2025 was an extraordinary year, defined by bold adventures, meaningful milestones, and inspiring growth. Camps Juniper Knoll, Greene Wood, and Butternut Springs earned American Camp Association accreditation this year, proving their commitment to safety and excellence. We also launched Social Inclusion Week, creating space for meaningful connection and learning across our community. In addition, we amplified girls’ voices through Girl Scouts Unfiltered: GCNWI, a podcast created and led by girls. Together, these moments strengthened and supported our community in powerful ways.

Throughout the year, we witnessed countless stories of girls reaching new heights and becoming stronger together. And now, through the Girl Coalition of Indiana and in collaboration with our community partners, even more girls are being given opportunities to shine.

Stronger Together celebrates the power of connection and the shared values that unite us in purpose. Our purpose is clear: to help every girl find her voice, build confidence, and lead with courage and compassion.

When we invest in girls, we strengthen entire communities. Every experience, from earning a badge to leading a service project, helps girls grow into resilient, confident leaders who will shape a brighter future for us all.

A Strong and Growing Community

During the 2025 membership year, Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana continued to thrive, connecting 31,916 girls and 16,979 adult members through meaningful, girl-led experiences. Across 2,901 active troops, our members explored, learned, and led in six Illinois counties—Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kankakee, Lake, and Will—and four Indiana counties—Jasper, Lake, Newton, and Porter. Together, they formed a vibrant, region-wide community rooted in leadership, friendship, and fun.

A Campaign That Brought the Fun

One of the year’s highlights was our Spring Renewal Campaign, which infused early renewal with creativity and excitement. Members who renewed early received a special bundle featuring a Girl Scout T-shirt and commemorative patch. With more than 7,000 T-shirts distributed, our members became thousands of “walking billboards,” proudly showcasing their Girl Scout spirit and building momentum across the council.

Troops that went the extra mile—achieving 80% renewal or higher—were rewarded with a tiedye kit, adding an extra splash of creativity and giving girls a fun, hands-on way to personalize their shirts and celebrate their Girl Scout pride.

Girl Scout Voices

When Girls Lead with Their Voices, People Listen

Girl Scouts don’t just participate—they lead. This year, our Girl Scout Representatives to the Board elevated girl voice in bold new ways with the launch of Girl Scouts Unfiltered: GCNWI, a youth-led podcast where Girl Scouts take the mic and take on the topics that matter most to them.

Launched on March 12, Girl Scouts Unfiltered: GCNWI, now features six episodes of real conversations on mental health, relationships, friendship dynamics, and what it truly feels like to grow up as a Girl Scout today. Their approach is honest, thoughtful, and refreshingly unfiltered—showing listeners what happens when girls define the narrative themselves.

Girl Scout Reps brought that leadership into the spotlight at the Leadership Summit in Chicago, where they interviewed CEOs from Girl Scout councils across the country. Their bold questions sparked meaningful dialogue about the future of Girl Scouting—and reminded everyone in the room what it looks like when young leaders shape the conversation.

The impact of their work is already expanding. After hearing about the podcast at our Tribute to Achievement dinner, BMO invited our Girl Scout Reps to speak at a Women in Wealth event, giving them a platform to share their insights with industry leaders.

Through this podcast, their voices aren’t just being heard—they’re being amplified. This is what leadership looks like: confident, curious, and completely unfiltered.

As GSGCNWI prepares for the fourth and final year of its innovation grant from The Lilly Endowment, learnings from the first three years are shaping the implementation of several new prototypes that will be completed by Sept. 30, 2026.

Exploring the theme of “relatable content,” one prototype aligns teen girls in eighth grade to an eightmodule entrepreneurial experience co-designed by girls and four Gary, Indiana, area women business owners. This prototype explores how to shape and deliver future-focused, girl-inspired programming that is available and accessible for all.

The second eight-module prototype builds on the concept of relatable content and links opportunities for elementary school-aged girls near Gary to explore mindfulness, body appreciation, nutrition, and more by connecting them to community resources and other organizations.

