GETTING READY TO GROW
If 2025 had a single directive, it was simple: GROW GUIDING.
Not in participation numbers—though that matters—but in confidence, in capability, in the strength of the community we create for girls every single week.
To grow the number of girls and young women given the opportunity to discover their potential as leaders of their world by participating in the
Australian Guide Program across NSW, the ACT and the NT, we needed to take stock.
Across the state and territories, we saw what happens when passion meets intention. Units re-energised. Communities reconnected. Girls stepping forward, trying something new, and realising they’re more capable than they thought.

BUILDING STRENGTH BEHIND THE SCENES
Welcome to the Annual Report of our Association where we highlight the achievements and challenges of 2025.
In 2025, the Board focused on embedding strategic priorities into the core operations from finalisation of some major projects. I thank Mark Stedfut who finished in August for his service to the organisation as CEO. Kathleen (Kathy) Chalmers was then appointed as Interim CEO whilst also maintaining her CFO role. Thank you Kathy for your commitment to the organisation.
In March 2025 we welcome Rosemary Derwin as a Co-opted
Director for 12 months and have appreciated her strong governance skills and her CSCF lens in conversations. In May we farewelled and thanked Prue Carpenter for her 12 months as a Director and welcome Letitia Baldwin from Northern Territory to the Board.
The common thread through the year was preparation for the Bush to Beach Jamboree – that our State organisation hosted - discussed constantly in Board, Risk and Finance meetings. Thank you to the State Commissioner Jo Tonon for her energy and support of the Jamboree Leadership team throughout the
year and the many long hours behind the scenes of effort by the Jamboree teams ensuring we were ready to deliver and Leaders for preparing their Guides and Senior Guides for the event.
I’d like to thank the Board for their perseverance through some challenging issues in 2025. It would be fair to say that properties were a constant issue, and I appreciate the anxiety and worry Members and Volunteers have experienced as we navigated some complex issues with regulations and compliance in an industry that appears to be open to interpretation of their own
standards. We also found that some Councils challenging to get any traction with – they vary greatly in their record keeping and their ability to handle the workload. I thank those proactive Region and District Managers and Campsite committees who have a good working relationship with their local councils and provide local intel to the Staff at Guide House and State Team.
The Board put in place a Property Working Group and pulled in external expertise to support the staff, the FAI Committee and the Board to navigate the challenges. We have also reduced our Board Committees from 4 to 3 and embedded risk into all the Board Committees. I thank the four Board
Committees for their diligence and contributions throughout the year.
NSW, ACT and NT were able to finally deliver an excellent Bush to Beach Jamboree in September in Murwillumbah, and they were blessed with good weather.
A memorable event that was delivered by many teams working on the ground and behind the scenes to ensure it ran smoothly. Congratulations to the LiC’s and their teams for ensuring it became a wonderful memory for the girls and Leaders who participated.
Kathy Chalmers will cover off on deliverables in the CEO report, and I congratulate Kathy on being appointed permanently as the CEO in 2026 to take us forward. I’d also like to acknowledge and thank the
staff at Guide House for their support of the Members in delivering Guiding to the Community.

Commissioner Jo Tonon and her 2 Deputies Rachel Fife & Kirstyn Taylor and for their drive, enthusiasm and focus during 2025 to pivot when required, and push forward positive change.
Across Australia all the State Girl Guide organisations are navigating a number of challenges, both financially and legally from an NRS perspective. We do not always share the work and effort that occurs behind the scenes. However, I’d like to acknowledge the diligence and focus of both Joanne Muller and Rosemary Derwin have provided throughout 2025; not just to us in Girl Guides NSW ACT & NT, but to all the State Guiding organisations for the NRS claims that have been received to date.
Robert Baden-Powell said Guiding was a movement. We keep changing and evolving as our world changes. It takes focussed commitment to maintain our high standards.

