It is with deep gratitude and great pride that I write to you as President Emeritus of Georgia Military College. Having had the honor of serving this remarkable institution for over a decade, I am profoundly thankful for the opportunity to have witnessed and been a part of the unwavering spirit that defines our GMC Family—our students, alumni, faculty, staff, families, and supporters who live out our values of Duty, Honor, and Love of Country every day.
Reflecting on my years as part of the GMC Team, I am filled with appreciation for the values we upheld and the progress we achieved together. From expanding access to college education across all of our campuses and GMC Online, to strengthening our Preparatory School, and enhancing opportunities for education and leadership development, GMC continued to evolve—always with the success and character of our students and cadets at the heart of every decision. These accomplishments were only possible because of the collective dedication of those who believe in our mission to develop educated citizens and contributing members of society.
As I look to the future of this beloved institution, I do so with immense confidence. Major General Terry McKenrick brings to the Presidency an exceptional record of leadership, integrity, and vision. Presidential Investiture & Change of Command Ceremony
Georgia Military College marked a historic moment on Friday, August 8, 2025, as the institution formally invested Major General Terrence J. McKenrick, U.S. Army (Retired), as its 22nd President during a Presidential Investiture and Change of Command Ceremony. Held in the NewDay USA Center for Leadership on GMC’s Main Campus in Milledgeville, the event honored both tradition and transformation, celebrating the legacy of Lieutenant General William B. Caldwell, IV, U.S. Army (Retired), and welcoming a new era under Maj. Gen. McKenrick’s guidance.
The occasion marked not only a transition in leadership, but also a reaffirmation of the enduring values, steadfast mission, and shared vision that unite the GMC family across generations.
The Investiture Ceremony, a time-honored academic tradition, symbolized the formal transfer of responsibility, authority, and trust from the Board of Trustees to the new President. For Georgia Military College, it was more than a ceremonial moment; it was the continuation of a legacy built on Duty, Honor, and Love of Country.
“I am so excited to lead this incredible institution with the honor and privilege of serving our Board of Trustees, students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and the community,” said Maj. Gen. McKenrick during his remarks.

With more than 35 years of distinguished service in the United States Army, Maj. Gen. For more than a decade, Lt. Gen. Caldwell’s leadership has guided Georgia Military College through a period of growth and achievement. The Mixed Raiders Team won the title of State Champions for both the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 season. Senior Tina JassoRios earned the Ultimate Raider title in the female division for the 2025-2026 season.
Senior Liam Beauchamp was recognized as the 2024-2025 STAR student for Baldwin County and the 2024-2025 BLAZE Award for Baldwin County, honoring the highest SAT and ACT score in the county.
GMC Prep’s One Act cast and crew won the 20252026 state championship for their performance of Beetlejuice. Jude Raburn and Bella Dixon received awards for Best Actor and Best Actress. Maddie Ryan and Luke Ivey were each named to the all-star cast.
GMC Prep earned the GHSA Region 1A Division 5 Sportsmanship Award. This honor celebrates the respect, fairness, honesty, and responsibility shown by our student-athletes, coaches, fans, and parents throughout the year.
Caden Lloyd was the first ever recipient of the Baldwin County Youth Citizenship Award; this is a historic achievement as he was the first recipient for Georgia Military College Prep School and Baldwin County.

CENTERS OF INFLUENCE PROGRAM
GMC selected Emilie Cook, Senior Staff Attorney at the Barton Child Law & Policy Center and member of the GMC Board of Trustees, and McKenzie Davenport, Chief Financial Officer of Fowler Flemister Concrete and Vice Chairman of the GMC Foundation Board, to participate in the U.S. Army Cadet Command’s 2025 Centers of Influence program. The experience provided national-level engagement with Army ROTC leadership and operations.
NATIONAL SECURITY SEMINAR REPRESENTATION
Dr. Tiffany Bayne, Vice President of Junior College, and Georgia State Representative Houston Gaines represented GMC at the U.S. Army War College’s National Security Seminar in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The invitationonly program convenes national leaders for strategic discussions on critical security issues. This year, 37 cadets were awarded the ‘Order of the Centurion’ award. This is the highest award a cadet can earn in the Corps. Cadets must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0, score a 270 out of a possible 300 on the PT test, and finally, complete the 12-mile ruck march in less than three hours wearing the OCP uniform, including a 35lb ruck and rubberized M16 rifle.