Both prototypes, as well as innovations in inclusion, access to mental wellness resources, and financial sustainability will provide the council will opportunities to test and shape its future offerings for girls and families with respect to changing interests, shifting community needs, and community involvement.

Philanthropic Highlights

A Night to Embrace Possibilities

On April 2, we celebrated Girl Scouts’ incredible impact— and the supporters who make it all possible—at our annual Tribute to Achievement dinner. Together, we raised more than $885,000 in support of local Girl Scouts!

One of the most memorable moments came when Jen Guidi accepted the Corporate Award on behalf of BMO and held up her childhood Girl Scout vest. It was a powerful reminder that the confidence and values girls gain in Girl Scouts last a lifetime.

Jennifer Maresso of the Landgraf Family Foundation brought the magic of camp to life, inviting everyone to “think of the girls joined around the final fire at camp… their friendship and memories alive.” Jamyriah Scott, a Gold Award Girl Scout and student at the University of Illinois, shared how Girl Scouts helped her find her voice.

Going Above and Beyond

We welcomed seven new members to the 1912 Society, a group of generous donors who have donated $50,000 or more to the council. We celebrated all members at a reception on November 12. Starting with 40 members in 2023, we have grown to 51 members. We are grateful to the Landgraf Family Foundation for sponsoring this initiative! Please see page 15 for a listing of all 1912 Society members.

Community Engagement

Reaching Every Girl, Everywhere

At Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana, we believe opportunity should never depend on a family’s income, zip code, or circumstances. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, thousands of girls experienced the joy and power of Girl Scouting this year—many for the first time.

In FY25, financial assistance requests rose sharply as families continued to navigate higher costs of living. We responded with compassion and commitment, providing $270,174 in financial assistance so that no girl would be turned away. This included $169,175 in membership dues supporting 6,767 Girl Scouts, and $100,999 toward troop dues, uniforms, program fees, and camp—meeting 1,125 requests. Behind each number is a girl who got to join her friends at a troop meeting, wear her first sash, or experience the magic of camp.

Our Girl Scouts in Foster Care Program reached 200 girls through partnerships with Lydia Home (Chicago and Evanston), Hephzibah House, and One Family Illinois. These programs provide consistency, caring adults, and joyful experiences during times of transition.

This year, girls participated in troop meetings, outdoor activities, and councilwide events that helped them build confidence and community.

We also brought Girl Scouting to young patients through our partnership with Lurie Children’s Hospital, visiting three locations and providing moments of inclusion—earning badges, creating art, or simply connecting with volunteers. This outreach positively impacted about 600 individuals, offering comfort and normalcy during hospitalization.

Our Community Troop Experience (CTE) continued breaking down barriers by bringing Girl Scouting directly into schools and community centers. This year, CTE supported 1,143 girls in 82 troops across our region. One of the most joyful highlights was a CTE overnight at Camp Butternut Springs, where 34 Girl Scouts—from Brownies to older girls—spent the night away from home for the very first time. For many, it was a milestone moment. Girls from different neighborhoods and backgrounds came together, tried new activities like the rock wall, zipline, hiking, archery, and crafting, and by the end of the weekend, many had exchanged phone numbers to stay in touch. Staff shared that the girls left with “smiles, memories, and a stronger connection to the sisterhood of Girl Scouts,” already excited for their next adventure.

Across Chicago and Northwest Indiana, your support ensured that every girl—no matter her story—had a place to explore, grow, and belong. Together, we are building a council where every Girl Scout can see herself as a leader.

Camp and Outdoor Programs

Outdoor experiences remain at the heart of Girl Scouting, offering girls the chance to explore nature, challenge themselves, and discover their own strengths. In FY25, thousands of Girl Scouts embraced adventure across our four camp properties—Greene Wood, Palos, Juniper Knoll, and Butternut Springs. A total of 2,148 girls participated in 179 day and resident camp sessions, from first-time overnights to immersive two-week experiences. Beyond summer camp, our year-round outdoor workshops and custom programs brought hands-on learning to communities across our council, engaging 6,688 girls and 1,216 adults.