The Finance team implemented
improved systems to reduce administrative effort associated with resource sharing, with further enhancements planned for 2026.
I also acknowledge the increasing challenges facing not-for-profits, particularly in relation to property, where regulatory and compliance requirements continue to expand. These matters will remain a focus during 2026.
Ongoing investment in digital learning and capability has improved access to training and resources for Volunteers and Members, aligned to contemporary
expectations and ways of working.
Jamboree 2025 – Bush 2 Beach was a significant achievement for NSW, ACT and NT. I acknowledge the substantial commitment of time and effort that enabled the delivery of an event that participants will remember for years to come.
Towards the end of the year, the contracts of several staff engaged on strategic projects concluded. I thank them for their contribution to the delivery of this work and for supporting its transition into ongoing operations.
I also acknowledge our outgoing CEO, Mark Stedfut for his leadership in guiding our strategic direction throughout 2025.
Overall, 2025 strengthened the operating environment that supports our volunteers and staff— and, most importantly, the girls and young women we exist to serve.
As the newly appointed CEO, I thank the Board for its confidence in me and acknowledge the guidance and governance it provides. This leadership supports organisational focus, accountability and prudent planning.
As we move into 2026—the final year of our strategic plan—I look forward to continuing to work with the State
Commissioner team, staff and Volunteers to grow membership, expand Leader training opportunities, and strengthen community relevance through deeper community and stakeholder engagement.

GROWTH, DONE DIFFERENTLY
2025 marked a shift from hoping for growth to actively engineering it.
The Ready Steady Recruit campaign brought coordination, visibility, and momentum—aligning efforts across Regions and creating a shared moment of invitation.
And it worked.
Communities that had gone quiet came back to life. New Units formed.
Existing ones expanded. Girls showed up—and stayed.
CASE STUDY: REGIONAL REVIVAL
In Parkes, a once-quiet Hall welcomed 45 girls through its doors. Within weeks, a full Unit was re-established—powered by local leadership and a clear plan.
Growth didn’t just happen—it was built. Intentionally, collectively, and with energy.
CONFIDENCE IN ACTION
Every badge earned, every challenge attempted, every moment of leadership—it all adds up.
In 2025, girls didn’t just participate. They led. They questioned. They created.
From local Unit activities to international connections, Guiding continued to be a space where girls are heard, valued, and encouraged to step forward.

The rollout of Girl Guides Learning marked a major step forward.

Volunteers and Members can now engage with training, track progress, and build skills in a way that fits around real life—not the other way around.
Because capability isn’t static. It’s something we build, continuously.
HONOURED WITH THE 2025 GREAT THINGS AWARD FOR TRANSFORMATION IN EDUCATION
Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT was recognised with the 2025 ASI Great Things Award for Transformation in Education for the innovative online learning platform, Girl Guides Learning.
The Advanced Solutions International Great Things Awards celebrate organisations using technology and creativity to drive real impact. This recognition highlights how far we’ve come in reshaping learning and development for our Members and Volunteers across the country.
Tackling a National Challenge
As part of our mission to empower girls and young women to discover their potential as leaders of their world, our volunteers must be empowered with the tools they need to thrive. We identified a clear challenge: our existing learning systems weren’t delivering the consistency, accessibility, or engagement that our diverse community deserved. Training was difficult to access, fragmented across Regions, and didn’t provide the flexibility required by today’s Members, Volunteers, and Leaders.
A Collaborative, Transformative Approach
To change this, we embarked on an ambitious digital transformation journey. The result is Girl Guides Learning — a streamlined, accessible, and modern learning environment that brings Members and Volunteers together through one central platform. This transformation was made possible thanks to a strong crossorganisational partnership:
• Guide House staff whose vision and coordination drove the project forward under the project management of Clodagh O’Grady and the expertise of Jo Lindsay
• Integr8iv, our trusted iMIS partner
• The TopClass Learning Management System (LMS) team
Together, we built a seamless integration between My GuideBook and the learning platform, creating a smooth, intuitive experience for users across NSW, ACT, and NT and extended to all of Guiding in Australia.
A Meaningful Impact Across Our Community
Since launch, Girl Guides Learning has transformed the way we deliver training:
• Improved accessibility for Members statewide
• Reduced administrative load for volunteers
• Increased engagement in training and development
• Strengthened support for Leaders delivering high-quality Girl Guides experiences
This change is already helping us advance our work in supporting girls to grow into confident, empowered, and capable young women. Looking Ahead
Being honoured with the 2025 ASI Great Things Award is a proud milestone for our organisation and a testament to the dedication, collaboration, and creativity of our national Girl Guides community. And we’re just getting started. We’re committed to continuing to grow and enhance Girl Guides Learning so it remains a future-ready platform for generations to come.

