an egress window. In this position, the stay will allow a nominal maximum 100mm opening, depending on the sash width and profile design. When the restriction is released, Prestbury moves into Egress mode, allowing the sash to open fully to provide a clear exit route for occupants, and clear access for emergency teams. The restriction release tab is finished in vibrant green to make it easily identifiable in the event of an emergency. It spans the whole width of the track for ease of operation without risk of finger trapping. The Easy Clean function provides sufficient space between the frame/mullion and sash to allow the user to clean the sash’s exterior from inside the building. The sash can be pulled closed directly from any position. Crucially, when the sash is
closed, Presbury automatically resets so that it is in its safe, restricted, position the next time the window is opened. Gary Gleeson, marketing manager at VBH says, “Throughout our 44-year history in the UK, VBH’s aim has always been to offer the best, most innovative products to our customers, whether those products are from our own greenteQ brand or from one of our chosen supply partners. “In Prestbury, the team at Cotswold has designed and produced a top quality friction stay that is just what the market has been waiting for. We are proud to add Prestbury to our extensive friction stay range.” VBH advise that Prestbury has been tested to relevant safety standards and is covered by Cotswold Architectural Products’ 10year mechanical guarantee. For more information on Presbury 3-in-1 friction stays contact VBH direct on 01634 263300 or email info@vbhgb.com.

LOW FORCE IS NOT SIMPLY EASIER. IT ENABLES EVERYTHING ELSE. The fenestration industry rightly talks about security, weather performance, and appearance. Far less attention is given to the effort required to operate a door. That matters because homeowners experience the quality of a doorset through use. They feel it when the door closes cleanly, the lock engages smoothly, and the key turns without the slab first needing to be pushed or pulled into position. They also feel it when operation becomes difficult. The 2025 Keystone Consumer Trends Report reinforces the importance homeowners place on performance, reliability, and usability. These priorities are closely connected. A door that is difficult to lock may still meet the required security standard, but to the homeowner it can feel poorly engineered, unreliable, or already in need of attention. Andy Meakin, Sales Director at Winkhaus UK, explains: “Customers rarely ask specifically for low operating force, but they immediately recognise the difference. Smooth operation quickly becomes part of how they judge the quality of the entire doorset.”
locking system designed for lower force and real world movement could have mitigated the issue. Repeated across hundreds or thousands of doors, call backs affect productivity, margin, customer satisfaction, and reputation. The cost includes travel, administration, lost installation time, and weakened homeowner confidence. Low force is therefore not a comfort feature. It is part of designing out lifetime cost and uncertainty.
THE HIDDEN BARRIER TO SMART ADOPTION Operating force becomes even more important when smart technology is introduced. A person can feel resistance and compensate by pushing or pulling the door. A motor cannot make that judgement. It can only attempt to complete the movement it has been instructed to perform. If the lock requires excessive force, the motor must work harder. This can increase energy use, affect battery life, create noise, and place greater strain on the device. Door movement that results in a minor inconvenience with a key can
therefore become a barrier to reliable smart operation. Smart hardware cannot be judged in isolation. Fabricators, installers, and homeowners all need confidence that it will perform reliably in real doors and real conditions. If they expect difficulty, smart adoption slows.
Correct fabrication and installation remain essential. Alignment, keeps, hinges, compression, and door dimensions all influence performance. Engineering for lower force creates a stronger starting point for real world conditions.
Low force helps create the conditions in which smart can succeed.
SECURITY SHOULD FEEL EFFORTLESS
ENGINEERED AS A FOUNDATION
The strongest demonstration of low force is often the simplest: let the customer operate the door.
Within Crafted Synergy, low operating force is treated as a system principle. Winkhaus autoLock AV4 locks automatically when the door is pulled closed, without the homeowner needing to lift the handle, and requires up to 70% less operating force than competitor products tested by Winkhaus. Polaris is configured around Winkhaus low force multi-point locking systems, helping the mechanical lock and smart device operate efficiently together. Lower resistance supports smoother use, reduces unnecessary demand on the motor, and helps the complete doorset accommodate the movement and tolerances encountered beyond the factory.
