Pioneers Industry 4.0

Digitalisation and the continuous improvement of its processes are two of ITT Ceramic`s rmest commitments. The company is one of the rst tile companies to implement an Industry 4.0 system, which will turn traditional factories into a smart production industry. Currently, the company uses MOM (Manufacturing Operations Management) management software as well as digital tools such as Big Data, IoT (Internet of Things) and Machine Learning, which links all the factory’s systems, thus keeping all relevant data in a single point.

La digitalización y la mejora continua de sus procesos son dos de las rmes apuestas de ITT Ceramic. La compañía es una de las primeras empresas cerámicas en la implantación de un sistema de Industria 4.0 que convertirá la fábrica tradicional en una industria de producción inteligente. Actualmente, la empresa cuenta con un software de gestión MOM (Manufacturing Operations Management) junto con habilitadores digitales como el Big Data, IoT (Internet of Things) o Machine Learning, que integra todos los sistemas de la fábrica, consolidando así los datos relevantes en un único punto.

We are also working on implementing marketing tools within the QR code so that, in addition to all the manufacturing information, customers can have access to everything they need for the sale from the moment they receive the ceramic pieces.

Cada pieza dispone, además, de su propio código QR, que permite conseguir una total trazabilidad, pudiendo consultar en cualquier momentolosdatosdefabricacióndelaspiezas,asícomolaoptimización y mejora continua de los procesos. También se está trabajando en la implementación de herramientas de marketing dentro del código QR, para que, además de toda la información de fabricación, el cliente pueda contar con todo lo necesario para la venta desde el momento en el que recepcione las piezas cerámicas.

The Integrated Envionmental Authorisation (IEA) is an administrative intervention gure that, for the a ected installations, replaces the set of environmental authorisations existing until the entry into force of Law 16/2022, of 1 July, on integrated pollution prevention and control, and which establishes an environmental condition for the operation of the activities and nstallations contemplated in Annex of said Law.

Laying & Maintenance

Correct, careful laying of ITT Ceramic’s products is vital for taking full advantage of their technical characteristics. (Standard of reference: UNE 138002) For this reason, the following points are necessary:

1. Check the calibre, tone and quality of the product before laying.

2. Choose appropriate installation tools (toothed trowel, white rubberhammer, suction grip and rubber trowel for pointing).

3. Ensure that the surface on which the material is to be laid is level, clean and insulated from damp.

4. Pay special attention to the type of adhesive to be used (consult the habitual adhesive supplier), since each type of ceramic requires the appropriate adhesive. (Standard of reference: EN-1348).

5. The professional responsible for laying the material must choose the appropriate joints between pieces and the perimeter joints, in order to guarantee correct absorption of structural movements, and an allowance for dimensional tolerances of the product. ITT Ceramic recommends laying the tiles with a minimum joint between 1,5 mm to 3 mm thickness, depending on thickness and format (Always consult the standard UNE 138002) and checking for other indications given on the box (measurements between calibres, recommended joint).

6. Do not use coloured pointing material containing black smoke (micronised carbon) or dyes which can hamper the cleaning of the tiled surface.

7. Clean o excess pointing material from the surface of the tiles when it is still fresh, using a sponge and clean water; never use hard materials that could scratch the tiles, such as metal spatulas or abrasive scourers. Always follow the recommendations given by the adhesive manufacturer.

6. Once the tiles are laid, avoid working in the tiled zone (plastering, painting, placing sca olds/ladders, projecting metallic fragments from disc grinders, moving tools, dragging heavy objects, moving remains of abrasive building materials, etc.) If this cannot be avoided, always protect the tiles and joints to prevent problems of cleaning or deterioration.The materials used for this protection must not be harmful or contain chemical products which may damage the tilling.

Special for laying steps:

The substrate must be perfectly clean and smooth.

Begin laying from the top downwards.

A good preliminary rethinking by the Facultative Direction is recommended.

Do not leave any zones without cement glue.