Cultural inclusion is not an add-on to the Guiding experience. It strengthens it. When girls are encouraged to share their stories, traditions, perspectives and languages, our movement becomes richer, more connected, and more reflective of the communities we serve.
At its heart, Guiding is about belonging. It is about ensuring every girl feels safe, seen, valued and empowered to participate fully— regardless of background, ability, identity, culture or circumstance. Because when girls know they belong, they gain the confidence to grow, lead and thrive. “
HANNAH’S JOURNEY: BELONGING, COURAGE AND THE POWER OF GUIDING
“I’ve been a Guide since I was five years old. My Mum, Nanna, Great Nan and Great Great Nan were all Girl Guides… You’ve probably seen me in my rainbow chair cruising around the site. I love my chair, especially when I put it on speed 5 and go really fast… I have a disease called childhood dementia.”
This is how Hannah, a Guide from Leeton, introduced herself during the Bush 2 Beach Jamboree. Her words are joyful, candid and courageous—a reflection of the spirit she brings to Guiding every day.
What sits behind those words is a
deeper story—one of love, resilience, and the profound impact of belonging.
A TRADITION—AND SOMETHING MORE
Hannah is a sixth-generation Girl Guide. Guiding runs through her family—a shared legacy of sisterhood, adventure and service passed down through generations. When she joined as a Gumnut Guide at five, it felt like a natural beginning.
But Hannah’s journey has taken a path her family could never have anticipated.
She is living with an ultra-rare form
of childhood dementia—one of only a handful of known cases worldwide. While most children with her condition are not expected to live beyond the age of ten, Hannah is now older than that. In every sense, she is defying expectations.
Her family’s focus is simple and powerful: to ensure her life is filled with joy, connection and meaningful experiences.
THE MEANING OF BELONGING
For Hannah, Guiding is more than an activity. It is a place where she is seen for who she is—not defined by her condition, but embraced as a friend, a Patrol member, and a Guide.
When asked what Guiding means to her, her answer is clear:
“Friends and fun… and yoga.”
For her mother, Rachel, that sense of belonging is transformative.
“Guiding is where people see Hannah first,” she explains. “Not her diagnosis.”
At the Bush 2 Beach Jamboree, surrounded by hundreds of Guides and Leaders, Rachel experienced something rare: the ability to simply be present.
“Everywhere else, I’m constantly on alert,” she says. “But here, I felt supported. I could breathe. I wasn’t doing it alone.”
MOMENTS THAT MATTER
At the heart of Hannah’s story are moments—simple, powerful experiences that become lasting memories.
In the ocean at Jamboree, surrounded by support and community, Hannah laughed freely in the waves.
“Normally, it’s stressful,” Rachel reflects.
“But here, I could enjoy it too. She was just… free.”
These moments matter deeply. For families navigating complex care and uncertainty, they are not small things—they are everything.
STRENGTH BEHIND THE SCENES
Rachel speaks openly about the duality of her experience.
“People see the smiles, but they don’t see the effort behind them,” she says.
“There’s grief alongside the joy.”
Her description is simple and striking: calm on the surface, working tirelessly beneath.
Yet through it all, her role remains grounded in something universal: “I’m just being a mum.”
GUIDING AS A LIFELINE
Guiding has become a constant in Hannah’s life—a space that adapts, includes and uplifts.
While her abilities have changed, her place in Guiding has not.
“She might not be climbing the abseil tower anymore,” Rachel says, “but she can sit with her Patrol, laugh, and be part of it. That’s what matters.”
The impact extends beyond Hannah. At Jamboree, her support carer—a former Guide—was inspired to rejoin as a Leader, drawn back by the sense of community and purpose.
“Guiding brings people in,” Rachel says. “It becomes family.”
RAISING AWARENESS. CREATING CHANGE.
Childhood dementia remains largely unknown, despite affecting as many children as some more widely recognised conditions.
For Rachel, this must change. “Awareness is where it starts,” she says. “If more people understand, we can build support, research, and hope for the future.”
Her advocacy is grounded in a simple belief: that no family should face this journey unseen.
THE POWER OF ONE STORY
Hannah’s story is deeply personal—but its impact reaches far beyond one family.
It speaks to the role Guiding plays in creating inclusive communities where every girl can belong. It highlights the importance of adaptability, compassion and shared responsibility. And it demonstrates how, together, we can elevate awareness of issues that might otherwise remain invisible.
Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT is exploring how we can continue to stand alongside families like Hannah’s—not only through inclusive experiences, but through advocacy and awareness initiatives, including participation in the Childhood Dementia Initiative’s FACE it campaign.
Because when we amplify voices like Hannah’s, we do more than tell a story.
We create understanding. We strengthen community.
And we help shape a future where every girl is seen, supported, and able to live her fullest life.
SMALL CHOICES, BIG IMPACT
From reducing waste at camps to partnering on period equity initiatives, 2025 saw practical sustainability embedded into everyday Guiding.
Not abstract. Not distant. Actionable.
Because the future girls inherit should be one they helped shape.
STRENGTHENING THE FOUNDATIONS
This year introduced meaningful changes to how we manage and distribute resources.
From reducing internal commerce to introducing monthly payment options, the focus was clear: accessibility and sustainability must go hand in hand.
Participation shouldn’t depend on circumstance—and sustainability ensures we can keep showing up.
MOMENTS THAT MATTER
From large-scale events like Jamboree to local adventures and challenges, 2025 delivered experiences that girls will remember for years.
These moments aren’t just highlights. They’re the glue that builds connection, confidence, and community.
JUNIOR JUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE
In March 2025, Pre-junior and Junior Guides from across NSW, ACT & NT came together for the inaugural Jumble in the Jungle adventure at the Cataract Activity Centre. Set in a stunning bushland setting, the event invited our youngest Members and their Leaders to step into a day (or overnight stay) of challenge, discovery, and plenty of muddy, memorable fun.
Despite a very wet weather forecast in the lead-up, the rain held off just enough for the full program to run to schedule. Guides threw
themselves into Challenge Valley, a 1.5 kilometre obstacle course featuring climbing, crawling, water crossings and mud pits designed to build physical strength and mental resilience. Laughter, encouragement and teamwork echoed through the course as participants supported one another through each element.
Members then chose their own adventure: some raced down the popular 40-metre water slide, whilst others explored Bush Survival Skills which involved building mini shelters, learning about bush foods,
and discovering how to care for the natural environment.
The event was a true celebration of courage, friendship and trying something new. For many of our attendees, it was their first experience of this kind of large-scale outdoor adventure (or even camping in general!), helping them grow confidence, independence and a strong sense of belonging within the Guiding community.

