What an exciting time to be a part of Girl Scouting!

It’s the perfect time to invite a friend to experience Girl Scouting alongside you, so let’s get started! Throughout this edition you will see fun, educational events offered to Girl Scouts of all levels and learn how you may broaden your Girl Scout experience and lend your voice.

Revolutionize Engagement, Expand Ways to Experience Girl Scouting, and Securing Tomorrow. These concepts are coming to life through the updated Girl Scout strategic plan. I invite Girl Scouts of all ages to step up in support of our Girl Scout sisters. Stepping up – as a valued volunteer with the council, to donate financially in support the properties (including Little Houses in Parsons, Newton and Augusta) and programs at the heart of Girl Scouting, to share your voice and leadership through participation, and to invite others to be a part of the amazing Girl Scout organization which has made a difference in our lives. Current opportunities: member and volunteer recruitment, focus groups, Troop volunteers, Service Unit volunteers, Board Development Committee, Board of Directors, Alumni engagement, Board committees, Daisy Circle, Juliette Gordon Low Society, and more. The 58th National Council Session (NCS) convenes in July 2026. Council membership listening sessions will be held the evenings of May 14 and May 18 to gather your input on the proposals, please watch for the April edition of Blazing Trails for virtual event details. Allison from Troop 41106, Patty Dengler, Jeff Janssen, Peggy Bearth, Sharon Bastian, Patty Zies, and Jen Ashcraft join me in representing our council. We are here to gather your input and answer your questions.

The agenda includes three proposals:

▶ Highest Awards Solicitation of Contributions (expand from Gold Award to allow Bronze and Silver Award levels solicitations)

▶ Membership Dues & Procedures for Registration (allowing the National Board to increase dues by no more than 15% in any one triennium, instead of the current 25%)

▶ Preservation of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience Relating to the Entrepreneurship Program (eliminate GSUSA licensed food product availability during the cookie/fall program)

Program Credit earners who will receive their Program Credits on April 15 can still select “Program Credits” as payment when renewing by May 1 to be eligible for the t-shirt incentive. Credits will be applied to your renewal balance once the new credits are uploaded to your Campwise account.

Get ready for an unforgettable overnight adventure! Midnight Madness: A Night at the Museum hosted by the Kansas Aviation Museum, where Girl Scouts will explore historic aircraft, dive into hands-on STEAM and aviation activities, and experience the museum after dark! Girls will play games, make crafts, watch movies and have an epic, high-flying adventure filled with fun, friends and excitement! Fun patch provided.

Gold Award Girl Scouts 2025 Class

The Gold Award is earned by girls in grades 9–12 who demonstrate extraordinary leadership in developing sustainable solutions to local, national and global challenges. Since 1916, Girl Scouts have answered the call to drive lasting, impactful change.

Adele LaForge

Passionate about wildlife conservation, Adele LaForge focused her Girl Scout Gold Award project on protecting the American Kestrel, the smallest falcon in North America. Her project, “Teeto’s Towers,” aimed to support local Kestrel populations while educating the community about the challenges these birds face.

Partnering with the Great Plains Nature Center, Adele designed and installed Kestrel nesting boxes to provide safe places for the birds to raise their young. Habitat loss has made it harder for Kestrels to find suitable nesting areas, and these houses help restore important breeding spaces.

Adele also created and printed 200 educational brochures about American Kestrels and their role in the ecosystem. At the Nature Center’s “Walk with Wildlife” event, she spoke with more than 300 visitors and distributed about 100 brochures, helping families and children learn about Kestrels and their importance.

Adele’s dedication to her project resulted in nesting habitats, that will last up to 20 years, being available for future generations of Kestrels.

Campbell Schober

Campbell Schober focused her Girl Scout Gold Award project on protecting wild bees and educating the community about their importance. Her project, “Wild Bee Habitats,” addressed the global decline in bee populations, which threatens pollination and food production. By raising awareness, Campbell encouraged people to take simple actions to support these vital pollinators.

