Acknowledgement

of the Traditional Custodians of the Land

Georges River Grammar acknowledges the Caprogal People of the Darug Nation, the traditional owners and custodians of land on which this school is built, and pay our respects to their Elders, for they hold the memories, the traditions, the culture and hopes of Indigenous Australia. We also acknowledge the Darug and Dhurawal Nations for the role they play in the education of their children in respecting and caring for this land. May we also walk gently upon this land and treasure its memories during our lifetime.

Message from the Principal

Welcome to Georges River Grammar School!

It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to our amazing school and give you a glimpse into who we are and what we do at GRG. Our school has grown exponentially since its beginnings as St. Paul’s Choir School in 1984 and we are extremely proud of what our school has become –the School of choice in the local community that has developed the reputation of being a school that caters for and supports the needs of all students by pursuing excellence in all facets of education. We are also a school that ensures that every child who enters our gates feels safe and connected, and has an authentic sense of belonging.

At GRG, we believe in the power of a well-rounded education that extends beyond traditional academic achievements and embraces a focus on developing the whole child. Our curriculum is designed to challenge and inspire our students, encouraging them to discover their passions, develop critical thinking skills, and nurture well-rounded individuals prepared to face the world with confidence and curiosity. With a firm commitment to academic excellence, we also place strong emphasis on the arts, sports, experiential learning, and community service, providing a broad and holistic education that prepares our students for success in an ever-changing world and allows them to flourish and thrive.

We are a school that ensures that every child is known personally. The students of GRG are at the centre of everything we do, and the passionate staff at GRG are committed to providing a supportive and stimulating environment that encourages our students to excel. Through personalised attention and a nurturing approach, we strive to ensure that each student feels valued and empowered to achieve their full potential.

We are also immensely proud of our diverse and inclusive community, where students from different backgrounds and cultures come together to learn and grow; this diversity enriches our school experience, fostering mutual respect and understanding among our students. Embracing inclusivity involves recognising, celebrating and appreciating the wide range of backgrounds, cultures, perspectives and experiences that students, staff and families bring to the School, and we believe that involving parents and caregivers in an collaborative manner fosters a strong sense of community that encourages active participation in the School’s activities and decisionmaking processes.

As the Principal of GRG, I’m frequently asked about the distinctive elements that shape our culture at GRG. I’m convinced that it’s this very culture that distinguishes us. To address this inquiry, I highlight that GRG’s unique culture is encapsulated in three core traits:

1. A commitment to holistic education;

2. A nurturing environment of care, support, and community;

3. A pursuit of excellence characterised by unabashedly high standards and expectations.

We understand that choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make as a parent, and we are here to support you through this process. We invite you to read this Prospectus, visit our campus, meet our staff and students, and experience firsthand the warm and welcoming atmosphere that defines GRG.

A caring learning environment is what makes a school truly great, and that is exactly what GRG is. The School focuses on developing the whole person. GRG is one big family where everyone is valued, and genuinely looks after one another.

Our History & Christian Heritage

At Georges River Grammar, our aim is to provide each student with a Christian foundation.

40 years ago, the Rector (Fr. Tony Wood) and the Assistant Rector (Fr. Arthur Rossiter) opened St. Paul’s Choir School in the Rectory of St. Paul’s Anglican Church Bankstown, so that they could have a choir to sing the 1662 Book of Common Prayer Anglican Service each Sunday.

It was here,

in

Bankstown Grammar School moved to the current Georges Hall site in 1989, followed by St Paul’s Choir School in 1991. While both schools were entirely separate entities, the Schools had the same Principal. In an effort to extend this continuity, in 2004, the two Schools combined into one entity.

such humble beginnings, that the foundations of Georges River Grammar were established.

As the small school grew, the need became apparent for a Secondary School, which would see the Anglican and Uniting Churches in Bankstown create Bankstown Grammar School as a joint venture. In 1988, the Uniting Church withdrew from the partnership and Bankstown Grammar School became an independent coeducational Anglican Secondary School.

This journey of over four decades has transformed St Paul’s Choir School and Bankstown Grammar School into Georges River Grammar.

Our Community

Throughout the local community, GRG is perceived as a school of choice; one of the major reasons for this is that our community is at the heart of everything we do at GRG.

We aim to foster a sense of belonging within every student, parent, and member of staff. GRG is a place where everybody is heard, and relationships are developed and built with mutual trust, respect and empathy.