This year, we deepened our commitment to supporting the whole girl. Camp can be joyful and transformational, but it can also bring big emotions, especially for younger campers or those new to overnight experiences. Our behavioral and wellness specialist provided individualized support to help girls navigate homesickness, social dynamics, and personal challenges, ensuring every camper felt safe,

seen, and able to succeed. Thanks to a GSUSA C4 Workforce Development Grant, we also expanded opportunities for seasonal staff who identify as part of underrepresented populations. These team members gained valuable work experience and mentorship while serving as relatable role models for the girls in their care.

Access remained a priority across all camp programs. Nearly 100 girls from residential foster care settings enjoyed overnight experiences at Camp Butternut Springs and other outdoor programs this year. For many, camp offered rare moments of stability, friendship, and the simple joy of being a kid outdoors—reminders of why these spaces matter. Across all our camps, girls built confidence, community, and a lifelong connection to the natural world.

Camp Property Enhancements

Across our council, investment in safe, sustainable, and inspiring spaces remained a central focus. In 2025, we pursued and received American Camp Association accreditation at all three of our core camp properties. Successfully passing these visits represents the most significant milestone, affirming our commitment to excellence in safety, staffing, and program quality.

We continued to enhance facilities at both camps and Gathering Places to strengthen the experience for girls, families, and volunteers. Automated External Defibrillators were installed at every property, with staff training underway to ensure readiness in emergencies. Camps also saw major improvements: Camp Juniper Knoll added a new floating dock, Camp Greene Wood received key infrastructure upgrades including new culverts and pavilion stairs, and Camp Butternut Springs completed several enhancements such as pool deck improvements, updated kitchen facilities, and the full renovation of Becky Lodge—a transformation widely praised for its beauty, accessibility, and functionality.

Our long-term planning at Camp Butternut Springs advanced significantly this year through a Phase 1 Lilly Endowment Planning Grant, which supported a comprehensive ADA assessment and a detailed capital improvement plan. We have now applied for Phase 2 implementation funding with goals to modernize electrical infrastructure, establish a dedicated health center, expand accessibility, and enhance program spaces. This work is shaped by community input and driven by a commitment to ensuring that every girl can fully participate in the outdoor experience.

Entrepreneurship

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, U.S. Bank partnered with the Girl Scouts to host a series of engaging events focused on empowering young minds with financial literacy skills.

The kickoff event on October 10 at Chicago Academy Elementary saw nearly 40 Girl Scouts participate in a hands-on workshop led by 20 volunteers from the Nosotros Latinos Business Resource Group at U.S. Bank. The girls dove into entrepreneurship by brainstorming ideas, crafting business plans, designing logos, and fine-tuning their elevator pitches, showcasing their creativity and ambition.

The excitement continued October 12 at the Kroc Center on the South Side of Chicago, with nearly 75 girls and caregivers and 20 U.S. Bank volunteers participated in a variety of interactive stations where they turned financial literacy into an adventure.

Participants learned important concepts through activities such as distinguishing between “Things I Like vs. Things I Need,” building businesses,

competing in the “Game of Life,” and painting piggy banks. Each station provided a fun and dynamic way for girls of all ages to grasp essential financial skills, leaving them feeling empowered and inspired about their financial futures.

U.S. Bank’s commitment to supporting the Girl Scouts spans over ten years. This innovative expansion into community-based education represents a significant enhancement of our relationship, aligning seamlessly with our mission to provide access to financial education to the girls and their families.

Troop 35767 in Northwest Indiana is all about girl-led experiences— and financial empowerment. With help from Jess Garcia, a financial education pro from Centier Bank and dedicated troop leader, these Daisies and Brownies built a troop budget, deciding on dues and expenses themselves.

Their kindness shines, too. Inspired by Juliette, a Brownie in the troop, they recently made cards for cancer patients at Phil’s Friends. “Volunteering is important to everyone,” Juliette says. “Some people are homeless with no home. That’s why we volunteer.”