Honored with Historic Presidential Nominations
Georgia Military College proudly celebrates an extraordinary milestone. Three alumni from the Class of 1989—one from the Prep School and two from the Junior College—now serve in nationally significant leadership roles at the highest levels of government and military service, each shaped by Georgia Military College at a different point in their journey.
Their paths are distinct. Their responsibilities span continents, institutions, and generations of service, yet they remain united by a shared foundation forged at GMC— one rooted in discipline, integrity, and a lifelong commitment to developing others.
What makes this moment even more meaningful is not only where these leaders now serve, but how they continue to give back. Regardless of rank or title, each has returned to Georgia Military College—standing once again before cadets, students, alumni, and institutional leaders—to share lessons learned, mentor the next generation, and reinforce the values that shaped their own rise to service.
ALEX GRYNKEWICH
FIRST FOUR-STAR GENERAL IN GMC HISTORY
A member of the Prep School Class of 1989, General Alex Grynkewich, U.S. Air Force, made history when he was confirmed by the United States Senate as a fourstar general, becoming the first of that rank in Georgia Military College history. He now serves as Commander of U.S. European Command and NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), overseeing multinational operations critical to global security and alliance strength.
During his Senate confirmation hearing, General Grynkewich reflected on the formative role GMC played in his life, crediting the institution with instilling the discipline, resilience, and leadership mindset that guided him throughout his career. His promotion marked not only a personal achievement, but a defining moment for GMC and its enduring legacy of service.
Most recently, General Grynkewich returned to campus as keynote speaker for a week-long leadership development seminar for the Junior College Corps of Cadets. Throughout the seminar, he engaged directly with cadets, sharing candid lessons from decades of service, discussing ethical leadership under pressure, and reinforcing the responsibility that comes with command.
His presence on campus served as a powerful reminder that even the highest ranks are grounded in the same leadership principles first introduced at GMC.
BOBBY CHRISTINE INTEGRITY IN SERVICE TO THE NATION
A graduate of the Junior College Class of 1989, Major General Bobby Christine, U.S. Army, was confirmed by the United States Senate as the 43rd Judge Advocate General of the United States Army, a presidential appointment that reflects a lifetime dedicated to justice, leadership, and public service.
From his service as District Attorney for Columbia County to his role as Acting General Counsel for the National Guard Bureau, Major General Christine’s career has been defined by principled decision-making and unwavering commitment to the rule of law—values that align seamlessly with GMC’s mission to develop ethical servant leaders.
His connection to Georgia Military College has remained strong throughout his career. As a member of the GMC Foundation, Major General Christine continues to support the institution’s long-term growth and sustainability. He has also assisted GMC in its legislative efforts, helping to advocate for resources that ensure opportunity and access for future generations of students at his alma mater.
His continued engagement demonstrates that leadership does not end with appointment; it extends through stewardship, advocacy, and service to the institutions that made success possible.
REGINALD NEAL SERVICE BEYOND THE UNIFORM
Also a Junior College Class of 1989 graduate, Major General Reginald Neal, U.S. Army (Retired) was appointed Assistant Secretary for Operations, Security, and Preparedness with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, continuing a distinguished career of national service beyond uniformed command.
Over the course of his 37-year military career, Major General Neal served as Deputy Commanding General for U.S. Army Pacific, leading homeland defense initiatives and strengthening partnerships across the Indo-Pacific region. In his current role, he helps safeguard veterans, strengthen emergency preparedness, and shape national policy supporting those who have served.
His commitment to Georgia Military College remains deeply personal and active. Major General Neal serves on the GMC Alumni Association Board, mentors current students when on campus, and chose GMC as the site to host his retirement ceremony from the U.S. Army National Guard—a full-circle moment underscoring the institution’s enduring place in his life.
His ongoing involvement reinforces GMC’s role not only as an educational institution, but as a lifelong leadership home.

Fahad Abdulrazzaq’s Journey from GMC to Rhodes Scholar
When Fahad Abdulrazzaq arrived at Georgia Military College as a Service Academy Prep Scholar, he came with ambition, discipline, and a singular goal: Earn an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point.
What he could not yet see was how that single year in Milledgeville would shape a path that extended far beyond admission to one of the nation’s most prestigious institutions—eventually leading him to become one of the most accomplished honors scholars in the world: a Rhodes Scholar.
FINDING THE RIGHT PLACE TO PREPARE
Fahad learned about GMC after receiving an Association of Graduates (AOG) Civil Prep Scholarship from West Point, an opportunity extended to promising candidates who may benefit from an additional year of academic and military preparation before entering the Academy. Given a list of potential prep schools, Fahad did his research carefully.
“At the time, Lieutenant General (Retired) Caldwell was GMC’s president and a West Point graduate,” Fahad said. “His career trajectory was inspiring. I felt that at GMC, I could sharpen my iron among phenomenal officers and NCOs.”
That instinct proved correct.
A DEFINING YEAR AT GMC
Fahad describes his time at GMC as transformative—not just academically or physically, but personally.
“The faculty were incredibly impactful and always willing to pour into cadets,” he said. “Leaders like CPT Jared Smith, COL (Retired) Nelson Kraft, LTC (Retired) Rob Ramirez, and LTC (Retired) Duane Clayton played significant roles in shaping the person and character I aspired to develop.”
One experience stands out above the rest: Ranger Challenge
At the time, Fahad was selected as one of the first Service Academy Prep Scholars permitted to compete alongside ROTC cadets at the national Ranger Challenge competition. After months of intense training and team camaraderie, the GMC team earned Top Junior Military College in the Spartan Brigade, bringing home the trophy to Milledgeville.
“It was an unforgettable experience,” Fahad said. “That competition tested everything—discipline, teamwork, endurance—and it reinforced what GMC was building in us.”
ARRIVING AT WEST POINT—PREPARED FOR ANYTHING
Fahad matriculated to West Point as part of the GMC Class of 2020, arriving amid the peak of COVID-19 restrictions. While the experience differed from what anyone expected, his preparation at GMC proved invaluable.
“GMC taught me to expect the unexpected,” he said. “No matter the conditions, you keep your nose to the grindstone. That mindset shaped my entire experience at the Academy.”
THE ROAD TO RHODES
At West Point, Fahad committed himself fully to the Academy’s three pillars: academic, physical, and military excellence—a framework that mirrors the holistic development he first experienced at GMC.
Academically, Fahad focused on national security and foreign policy, driven by personal experience. Having grown up in Iraq, he sought to better understand the United States’ historical footprint in the Middle East. His academic excellence earned him the Stamps Scholarship, allowing him to attend international conferences and expand his global perspective.