The difference between a doorset that closes and locks smoothly and one that requires visible effort can be recognised immediately. It turns an unseen piece of engineering into a tangible expression of quality. For fabricators and installers, that creates a stronger sales proposition while helping to reduce future call backs and protect margin. For homeowners, it delivers the reliability and ease of use they value. For smart technology, it provides the mechanical foundation needed for efficient, consistent performance. Low force is not simply easier. It enables usability, reliability, smart performance, and confidence in the complete doorset.
A HIDDEN COMMERCIAL ISSUE Operating force is often treated as a technical detail, but its consequences are commercial. Doors move. Materials respond to changes in temperature, compression, and everyday use. When the locking system has limited tolerance for that movement, a door that worked well at installation can become harder to operate as conditions change. The homeowner experiences resistance. The installer receives the call. Time is spent inspecting and adjusting, even where a

WESTCOTE HALL WINS DOMESTIC PROJECT OF THE YEAR FOR THE COTSWOLD CASEMENT COMPANY AT THE SWA AWARDS 2026 SENIOR ACHIEVES DEFENCE EMPLOYER RECOGNITION SCHEME BRONZE AWARD
The Cotswold Casement Company has been named Domestic Project of the Year at the Steel Window Association Awards 2026 for its work on the restoration of Westcote Hall, one of Northamptonshire’s most significant historic country houses.
Senior Architectural Systems has strengthened its commitment to supporting the UK’s Armed Forces community with the news that the company has been awarded the Bronze Award under the Ministry of Defence’s Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS).
With origins as a 17th‑century Jacobean Hall, and later transformed into an Edwardian hunting lodge, Westcote Hall represents centuries of architectural evolution. The project required a sensitive glazing solution that would enhance natural light and usability while remaining respectful of the building’s historic fabric.
This follows Senior’s recent signing of the Armed Forces Covenant, a voluntary pledge made by UK organisations to support serving personnel, veterans, reservists and their families, and to recognise the value they bring to the workplace.
The result is a carefully judged balance of modern performance and traditional craftsmanship, preserving the character and elegance of Westcote Hall while ensuring its longevity for future generations.
The Bronze Award formally acknowledges Senior’s intent and actions to uphold the principles of the Covenant and to encourage opportunities for those who serve or have served. The ERS scheme recognises employers across three levels — Bronze, Silver and Gold — based on their commitment to defence personnel. Receiving the Bronze Award signals Senior’s intention to strengthen its support for the Armed Forces community and to champion the skills and experience they bring to its business and the wider industry. For more information and to view ERS register of Bronze Award holders, which is published by the Ministry of Defence and available via the GOV.UK website, please follow this link -https:// www.gov.uk/government/publications/ defence-employer-recognition-scheme/ defence-employer-recognitionscheme#bronze-award Please visit www.seniorarchitectural.co.uk or search for Senior Architectural Systems on LinkedIn, Instagramand Facebook.

The Cotswold Casement Company supplied and installed its slimline W20 and W30 steel window profiles which were selected for their authentic sightlines and suitability for conservation settings. Bespoke, intricately shaped heads were also designed and manufactured to align precisely with the Hall’s original masonry and proportions.