The hallmarks that define the GRG community are:

• supportive and collaborative relationships between the School and its families,

• open, honest and transparent lines of communication between all stakeholders,

• an enduring commitment to serving others and those communities in need; and,

• an appreciation for all the different cultures, backgrounds and experiences of those that contribute to this diverse, inclusive community

I love the GRG community and the family that you gain. I love that it is a caring environment. I love that the whole child is valued from their smallest wins to their greatest gains.

Year 1 Parent

There is a warmth and connectedness throughout the School that ensures every student feels seen and valued. The community at GRG is like no other — from the moment you walk through the gates, you know you belong to something truly special.

Our Approach to Excellence

The GRG academic culture is underpinned by emphasis on rigour and care.

We want all students to challenge themselves academically, but in the knowledge that there is a strong support network of teachers around them.

In this world, learning needs to be authentic and meaningful; it must empower students to become creative and critical problem solvers who are able to navigate our increasingly intricate and ever-changing world.

With

a culture of high expectations, all facets of the School are designed to work harmoniously in the pursuit of academic and wellbeing excellence.

At GRG, we want students to be immersed in the learning experiences we provide. Undeniably, contemporary society is a far more complex place than the world of previous generations. Education has changed significantly over the last few decades. We have moved away from more traditional, teacher-driven and impersonal methods of teaching, which focused on simply transmitting knowledge and testing students’ ability to recall facts.

GRG’s approach to academic excellence is underpinned by the five pillars of our Holistic Education Framework:

1. Teaching and Learning

2. Student Wellbeing

3. Sport and Co-Curricular

4. Service Learning

5. Experiential Learning

Learning at GRG is forward-thinking. We aim to not only prepare our students for the complex world they will inhabit, but to be leaders of the future able to excel in whatever pursuit they choose.

The holistic approach to education truly sets GRG apart.

Holistic Education at GRG

| Pillar One

Teaching and Learning

At Georges River Grammar, learning is rigorous and purposeful. Students engage in rich learning experiences that build community, develop character and support personal growth.

Strong relationships between teachers, students and families form the foundation of school, where every child is valued and guided with care.

Students learn with Specialist Teachers in Physical Education, French, Library, Christian Studies and Music. Additional support and extension are provided by our Learning Support Team and Gifted and Talented Facilitator to meet individual needs.

Primary

School

Our exceptional Primary School teachers aim to:

Grow Great Learners

We nurture character, goal-setting and reflection, helping students become confident, capable learners. Our evidence-based programs build creativity, flexible thinking and strong social skills, while ensuring solid literacy and numeracy foundations.

Embrace Best-Practice Teaching

Our learning programs are grounded in contemporary research and whole-class instruction that provides essential knowledge for all students. Teachers tailor learning to student needs while delivering the NSW curriculum.

Offer Holistic & Engaging

Learning Experiences

We recognise that every child learns differently. Through hands-on activities, visual supports and purposeful use of technology, we create engaging, inclusive learning environments that spark curiosity and support each student to reach their potential.

Use Explicit Instruction

Clear, structured teaching— especially in early literacy and numeracy—ensures students build confidence from the start.

Build Strong Literacy and Numeracy Foundations

Kindergarten to Year Two teachers use the research-based InitiaLit program to establish strong foundations in reading, writing and early mathematics.

Support Every Learner

We offer targeted support and enrichment to ensure each child is challenged at the right level. Small class sizes and a strengths-based approach allow us to celebrate each child’s gifts and provide tailored learning experiences.

Secondary School

Learning experiences in the Secondary School are rigorously designed to equip, support and extend students. We embed clear learning intentions and success criteria in the learning design and provide detailed, constructive feedback that empowers students to reflect on their progress. It is with this that every student is able to take ownership of their learning journey, setting aspirational academic goals and fostering a growth mindset.

Student Subject Autonomy

Between Years 8-10, students are able to select elective subjects to provide greater autonomy within their pattern of study. The range of electives offered at our school is extensive, and further subject options are added in Years 11 and 12, including options in extension courses and vocational learning.

Learning Support

Inclusivity is at the heart of our approach to learning. Every student is made to feel valued, supported and empowered to participate and achieve their best. Our Learning Support Team works in partnership with teachers and families to create an environment where diversity is celebrated and barriers to learning are removed. Inclusion means every learner is known, supported and celebrated for who they are and what they can achieve.

Academic Enrichment

At GRG, academic enrichment is more than extension but a platform where opportunity meets challenge.