Physically, Fahad thrived in competition. A lifelong combat sports enthusiast, he tried out for—and made—the Army Boxing Team, competing and winning matches across the country. At GMC, he had earned the title of “Fittest Man” in the Corps, and the heightened competition at West Point only sharpened that edge.
Militarily, Fahad embraced leadership. He eventually rose to serve as a Regimental Commander, leading one of only four regiments at West Point—a role that demands exceptional maturity, judgment, and trust.
He describes the journey toward becoming a Rhodes Scholar not as a single achievement, but as “an aggregation of micro wins”— small, consistent commitments to excellence that compound over time.
EARNING ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST PRESTIGIOUS SCHOLARSHIPS
The Rhodes Scholarship is among the most competitive academic honors in the world, with only 32 recipients selected annually from across the United States.
The process, Fahad explained, is deceptively simple at first: an application, personal statement, resume, and recommendations. But the competition is fierce.
“You’re applying against some of the most accomplished students in the country,” he said. “If you’re shortlisted, you go through a regional interview process that includes social evaluations and a rigorous panel interview.”
In Fahad’s region, 14 finalists were selected—10 from Ivy League institutions, particularly Harvard and Yale. After two days of interviews, only two candidates were chosen.
Fahad was one of them.
LIFE AT OXFORD—AND LOOKING AHEAD
Today, Fahad is a Rhodes Scholar at the University of Oxford, pursuing a Master of Public Policy at the Blavatnik School of Government with a focus on Security Policy.
“It’s been an incredible and reflective two years of my life,” he said. “It’s allowed me to build an international community of loved ones while allowing me the freedom to explore and dig deep into our nation’s toughest challenges.”
Yet even in one of the world’s most elite academic environments, Fahad credits GMC with grounding him.
“GMC taught me humility and the importance of hard work,” he reflected. “There is an immense amount of privilege associated with being a Rhodes Scholar, but my Georgia roots always remind me where I’ve come from and to always remember ‘Character Above All!’”
This fall, Fahad will return to the U.S. Army to begin his career as an Intelligence Officer. “I hope to take my years of preparation to lead and learn from our nation’s sons and daughters out in the force,” he said.

Whether a student begins their journey in kindergarten, competes as a Prep School athlete, develops as a Junior College cadet, or advances through GMC Online, each pathway is intentionally connected. That interwoven fabric—one institution, united by purpose—is one of GMC’s greatest values to the state of Georgia and the foundation on which future leaders are built.
Nowhere is that commitment more visible than in GMC’s recent investments in athletics and leadership training. These projects are not isolated upgrades or pathway-specific enhancements; they are institution-wide commitments, fully aligned with GMC’s mission and funded through a combination of donor support and direct institutional investment. Together, they demonstrate how GMC is reinvesting in itself to elevate students across every level of the Institution.
In June 2025, the sound of shovels breaking ground at 330 S. Warren Street marked more than the start of construction—it marked momentum. GMC leadership, coaches, student-athletes, alumni, and community members gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Waddell-Dunn Athletic Facility, a $2.4 million project made possible through a combination of generous donor support and institutional investment. It was a clear signal that GMC is willing to invest boldly in the environments where leaders are developed.
Just steps away, another significant institutional investment is rising. A 35-foot steel rappel tower, funded entirely by GMC through a $700,000 investment, is scheduled for completion in spring 2026. Designed to expand hands-on leadership training across the institution, the tower will serve Prep School cadets, Junior College Corps of Cadets, and visiting programs alike. It will also function as a regional hub for JROTC Rappel Certification and a key training site for JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC) Camps hosted on Main Campus each summer. Built to challenge comfort zones and strengthen confidence, the tower reinforces trust, resilience, and decision-making under stress—hallmarks of effective leadership.

At 9,180 square feet, the Waddell-Dunn Athletic Facility is purpose-built to elevate both performance and leadership capacity. Featuring a state-of-the-art weight room and turf training area, a team meeting and film room, and sportspecific locker rooms for football and soccer, the facility is far more than an athletic upgrade. It is a strategic investment in discipline, preparation, accountability, and teamwork. Opening in February 2026, the facility now serves as a training ground where student-athletes build strength, sharpen focus, and learn to lead under pressure—skills that extend far beyond competition.
THE WADDELL-DUNN ATHLETIC FACILITY A $2.4 MILLION PROJECT
Nearby, another investment is already making an impact.
GMC’s shared soccer field, used by both the Prep School and Junior College, recently underwent a $300,000 renovation funded by the institution. With a fully re-engineered subsurface and new sod designed for durability and highlevel performance, the field reflects GMC’s commitment to providing student-athletes with safe, competitive, and prideworthy spaces that support excellence every day.
That same forward momentum extends to one of GMC’s most historic athletic venues. Davenport Field is currently undergoing a $1.7 million renovation funded by the institution, bringing modern enhancements to a storied setting. A new turf field and LED scoreboard will transform the game-day experience while creating a more competitive and energized environment for student-athletes—honoring tradition while positioning the program for continued growth.

