I have so enjoyed getting to meet and know people from all types of businesses in and around the Golden Isle, and I have found the following to be true. No matter what the business or profession of choice, be it a restaurant, realtor, shop or pet care owner, medical facility, interior designer, etc., you are all vital to the heartbeat of our area. It takes a village, and we are all part of a bigger community! In these pages, you will find business owners who care about our community. Meo’s Suite supported the Harvest Bank this fall by having customers bring in canned goods for a discount. Mari Max supports Communities in Schools with a portion of proceeds from an annual sale. Village Inn & Pub collaborates with Morning Star by providing apprenticing opportunities to their students. One of my heart missions is through Hope 1312 Collective. “Hope deferred makes the heart weak but a longing fulfilled is the tree of life.” Proverbs 13:12. Hope 1312 Collective supports the local foster system through a variety of avenues. Spring is normally the most beautiful time of year in the Golden Isles. I say normally because nothing these days seems truly normal. However, we are still blessed to be able to enjoy the fantastic moderate weather, and the gorgeous scenery. That being said, the ugly truth is that most, if not all, of the events listed on these pages, which were compiled weeks before the inital crisis, have been canceled. This is disappointing for all of us. Like most of you, I love our area and want everything to be perfect just as it is, and I hope that we will very soon experience an end to this chaos. In the meantime however, all of us at Tocal would like to encourage each of you to please stay safe and follow all the guidelines that the president and CDC have put into place. We are a strong community and will come out of this like no other. I have every confidence, that starting with our Summer Issue on July 1st, that we will be well on our way back to the normalcy and grandeur of The Golden Isles.

Spring Break Fishing Camp April 8th thru 10th, 9 a.m. thru 1 p.m. daily. Boats depart from Hampton River Marina on St. Simons Island. This is a fishing camp for kids ages 6 thru 14. It teaches them how to catch common inshore bottom fish, such as Whiting, Sharks, and Stingrays. All tackle is provided, just bring a packed lunch. Cost is $95 per child, per day. Jekyll Island Book Festival April 11th, 10 a.m. thru 3 p.m., at the Village Green Pavilion. Features include author presentations, book signings, live music, and book and retail sales. Also, a games tent where you can challenge family and friends to brain games. Easter Sunrise Service April 12th on Jekyll Island, Great Dunes Park. Service from 6:30 a.m. thru 7:30 a.m. Tabby & Tillandsia Garden Work April 25th, 10 a.m. thru 4 p.m. Pickup at Cassina's Tabby Cabins, Gascoigne Bluff on Saint Simons Island. Guests will tour 8 private gardens on Saint Simons. Advance tickets are $45, and can be purchased at www.cassinagardenclub.org. Also, a free marketplace at Hamilton Plantation Cabins at 1196 Arthur J Moore Drive, Saint Simons Island. It will feature local artisans and vendors, food trucks, an artists' sale, and tours of the Tabby Cabins.

A Little Light Music Concert Series May through September on the Saint Simons Lighthouse Lawn, on Sunday nights from 7 p.m. thru 9 p.m. May Event â€“ May 3rd, with The Tams performing. June Event â€“ June 7th, with Funk Brotherhood performing. Admission is $15. Bring your lawn chairs and picnic baskets with your favorite food and drink while relaxing by the seaside, taking in the beautiful scenery and inspiring music. Mayfair Saturday, May 9th Downtown Brunswick and Mary Ross Waterfront Park. This is an all-day celebration beginning at 9 a.m. for the Blessing of the Shrimp Fleet. The festival features fresh seafood, a shrimp boat parade, arts, and other entertainment. Georgia Sea Islands Festival June 5th and 6th at Gascoigne Bluff Park on St. Simons Island near Epworth. This festival celebrates African-American tradition and culture of the Coastal Georgia Barrier Islands. There will be live music, traditional foods for tasting, and demonstrations of handmade crafts. If you have never been to this event, you will come out of it with a new appreciation of the contributions and heritage of the African-American communities in the history of The Golden Isles.

First Friday in Downtown Brunswick On the first Friday of every month, downtown Brunswick will host an event from 5 p.m. thru 8 p.m., where all the shops, galleries, and restaurants will stay open late and serve wine and snacks. There will be live music in the Signature Squares, creating a festive atmosphere for shopping and dining. A great event for tourists and locals.

TRAINING AROUND CHILD WELFARE ISSUES Bi-monthly training open to the community, meeting the continuing education requirements for foster families. ROYAL FAMILY KIDS A week-long, overnight and trauma informed summer camp specifically for children in foster care. Ages 6 - 12 All Direct Services are provided directly to foster children and families.

DAY OF HOPE An annual celebration, hosting the amazingly resilient children in our region who are eligible for adoption, and also celebrating their hope for a brighter future. FAMILY FUSE EVENTS Semi annual fun events that create space for foster families to connect with volunteers and agency professionals to create unity. MEALS FOR HOPE Freezer meal program to bless bio, kinship, and foster families with a weekly meal. CARE COMMUNITIES Pre-existing group of individuals committing to serve a local foster or kinship family VOUCHERS Vouchers for local childrenâ€™s consignment stores offered to families in need of items to support their placement. HOPE CLOSET Located at DFCS and stocked to support the first 48 hours of new placements.

COMMUNITY SERVICES CAREPORTAL Technology that allows the community to respond to material needs of at-risk families identified by DFCS. When portal requests are met, it prevents removals and disruptions in placements. TRAUMA INFORMED COMMUNITY TRAININGS Our clinical staff is available to train local schools, businesses, caregivers, and others regarding the distinct needs and appropriate response to children from hard places. HEART GALLERY Innovative and strength-based displays of children waiting for their forever home that are utilized for awareness and recruitment purposes.