The project’s ironmongery was supplied by SWA associate member Steel Window Fittings, complementing the overall quality and craftsmanship of the installation. Judging the awards, John Ramshaw, Technical Editor of Architecture Today, comments “Westcote Hall is a large country house with origins in the 17th century and later Edwardian development, resulting in a building defined by multiple architectural phases. Work focused on restoring the historic fabric while introducing new steel windows and doors capable of meeting current performance requirements. The brief called for improved daylighting and the careful integration of new elements within the existing masonry openings. “A series of bespoke steel window and door systems was developed using W20 and W30 profiles to satisfy both visual and technical requirements. Individual openings were addressed through tailored designs, including specially formed curved heads that follow the façade’s distinctive stone detailing. Double-glazing was incorporated within slim sections to improve thermal performance while retaining traditional sightlines. Overall, the new work sits comfortably within the façade and complements the building’s historic composition. The Cotswold Casement Company has delivered a

scheme of exceptional quality, defined by high levels of craftsmanship and precision. Particular attention has been given to the bespoke shaped heads, which integrate seamlessly with the existing structure and reinforce the architectural language of the historic building. Careful selection of W20 and W30 profiles ensures that performance requirements are met without compromising aesthetics. Close collaboration with the wider project team is evident throughout, resulting in a refined and cohesive outcome. A sophisticated and deserving winner.” Steel Window Fittings provided hardware for Westcote Hall. The B205 key-locking window handles were installed as part of a duplex system, chosen for their close resemblance to traditional heritage designs. Concealed multipoint locking was also added to doors to provide security and weather sealing while preserving the simplicity and originality of the steel doors. To ensure proper fitting, smooth movement, and precise adjustment, B300 hinges designed specifically for steel were included. To match precisely, all ironmongery was finished in antique black. Matthew Hahn, Managing Director, for The Cotswold Casement Company commented "Winning Best Domestic Project at the
SWA Awards for the second-year running is an extraordinary achievement for our business, and one I am immensely proud of. To receive this recognition once is a significant milestone; to be honoured again is a powerful testament to the consistent excellence, creativity, and dedication that define our team. It reflects not only the quality of our work, but the passion and attention to detail that we bring to every project we undertake. This award reinforces our commitment to delivering outstanding results for our clients and continually raising the standard of what we do. It is a clear validation of our approach, our values, and the high standards we set for ourselves. “I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our entire team for their hard work, expertise, and unwavering commitment. This success belongs to all of you. “My thanks also go to the SWA team, John Ramshaw of Architecture Today, and the team at Taylor Alden for their valued support and contribution to this project. Together, we continue to build something truly special." RISA are usually called in when window and door installers are already entrenched in a dispute, but by that point, what may have started as a relatively straightforward technical issue can be much harder to resolve.
Midlands a few years ago, where the survey information had missed the requirement for safety glass next to a door and that detail had then been repeated across every property,” explains Dave.
Here, RISA explains how earlier intervention can help protect installers' reputations, margins and customer relationships.
“If one piece of safety glass is missing, it's a problem that can quite easily be fixed. But in this case, there were hundreds of houses and hundreds of units that needed to be changed. It got very expensive very quickly for what was, in principle, a basic specification error. On a large contract, identifying that kind of issue early can prevent it being replicated across hundreds of units,” Dave warns.
Most window and door installers do not involve RISA until they are already on the back foot – perhaps facing threatened or active legal action.
Installers must also consider whether the products being specified are appropriate for the environment in which they will be installed.
While installers can call on RISA for technical support at a much earlier stage, in practice the organisation is disproportionately brought in once a dispute has already escalated and positions have hardened.
This is particularly relevant in coastal and highly exposed locations – including parts of the South West, Scotland and other areas subject to severe weather – where RISA regularly encounters window and door installations that are not appropriately specified for the conditions they face.
“That isn't always the best time to bring us in,” explains Lee Galley, Inspection Manager, RISA. “The earlier we can address the situation and give the consumer some confidence in what the installer is doing, the better.” While RISA's involvement may not be required for straightforward domestic installations, early technical input can be invaluable on more complex projects, particularly where specification, exposure, design interfaces or contractual requirements introduce additional risk. “We can get in at the very beginning of a project if you've got something really complex that's going on,” says Dave Mechem, Managing Director, RISA and FENSA. That early intervention allows us to get in there and spot those problems before they happen.” One of the most useful opportunities for early RISA input is during the specification and planning of larger or more complex contracts, where a small error can be repeated across many properties. “The specification of a window or door is really important,” says Lee. “If you start off on the wrong foot, you're going to end up in a dispute situation.” While a mistake at the specification stage may appear relatively minor when looking at an individual property, the consequences can be significant if the mistake is repeated across a large development. “An example of that is a large housing association contract I visited in the
“We can check those things up front to help installers establish whether the chosen product is capable of meeting the demands of its intended environment before it reaches site,” confirms Lee. With the specialist knowledge needed to make important specification decisions often held by more than one person or organisation, RISA can also play a key role in bringing this information together. “There is specialist knowledge that, a lot of the time, the developers themselves and the architects don't have,” explains Lee. “There is sometimes a disconnect between the people that are actually purchasing these windows and the people that actually make those calculations about their air tightness and water resistance values, such as the systems companies, for instance. RISA sits in the middle to help link those parties together.” For installers, RISA should not simply be viewed as a dispute resolution service to call once matters have become entrenched. Its expertise can be used proactively on complex specifications, larger contracts and emerging technical concerns to help identify problems earlier, reduce the likelihood of escalation and protect margins, reputation and customer relationships in the process. For more information about RISA, please visit www.risaltd.co.uk, call 0207 939 9301, or email enquiries@risaltd.co.uk.

