T
he oldest jewellery we know of is a handful of seashells, pierced for stringing and worn smooth by their cord, left in a Moroccan cave around 140,000 years ago. Somebody strung them to mark something: a bond, a birth, or a day worth remembering. We have never stopped. This is what jewellery is for, and it is the thought behind this summer’s collections and everything in these pages. After 17 years of gem hunting, from the Sapphire fields of Sri Lanka to our cutters’ benches in Jaipur, I can tell you a natural gemstone needs no story invented for it. Millions of years in the making, cut by hand, it simply waits for the moment you give it. Yours might be a wedding, a birthday, or a Tuesday that deserved better. ‘Made For Your Moments’ means exactly that. So read on, and this summer, when the moment comes, mark it with brilliance. 2

THE MAKING OF A GEMSTONE

F
rom deep within the earth near Kenya’s Tsavo National Park emerged a gemstone of extraordinary beauty – a discovery that would captivate the world.

CAMPBELL BRIDGES
Before Tsavorite Garnet became one of the world’s most spectacular green gemstones, it spent millions of years lying hidden beneath the East African landscape. In 1967, British geologist Campbell R. Bridges discovered vivid green crystals while searching for gemstones in northeast Tanzania and identified them as a rare variety of Grossular Garnet. At the time, the area was difficult to access and subject to mining restrictions, forcing Bridges to leave before he could fully explore the deposit. 39

Years later, Bridges resumed his search and uncovered a much larger deposit of the same remarkable green Garnet. Recognising the gem’s potential, Tiffany & Co. partnered with Campbell Bridges to introduce it to the world. In 1974, the gemstone was named the Tsavorite, after the nearby Tsavo National Park. Today, Tsavorite is celebrated for its vibrant natural green colour, exceptional brilliance and rarity, making it one of the world’s most prized Garnets. Yet, part of this gem’s magic lies in the feeling it evokes. Green gemstones have long symbolised vitality, renewal, and prosperity, and Tsavorite Garnet captures that spirit beautifully. Wild, radiant, and endlessly elegant, it remains one of nature’s most enchanting hidden treasures. 40
