Several Animals Rescued in Chester House Fire Eight Neighboring Depts. Help Fight Blaze Staff Report Firefighters rescued several family pets from a house fire on the 11000 block of Lyman Road in Chester Township April 24. At 10:43 a.m., Chester Township Fire Department responded to a call about the fire, which drew mutual aid from eight neighboring departments: Chardon, Gates Mills, Kirtland, Mayfield Village, Munson Township, Newbury Township, Russell Township and Willoughby Hills. “The fire originated in the basement and was able to be contained to the basement. However, the home did suffer from extensive smoke damage,” said Chester Fire Chief Andy Nagy April 25, adding there was damage to the basement and smoke damage to the first floor
of the home. Fire crews contained the fire shortly after arrival, the chief said. No residents or firefighters were injured, however, several animals were rescued from the residence, Nagy said. “The department was able to — along with mutual aid companies — rescue several dogs and a cat from the house, all of which have a good prognosis,” Nagy said. West Geauga Veterinary Hospital assisted with the transport and treatment of the rescued animals, he later wrote on the Chester Township Fire and Rescue Facebook page. The animals were provided with oxygen, Nagy said. Chester does not have munic-

“(The) guys did a great job,” Nagy said. “(I’m) very proud of them.” The fire remains under investigation by the Geauga County Fire Investigation unit, the chief said.
