No Injuries Reported From Truck Fire
Police Blotter
Staff Report
Help Wanted
Traffic came to a halt around 10 a.m. July 31 near the intersection of Mayfield and County Line roads when the cab of a double-axel dump truck caught fire in Chester Township. The truck, which was traveling eastbound, overheated at the top of the hill, Chester Fire Chief William Shaw said. “When we arrived on scene, the cab of the truck was fully involved,” he said. One driver who was stuck in a line of traffic behind the burning vehicle reported hearing explosions, which Shaw said was likely the truck’s tires bursting due to the heat of the fire. Shaw said there were no injuries, but the driver was transported to an area hospital by Mayfield Village Fire Department. Mayfield Village and Gates Mills fire departments provided mutual aid at the scene.

Perennial Gardeners Bloom With Success Submitted The Perennial Gardeners of Chesterland strives to be a successful working club that also gives back to the community. Over the past couple months, they’ve been busy doing just that. Club members teamed up with the Daisy Scout troops of St. Anselm School for their annual planting of Parkside Park and the bandstand in late May. Perennial members will continue to care for and maintain the area all summer long. In addition to beautifying the park, the Perennial Gardeners were also recognized with multiple awards at the annual Garden Club of Ohio (GCO) Convention event this year. The GCO currently consists of 113 member clubs across Ohio. The GCO awarded the Perennial Gardeners three second-place awards for: • Their Facebook page, which provides gardening tips and infor-

In addition, the Perennial Gardeners received 18 individual photography awards. Overall, the Perennial Gardeners of Chesterland earned an honorable mention in the Top Garden Club (medium-sized) category statewide.
