About me

My name is Leo Gewert, and I have just finished my bachelor’s degree in architecture at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. My interest in architecture began in my late teens, which inspired me to pursue architecture school. This journey has deepened my love for architecture, while also making me question and reflect on it. My education has revealed the enchanting and complex nature of architecture. Now, my sights are set on increasing my knowledge for setting the stage of life.

01 Nature Collective

Semester 2 - Spring 2022

Site: Skåne - Sweden

Professors: Isabell Gonzaga & Carolina Hammarström

A collective aimed at rethinking how we humans live today, with the purpose of enhancing quality of life, inspired by blue zones. The site is divided into three parts with an entrance, garden & living quarters and lastly the communal spaces. Two key factors for a long and fulfilling life are social connection and an active lifestyle. To foster community, the complex is designed with a focus on communal spaces, such as the dining area, activity roof deck, as well as a communal bathing facility. The kitchen garden and building maintenance are designed to be collectively managed, to promote an active everyday life

02 House in a park

Semester 4 - Spring 2023

Site: Södermalm - Stockholm

Professors: Albert France-Lanord & Lovisa Lindström

An isolated plateau in the midst of the winding city. To achieve successful townhouses in the cramped and currently unsafe Johan Helmich’s Park, the houses needed an isolating element to create the security and seclusion that exist in suburban villas. The houses and gardens are thus elevated on a plateau and adorned with greenery and activities.

03 The Veteran

Semester 6 - Spring 2024

Site: Nynäshamn

Professors: Elin Strand Ruin & Joacim Bengtsson

This project addresses the growing loneliness in society by creating a senior collective combined with various public activities to celebrate and put the elderly in the center. The neighborhood, located just northwest of the project’s site, suffers from a significant lack of public services. To meet this need, the senior collective includes a makerspace, vegetable gardens, a café, and a library. These features are part of a tailored program aimed at supporting and inviting the neighborhood, as well as promoting social cohesion and community.