Fill completely the gap between the wall and the lower edge of the step. Always place the riser at the same level as the step.

It is recommended to protect the step surfaces while working. Avoid direct blows to the steps both during and after installation.

Special for laying rectangular formats:

When laying rectangular formats discontinuously, never do so in the centre of the piece. In order to maintain the aesthetic appearance and avoid di culties in installation, we recommend that discontinuous laying does not exceed 25% of the side to which it is applied.

Una colocación adecuada y cuidadosa de los productos fabricados por ITT Ceramic es vital para hacer resaltar al máximo las características técnicas de los mismos. (Norma de referencia UNE 138002). Por este motivo, es necesario:

1. Veri car el calibre, tono y calidad del producto, antes de la colocación.

2. Escoger herramientas de instalación adecuadas (llana dentada, maza de goma blanda, ventosa y llana de goma para la aplicación de la junta).

3. Que la super cie sobre la cual vaya a instalarse el material esté nivelada, limpia y aislada de la humedad.

4. Prestar especial atención al tipo de adhesivo a utilizar (consultar con el proveedor habitual de adhesivos), dado que cada tipo de cerámica requiere el adhesivo adecuado. (Norma de referencia: EN-1348 y UNE 138002).

5. El profesional responsable de la colocación del material, debe elegir adecuadamente las juntas entre piezas, así como las juntas perimetrales, de manera que se garantice una correcta absorción de movimientos estructurales, y una compensación de tolerancias dimensionales del producto. ITT Ceramic recomienda colocar la cerámica con una junta mínima de entre 1,5 mm y 3 mm dependiendo de espesor y formato (consultar siempre la norma UNE 138002) y comprobar si en la caja hay otras indicaciones (medidas entre calibres o junta recomendada).

6. No se debe utilizar junta de color que contenga negro de humo (carbón micronizado), ni tintes que pueden di cultar la limpieza de la super cie revestida.

7. Limpiar los restos de rejuntado de la super cie de las baldosas cuando aún están frescos, utilizando una esponja con agua limpia; en ningún caso deben utilizarse materiales que presenten alta dureza y puedan rayar el producto cerámico tales como espátulas metálicas o estropajos abrasivos. Siempre se deben seguir las recomendaciones indicadas por el fabricante de adhesivos.

8. Una vez colocado el azulejo, hay que evitar las operaciones en la zona alicatada (enyesado, pintura, colocación andamios/escaleras, proyección de restos metálicos de radiales, trasiego de herramientas, arrastre de objetos pesados, resto de materiales abrasivos de obra, etc.), en caso contrario, siempre hay que proteger las baldosas y las juntas para evitar posteriores problemas de limpieza o deterioro. El material que se use para esta protección no debe dañar ni contener productos químicos que dañen al azulejo.

Colocación especial de peldaños:

El soporte estructural debe estar totalmente limpio y enrasado en super cie.

Se recomienda un buen replanteo previo por parte de la Dirección Facultativa.

Empezar la colocación desde arriba hacia abajo.

Es imprescindible no dejar zonas sin cemento cola.

Macizar completamente el hueco entre la pared y el borde interior del peldaño.

Colocar siempre la tabica (contra-huella) al mismo nivel que el peldaño.

Se recomienda la protección del peldaño durante la obra.

Se deben evitar golpes directos a los peldaños durante la obra y una vez instalados.

Colocación especial de formatos rectangulares:

La colocación a rompejunta de formatos rectangulares nunca debe realizarse en la mitad de la pieza.

Se aconseja que para mantener la estética y evitar di cultades en su instalación, la colocación a rompejunta no supere el 25% del lado sobre el que se aplica.

During xing:

Once the tiles have been xed, it will be necessary to provide adequate protection against possible damage during subsequent building work, covering them with cardboard, thick, carpet or plastic.