GREAT GUIDE SLEEPOVER
The Great Guide Sleepover (GGS) remains one of the most anticipated events on the Girl Guides calendar, bringing together girls, Leaders and volunteers for unforgettable overnight adventures in some of Australia’s most unique locations. Months of planning go into the delivery of this annual event. In 2025, GGS took place at Taronga Zoo Sydney, Taronga Western Plains Zoo Dubbo, and the Alice Springs Desert Park.
In Sydney, the sun miraculously appeared after weeks of wet weather that resulted in last-minute program and sleeping arrangement changes. Although girls were moved from the traditional concert lawns to the top plaza area, the excitement remained
unchanged. A silent disco replaced the usual dance party, allowing celebrations to continue while remaining mindful of the zoo animals and closer sleeping quarters. Girls danced late into the evening and enjoyed activities including popcorn stations, badge-making, games and a movie screening before settling into their bedrolls for the night.
At Dubbo, more than 200 Girl Guides and Leaders gathered at Taronga Western Plains Zoo for a weekend of adventure, connection and discovery. Interactive keeper talks and close encounters with native and nocturnal animals created memorable educational experiences, while waking to the sounds of lions and emus
added to the magic of the event.
Whilst Alice Springs attracts a smaller number of attendees, the magic of the Great Guide Sleepover remained just as strong. Set against the backdrop of the Red Centre, girls from across the Northern Territory Region came together to experience adventure, connection and learning in one of Australia’s most unique natural environments. Activities focused on wildlife conservation, desert habitats and the fauna native to Central Australia, encouraging girls to deepen their understanding of the environment while developing confidence and curiosity.
Whilst the Great Guide Sleepover is always filled with fun and adventure,
(Net Promoter Score) fundraising has remained at the heart of the event since its inception in 1996. In 2025, Girl Guides participating in the events raised an incredible $24,000 in support of the Greater Bilby, the year’s conservation focus animal. This achievement reflects the enthusiasm and dedication of Girl Guides across our Association, and their ongoing commitment to protecting Australia’s unique wildlife and contributing positively to their communities.