Inthe halls of Georgia Military College, one art professor has turned generosity into an art form. Jennifer Johnson doesn’t just teach her students to create—she teaches them what it means to care. Through countless small acts of kindness, she has built a quiet legacy of giving, always offering what she can, when she can, to help students feel supported and seen.
Since joining Georgia Military College in 2017, Johnson has been more than an educator; she has become a champion for students facing unseen challenges. Her compassion inspired the creation of the Food Pantry and Clothing Closet, a private space on campus where students can find free food, clothing, and personal care items.
A SIMPLE ACT OF CARE THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
The idea took root when Johnson noticed one of her students struggling. A conversation revealed

the student was experiencing food insecurity and there was nowhere on campus to turn for help. Johnson’s instinct was immediate: do something.
With support from college leadership, she transformed one of her art supply closets into a safe, private space where students could take what they needed, free from judgment. What began as a few donated items grew into a reliable resource for students facing tough times.
Johnson’s approach has always been personal and thoughtful. The closet is stocked with items students truly want and need—ready-to-eat meals, peanut butter, hygiene kits, and even professional clothing for job interviews. Every item reflects her belief that generosity means meeting people where they are, with items they actually will use and enjoy.
GIVING WHAT SHE CAN, WHEN SHE CAN
Johnson’s generosity is consistent, steady, and deeply personal. Each holiday season, she assembles meal boxes so students can take home ingredients for a special dinner with their families.
Her willingness to give does not fade even when her own circumstances are difficult. When Hurricane Helene hit her hometown of Augusta, her home was badly damaged. It left the second floor in need of repair even a year later. In her own need, she is still grateful for what she has – a warm bed to sleep in and food on the table. Reflecting on this, she said, “If it’s Chef Boyardee instead of drywall for my second floor because that’s what the students need, then Chef Boyardee it is.” That statement captures her generosity perfectly—an instinct to give, even when giving requires sacrifice.
A COMMUNITY SUSTAINED BY KINDNESS
Johnson is the first to say she hasn’t done this alone. The success of the pantry and closet depends on the kindness of her colleagues across Georgia Military College, who keep the effort alive through donations. Their shared compassion has transformed a small idea into an enduring expression of the GMC community’s values.
Her sense of giving runs deep. Growing up, a pastor instilled in her an understanding of gratitude by encouraging her to donate a quarter for each television in her house or each time she ate a candy bar. That early lesson taught her to see abundance not as something to keep, but as something to share.
LOOKING AHEAD: EXTENDING CARE EVEN FURTHER
Johnson continues to look for new ways to expand the impact of her project. Her next goal is to include pet supplies in the pantry, recognizing how much comfort animals bring to students’ mental health and well-being.
Through her generosity, Jennifer Johnson has created more than a food pantry and clothing closet—she has built a culture of care at Georgia Military College. Her example reminds everyone around her that generosity isn’t about giving a lot all at once, but about giving what you can, when you can, with a full and open heart.

From cadets who identified a need in their hometown and built wheelchair ramps and furnished homes for neighbors in need, to a devoted employee whose kindness has brightened our campus for more than three decades, these stories remind us that impact is made through action, compassion, and heart.
CADETS TAKE INITIATIVE: LEADING THROUGH SERVICE
In the Corps of Cadets, leadership is not just taught—it’s lived. In the fall of 2025, our cadets once again proved that true leaders don’t wait for direction; they find ways to serve. Acting entirely on their own initiative, members of the Corps identified needs within the Milledgeville community and partnered with a local nonprofit to meet them head-on.
BUILDING INDEPENDENCE, ONE RAMP AT A TIME
On October 30, 2025, cadets Colt Stockert, Nicholas Vancliff, Raphael Flicker, Kirkland McElreath, Taylor Buchanan, and Carlton Baker dedicated their afternoon to constructing a wheelchair ramp for a family in Milledgeville who needed their home to be handicap accessible. Without waiting for an assignment or formal directive, the team organized the project themselves— coordinating logistics, manpower, and schedules around their already demanding academic and training commitments.
Their goal was simple yet deeply meaningful: to help an elderly woman safely get her brother, who had suffered a stroke, in and out of their home. In just under three hours, they turned that goal into reality. The ramp they built symbolized more than accessibility—it reflected the cadets’ initiative, teamwork, and compassion in action.
FURNISHING A NEW BEGINNING
The cadets came together the next day to meet another need in the community. Colt Stockert, Carlton Baker, Isaac Baker, Taylor Buchanan, Mya King, John Rozance, and Nicholas Vancliff once again teamed up with the same nonprofit to furnish a new home for an elderly couple. With careful planning and teamwork, our cadets loaded, delivered, and arranged donated furniture—turning an empty house into a home in just three hours.
These back-to-back projects stand as a testament to what happens when leadership meets initiative. No one told these cadets to take action; they simply recognized a need and stepped forward. Their efforts remind us all that leadership isn’t about waiting for orders—it’s about seeing what needs to be done and doing it, together.
Military Heritage Weekend 2025
Honoring Service and Legacy: GMC’s 2025 Military Heritage Weekend
In early April, Georgia Military College proudly celebrated its 2025 Military Heritage Weekend, honoring the institution’s proud legacy of military service and leadership. The highlight of the weekend was the induction of the late Lieutenant Colonel Marvin C. Layfield into the GMC Hall of Heroes, the college’s highest recognition for alumni of the Corps of Cadets.
The Hall of Heroes pays tribute to graduates who have demonstrated extraordinary service to our nation while bringing great honor to GMC. LTC Layfield’s sister, Ms. Inez Hawkins, accepted the award on his behalf during the annual Military Honors Parade, an event that brought together
the GMC Family, community leaders, and veterans from across the region.
Closing out the weekend was GMC’s 23rd Annual Grand Tattoo, a stirring military tradition dating back to the 17th century. The event featured patriotic performances, including a moving rendition of God Bless America by the GMC Junior College Glee Club, offering a fitting tribute to the men and women who have served our nation.
Military Heritage Weekend once again reflected Georgia Military College’s enduring commitment to honor those who serve and to celebrate the values of Duty, Honor, and Love of Country that continue to define the GMC community.