Campbell created presentations and hands-on demonstrations teaching people how to build mason bee habitats. She led workshops with elementary school students, adults in her church, and members of the community. In total, she taught more than 100 participants how to construct bee habitats while sharing ways to reduce pesticide use and protect bee habitats.

To extend the project’s impact, Campbell created an instructional video and shared it online so others could learn how to build bee habitats and help pollinators in their own communities. She also taught international students studying in Wichita, allowing the project’s impact to spread beyond the local community.

In recognition of her outstanding work, Campbell was the 2025 recipient of the $5,000 Girl Scouts of the USA National Gold Award Scholarship.

Grace Kallman

Seeing how difficult it was for students and families to find important information about orchestra activities, Grace Kallman created her Girl Scout Gold Award project, “Eisenhower Orchestra Communication Revamp.” Grace noticed that the Tigers in Harmony Boosters Club website for Eisenhower orchestras was disorganized, contained outdated information, and sometimes caused students and parents to miss important announcements or performance dates.

To address this issue, Grace reorganized and redesigned the website to make it easier to navigate and keep updated. She also created welcome sheets and materials outlining class expectations and performance dates. She recruited her bandmates to assist her in producing instructional videos to help students with skills like tuning instruments and involved them in testing the functionality of the new website. Impressed with the functionality of the redesigned website, the band director agreed to create a student webmaster position within the band who will maintain the website using the troubleshooting guides that Grace developed.

Through her project, Grace helped improve communication within the orchestra program, allowing teachers to spend more class time making music while helping students and families stay informed and engaged.

Lexi Foos

Inspired by her love of singing and performing, Lexi Foos created a Girl Scout Gold Award project that brought children back to the center of church life. Lexi organized and directed a Children’s Christmas Program at Trinity Lutheran Church in Salina, Kansas to help re-energize youth involvement and create a welcoming environment where kids could feel they belonged.

Throughout her project, Lexi spent time planning the program, recruiting volunteers, writing the script, coordinating costumes and music, and leading rehearsals with the children. She also helped promote the program by having participants walk in Salina’s Parade of Lights and hand out invitations to the community.

The Christmas Eve performance drew a large audience and was livestreamed so friends and family could watch from anywhere. Through the experience, the children built confidence in public speaking, learned teamwork and commitment, and formed lasting friendships that strengthened youth engagement and community connection within her church.

Lexi ensured success for future program directors by creating a manual for them to follow as they plan and implement the next Christmas program.

Gold Award Girl Scouts don’t just change the world for the better, they change it for good.

Bridge to the next Girl Scout level in a big way, over the Arkansas River at the Keeper of the Plains! Celebrate the achievements of your troop and fellow Girl Scout sisters throughout Kansas Heartland at this free, council-wide ceremony. There will be plenty of fun for the whole troop and family: make a bridging SWAP to add to your collection and bring homemade SWAPs to exchange with fellow Girl Scouts in the Make New Friends area, try out our adventure zone, and more! Check in and activities begin at 10:30 a.m. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. Fun patch provided.

Hey, Girl Scouts!

Join us for a summer filled with tons of “Younique” experiences where you can solve a mystery, unleash a little mayhem, adventure across America, sing, dance and showcase your talent, or color a little outside the lines.

In 2026, we’re hosting 12 camp sessions at Starwoods Girl Scout Center, 6 camp sessions at venues across the state, a day excursion to Tulsa, and a multi-day adventure to Arkansas to go rock climbing at Horseshoe Bend. Council-

hosted summer sessions opened for registration on February 2 with a $25 deposit. The deposit period continues through April 14, with remaining balances due May 1.

This edition of #Sisterhood also includes all the details on volunteer-hosted and partner-hosted camps and events, which will open for registration at noon on April 20.

Registration & Program Credits

Most events and all summer camps utilize Campwise for registration. Scan the QR code to access your family account. You likely already have an account – try the email address you use for other Girl Scout information. If not, you can create a new account by following the instructions on the Campwise site.

