A collapsed home in Russell Township is finally being demolished after months of discussion about the safety concerns of the abandoned property.
Trustees Update Residents on House Demo By Emma MacNiven macniven@karlovecmedia.com Russell Township officials have begun the multi-pronged process of razing the abandoned and dilapidated home on Ridgewood Lane. Township administrator Melissa Palmer asked Russell Township
Trustees to sign around 10 letters notifying those who have a stake in the property, at 8460 Ridgewood Lane, of the township's intent to demolish the home. Included in that list is Paul Mileris, of Ohama, Neb., who was charged with taking care of the home after owner Victor Vilimas died in 2019.
The house has since deteriorated and collapsed earlier this year, prompting neighbors to express concerns for the past several months about the safety hazard. Trustee Jim Mueller asked Palmer to look for more people who should be notified. “I'm doing what's identified in
the records that have been given to us and I think we should stop there,” she replied. “I think it's already generous enough that we're doing that.” Fiscal Officer Karen Walder has also been reaching out to companies for quotes on the demolition, See House Demo • Page 5

West G Youth Wrestling Competes in Wolverine Strongkids

This past weekend 18 members of the WGRC youth wrestling team competed in the first ever Wolverine Strongkids Competition. The event consisted of seven different different categories, all based from real strongman competitions. From flipping heavy tires, carrying weights and pulling a heavy tractor. The kids started training for the event once a week since March in a way to get stronger for the next wrestling season. The coaches plan on putting on this event every Summer for the kids to help them stay competitive in the off season.