We believe that students deserve access to aspirational pathways that stretch thinking, ignite curiosity and build resilience.

Our programs interweave internal and external programs and competitions designed to encourage students to aim higher and think deeper, challenging them to move beyond their comfort zone, foster confidence and instil a deep love of learning.

GRG also offers an Acceleration Program for select students who demonstrate exceptional abilities in a particular subject. These students are given the opportunity to undertake advanced courses earlier, enabling them to extend their learning and challenge themselves academically.

Senior Study Centre

The Senior Study Centre is a space within GRG where students can develop their academic skillset. It is a hub for secondary students and teachers that offers not only space and resourcing

for both workshops and clubs, but also a quiet study space and a place where students can get one-on-one support. The Secondary School Library and Senior Study Centre is open before school and open after hours for our study program ‘Study Hub’. For Study Hub, the School employs tutors to assist students with their homework and study.

In addition to this, the Senior Study team offer personalised support for Year 11 and 12 students during their study periods. This support comes in the form of academic mentoring, where goal setting and the monitoring of study plans occur. The Senior Study space is a communal space set up for senior students to use their study periods effectively. Senior students have timetabled periods where experienced staff supervise and mentor seniors through their studies across their Preliminary and HSC courses, offering specialised resources and facilitating the support of subject teachers.

| Pillar Two

Student Wellbeing

A Culture of Care

At the heart of our school is an unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of every child. Pillar 2: Student Wellbeing reflects our belief that students learn best when they feel safe, supported, and known. From Kindergarten through to Year 12, we nurture the whole person, academically, socially and emotionally, ensuring every learner is equipped to thrive.

Our wellbeing framework is built on strong, consistent relationships. Every student is connected to educators who understand them, encourage them, and champion their growth. Through dedicated pastoral systems, proactive wellbeing programs, and evidence-informed practices, we cultivate an environment where students feel confident to build resilience and pursue excellence.

A visible example of this commitment is the introduction of our School Support Dog, who plays an important role in supporting emotional regulation, connection and a sense of calm across the School. Working alongside staff, our support dog enhances our existing wellbeing structures by providing an additional avenue for students to feel safe, settled and supported. This initiative reflects our holistic approach to education — recognising that when students feel secure and connected, they are best placed to thrive academically and personally.

Kindergarten to Year 12:

A Seamless Wellbeing Journey

Our K–12 structure ensures continuity, connection, and long-term support. Students experience a consistent wellbeing philosophy as they move through the years, supported by teams who collaborate to understand the whole child — past, present, and future. From their first day of school to their final year, students are guided by staff who truly know them and walk with them every step of the way.

Key transitions are strengthened through:

• Comprehensive orientation programs in Kindergarten and Secondary School transition.

• Peer to peer mentoring programs fostering a supportive learning environment, enhance skills, build confidence, and help individuals navigate challenges, especially during periods of transition.

• Open communication and collaboration between Stage Coordinators and Heads of Year with families at key transition points.

• Leadership, service, and co-curricular opportunities that develop character and community.

• Cross-stage collaboration to support smooth academic and social progression.

Academic Care

Our academic care model integrates wellbeing with high-quality teaching. Each student is supported not only to achieve academically, but to understand how they learn and develop effective habits for success.

This approach includes:

• Guidance and support from specialised staff, including Mentor Teachers, School Psychologist, Learning Support and Enrichment Team.

• Structures that promote organisation, study skills, and positive routines such as Mentor Groups, IGNITE groups, positive psychology classes and peer support leaders.

• Adaptive teaching strategies that respond to individual learning profiles alongside targeted support for students requiring additional assistance.

• Personalised goal setting that grows independence and self-efficacy.

By embedding wellbeing into the academic journey, we help students build confidence, autonomy, and a strong sense of purpose.

Arriving at GRG genuinely feels like coming to a second home, where you feel supported, valued, and cared for. There is never any reluctance about going to school because it is such a positive and welcoming place to be.

I couldn’t imagine my children being educated, growing up, or being wrapped so beautifully in the care of any other school but GRG. It simply wouldn’t feel right anywhere else.

Kindergarten and Year 2 Parent

Pillar Three

Sport and Co-Curricular

At GRG, we believe that a truly excellent education extends far beyond the walls of the classroom.

We are committed to nurturing confident, well-rounded young people who thrive academically, socially and personally. Our extensive co-curricular and sport programmes are designed to inspire curiosity, cultivate talent and build the character and skills students need for life beyond school.

