WREATH SALES ADD to HOLIDAY CHEER

“WE’RE ON A MISSION to help get a Girls Inc. of Jefferson County, IN, wreath on the door of every business in town,” Board President Abby Suiter has proclaimed.

But Girls Inc. has more than just wreaths for sale. While we do offer evergreen wreaths in a variety of sizes from 25 inches to 60 inches, we also have balsam fir garland from 15 feet to 50 feet, lovely Sugarberry centerpieces (that include their own LED lights, candle, and timer), classic door sprays, and live tabletop Christmas trees to spruce up those small spaces in your home or office.

If you’d like to support Abby’s vision for a happy holiday AND our organization by purchasing a wreath or other greenery, orders can be placed through any Girls Inc. board member (page 4), or by contacting us by phone at 812.265.5863 or by email at suzanna@girlsincjc-in.org Directions for online orders may be found on the form on page 3 of this issue. Please remember that orders must be turned in by Friday, Oct. 25, and will be available for pick up the week before Thanksgiving.

Meet Megan Cline!

WE ARE THRILLED to introduce the newest member of our Girls Inc. family, Megan Cline, who joined our staff on Sept. 16. As our Mental Health Advocate she will provide mental health support and interventions through programming, skills-based groups, and working one-on-one with members. Our goal is for her to help members learn to better regulate themselves and their behaviors, to work to help members navigate their interactions with others, to build their capacity for psychological resiliency, and to help them advocate for themselves in challenging situations.

“We are grateful to the Bethany Legacy Foundation for underwriting this important position for three years and for helping us add this critical layer of support for our girls.”

“We noticed post-COVID that our members were struggling more than ever before, to the point that we knew we needed to have a mental health professional on staff,” explains Executive Director Susan Stahl.

After graduating from Hanover College (She worked as program staff for our affiliate while she was at Hanover!), Megan received her masters in social work. She is also a licensed social worker.

It’s a big job but Megan is up to the challenge: “I am honored to have been chosen as the new Mental Health Advocate for Girls Inc. of Jefferson County. This role will allow me to be a part of an amazing program that provides opportunities for girls to learn and grow. I look forward to interacting and supporting both girls and staff on a daily basis while also promoting mental health in a positive way.”

EXPANDING OUR REACH

OUR PARTNERSHIP with the Cummins Foundation helped us grow Girls Inc. To Go in Jefferson County for the 2023-24 school year. The program has continued to expand to be in 10 area schools with 150 girls registered for the 2024-25 school year!

Our summer program at the Switzerland County YMCA included 67 girls.

The Community Foundation of Switzerland County continues to be a strong funding partner and advocate as we strive to serve more girls in Switzerland County. Our summer program at the Switzerland County YMCA served 35 girls this year, Girls Inc. To Go Switzerland County has just begun for the 2024-25 school year, and we are now implementing programming during Excel After the Bell at both Jeff-Craig and Switzerland County elementary schools!

And as if that isn’t enough, we have recently headed across the river to Trimble County, KY where we have added Bedford and Milton elementary schools to our To Go family!

Champions for Girls

Affiliate of the Year

WE ARE SO PROUD to announce our national organization has named us Affiliate of the Year in the small budget category! This is an honor that is truly a joint effort involving contributions by administration, programming staff, the board of directors, and our girls themselves.

Among other criteria, scoring is based on revenue growth, the affiliate’s engagement with the Girls Inc. network, the number of girls served and increase in number of girls served, and the engagement of our Board of Directors.

girls inc. champions for girls are generous philanthropists who are dedicated to inspiring girls to be strong, smart, and bold. With a donation of $1,000 or more, they provide invaluable support, allowing us to help build a new generation of leaders as we achieve our vision of powerful girls in an equitable society.