COLD CALLING
The UK’s Leading Glass & Glazing Newspaper
DANNY WILLIAMS
‘COLD CALLING’ Each month our special correspondent Danny Williams* replies to a reader’s letter...
THE TRUTH HURTS. ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S CHEAP. There is an old rule about market research that says you should never ask people what they do when you can actually watch what they do. Ask somebody whether they buy food based on health, quality and nutritional value and they'll tell you absolutely. Follow them around Tesco five minutes later and they're loading a family-sized bag of crisps and two bottles of Pinot Grigio into the trolley because they're on Clubcard. Which brings me neatly to window installers. Keystone Market Research, commissioned by AdminBase, has just produced the first instalment of its UK Installer Insights Report, What Makes a True Supplier Partner? And before I start throwing stones at one particular finding, let me say that I think the research itself is excellent and long overdue. As far as I can remember, nobody has attempted anything quite like this across our industry before, certainly not on this scale and with the intention of making the findings freely available. AdminBase deserves considerable credit for putting its money behind it and Keystone for doing the work. But there's a problem. When installers were asked what matters when choosing a supplier, product quality came top,
scoring 7.8 out of 10. Reliability and lead times scored 6.9, while accurate orders first time came in at 6.8. The conclusion is unequivocal: quality is the biggest differentiator, service comes second and accurate orders comes third. I have spent enough years supplying installers to suggest that there might be a slight difference between what people tell market researchers and what they actually do when somebody waves a cheaper window under their nose. Because my experience suggests that ‘Price’ is the predominant factor when choosing a supplier. Or perhaps I should say ‘cheap’… At Pioneer, a significant proportion of our working lives is spent talking to installers complaining bitterly about suppliers that have let them down. Frames arriving late, frames arriving wrong, glass missing, damage, remakes, phones not answered and promised deliveries that mysteriously fail to materialise. You listen sympathetically as they describe a supplier relationship that sounds less like a commercial partnership and more like an abusive marriage. Then you ask the obvious question: "So why are you still buying from them?" Very often, somewhere underneath all the huffing, puffing and swearing, comes the answer. They're cheap. This isn't everybody, obviously. In fact my favoured Pareto Principle comes into play perfectly here: around 20% of installers are professionally managed firms that genuinely understand procurement and calculate supplier performance across the whole cost of doing business. But there are also plenty that will tolerate levels of incompetence from a cheap supplier that would have them changing supplier overnight if they were paying another £20 a window. That's why I don't think the Keystone research is wrong. I think it has uncovered
something rather more interesting than its headline conclusion. It has identified what installers believe they value, which isn't necessarily the same thing as what their behaviour shows they value. Nobody filling in a professional industry survey particularly wants to tick the box marked: "Actually, I'll buy any old rubbish if it's cheap enough." We like to think of ourselves as rational businesspeople making sophisticated purchasing decisions. Quality? Absolutely. Reliability? Essential. Right first time? Couldn't operate without it. Price? Oh yes, obviously important, but only 12.3% of respondents said they’d leave their current supplier for a better price. Balls. If that were universally true, some suppliers in this industry wouldn't have any customers. The really extraordinary part is that many installers don't even know what their cheap windows actually cost them. They know the invoice price down to the last penny, but ask them what a remake costs and things get a little hazier. I'm not talking about the price of the replacement frame; I'm talking about the actual cost. Add up the phone calls, the administrator chasing it, the fitter arriving and discovering it's wrong, the return visit, another van journey and another chunk of diary space. Then add the customer who took another morning off work, the apology, the fitter you can't send somewhere else and the final payment that doesn't arrive because the job isn't finished. Perhaps worst of all is the customer who was perfectly happy with you until your supplier made you look incompetent. Put all that into the calculation and that window you bought £30 cheaper suddenly doesn't look terribly cheap. This is where I think the AdminBase/ Keystone research becomes genuinely useful, because perhaps its most important