With cookie season around the corner, these Girl Scouts were ready to build their entrepreneurial skills—and continue making an impact through service projects. Whether learning to set goals or finding ways to give back, Troop 35767 and so many others are showing how Girl Scouts can make a difference.

Belonging and Culture: Creating a Council Where Every Girl Belongs

Belonging is more than a value—it’s a promise. Our staff and volunteers are invested in ensuring that every Girl Scout feels welcomed, respected, and supported. This year, we provided one-on-one consultations to help girls and families tailor their Girl Scout experience, offering accommodations ranging from language interpretation and sensory supports to dietary adjustments and service animal guidance. Our work continues to build a culture where every girl can thrive as her authentic self.

A generous $25,000 award from the Elizabeth Morse Genius Charitable Trust played a transformative role in advancing this mission. With the Trust’s support, we expanded access and inclusion for deaf and neurodiverse Girl Scouts, launched our new Upstander Patch Program to teach girls how to recognize and respond to bullying, and provided ASL interpretation at troop meetings and special events. This funding also strengthened our partnership with KultureCity, helping our council earn Sensory Inclusive Certification and equipping our Gathering Places and programs with tools and spaces that support girls with sensory processing needs.

According to KultureCity, one in four individuals has a sensory need or invisible disability. By training our staff and volunteers, creating sensory-safe environments, and offering customized accommodations, we are expanding our resources and investing in training to fulfill our vision that every Girl Scout – no matter her needs – can fully participate in the adventure.

Our first-ever Social Inclusion Week, held in April 2025, brought these commitments to life. Girl Scouts across our council engaged in activities designed to build empathy, cultural humility, and allyship—sound bowl therapy, cooking classes, reflective conversations, and even a staff visit to the Polish American Museum. Throughout the week, girls explored what it truly means to belong, and how to extend that sense of belonging to others.

Together, these efforts strengthen our belief that when every girl feels seen, valued, and included, she can lead with confidence—and change her world.

Highest Awards | Girl-Led Leadership

Higher Awards: Girl-Led Leadership with Lasting Impact

Every year, Girl Scouts across our council take on real challenges, design innovative solutions, and create lasting change through the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards—the highest honors in Girl Scouting. These awards represent hundreds of hours of leadership, service, research, and community partnership.

In 2025, 37 Girl Scouts earned the Gold Award, joining 177 Silver Awardees and 380 Bronze Awardees whose projects strengthened neighborhoods, supported families, and addressed issues ranging from environmental sustainability to mental wellness. To recognize the extraordinary commitment of our highest achievers, we awarded 10 Gold Award Scholarships totaling $50,000, helping girls launch confidently into college and their future careers.

At our Celebration of Leadership on April 26, we honored this year’s Gold Award Girl Scouts—remarkable teens who tackled real-world issues and made them better. From food justice initiatives to mental health advocacy, their projects demonstrate the courage, confidence, and character that define Girl Scout leadership. Their achievements also give them powerful credentials for college, careers, and life. We were thrilled to award 10 Gold Award Girl Scouts with $50,000 in scholarships, thanks to generous donations from the community. Awardees were: Karishma Bhatara, Addison Black, Alice Buchman, Zora Kersey, Celia Lindokken, Laci Northrup, Katie O’Brien, Amber Paramore, Rhea Smith, and Madelyn Wright.

Gold Award Scholarships — Highlight

One standout Gold Award Girl Scout was Katie O’Brien, both a Gold Award Scholarship recipient and a National Gold Award Girl Scout. Seeing a gap in support for families caring for loved ones with dementia, Katie partnered with her local library to create Dementia Care Kits—complete with resources, sensory activities, and tools designed to ease the caregiving experience. Her thoughtful, well-researched project met a deeply felt community need and inspired the library to expand the effort. Katie’s work exemplifies what the Gold Award is all about: a teen identifying a challenge, taking the lead, and building a solution that continues long after her project is complete.