REGATTA: OARS AND ROARS
In March 2025, Guides aged over the age of thirteen gathered together at Myuna Bay Scout Camp for Regatta, a much-loved long-standing tradition on the Girl Guides calendar.
With a vibrant “Oars and Roars” theme, the weekend celebrated teamwork, skill-building, and friendly competition in a lively, welcoming atmosphere. Senior Guides, Junior Leaders, Olaves and Adult Members returned once again, or joined for the first time, to take part in a program that blends tradition with fun, challenge and connection.
The weekend saw participants take to the water for boating races, putting teamwork, coordination and determination to the test as they
navigated the course. On the land, the energy continued with a range of challenges designed to spark creativity, strategy and plenty of laughter, all while building friendships as Guides intermingled with fellow Members across various Districts and Regions.
Regatta continues to be a highlight for many Guides, and it is not uncommon for participants to return annually to reconnect, challenge themselves, and enjoy the unique blend of adventure and tradition that this event delivers. It also presents an important opportunity for our Senior Guides and Junior Leaders to develop leadership skills with like-minded girls.

BUSH 2 BEACH AUSTRALIAN JAMBOREE
Bush 2 Beach Jamboree 2025 transformed the Murwillumbah Showgrounds into a vibrant village of adventure, friendship and discovery as more than 1,200 Girl Guides from across Australia and around the world came together for one unforgettable week in the Tweed Valley.
Held from 28 September to 5 October, the national Jamboree welcomed Guides aged 10 to 17 from every Australian state and territory,
alongside international contingents from Ukraine, Tonga, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Together, they shared a week defined by challenge, cultural exchange, laughter and the unmistakable spirit of Guiding.
Against the backdrop of the stunning Tweed hinterland, girls embraced opportunities to try new things, build confidence and form lifelong friendships. From adventurous activities and badge trading to campfire moments and late-night laughter in tents, Bush 2 Beach celebrated what happens when girls are empowered to lead, connect and thrive.
For many participants, it was their first time visiting the Tweed region—and they quickly fell in love with the area.
“It’s been fun. The Tweed is very pretty. Waking up to the mountains—it’s just amazing,” two Guides shared during the week.
Others spoke enthusiastically about making new friends, learning new skills and embracing Guiding traditions, including the ever-popular practice of “pegging” friends with decorative pegs throughout camp.
The Jamboree marked the first time the Murwillumbah Showgrounds had hosted an event of this scale, made possible through significant infrastructure upgrades supported by a NSW Government Crown Reserves Improvement Fund grant. The improvements included a modern and inclusive amenities facility, helping ensure the site was accessible and welcoming for all participants.
State Commissioner Jo Tonon praised both the location and the support shown by the local community throughout the event.
“It’s been fantastic—such a great location,” she said.
“The Murwillumbah Showground Committee has been incredibly supportive and we’ve had a fantastic relationship with the local council.”
The State Commissioner also reflected on the impact of Jamboree experiences for young people.
“For many girls, this is a once-in-alifetime opportunity. It’s a chance to disconnect from screens, make realworld connections, try new things and grow — not just in skills, but in confidence.”
That growth was visible across every aspect of camp life. Whether participating in adventurous outdoor activities, supporting one another through challenges or sharing stories beneath the stars, Guides demonstrated resilience, teamwork and kindness at every turn.
Then, on the final night of camp, Bush 2 Beach delivered a moment that will forever be etched into Guiding history.
As dusk settled over Murwillumbah and the closing ceremony began, more than 1,200 Guides gathered together as the arena lights dimmed in anticipation.
Through a special Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) connection, 15 selected Girl Guides were given the extraordinary
opportunity to speak live with astronaut Zena Cardman aboard the International Space Station.
As Cardman’s voice echoed across the arena “VK4ISS, welcome aboard the International Space Station. I have you loud and clear” the crowd erupted with excitement.
One by one, Guides stepped forward to ask questions about life in space, careers in STEM, courage and curiosity. They asked about sleeping in microgravity, the most beautiful sights from orbit and the challenges of becoming an astronaut.