Durante los trabajos de ejecución:

Dado que el pavimento no es el último elemento a colocar en una obra, será necesario una vez instalado darle una adecuada protección frente a posibles daños que pudieran ocasionar trabajos posteriores, para lo cual deberá cubrirse con cartón, moqueta o plásticos gruesos.

Cleaning after xing:

Residues remaining after work completion can be easily removed with a commercial detergent or an acid-based one, always considering the chemical resistance indicated by the manufacturer.

When using cleaning products the following general considerations should be taken into account:

• Acid cleaning should never be carried out on recently laid oor tiles. The reaction of the acid with the unset cement may damage the joints or deposit insoluble compounds on the surface.

• It is recommended to soak the surface with clean water before using any chemical agent. This prevents the grouts from absorbing these agents. Clean the surface with water immediately after the treatment to remove any remain of the chemical products.

• Trowels and abrasive scourers must not be used. The use of sponges is strongly recommended, especially natural ones.

• The xing by a professional tiler is highly recommended for getting the best performance.

Limpieza inicial después de haber colocado los azulejos:

Los restos de suciedad que se generan tras la puesta en obra se eliminarán fácilmente con un desincrustante comercial o, en su defecto, con un detergente de base ácida, si bien deberá tenerse en cuenta la resistencia química indicada por el fabricante de las baldosas. Para la utilización de productos de limpieza, deberán tenerse en cuenta las siguientes consideraciones generales:

• Nunca debe efectuarse una limpieza ácida sobre pavimentos recién instalados, porque el ácido reacciona con el cemento no fraguado, pudiendo deteriorar las juntas o depositar compuestos insolubles sobre su super cie.

• Es conveniente impregnar la super cie con agua limpia previamente a cualquier tratamiento químico, previniendo así la posible absorción de los agentes utilizados por el material de rejuntado, y aclarar con agua inmediatamente después del tratamiento para eliminar los restos de productos químicos.

• No deben utilizarse espátulas metálicas ni estropajos abrasivos, siendo adecuadas las esponjas, preferentemente naturales.

• Este tipo de operaciones deben ser realizadas por personal experimentado, teniendo en cuenta las características de las baldosas y las recomendaciones del fabricante.

Routine care:

Daily cleaning of stoneware tiles is particularly simple, it only requires clean water to which an alkaline base cleaner may be added.

The use of waxes, oils or similar products is not recommended since the non-porous glazed surface prevents from a correct application.

It may occasionally occur that stains cannot be fully removed with a commercial detergent, making necessary to use solvents or speci c cleaning agents. It is recommended to rstly check the chemical resistance of the tile and, as an extra precaution, test in a clean, spare tile or in non-visible area.

Cuidado diario:

La limpieza cotidiana de las baldosas cerámicas es particularmente simple ya que únicamente se requiere agua limpia a la que puede añadirse un detergente de base alcalina. No se recomienda el uso de ceras, aceites o productos similares ya que la nula porosidad de la super cie vidriada impide la correcta aplicación.

Eventualmente, podemos encontrarnos frente a manchas de tipo doméstico que no pueden ser totalmente eliminadas con un detergente comercial, por lo que será necesario el empleo de disolventes o agentes limpiadores especí cos.

Deberá consultarse previamente la clase de resistencia química de la baldosa y, para mayor seguridad, es conveniente hacer una prueba de la limpieza sobre piezas de reserva o en un lugar poco visible.

Important:

Hand-painted ceramic wall tiles or complementary pieces on third and fourth firing must be treated with extreme care during both the fixing and subsequent cleaning, as well as during ordinary routine cleaning. The use of pure or diluted acids, detergents or other corrosive products will seriously harm their original look.

Muy importante:

Los azulejos y piezas complementarias pintadas a mano y aquellas con efectos de lustres, nacarados y oros deben ser tratados con delicadeza durante los procesos de colocación y posterior limpieza, así como durante su cuidado ordinario, ya que la utilización de ácidos puros o diluidos, detergentes u otros productos corrosivos alteran de forma importante su apariencia original.