Celebrating 50 years
The Junior College and High School Classes of 1975 Reunite
Fifty years after receiving their diplomas, members of the Georgia Military College Junior College and High School Classes of 1975 returned for Alumni Weekend to celebrate a milestone marked by friendship, remembrance, and a bond that time has only strengthened. Their 50th Alumni Weekend Celebrations were filled with laughter, shared stories, and a renewed sense of connection to the place where their journeys began. Each class had its own events throughout the weekend, but came together Saturday night to celebrate with the Mike Veal Band.
Junior College planning for the reunion began nearly a year in advance under the leadership of class captain Monte Washburn. Through regular email updates, classmates reconnected, shared progress in locating peers, updated contact information, and helped shape the weekend’s plans. Those efforts culminated in 20 classmates returning to campus to commemorate this special anniversary.
The weekend began with a casual lunch at The Brick, setting a relaxed and joyful tone as classmates reunited and caught up on life’s journeys. The celebration officially continued Friday evening with an intimate class gathering at Aubri Lane’s. The evening was made even more memorable by a visit from GMC President Major General Terrence McKenrick, U.S. Army, (Retired), and his wife, Liz, who warmly greeted the group and joined in celebrating this milestone.
More than a reunion, the weekend served as a powerful reminder of the lasting impact of shared experiences—and how the bonds formed at GMC continue to matter, 50 years later.

FIFTY YEARS, ONE UNFORGETTABLE WEEKEND
Many classmates of the GMC High School Class of 1975 reunited on campus for the occasion. For several, it was their first visit back to GMC since commencement. They were delighted to tour the campus and see the impressive renovations and growth that have taken place over the years. While many members of the class remained local, others traveled long distances to attend the celebration, including Eve Adams, who flew in from California, and Steve Torrance, now residing in Wyoming.
The weekend began with a reunion party graciously hosted by Gus and Helen Pursley at their home, setting a welcoming and celebratory tone. Classmates reminisced about their school days while sharing stories from the past 50 years. A special highlight of the evening was a visit from GMC President Major General Terrence McKenrick, U.S. Army, (Retired), and his wife, Liz, who stopped by and shared in the festivities.
Saturday night delivered one of the most memorable moments of the weekend when the Mike Veal Band took the stage. Led by Class of ’75 member Mike Veal, the band energized a large crowd, filling the evening with dancing, singing, and celebration.

Much of the weekend’s success was made possible by Gus Pursley, who played a key role in reconnecting classmates and encouraging their return to campus. Reflecting on the experience, he noted that many of his peers had not been back to GMC since graduating and expressed his joy at seeing so many familiar faces together again. A longtime fan of the Mike Veal Band, Gus added, “I am so happy they were able to play, because many of my classmates had no idea Mike could even sing—let alone headline such a successful band.”
As the Classes of 1975 departed campus, they each carried with them more than photographs and fond
memories. They left with renewed friendships, a deeper appreciation for GMC’s lasting impact, and the comforting knowledge that the institution will always be part of their story.
There’s a moment that happens at every reunion. It’s not on the schedule. No one plans it. It’s when someone pauses mid-conversation, looks across campus, and says quietly, “Remember when…?”
That moment surfaced again and again as members of the JC and High School Classes of 1975 returned to Georgia Military College. They arrived expecting nostalgia. They left with laughter, full hearts, and a renewed appreciation for how the knowledge, character, discipline, and friendships formed at GMC helped shape the people they became.
Alumni also notice something else when they return: GMC hasn’t stood still.
With renovated spaces, enhanced facilities, and a campus that continues to grow, it’s clear that today’s students have even more opportunities to develop as leaders. Conversations naturally shift from “Remember when we…” to “Look at what they have now.” It’s a powerful realization—especially now.
The GMC you experienced exists because others invested in it. Today, alumni have the opportunity to ensure that the same transformative experience endures for future generations.
Reunions offer more than a return to campus. They provide a chance to reconnect, reflect, and see GMC through new eyes—alongside those who shared some of life’s most formative years.