“Don’t be the person who tells yourself you can’t do something,” Cardman encouraged the girls. “Pursue what makes you curious—with passion and persistence.”
As the ISS disappeared beyond the horizon and the signal faded, the arena erupted into applause. Some Guides cried. Others simply stood in awe of what they had experienced.
But Bush 2 Beach was never only about one extraordinary moment.
Behind every activity, every safely pitched tent, every meal and every smiling participant stood an enormous volunteer team whose dedication brought the Jamboree to life. Organising teams, Group Leaders, leadership teams and volunteers worked tirelessly before, during and after camp to create a safe, inclusive and inspiring experience for every girl.
The event was also supported by a broader community of partners, supporters and organisations (see page 34) whose generosity and encouragement helped make Bush 2 Beach possible.
From the Murwillumbah Showground Committee and Tweed Shire Council to local services, suppliers, families and supporters across the region, the Jamboree was strengthened by a shared commitment to empowering girls and young women through adventure and leadership. Together, they created far more than a campsite. They created a community
where girls could belong completely, discover their strengths and realise the power of their own voices.
From the mountains of Murwillumbah to the stars above Earth, Bush 2 Beach Jamboree 2025 showcased the very best of Guiding: courage, connection, inclusion and adventure — and reminded every participant that no dream is too big, and no horizon is out of reach.

FINANCIAL STEWARDSHIP FOR SUSTAINABLE GROWTH
If 2025 was defined by growth, modernisation, and stronger operational delivery, it was equally defined by disciplined financial stewardship.
Throughout the year, our financial focus remained clear: to strengthen sustainability, improve accessibility, and ensure our resources continue to support the long-term delivery of Guiding across NSW, ACT & NT.
This year’s financial statements present a consolidated view of the Association, including Regions, Districts, and Campsites, and reflect
the continued maturity of our financial governance and reporting practices.
Overview
The Association maintained a stable financial position while continuing to invest in strategic priorities that directly strengthen the Guiding experience.
Revenue streams remained diversified across:
• Membership income
• Property and investment revenue
• Grants and donations
• Fundraising
• Hall hire
• Program and event income
This diversified model remains a critical strength, enabling the organisation to balance mission delivery with prudent financial management.
Expenditure during the year reflected our continued investment in both program outcomes and organisational capability.
Key areas included:
• Volunteer and Member support systems
• Insurance and compliance obligations
• Information technology and digital platforms
• Property maintenance and strategic review
• State operations, including staff and service delivery
• Regional, District, and Campsite activities
Importantly, these investments were made in direct support of the organisation’s broader strategic ambition: to grow Guiding while strengthening the systems that sustain it.
Strengthening Efficiency and Governance
A major focus throughout 2025 has been the continued progression of our financial consolidation and reporting uplift.
This work remains central to our commitment to robust governance, compliance with Australian accounting standards, and our obligations under the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission Act 2012.
Beyond compliance, the practical benefit of this work is significant.
By simplifying reporting pathways and improving central visibility across Regions, Districts, and Campsites, we are reducing the administrative burden placed on Volunteers and
enabling more time to be spent where it matters most: delivering great Guiding experiences.
This work also supports sharper decision-making, improved forecasting, and stronger alignment between budgeting practices and strategic priorities.
In short, better systems are enabling better stewardship.
Looking Ahead
As we move into 2026, our focus remains on long-term sustainability.
This includes:
• continued efficiency gains through financial systems improvement
• strategic property decisionmaking
• strengthening reserve discipline
• aligning investment decisions to mission outcomes
• supporting membership growth with sustainable cost models
The progress made this year positions the Association strongly for the years
Our financial approach is not simply about balancing numbers. It is about ensuring that every
dollar entrusted to the Association works as hard as possible to expand opportunity for girls and young women.

