SELECTED ACADEMIC WORKS

Hi! I’m Giuliana, and this portfolio shows the work I have completed during my first year and a half in the MFA-1 program at NYSID.

I draw inspiration from nature, natural materials, and organic forms, as well as the timeless appeal of midcentury design. I’m passionate about exploring new perspectives and creating thoughtful design solutions that connect people with their surroundings. I believe interior design has the power to shape experiences and foster profound relationships between individuals and the spaces they inhabit.

01. SENNA IVF CLINIC

CONCEPT: THE ENVELOPING REFUGE

Located in Tribeca, the Senna IVF Clinic is a 10,000-square-foot boutique-style environment designed to transform the often stressful fertility journey into a supportive, human-centered experience. By moving away from a cold, clinical aesthetic, the project utilizes a “homey” concept defined by soft curves, warm materials, and gentle lighting to create a genuine sense of refuge and organic tranquility. The layout follows a rectilinear approach to ensure intuitive wayfinding and reduce patient anxiety, while customized furniture—such as the reception desk and cafe bar—features enveloping shapes designed to provide physical support and privacy. To promote holistic well-being, the clinic also integrates a dedicated wellness exercise area and garden specifically for fertility yoga classes, maintaining a vital connection to nature and calm throughout the space.

01. LAP ZERO: RETAIL STORE

CONCEPT: INSIDE THE RACETRACK

The core idea behind Lap Zero is to recreate the atmosphere of the racetrack inside a retail space. The store is designed to feel energetic, technical, and dynamic—just like Formula 1 itself. My goal is to immerse visitors in the intensity of motorsport by using materials, lighting, and spatial organization that reference speed, pit-lane culture, and precision engineering.

Ultimately, the space is not just a store. It becomes a fan’s dream environment. The inspiration imagery and color palette reinforce the Formula 1 identity.

The palette uses high-contrast tones—often black, white, metallics, and team-inspired accents—to emphasize performance, clarity, and movement.

CUSTOMIZED FURNITURE & MATERIALS

This render displays the ground-level footwear and accessories area, featuring a high-octane design. The space is defined by a customized bench inspired by an F1 car seat and a dynamic wall display with orange chevron-shaped panels and integrated LED lighting. Polished concrete finishes and floating shelves for sneakers and bags create a premium, racing-inspired retail atmosphere.

CUSTOMIZED FURNITURE & MATERIALS

This render depicts a high-end F1-themed basement lounge featuring custom furniture and industrial finishes. The space is anchored by tire-textured lounge chairs with racing stripes and a dedicated trophy display wall illuminated by integrated LED lighting. With its polished concrete walls, model car shelving, and minimalist center table, the room is styled as a sophisticated, “paddock-style” environment perfect for interviews or private hosting.

3D PERSPECTIVES & MATERIALS

A curated display of F1 helmets lines the basement wall of Lap Zero. The central lit niche spotlights

Lando Norris’s 2025 championship suit. Dark finishes and precise lighting evoke an intense, museum-like mood. This immersive space transforms the store into a sanctuary for F1 fans. Programs used: SketchUp and Enscape.

Lap Zero’s basement level features an immersive fan lounge and social hub. A suspended Formula 1 car serves as the ceiling’s high-speed focal point. LED-wrapped columns pulse with racing imagery and dynamic driver visuals. Bar seating and digital displays create an energetic space for race viewing. Programs used: SketchUp and Enscape.

02.

CONCEPT: REFUGE & COLLABORATION

This design for the Save the Children office is built around three key ideas: collaboration, refuge, and biophilia. The open work areas, shared tables, and circular team rooms at the center create a strong sense of collaboration, making it easy for staff to connect, meet, and solve problems together. The curved shapes help the space feel soft, welcoming, and people-focused.

At the same time, the design includes refuge spaces like the smaller round rooms, quiet corners, and protected seating zones along the sides. These areas give staff a break from the busy environment so they can think, rest, or work quietly when needed. They bring a feeling of safety and comfort, which mirrors the organization’s mission of protection and care.

Biophilic elements appear throughout the plan, with natural materials, plants, curved organic lines, and access to daylight along the windows. These features help create a calm, healthy atmosphere that supports wellbeing and reflects the organization’s belief in helping children grow in nurturing, life-supporting environments.

Save the Children’s office features a safe, therapeutic space for kids. A chalkboard and craft table encourage creativity near a quiet reading nook. Cloud lights and warm wood textures create a home-like feel. The design blends child well-being with the organization’s professional mission. Programs used: SketchUp and Enscape.

Curved glass partitions balance acoustic privacy with visual transparency. Natural light flows from private offices into a versatile central hub. Soft textures and warm wood finishes foster an inclusive, professional vibe. The design reflects a mission-driven culture through collaborative, open zones. Programs used: SketchUp and Enscape.

04. M.R’S APARTMENT

(work in progress)

CONCEPT: SCULPTED RESIDENTIAL SANCTUARY

Starting with a real duplex I found in Chelsea, I redesigned the floor plan to better fit a modern, art-focused lifestyle. My goal was to break away from the typical “boxy” apartment feel by using Revit to model custom, sculpted wood volumes that act as the architecture and furniture. I focused on opening up the double-height living area to let in as much light as possible, creating a seamless flow between the kitchen, the gallery-style workspace, and the private lounge. It’s a work in progress that balances raw, industrial textures with the warmth of organic minimalism, turning a standard NYC unit into a space that feels intentional, calm, and deeply personal.