Every great performance begins long before the curtain rises. For more than two decades, a dedicated group of Georgia Military College alumni, donors, patrons, and community supporters believed deeply in the power of the performing arts at GMC. Through their steady commitment and shared vision, GMC’s original performing arts series, The Steinway Concert Series, took root—bringing music, theatre, and cultural experiences to campus and enriching generations of students and audiences alike.
That enduring foundation created the opportunity for something more.
Built on years of successful programming and community support, Georgia Military College proudly introduces Encore!, the reimagined Performing Arts Series presented by the GMC Foundation. Encore! expands upon this legacy by bringing world-class artists and nationally recognized performers to Milledgeville, offering unforgettable entertainment while exposing students and the community to cultural experiences they might not otherwise encounter.
Encore! launched in spectacular fashion with an opening performance by award-winning artist Yolanda Adams, joined by the Atlanta Pops Orchestra. Her powerhouse vocals
and inspiring presence filled the air with music and celebration, setting the tone for a season defined by excellence.
Presented in the GMC Theatre inside the NewDay USA Center for Leadership, Encore! features an expanded, year-round lineup that includes holiday concerts, comedy performances, summer shows, the NewDay USA Leadership Speaker Series, and GMC Prep School productions. Together, these events bring nationally recognized talent to campus while strengthening GMC’s role as a cultural hub for Central Georgia.

It is a profound honor to serve as Chairwoman of the Georgia Military College Foundation— an institution that has shaped my family’s life and stood as a beacon of excellence for more than 145 years. As a long-serving member of the Foundation and the proud mother of sons who attended GMC Prep School, I have seen firsthand the remarkable impact this institution has on developing young leaders of character. That influence is felt not only on our campus, but throughout our community and far beyond.
GMC’s legacy of leadership has endured through generations, and I am deeply proud that the Foundation plays such a vital role in advancing the school’s mission. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and the dedication of our community, we provide scholarships that open doors for students and ensure that financial limitations never stand in the way of opportunity. With a generous philanthropic commitment, Ted and Joni Smith named the Ted Smith Family Plaza. The prominent gathering space adjacent to the NewDay USA Center of Leadership is designed as a place of reflection, ceremony, and connection.

Georgia Military College Preparatory School has long been known for its academic rigor, character education, and leadership development. Today, GMC Prep is strengthening another essential pillar of student success—athletics—through the creation of the WaddellDunn Athletic Facility, a transformational investment made by GMC in partnership with generous donors.
The new facility reflects a deliberate commitment to creating an environment where student-athletes are given the same level of support, excellence, and opportunity that GMC Prep has always provided in the classroom. It is a space designed to cultivate discipline, teamwork, confidence, and resilience— qualities that define leaders on the field and in life.
ELEVATING THE ROLE OF ATHLETICS
The Waddell-Dunn Athletic Facility is part of a broader institutional investment by Georgia Military College to elevate Prep School athletics and ensure that student-athletes have the resources they need to excel. Just as GMC invests in academic spaces that promote learning and growth, this facility represents a commitment to providing modern, high-quality athletic resources that allow athletes to train, recover, and compete at a higher level.
Kayla Waddell, GMC Prep alumna and lead donor for the facility, shares that vision and is proud her family’s name will hold a prominent place on the building.

For Kayla, the decision to invest in GMC Prep is deeply personal.
“My time at GMC Prep School helped shape who I am today,” she said. “GMC Prep instilled discipline, structure, and a strong sense of responsibility at a young age, while also emphasizing character and leadership. For my family, GMC Prep represents tradition, opportunity, and pride. It’s more than a school—it’s a place that invests in students and helps them grow into confident, capable individuals.” That foundation continues to guide her long after graduation.
“I give back because GMC Prep gave so much to me,” Kayla shared. “The values, support, and opportunities I received didn’t end at graduation—they stayed with me. Supporting the school is my way of ensuring future students have access to the same experiences, resources, and encouragement that helped shape my path.”
For Kayla, that purpose made this project especially meaningful.

A FAMILY ROOTED IN GMC
LTC Ramirez joined the GMC Family in 2018 following a 22-year career on active duty in the U.S. Army. Currently, LTC Ramirez serves as the 43rd Commandant of Cadets at Georgia Military College, where he has worked tirelessly to strengthen the Corps and intentionally shape future leaders. Just one year after joining GMC, he was named 2019–2020 GMC Employee of the Year, recognizing his impact and commitment to GMC’s cadets.
The Ramirez family’s connection to GMC extends beyond Rob’s professional service. Tammy Ramirez, a longtime educator, joined GMC Prep School as a faculty member in 2022 and was named Teacher of the Year for 2022–2023. Their daughters, Sophia (6th grade) and Lyla (4th grade), are both students at GMC Prep.
“Because of their time at GMC Prep, our daughters are learning the importance of respect, patriotism, and selfless service, doing the right thing even when no one is watching. We hope our family’s commitment to giving back will encourage others to do the same and serve as an example for our daughters to follow,” said LTC Ramirez.