message isn't for suppliers at all. It's for installers. The report says installers want quality, reliability, accuracy and service. Excellent. Then start buying that way. Measure your suppliers properly. Record remakes, shortages and late deliveries, and record the hours your staff spend sorting out mistakes. Put a cost against additional site visits and delayed completions. Work out which suppliers genuinely contribute to your profitability rather than simply giving you the lowest figure in the "price each" column. Because there's an uncomfortable irony here. Installers spend their lives trying to persuade homeowners not to buy replacement windows purely on price. They explain why their product is better, why their installation is better and why their guarantees and service are worth paying for. They complain bitterly about the cowboy down the road knocking £2,000 off a quotation just to get the order. Then some of them go back to the office and buy their own windows from whoever knocks twenty quid off a frame. You couldn't make it up. So I applaud AdminBase and Keystone for this research and I'm genuinely looking forward to the rest of the series. We desperately need proper data about this industry rather than another bloke in a polo shirt announcing what "the market" is doing based on conversations with six customers and somebody he met at the FIT Show. But research also deserves to be challenged, discussed and tested against experience. In this case I don't doubt for one moment that installers told Keystone that quality comes first, service second and price third. I believe them. I'm just not convinced that they always believe themselves. And perhaps that's the most useful finding of all.
* Danny Williams is managing director of Chelmsford based Pioneer Trading and has been involved with all aspects of the windows and doors industry for 30 years. His activities include manufacturing a full range of windows and doors in PVC-U and aluminium, an IGU facility, retailing and commercial contracting.

CASE STUDY
The UK’s Leading Glass & Glazing Newspaper
DELIVERING HERITAGE STYLE AND MODERN PERFORMANCE AT WELBORNE GARDEN VILLAGE Welborne in Hampshire is a new generation sustainable garden village delivering 6,000 homes designed to blend traditional architectural character with highperforming houses built for the future. As part of the project, Roseview Windows was selected as the fabricator to supply REHAU’s Heritage vertical slider windows, for both domestic and commercial properties throughout Welborne.
A PERFECT MATCH FOR THE ARCHITECTURAL VISION With its focus on creating an authentic heritage aesthetic supported by modern, low maintenance materials, Welborne was the perfect fit for Roseview Windows. It appealed to the team because Welborne sits exactly where they are operating in the market – blending sustainability with visual innovation. Welborne is being built to a Design Code set by the award-winning Architectural Designer Ben Pentreath OBE and reflects the traditions of Hampshire architecture and Garden City styles. Welborne’s homes require windows that deliver traditional sash styling in line with the heritage-led design intent, as well as high-performance uPVC construction to ensure durability and low maintenance requirements.
USING REHAU HERITAGE PROFILES FOR AUTHENTICITY The Welborne team selected REHAU’s Heritage profile system in Roseview’s Ultimate Rose finish for its ability to replicate traditional timber aesthetics while delivering advanced modern performance. Providing thermal efficiency,
aesthetic authenticity, security and longterm durability are all factors essential to Welborne’s vision and are central to achieving a cohesive heritage feel throughout. Inspired by the Garden City movement, Welborne blends the best elements of town and country life, bringing together a sustainable, thoughtfully designed community that celebrates heritage architecture and is close to nature, while offering the practicalities and comforts of modern life. The Arts and Crafts, Garden City and Queen Anne styles draw on characteristic features of these traditions, ranging from individuality and variety to the use of local materials, along with a deeply rooted connection to nature and the surrounding land.