Sport

From the early years through to Secondary school, GRG provides a rich sporting programme that promotes health, determination, teamwork and friendship. Students engage in a wide range of sports – from foundational skill development to high-level national and international competitions.

Interschool Sport & House Games are a popular part of school life, with students competing enthusiastically in various competitions throughout the year. Whether learning new skills or training at an elite level, every child is encouraged to participate, lead and strive toward personal and collective goals.

Representative Sport

The School is proud to offer a pathway for athletes to not only develop their skills, but achieve success. Each year, the School sees a number of students progress through the NSW Combined Independent Schools Pathway to represent NSW and Australia across a diverse range of summer and winter sports. This pathway begins with regular opportunities to compete, with students able to participate in weekly inter-school competitions, gala days and representative carnivals in a wide variety of sports.

Creative and Performing Arts

GRG is proudly renowned for its vibrant and high-quality performing arts programme. Students of all ages delight in opportunities to explore music, drama and dance, guided by specialist teachers and expert tutors.

Throughout the year, the school calendar features an array of performances, showcases, and community events that celebrate student creativity and achievement. From classroom music to instrumental ensembles and major productions, the performing arts cultivate confidence, imagination and a deeper appreciation of the humanities.

Public

Speaking and Debating

Public speaking and debating are integral to developing articulate, informed and confident learners. At GRG, students refine their research, reasoning and teamwork skills through workshops, competitions and regular practice sessions. These abilities enrich learning across all subject areas and prepare students for future academic and professional challenges.

Opportunities for Every Student

The co-curricular life of GRG is diverse, dynamic, and ever-evolving. We offer an extensive range of activities designed to cater to varied interests, age groups, and personality types. Students can participate in:

• Music ensembles

• Robotics and STEM clubs

• Dance and languages

• Sports training and teams

• Outdoor education

• Drama and performance groups

• Lunchtime interest clubs

• Service-based programmes

These opportunities strengthen friendships, broaden social networks and allow students to explore new passions or extend existing ones. We encourage you to check out our annual Co-Curricular Handbook for more information.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award GRG proudly supports students undertaking the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. This globally recognised, non-competitive programme empowers young people to step outside their comfort zone and discover their potential. Through community service, physical recreation, skill development and adventurous journeys, participants gain resilience, independence and a strong sense of purpose.

Building Confident, Well-Rounded Young People

Co-curricular activities at GRG are an essential part of developing balanced, confident and well-rounded individuals. Participation encourages leadership, resilience, teamwork and personal responsibility – qualities that equip students for success in their schooling years and beyond.

Our programmes are shaped by the needs and interests of students, and we encourage families and learners to partner with us in expanding and refining opportunities. At GRG, every student is invited to explore, create, lead, and discover what truly inspires them.

| Pillar Four

Service Learning

The ‘REACH’ Program Service is a core value at GRG. The School seeks to instil this value and ensure that all students are active contributors to local and global communities. The intention of the GRG Service Learning Program is to provide participants with skills that cannot be obtained in a regular classroom setting. Underpinned by positive psychology character strengths, the program is guided by the GRG REACH Framework, a model that is strategically structured so that each participant is able to reach within to understand and develop the self as they reach out to others:

Participants will develop: by

The Impact of Reaching

Each year, all staff and students will engage in a variety of service acts. By working with local, domestic and international not-for-profit organisations, all staff and students will strive to project care to those within and beyond GRG’s gates.

To demonstrate this, all staff and students will engage in work that seeks to:

• Advocate

• Conserve

• Raise Awareness

• Sustain

GRG believes that reaching out to others can have a profound impact on the self; thus, in serving others, GRG staff and students will be reaching within, so that each individual partaking in this program gains a deeper understanding of the self – learning their limits, exploring their identity, appreciating their values and realising their potential.

The School’s recent international service immersion to Cambodia is a great example of the REACH program. Over two weeks, volunteers from Years 9-11 travelled to Cambodia where they hiked to local communities, engaged with locals, and worked in an elephant sanctuary to assist the local economy. Such life-changing experiences allow students to gain a genuine appreciation of what they have at home and at GRG.

Each year, the School calendar is full of service initiatives for others – both domestically and internationally.

| Pillar Five

Experiential Learning

GRG is committed to providing students with authentic learning experiences that open the way they see the world.

A range of practical learning opportunities exist for students to build on theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom, allowing them to put these skills into practice.