Launching the Georgia Military College Leadership Institute
For more than a century, Georgia Military College has been defined by its commitment to developing leaders of character. In July 2026, that commitment will expand in a bold and intentional way with the formal launch of the Georgia Military College Leadership Institute — a comprehensive initiative designed to serve both internal and external audiences through values-based leadership development.
The Institute is built upon the strategic acquisition of True Growth, a nationally recognized leadership development organization, by the Georgia Military College Foundation. This acquisition represents a catalytic investment in GMC’s long-term strategic vision and ensures the preservation and expansion of a proven leadership platform aligned with the institution’s mission, vision, and core values.
A PROVEN FOUNDATION
The acquisition includes all True Growth assets — its established client base, proprietary leadership curriculum, training materials, trademarked 360-degree feedback assessment, web-based training resources, newsletters, and marketing collateral. Together, these components form the cornerstone of the Leadership Institute’s programming.
Founded in 2007 by Lieutenant General Lawson Magruder, U.S. Army (Retired), and Byrd Baggett, True Growth was built on the belief that character matters and leadership is a responsibility. Over nearly two decades, the organization has delivered
leadership training to tens of thousands of individuals across Fortune 100 and 500 companies, the United States Army, and organizations nationwide.
True Growth blends curriculum-based learning with realworld application and assessment tools used for coaching, mentoring, and succession planning — adaptable for leaders at every level and across every sector. Its values-based leadership and character education framework aligns seamlessly with Georgia Military College’s enduring mission.
FROM STRATEGIC VISION TO INSTITUTIONAL REALITY
The Leadership Institute has been envisioned in GMC’s institutional planning for more than a decade. With the acquisition of True Growth, that vision is now becoming a reality.
Beginning in July 2026, the Institute will launch in phases under the leadership of COL Nelson Kraft, U.S. Army (Retired), Senior Vice President, and LTC Robel Ramirez, U.S. Army (Retired), Vice President. Together, they will guide the development of a scalable model focused on leadership training, individual and organizational professional development, and experiential learning grounded in real application.
The Institute will expand offerings over time to include team-building programs, tailored organizational culture development, continuing education opportunities, and immersive, hands-on exercises designed to build trust, resilience, and teamwork.
EXPANDING IMPACT — INSIDE AND BEYOND GMC
Importantly, the Leadership Institute will serve both internal and external audiences — strengthening leadership development for students, faculty, and staff, while also providing training opportunities
for businesses, nonprofit organizations, schools, and civic leaders throughout the region and state.
Georgia Military College has already experienced the impact of True Growth firsthand, having sent 33 current and former employees through the program. Participant feedback has consistently highlighted increased self-awareness, stronger communication skills, clearer leadership identity, and meaningful professional growth.
The acquisition allows GMC to fully integrate a proven leadership framework into its educational environment while extending its benefits to leaders across the community, state, and nation.
STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC IMPACT
As part of the launch, Georgia Military College plans to offer a free introductory leadership course to leaders in the local community. The Institute will also continue publishing the True Growth newsletter, fostering a “community of practice” through leadership insights, interviews with industry leaders, and connections to initiatives such as the GMC Leadership Speaker Series.
Beyond leadership development, the Institute is expected to contribute to local economic growth by attracting organizations, teams, and visitors to Milledgeville for training and professional development experiences.
Through the Georgia Military College Leadership Institute, the institution is not only preserving a respected leadership platform — it is expanding its reach and reinforcing its position as a leader in character-based leadership education.

fILLIng the gaps: TRUSTee mike Cobb’S CommiTmenT To oPPoRTUniTy aT GmC PReP
For Mike Cobb, service to Georgia Military College goes beyond board meetings and fiduciary responsibility—it is a deeply personal commitment to students, families, and the future of the community.
After eight years of service as a member of the GMC Board of Trustees, Cobb has seen firsthand the impact the institution has on its students and on Milledgeville as a whole. That perspective ultimately inspired him to establish an endowment benefiting students in GMC’s Preparatory School, ensuring that access to a GMC education is not determined by a family’s financial circumstances.
“I wanted to be part of the effort to sustain what the school is doing,” Cobb said. “The Prep School provides a real quality education—one that includes character education, patriotism, work ethic, and respect for others, in addition to strong academics. I don’t believe many schools provide those very important things.”
REACHING STUDENTS WHO MIGHT OTHERWISE BE OVERLOOKED
Cobb’s decision to create the endowment
was driven by a specific concern—students who are qualified to attend GMC Prep, but whose families cannot afford even partial tuition and do not meet the narrow criteria for full scholarships.
“I heard about a student who was well qualified, but the family simply didn’t have the resources to provide any financial support,” he explained. “With a limited number of full scholarships available, I worried about students who might fall through the cracks. I wanted to help fill that gap.”
His endowment is intentionally designated for students with the greatest financial need, ensuring that deserving students are not turned away due to circumstances beyond their control.
AN INVESTMENT IN FUTURE LEADERS
For Cobb, the impact of the endowment goes far beyond tuition assistance. It is about providing students with the tools to change the trajectory of their lives.
“This endowment is intended to be used for the most in need,” he said. “Providing an opportunity for someone to gain the tools they need to escape cycles of poverty, drug use, gangs, and other challenges is extremely important to me.”
Through his role as a trustee, Cobb has witnessed the transformation that takes place when students are given structure, expectations, and opportunity.
“I’ve seen what a GMC education can do for kids,” he noted. “I’ve seen leadership skills develop, ambition take root, and a level of maturity that you don’t often see
elsewhere. These students are our future leaders, and I want to help—in some small way—develop them.”
STEWARDSHIP ROOTED IN GRATITUDE
Cobb views his philanthropy as both a responsibility and a privilege.
“The Good Lord has been extremely good to me,” he shared. “Being able to make this gift is very rewarding, and I feel a responsibility to give back some of what I’ve been given. GMC provides the perfect opportunity to use those gifts for the lifetime benefit of our young people.”
That sense of stewardship mirrors the institutional culture he has observed during his tenure on the Board.
“What I have seen at GMC is a very professionally run institution that truly cares for its students,” Cobb said. “I’ve seen innovation and the ability to address problems head-on.”
MORE THAN WORDS
As a trustee, Cobb has had a front-row seat to the daily life of the institution—and to the way GMC’s values are lived out, not just spoken.
“When you hear words like Duty, Honor, Country, Character, and Respect at GMC, they are not hollow,” he emphasized. “They are deeply embedded in the culture of the institution. Our community and our country need those things to be taught to our youth.”
His commitment reflects that belief.
“I will continue to support GMC with my time and my resources for as long as I can,” Cobb said. “I am an unwavering supporter of what is being done here.”
Through his leadership and generosity, Mike Cobb exemplifies the role trustees play not only in governance, but in shaping opportunity—ensuring that more students at GMC Prep have the chance to grow, lead, and succeed.