BESPOKE REQUIREMENTS FOR A HERITAGE-LED VISION To meet the detailed design specifications, Roseview supplied units built to a defined configuration. This included a white woodgrain finish, eclipse vents, Secured
by Design (SBD) protection and VFlex + 4/20/4 soft clear (no-low-iron) glazing on all windows. To secure the contract, Roseview demonstrated its ability to achieve U-values of 1.3 throughout Welborne, which the REHAU Heritage vertical slider window system delivered. Roseview has worked in partnership with REHAU for over 40 years, making them one of the longest-standing fabricators using the Heritage system. This long-standing experience has ensured the smooth and reliable delivery to a highly individualised specification, with zero challenges throughout the fabrication process.
SUPPORTING A THRIVING COMMUNITY Welborne is creating a thriving new community with characterful design and nature at its heart. Using REHAU’s Heritage vertical slider windows, Roseview has been part of realising this vision, keeping authenticity at the forefront and providing the long-term performance benefits expected of modern housebuilding. This partnership highlights how heritage aesthetics and uPVC innovation can work together to create homes that look traditional, deliver exceptional longterm performance and require minimal maintenance. Keane Grantham, Marketing Manager at Roseview Windows, said: “Welborne has been an exciting project for our team to work on. It’s rare that an opportunity comes along that is so closely tied to your values. It has been fantastic to showcase what we’re all about. The REHAU Heritage profile in the Ultimate Rose specification was the perfect choice for Welborne, delivering not only on style, but on performance too.” Luke Boban, Head of Sales, at REHAU, said: “Welborne provided a strong platform to showcase the REHAU Heritage vertical sash at its best. It proves that uPVC can work for heritage-led design. It’s a job we’re genuinely proud of, and one we’ve been delighted to deliver alongside Roseview Windows.

BRAND AMBASSADOR ALYSSA JONES SHARES HER EXPERIENCE WORKING FOR THE RESIDENCE COLLECTION After only joining the team three months ago, Alyssa Jones is already making a positive impact at The Residence Collection and is excited to progress her career with the award-winning window and door business. Alyssa’s role as Brand Ambassador for the North so far has allowed her to provide account management-style services, offering ongoing support and guidance. A big part of this includes sharing relevant information and updates, gathering feedback, and helping ensure installers meet the necessary requirements to become a recognised Residence Installer. Installers play a significant role within the business, helping connect customers with the right professionals who can understand and fulfil their individual needs. Part of Alyssa’s initial learning experience included attending a Women In
Fenestration Network event where she learnt how to install a window, a UK-led initiative that brings women together across the fenestration and glazing industry. With the industry traditionally being more maledominated, it’s important to give women a dedicated space to connect, develop professionally and share experiences. “The WFN event was brilliant! It was an honour to be invited,” Alyssa says. “This organisation is providing pathways and opportunities to people who may have otherwise missed out or felt out of place.” Alyssa describes herself as a “handson learner”, making the event an ideal opportunity for her to develop new skills and gain a better understanding of the industry. This, combined with her driven character and previous experience in a sales/account management role where she worked closely with customers to develop strong relationships, has set her up perfectly
to begin building rapport with Residence’s installer network. Although at first, Alyssa says getting to grips with some of the specific terminology used within the industry was a challenge she faced, the team were able to make this process smoother and more enjoyable. “Meeting all the incredible people at Residence has been my highlight so far. I feel lucky to work with such a great group of people.” Sally Gingell, National Account Manager at The Residence Collection commented: “After just three months, the whole team at The Residence Collection have been really impressed by the positive impression Alyssa has made since joining. Her love for learning new things and meeting people is exactly the type of person we need at a business like ours. “We’re excited to support Alyssa as she continues to grow within the organisation

WHY INVESTING IN PEOPLE REMAINS ONE OF THE INDUSTRY’S GREATEST STRENGTHS The glass and glazing industry continue to evolve at pace. New regulations, changing customer expectations and advances in products and installation methods mean businesses are expected to demonstrate high levels of competence across every area of their operation. As these expectations continue to grow, one thing remains constant. Investing in people is one of the most effective ways to improve quality, strengthen compliance and support long-term business success. Training has always played an important role in raising standards across the industry. Today, businesses have access to a wide range of learning opportunities, from online resources that support continuous professional development to instructor-led courses that allow delegates to learn directly from experienced professionals. Each has an important place in developing competence across the sector. John Mannell, Training Manager at the Glass and Glazing Federation, says: “every business wants to deliver quality, work safely and give customers confidence in the service they provide. Training underpins all of those objectives. It equips people with the knowledge to make informed decisions and gives them the confidence to apply that knowledge in the workplace.” Instructor-led training continues to offer unique benefits for businesses looking to develop their teams. Bringing delegates together creates opportunities to ask questions, discuss real workplace scenarios and share experiences with others facing similar challenges. Those conversations often provide valuable insight that extends beyond the course material itself.