Campwise walks you through the registration process step-by-step, including information for the camper, guardian, and emergency contacts, session options, authorization and health forms, allergies, and medications. Campwise remembers your information from year to year, so if you’ve attended sessions before, be sure to check answers to completed forms to update anything that has changed. Be sure to check the Forms section in Campwise, where you can immediately download the camper packet that gives you all the information you need to be prepared for camp! This packet provides details on check in/out procedures, gear list, preparing medications for check in, and so much more!

If your Girl Scout has earned Program Credits, you can choose if and when to utilize them for payment. Program Credits earned during the 2026 Cookie Program will be available in Campwise on April 15.

Important Dates

Last day for early pricing and $25 deposit. After April 14, prices increase $5-25.

Refund Policy

You may cancel your reservation for an event or summer camp and receive a full refund, minus any deposit, if the request is received more than 14 days prior to the start of the session. Limited refunds will be given within 14 days of the program; see full refund policy on our website and in the Forms section of Campwise for specific refund scenarios. No refund is given if the camper is a no show or leaves a session early. Additionally, t-shirt or other optional purchases will not be refunded and travel may have an earlier refund date.

Financial Assistance

We never want finances to get in the way of having an amazing Girl Scout summer!

Camperships are available!

Scan the QR code to access the application. If you will travel more than 125 miles to attend a camp session, you may request funds through the campership program to assist with fuel costs.

Starwoods Camp Store

The Camp Store (previously known as Trading Post) is a small Girl Scout retail shop located at Starwoods Girl Scout Center that contains items for sale, ranging in price from $0.50 to $25, including camp gear, t-shirts, and snacks. Campers at Starwoods sessions will have one opportunity to visit the Camp Store during their session. The Snack Shack contains items for sale, ranging in price from $0.50 to $2, including snow cones, popcorn, ice cream, candy bars, chips, and drinks. Overnight campers have the opportunity to visit the Snack Shack during free time on each full day of a the camp session (usually Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday).

Streamline the check-in process by adding funds to your camper’s Camp Store balance during registration! Cash will also be accepted at checkin for sleepaway sessions and at Monday’s checkin for day camp. Parents/Guardians can monitor Camp Store balance and items purchased via Campwise. Unspent Camp Store funds are forwarded to a future camp session or refunded as Program Credits by the end of the summer camp season.

Level Up!

Campers level up for events and camps on May 15, so plan to attend spring sessions for your current grade, and sessions that begin on or after May 15 as the grade you will be going into next fall!

Four-Day Camps

Four-Day Sessions at Starwoods Girl Scout Center

Youth Cost: $175 until April 14, then $190

Food: Bring a sack lunch daily; snacks provided

For novice campers who prefer a day-only experience, Starwoods day camps are Monday though Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with check-in as early as 8:30 a.m and pick-up as late as 5:30 p.m. Campers may choose to ride the bus from the Wichita office to Starwoods each day; this is a great option for east side families or caregivers who need an earlier drop-off time. Bus check-in at the office begins at 7:45 a.m. and the bus returns at 5:15 p.m. for pick-up by 5:30 p.m.

Day campers will participate in a variety of activities depending on their age including swimming, target sports, climbing, team building, and boating. They will also complete crafts, games, and activities related to that session’s theme and badgework.

Who doesn’t love a slumber party?! Day campers who are entering 2nd grade or older can extend the fun by adding a Wednesday night indoor “glamping” experience to their camp session for an additional $35.

About Starwoods Girl Scout Center

This sprawling 160-acre camp near Clearwater encompasses a multitude of indoor and outdoor experiences. Campers can enjoy swimming in Wattles Lake, arts and crafts, team-building courses, and hiking along the Chisholm Trail.