inez hawkinS’ endURinG CommiTmenT To GmC PReP STUdenTS
For Inez Hawkins, Georgia Military College has never been just a place—it has been a lifelong calling.
From her earliest days as a student at Little GMC—now Jenkins Hall—to her years as a Preparatory School teacher, Junior College professor, advancement leader, and advocate at the State Capitol, Inez’s story is inseparable from the story of GMC itself. “I can hardly remember a time when I was not affiliated with GMC,” she reflected. “No one really leaves GMC—it stays with you.”
That enduring connection recently took on new meaning when Inez made the decision to fully endow a scholarship for GMC Preparatory School students now, rather than waiting for it to be realized in the future. The endowment supports Prep School students whose families lack the financial means to afford a GMC education—students who may not be high achievers by traditional academic measures, but who possess the character, resilience, and potential GMC is known for developing.
A SCHOLARSHIP WITH A PURPOSE
Like many scholarships offered at Georgia Military College, the Inez Layfield-Hawkins Family Endowment has a special meaning and purpose behind the name and intent.
“My parents recognized the relationship between education and quality of life, so it was incredibly important to them for their children to have one,” said Inez. “This endowment is a tribute to not only them but my entire family for their constant encouragement in my life.”
As far as the recipients go, this scholarship was designed with the average student in mind—the one who may earn C’s, who may take longer to mature, and who is often overlooked when financial aid is awarded.
“There is no shame in being an average student,” Inez said. “These students have a lot to offer, but they’re often
overlooked for financial help. Many times, they internalize that and think they have less to offer because their grades aren’t as high as the star student. I wanted to remove that barrier.”
Having spent decades in classrooms, Inez saw firsthand how financial strain could derail a student’s ability to remain at GMC—especially when that student simply needed more time, more encouragement, or more opportunity to grow.
“Those are students who keep businesses running and their communities thriving,” she noted. “They’re successful in ways that don’t always show up on a report card—but they deserve the same chance.”
A LIFE SHAPED BY GMC
Inez’s relationship with GMC spans generations. She attended GMC as a child, alongside her brother and other family members. Years later, her own son would attend GMC as well. Professionally, she began teaching biology part-time in the Preparatory School, eventually moving into fulltime teaching and later into the Junior College as a life sciences professor.

“I’ve met some of the students who have received it,” she shared. “Most of the time, I receive a letter from them. It gladdens my heart to know it has made a difference—and that a student has been given the opportunity to continue.”

When asked what makes Georgia Military College so special, Inez pauses.
Her service to GMC expanded further when she transitioned into advancement work—helping secure funding from the Georgia General Assembly and advocating for the institution at the state level. “Nobody comes into this world knowing how to do much,” she said. “But GMC needed someone willing to learn, and I wanted to help fill that gap.”
Across more than 18 years of service— and later roles with regional educational service agencies and consulting—Inez remained closely connected to GMC, its students, and its mission.

The Georgia Military College Foundation sincerely appreciates the generosity of donors who support the following funds, each of which is either building toward endowment or fully endowed. An endowed fund serves as a “perpetual gift,” with income generated from investments used to support its intended purpose. Any excess income beyond the designated award is reinvested to further grow the fund.
A minimum investment of $25,000 is required to establish an endowed fund, which may be completed over a five-year period. The list below captures all endowed scholarships and funds through Fiscal Year 2024-2025.

Frank Rodriguez (JC ’74) continues his lifelong service as President of the Machiasport Historical Society and member of the local School Board in Maine.
LTC (Ret.) Duane Clayton (JC ’79) reconnected with CPT Aidan Kerchner (JC ’19) on a mission trip to Honduras, sharing service and Bulldog spirit across generations.
Vincent Ray (Prep ’90) was promoted to Partner at Gardner Law Firm in Winder, Georgia specializing in estate planning, bankruptcy, and mediation.
Beth Camp (JC ’99) was appointed by Speaker Jon Burns to the GMC Board of Trustees, extending her leadership in Georgia’s General Assembly and dedication to GMC.
Wendell McNeal (Prep ’75) served as one of Georgia’s 16 Presidential Electors for the 2024 presidential election.

COL Nate Stone (JC ’00) assumed command of the 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, leading more than 4,000 soldiers with exemplary commitment to Duty, Honor, Country.
COL Charles Comfort (JC ’00) was promoted to Colonel and is currently a student at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania.