AWARDS
Girl Guides Australia (GGA) has a comprehensive recognition framework celebrating the contributions of Adult Members and Volunteers across the organisation. It acknowledges dedicated service, long-term commitment, and acts of bravery in a fair, consistent, and meaningful way, reflecting the breadth of service across Australian Girl Guiding and the wider community.
GGA’s recognition system includes three key categories:
1. Good Service Awards
These awards recognise significant service at local, regional, state,
national, and international levels.
Each award reflects the scope and impact of the contribution made.
Key awards include:
• Boronia – service at Unit or District level
• Banksia – contributions up to Region level
• Wattle – service across Unit, District, Region, and State levels
• Flowering Gum – service at State or National level
• Emu, Grey Kangaroo, Red Kangaroo, and Silver Kangaroo
– distinguished National and International service, including contributions to the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS)
Each award includes a badge, certificate, and citation.
2. Years of Membership Recognition
This category recognises long-term commitment through badges and numerals marking milestones from one year onwards, then in five-year increments. Service is cumulative and may include a range of Guiding roles.
3. Bravery Awards
The Bronze Cross, Silver Cross, and Gilt Cross recognise exceptional courage demonstrated by Youth or Adult Members. Nominations are submitted confidentially and assessed by each State Girl Guides Organisation’s Awards Committee.

YOUTH AWARDS
Girl Guides Australia offers nationally recognised Youth Awards celebrating achievement, leadership, personal growth, and service. These awards encourage young people to challenge themselves, develop skills, and contribute meaningfully to their communities while reflecting the values of Guiding.
The Queen’s Guide Award is the highest achievement award for Youth Members in Australia, supporting personal development, service, challenge, and reflection.
The Olave Challenge, for Members aged 18–30, focuses on community, adventure, and self-development
through volunteering, new experiences, and skill-building activities.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (Gold Level) is a globally recognised youth development framework involving service, skill development, physical activity, and adventurous journeys.
The Commonwealth Award is open to Guiding members across Commonwealth countries from age 14 to 30. It encourages participants to explore the Commonwealth through engaging activities while remaining active within Guiding in youth or adult roles.

They lead Unit meetings after long workdays, maintain treasured properties, mentor emerging Leaders, organise camps, govern wisely, manage risk, support families and create safe places where girls can discover who they are.
This contribution cannot be measured in hours alone.

A FINAL REFLECTION
As we close this report, I am reminded that Guiding has always been more than a program of activities. It is a living community built by girls, Volunteers, families, staff, supporters and generations of women who believe in what young people can become when given trust, challenge and belonging.
This year has shown us both the strength of our foundations and the scale of the opportunities ahead.
We know the environment around us is changing. Communities are evolving, expectations are rising, and the demands on volunteerled organisations continue to grow.
Yet what remains unchanged is the extraordinary spirit of Guiding: optimistic, courageous, practical, supportive, uplifting, and deeply connected to community.
