When Service-connected families arrive in our region, we are committed to creating an exceptional Girl Scout experience. Here are just a few of the ways our Salute to Service program supports Service-connected families:
Salute to Service Advisory Board, providing opportunities for direct input into Council policies and programs Council-to-council transfer support, helping incoming youth make immediate friendships and connections Volunteer opportunities, through partnerships with local military bases and service-connected nonprofits Celebrating and raising awareness of service careers
Since 1974, the Congressional Aide program has built teens’ civic knowledge and professional skills while inspiring a lifelong commitment to public service. Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital works with participating offices to give as many Girl Scouts as possible the opportunity to work with and learn from members of Congress and their staff.

The all-volunteer Council History Committee preserves and protects documents and materials that reflect the history of Girl Scouts Nation's Capital and creates exhibits and workshops that help today’s Girl Scout’s appreciate our rich past.
Council Historians have work sessions every Thursday at the History Center, 11am-3pm. Open Houses are held the first Sunday each month (1-4pm). Volunteers may also work on short-term projects as needed. The History Center also provides a loving home for any leftover badges, uniforms, cookie prizes, and other future treasures or more. The National Girl Scout Convention is coming to Washington, D.C., July 20–25, 2026, and GSCNC is proud to help host this historic celebration! The week includes the 58th National Council Session, where delegates shape the future of Girl Scouting, and GS Unite, a dynamic conference with inspiring speakers, interactive workshops, and the theme “Girls Make History.” Locally, we’ll host special activations at Sisterhood* Central (GSCNC Headquarters), Franklin Square Park, and in communities across the area. Members may rent camping equipment, flags, ceremonial bridges, and program kits through the equipment center. To support accessibility, the equipment center currently offers wheelchair rickshaws and wheelchairaccessible tents. We welcome your requests or recommendations for additional equipment that would help all Girl Scouts participate fully in our programs.

We are excited to announce the launch of a publication revision Jotform. This Jotform invites members to help ensure the consistent use of inclusive language and accurate, up-to-date information across council web pages, publications, forms, trainings, and other materials. Your submissions help us identify materials that may be outdated, inaccurate, or no longer in use so they can be reviewed and updated.
All submissions are added to a review queue for correction. While some updates may take time, please know that your feedback is valued and will be addressed as soon as possible. Teen Mental Health First Aid is a certification designed for Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts, age 14 and up. High school is a time of critical change and development. It’s when symptoms of mental health challenges may escalate and cause falling grades, problems with close relationships, and substance use.
Held in six 45-minute virtual sessions with independent coursework in between, this certification course gives teens the skills to have supportive conversations with their friends and teaches them how and when to get help from a responsible and trusted adult. Topics include how to open conversations about mental health and substance use challenges, recognizing common signs and symptoms, and understanding the impact of school violence and bullying on mental wellbeing.
Dates: 1/26, 2/2, 2/9, 2/16, 2/23, & 3/2
Time: 6:30 p.m. -7:15 p.m.
Fee: $20 includes workbook
Location: Virtual with coursework in between sessions
Participants must be able to attend all sessions (Virtual/Independent) to be certified.

Sleep away camp registration includes an early camper placement process (lottery) conducted through JotForm from December 15, 2025, through January 5, 2026. Campers placed through this process may register for programs prior to the January 20, 2026, general registration opening.
Beginning January 20, sleep away camp registration will be available on a firstcome, first-served basis. A $25 deposit is required at the time of registration.




Day and evening camp registration timelines vary by camp. All day and evening camp registration will be completed through Doubleknot. Please refer to the program guide for specific camp details.

Challenge Mode: New this spring, weekend programs now include challenge mode experiences! Designed with older Girl Scouts in mind, these Cadette and above programs offer opportunities to explore outdoor education in a more advanced setting. The Silver Trefoil Award is unique to Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital. The award honors Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors who make the world a better place through service in three categories: Girl Scout Community, National, and Global
The Bronze Award is the highest award a Girl Scout Junior (grades 4-5) can earn They can work with their troop, in a small group or as an individual to earn their Bronze Award once they have completed a Junior Journey.
Gold Award Girl Scouts have earned the highest award a Girl Scout Senior (grades 9-10) or Ambassador (grade 11-12) can earn. A Girl Scout earns this award as an individual once they have completed two Senior/Ambassador Journeys OR have earned the Silver Award and completed one Senior/Ambassador Journey. Girl Scouts track their progress using GSUSA’s GoGold Platform and work with our local Gold Award Support Team.


