Central Geelong and the Waterfront are full of exciting activities, and our Winter School Holiday Fun Guide makes it easy for families, parents and caregivers to plan unforgettable holiday adventures.
From hands-on creative workshops to performances at Geelong Arts Centre and free story time and craft activities at The Dome Library, there’s plenty for families, parents and caregivers to enjoy these school holidays. The Geelong Botanic Gardens come alive with Eclipse – In Bloom, a nighttime event by Laservision. Enjoy glowing installations, projections, and soundscapes that celebrate nature, imagination, and transformation.
This year, our school holiday program runs alongside the Tastes of Greater Geelong, giving kids the chance to join food-focused events. They can try the Food Tasting Trail through Central Geelong, sample new foods and flavours, try their hand at pizza making at the Crowne Plaza Geelong, or spend an afternoon with Urban Upcycle crafting “Tastes-themed” Spoonvillians or Cork Creatures at the Waterfront Carousel.
It’s a great opportunity for kids to get creative, try new things, discover their interests, and make lasting memories with friends and family while enjoying everything Central Geelong has to offer.

Getting to Central Geelong
Visiting Central Geelong these school holidays is easy! Whether you’re travelling from nearby, greater Geelong or from further afield, there are plenty of easy ways to get here. Once you arrive, Central Geelong is easy to explore, with shops, activities, and attractions all close together.
By Train
Take the V/Line rail service to Geelong or South Geelong Stations. Children travel free with their Youth myki making it an affordable way to visit. From Geelong Railway Station it’s a short walk or quick bus ride into the heart of Central Geelong.
Bus
Leave the car at home and travel by bus. A fun and sustainable way to get around Geelong. Children also travel free on the bus. Check out your transport planner here: Transport Victoria
By Car

Active Transport

Eclipse - in Bloom turns the Geelong Botanic Gardens into a glowing nighttime wonderland inspired by native plants, pollinators and Australian ecosystems.
Created by Laservision, the Australian company known for LUNA experiences worldwide, the immersive experience features light installations, projections and soundscapes celebrating nature, imagination and transformation through blooming landscapes, wildflowers and creatures like the Blue Banded Bee.

The Hill Mountain Bike Park

Enjoy some holiday fun at The Hill, testing your BMX skills. This public mountain bike park caters to all ages across four hectares. While you’re there, check out the newly refurbished jump lines for older children, beginner, intermediate and advanced. You may spot a professional BMX rider!