Our Camp Program

Our Camp Program is one of the defining experiences of a GRG education, creating powerful opportunities for students to grow in confidence, independence and connection with others.

Beginning in Primary School, students take their first steps into outdoor and experiential learning with a one-night camp in Year 3, before progressing to extended two-night experiences in Years 4 to 6. These formative years are marked by unforgettable milestone experiences, including travel to Bathurst in Year 5 and Canberra in Year 6 — highlights that students often describe as among their most memorable Primary School moments.

In Secondary School, camps become an integral part of each year group’s journey. All students in Years 7 to 10 participate in an annual two-night experience designed to strengthen friendships, develop resilience and build life skills beyond the classroom. Year 7 camp is intentionally positioned at the start of Secondary School, helping students quickly develop a strong sense of belonging. In Years 8 and 9, students extend their outdoor education through a combination of tent and cabin experiences, building confidence, teamwork and adaptability.

In Year 10, students participate in a powerful ‘sleeping rough’ experience that challenges perspectives, builds empathy and deepens understanding of real-world social issues, including poverty and homelessness in Sydney. This experience reflects our commitment to developing not only capable learners, but compassionate, socially aware young people.

Practical Learning Experiences

The GRG Food Truck is a recent addition to the School’s experiential learning program. Introduced in 2025, the GRG Food Truck is run by students and gives learners hands on experience in hospitality, customer service and event support. The GRG Food Truck has quickly become a favourite feature at School activities such as ‘Enterprise Day’, student-driven charity fundraisers, and school celebrations.

Students in Years 10 and above also engage in a range of work experience and work placement opportunities. Supported by the School, these students not only build their practical skillset, but develop their own workplace networks that they will be able to draw upon in life after school.

International Trips

Our International Learning opportunities are designed to broaden perspectives, deepen cultural understanding and prepare students to thrive in an increasingly connected global world.

Through carefully designed international immersion experiences, students engage directly with different cultures, languages and ways of thinking. Our well-established Japan Trip provides students with the opportunity to participate in authentic cultural experiences, develop language skills and build meaningful connections with international peers. Students return with greater confidence, independence and a deeper appreciation of global citizenship.

Looking ahead, we are excited to further expand our global learning opportunities, with future international immersion experiences planned in Europe and beyond. These programs will provide students with access to rich historical, cultural and educational experiences, further strengthening their understanding of the world beyond Australia.

International Learning at GRG is intentionally designed to complement our academic and wellbeing programs. These experiences challenge students to step outside their comfort zones, develop resilience, and build the confidence to engage with the world as informed, compassionate and capable young people.

I’ve never seen other teachers as dedicated as ours, and I’m so incredibly grateful for their understanding, willingness, and support.

Our Commitment to Sustainability

GRG continues to build on its commitment to modelling practical, environmentally responsible choices within its infrastructure. The School has progressively built upon its installation of solar energy systems, while a real time monitoring system allows students to visually see the energy production and savings, helping them learn about renewable energy in action.

The Future of GRG

Looking ahead, GRG is entering an exciting period of growth. In the near future, our brand new multi purpose auditorium will be complete creating a space for performances, assemblies, events and whole school celebrations.

We are also in the planning and development stages of a brand new Pre-School – Year 2 campus, designed to nurture our youngest learners. We will also be upgrading several outdoor learning and play spaces to create even more areas for exploration, wellbeing and active learning.

Parent Engagement Group (PEG)

The GRG Parent Engagement Group (PEG) exists to strengthen connections between families and the School, fostering a welcoming, engaged and supportive community.

The PEG provides opportunities for parents to be involved in the life of the School in ways that are meaningful, flexible and accessible.

The PEG supports community building by encouraging parent participation in school events, volunteering opportunities and key moments across the school year. Through these opportunities, the PEG helps nurture strong relationships between families, staff and students, and supports parents in engaging with their child’s educational journey.

The PEG also serves as a valued channel for communication, feedback and connection within the broader GRG community.

Throughout the year, the PEG supports a range of community events, including welcome gatherings for new families and other initiatives that bring our community together.

PEG Meetings are held twice per term and are overseen by our Principal.

All parents and carers are warmly encouraged to be involved in ways that suit their availability and interests. Whether through attending events, offering support behind the scenes, or contributing ideas, every level of engagement is welcomed and valued.

The people make GRG so special. Meeting so many families, including many of who attended the School themselves, and seeing first-hand how much it has changed over the years, while retaining its tight-knit community feel, is incredible.