This award is earned by completing three Journeys for your Girl Scout level.

Bridging Girl Scouts earn this award by completing two steps: (1) Pass It On to share what they’ve learned with younger Girl Scouts and (2) Look Ahead to learn from older Girl Scouts about their next Girl Scout level.


Silver Award Girl Scouts have earned the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette (grades 6-8) can earn. A Girl Scout can work with their troop/group (a maximum of 3 per project is suggested) or as an individual to earn their Silver Award once they have completed a Cadette Journey.

This award is earned by completing three Journeys for your Girl Scout level

Girl Scouts of all levels can earn one award each year as they explore the connection between Girl Scouts and their faith.
This Lifesaving Awar is given to a Girl Scout who has shown extraordinary heroism or risked their life to save another’s.

This Lifesaving Award is given to a Girl Scout who has saved someone’s life in an emergency.

Program Kits are fun, age-appropriate resources and are available for varied subjects such as STEM, Journeys, the environment, teamwork, and healthy living Each kit is designed to serve a troop of 10-16 Girl Scouts, but can be modified to accommodate larger groups Nation’s Capital program kits are available to borrow at minimal cost to leaders and can be delivered to any Council office for pickup (some are free). Girl Scout Patch Programs offer youth opportunities to participate in special events where they can learn new skills, network, and have fun through programs hosted by Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital and our partners. Patches may recognize troop activities or the completion of programs unique to Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital.

The Nation’s Capital “Explore Camp” Patch Program encourages Girl Scouts to get outdoors and take part in Girl Scout traditions while discovering the unique features of each of the eight camp properties They will hone their eight basic outdoor skills which helps improve their nature connectedness, outdoor literacy and support positive and environmentally conscientious experiences.

The purpose of the Endangered Species Patch Program is to allow Girl Scouts to take an active role to better understand the biodiversity of our environment. They will learn about the Endangered Species Act of 1973, connect with local organizations concerning local & global species that need to be protected, and get involved with local projects that focus on environmental stewardship.


The Food Allergy Awareness Patch Program gives Girl Scouts the opportunity to learn about life with food allergy, with an emphasis on raising awareness of the public health issue, which impacts 33 million children and adults in the United States.

Peirce Mill Tea House: A W History Month Celebrat
This free, family-friendly event celebrates entrepreneurs who operated the Peirce Mil the early 20th century. Visitors will learn a women who managed the tea house and ex houses served as important social spaces c broader struggle for women’s rights.
At the nearby barn, guests can also view a about Hattie Sewell, who managed the Peir House from 1920 to 1921.

During this program, the Girl Scouts have been invited as the student guests during the UDC Spring Open House. The program will be structured as a rotational, hands-on STEM experience aligned with the D/B/J STEM Career Exploration Badge, with representation from areas such as agriculture, sustainability, health, nutrition, architecture, and environmental sciences. K-5 Girl Scouts will learn from and engage with the University of Maryland’s E-Sport Team (the E-Terps). Girl Scouts will rotate stations with the team members and try out all the different aspects of gaming, such as graphic design, videography, communication, teamwork, etc. This program is special not only because Girl Scouts will get to see the behind-the-scenes of what being on a D-1 Gaming Team can look like, but because they will have the opportunity to experience it through hands-on learning!

Join your troop and take over a Mystics game as the Mystics play against the Los Angeles Sparks at the CareFirst Arena in Washington, DC! Girl Scouts will enjoy fun activities, receive an exclusive 2025 patch, and get to watch an exciting halftime show. Plus, groups of 25+ can participate in special fan experiences like Game Ball Delivery, Postgame On-Court Photos, and Postgame On-Court Free Throws.

During this program, K-5 Girl Scouts will engage in high-quality art stations, including but not limited to visual, digital, and performing art experiences. These stations will be led by artists who teach youth art education at SITAR Arts Center, and the center will be closed to the public. Normally, youth who visit SITAR Arts may only engage in one form of art during their program. During this program, we will have a “Girl Scout Takeover” and engage in multiple art forms while working with professional artists!

Maintains our eight camps and high adventure activities and ensures every child has the chance to enjoy the outdoors.