“When people share experiences from different parts of the industry, everyone benefits. Delegates leave with practical knowledge that they can apply straight away, along with a broader understanding of the challenges and solutions being experienced across the sector.” John believes this knowledge has benefits that extend well beyond the classroom. “Creating a strong safety culture starts with understanding why procedures exist and how they protect both people and businesses. Training gives delegates the confidence to identify risks, make informed decisions and contribute positively to a safer working environment.” Technical competence continues to be another key focus for the industry. Surveying, installation quality and specialist applications all play an important role in delivering successful projects and maintaining customer confidence. The GGF’s expanded programme includes courses covering the survey and installation of windows and doors in accordance with BS 8213, alongside specialist training on the installation of fire-resistant glazing. These programmes help delegates develop a stronger understanding of industry standards, installation techniques and the factors that contribute to quality workmanship. “Technical knowledge continues to evolve as products, standards and regulations develop,” John says. “Regular training helps businesses keep that knowledge current and supports greater consistency across every stage of a project, from the initial survey through to final installation.”
Regulatory awareness has also become increasingly important. Keeping up to date with changing requirements helps businesses prepare for future developments while supporting compliance with existing legislation. GGF Training has introduced courses covering Regulation 14 and Building Regulations, helping delegates understand the requirements affecting windows, doors and glazing throughout the UK and Ireland. Commercial understanding is another area where ongoing development can make a significant difference. The Sales and Compliance course helps businesses understand how compliance knowledge can support customer conversations while strengthening understanding of consumer legislation, contracts, warranties and customer responsibilities. “Competence touches every part of a business,” John adds. “Whether someone works in surveying, installation, sales or management, having the right knowledge helps them make better decisions and deliver a higher standard of service. Investing in training is ultimately an investment in the future of the business.” As the industry continues to respond to changing legislation, evolving standards and increasing customer expectations, professional development will remain central to building a skilled and confident workforce. By expanding its programme of instructor-led training, the GGF continues to provide members with practical learning opportunities that support competence, encourage knowledge sharing and help businesses prepare for the future.
READY TO INVEST IN YOUR TEAM’S DEVELOPMENT? Explore the GGF’s instructor-led training courses and find the right opportunities for you and your team. https://marketplace.ggf.org.uk/#/?type=trainer_assisted
“Some of the most valuable learning happens through discussion,” John explains. “When people share experiences from different parts of the industry, everyone benefits. Delegates leave with practical knowledge that they can apply straight away, along with a broader understanding of the challenges and solutions being experienced across the sector.” Recognising the growing demand for practical, accessible training, GGF Training has expanded its programme of instructor-led courses, giving members greater choice through both in-person and remote learning. The expanded programme has been developed to support professionals at every stage of their career, whether they are looking to strengthen technical knowledge, improve health and safety awareness or gain a better understanding of current regulations. Health and safety remain a priority for every business. Courses such as IOSH Approved Managing Safely in the Glass & Glazing Industry help directors, managers and supervisors develop a stronger understanding of workplace responsibilities, risk management and incident response. Alongside this, the Manual Handling in the Glass and Glazing Sector course focuses on the safe handling of glass products, workplace hazards and the correct use of specialist handling equipment.
