don’t think this war was caused by any mistakes on the part of Georgia. It was Putin’s desire and aspiration to create a new Soviet Union and reunite the lands, - says Maxim Kuzakhmetov, a Russian journalist and historian, former host of Ekho Moskvy and one of the most prominent figures in Russia's independent media. In 2023, the Russian government declared Kuzakhmetov a "foreign agent" for criticizing the Kremlin's policies, Russia's war in Ukraine, and official narratives.