Sleepaway Camps

Sleepaway Sessions at Starwoods Girl Scout Center

Youth Cost: $300 until April 14, then $325 (4 night) or $175 until April 14, then $190 (2 night)

Food: Eat dinner before arrival, then we’ll provide snacks and meals from day 2 breakfast through last day lunch.

Sleeping options: Sleepaway campers at Starwoods will stay in cabins with Girl Scouts of similar ages, adult counselors, and junior counselors.

Is your camper ready to eat, sleep, and live the camp life for multiple days? Four night sleepaway camps run from Sunday at 6:30 p.m. to Thursday at 6 p.m., with check-in and pick-up within 30 minutes before or after. Not quite ready for the full week experience? Try our two night session from Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. to Thursday at 6 p.m. instead!

Campers will participate in activities that will help them build life and outdoor skills depending on their age including swimming, boating, target sports, or high adventure. They will also complete crafts, games, and activities related to that session’s theme and badgework.

At this fun day camp Girl Scouts will dive into what makes them one-of-a-kind! Through laughter-filled games, hands-on crafts, and creative challenges, campers will celebrate their amazing bodies and all the cool things they can do. From dancing like nobody’s watching to decorating “I’m awesome!” mirrors and swapping high-fives in our compliment circle, girls will learn to focus on fun, strength, kindness, and confidence—not just looks. It’s all about standing out, shining bright and being true to yourself!

Depending on the amenities at the venue, your experience may also include team building, swimming, or target sports.

These sessions run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with check-in as early at 9:30 a.m. Adult chaperones are welcome but not required.

One-Night You & Me Camps

Food: Eat lunch before arrival, then we'll provide snacks, Saturday dinner, and Sunday breakfast.

Hey, campers: Bring your favorite grown up to camp and show them all the best parts of camp life! You & Me sessions are a great option for troops or families who would like to camp together. If attending as a troop, at least two volunteers must register and attend to meet adult-to-youth camping ratios for their group. If attending as a family; one caregiver must register and attend as chaperone. The session begins at 1 p.m., with check-in as early as 12:30 p.m. and ends at 10 a.m. the next morning.

Get ready to splash, spin, and sparkle at Color Me Wild! Girl Scouts will dive into a world of vibrant colors, wild patterns, and nature-inspired creativity. From painting rocks and decorating bandannas to exploring the outdoors with colorthemed scavenger hunts, campers will celebrate self-expression, imagination, and the beauty of the natural world. It’s a hands-on, messy, fun-filled adventure where every girl can shine in her own unique way!

About Camp Double E

This 8.3-acre camp on the Neosho River, just northwest of Emporia, has two shelter houses, a gazebo, hiking trails, and offers a variety of sporting options including an archery range. It’s a great location for first-time campers.

Leadership Opportunities for 2026

This year, campers will a couple great ways to build confidence, gain hands-on experience, and grow as leaders in our supportive camp community. We will continue to offer opportunities to rising 8th through 12th graders in our Counselor-in-Training program. For those more experienced teens we will also be offering paid opportunities as Junior Counselors rising 12th graders or recent graduates, ages 16-18 years.

Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Positions

Rising 8th through 12th graders

Are you ready to transition from being a camper to helping out at camp? Open to 8th–12th graders, our CIT program helps teens develop essential leadership and teamwork skills while learning what it takes to support younger campers. Training takes place Friday, June 5, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Then you can opt to come -and-go each day of the session from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30p.m. or stay the full week from Sunday at 3 p.m. to Thursday 6:30 p.m. and participate in additional leadership sessions and/or camp activities each evening. Cost: $30 for day camp option, $125 for sleepaway option (if registered before May 15, camper t-shirt included)). Your CIT experience may also qualify you to earn your CIT I or II

Rising 12th graders or recent graduates, age 16-18

For experienced teens, we’re pleased to offer paid Junior Counselor opportunities. For rising 12th graders who are ages 16–18 years old, who have previous Counselor-in-Training experience are eligible to apply, interview and be hired as a Junior Counselor for two to five week long camp sessions. These roles provide real responsibility, mentorship, and the chance to make a meaningful impact at camp.

