Facility condition assessments are no longer static reports; they are mission-critical tools for managing risk, guiding capital investment, and sustaining campus operations. This session presents a proven facility condition assessment framework developed through the evaluation of millions of square feet of higher education and institutional facilities across the country. Using a proposed assessment effort at Michigan Technological University as a planning example, the presentation illustrates how modern assessments move beyond point-in-time needs lists to provide lifecycle-based, data-driven insight. Participants will learn how assessment data is collected, enriched, and analyzed to support capital planning, operational decision-making, and budget prioritization. The session emphasizes scalable, portable methods that institutions of any size can apply to transform facility data into actionable strategies aligned with mission, operations, and financial realities.