CIT Orientation prepares participants for their leadership role at camp. CITs learn about the camp’s mission, their responsibilities, and expectations as positive role models for younger campers. The training covers basic safety procedures, supervision guidelines, teamwork, communication skills, and behavior management strategies. Through team-building activities and practice scenarios, CITs gain confidence and feel prepared to help create a safe, supportive, and fun camp environment. Heartland Essentials prepares new troop leaders for the next step in their leadership experience. You’ll discover best practices for managing your troop and navigating the possibilities that are available for your Girl Scouts to experience. We will cover the policies, procedures, and guidelines that are specific to Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland. Answer questions such as: What is a troop meeting supposed to look like? How do I set up a checking account? How do I plan a field trip for my troop? Heartland Essentials is required within 3 months of starting your leadership role.

The Scoop is an interactive web-based presentation is open to all volunteers and features updates that are pertinent to the work you do. Get the scoop on upcoming program opportunities and adult training; be in the know for all things product program, retail shop, and membership; and connect with fellow volunteers for pro tips and advice. First Aid, CPR, & AED, an American Safety & Health Institute blended course, includes an at-home study portion and an in-person class where you will practice important lifesaving skills. Participants must be physically able to perform the basic skills required for CPR. If you demonstrate achievement of the required knowledge and hands-on skills, you will receive a certification card valid for two years. Approximately two weeks prior to your in-person course, you will receive an email with instructions for the at-home study portion. No refunds will be issued once that email is sent. Cost: $30

Outdoor Leadership teaches volunteers how to facilitate adventures on the outdoor progression for their troop or event. During this hand-on skills course, you’ll practice and master the skills you need for both cabin and tent camping. Topics include: knots, knife safety, outdoor cooking methods, 3-pan dishwashing, fire building, health and safety procedures, and Leave No Trace. Prerequisites: Outdoor Leadership Learning Path in gsLearn (including “Troop Safety” and “Field Trips and Travel” courses).

IGNITE: The Great Escape This immersive weekend retreat is designed to empower volunteers through education, skill-building, and personal development. Inspired by the idea of breaking free from limitations, this weekend will encourage participants to escape self-doubt, unlock their potential, and discover innovative ways to inspire and lead the youth we serve. The weekend will blend engaging workshops, interactive activities, and networking opportunities in a fun, adventurous camp atmosphere that mirrors the daring spirit of an escape mission.

Small Craft Safety (Canoeing and Kayaking) is the current Safety Activity Checkpoints requirement to facilitate a canoeing or kayaking experience for girls. A pre-requisite course in gsLearn: GSUSA Small Craft Safety Training is required. In this course, you will learn skills for basic water rescue and small craft. During the 3-hour hands-on course, you will practice and demonstrate your skills. Note that this is a safety and rescue course, not a skills class; participants should be familiar with basic canoeing and kayaking skills before arrival. Participants must be able to pass a swim test and all rescue techniques.

Archery: The USA Archery Level 1 Instructor certification course provides graduates the necessary tools to maintain a high level of safety both on and off the archery range for camps and beginner archery programs. To successfully complete the requirements for this certification, students must successfully pass the USA Archery Level 1 Instructor Certification online course, including the online exam. They will then register for and complete an "in-person" USA Archery Level 1 Instructor practical course. Upon completion, participant will receive a USA Archery Level 1 Instructor certificate. The USA Archery Level 1 Instructor will learn about range safety, range setup, the steps of shooting, equipment and repair, programs and lesson plans and is well prepared to teach beginner archery programs to people of all ages and abilities in a variety of disciplines. Approximately two weeks before the in-person course, you will receive information on how to acquire the online portion, pay the $40 fee directly to USA Archery and register for the in-person course.

Collaborate with a council staff member and a local training facilitator to determine the best date and venue for your community and help us to promote the opportunity to ensure we meet minimum class size requirements.
