Welcome to Memorial Day weekend gearheads. It’s the un-official start of summer( really on June 21st) but as you know with schools letting out and graduations taking place...it’s basically summer time event though the calendar doesn't show it yet.

Racing is pretty busy too all weekend long. Of course the INDY 500 rolls this weekend as well as the Coke 600 in NASCAR. NHRA has it going on this weekend too. All of this fun...ALL OF IT is because of who this weekend is really for...OUR AMERICAN HERO’s!

Memorial day weekend for most folks means time off from work, if you’re still working, back yard BBQ’s, going to some type of water, like the lake, river or ocean, depending on your geographic location in the USA. Friends come over or you go over to your friends or just doing what you call fun on a long weekend.

MEMORIAL DAY in America HONORS all those men and women who so bravely stepped up, went to fight for our country and defend our way of life...our freedoms ...our democracy. These men and women HONORED this weekend, and specifically on MEMORIAL DAY. paid the ultimate price...they gave their life in combat for country. Take at least a few moments on Monday and honor them...they have earned it form all of us….

For gearheads, a lot of the long weekend fun is centered around our pride and joy...that cool ride in your garage and driveway. There are car shows and cruise-in’s across the

1953 VIN 003 Cutaway Corvette Donated A ribbon cutting ceremony was held during the National Corvette Museum’s annual Michelin NCM Bash, introducing the more than 1,500 Corvette enthusiasts in attendance to the newest exhibit area of the Museum. Thanks to the generosity of donors to the 2018 giving campaign, visitors to the Museum will now be greeted by a welcoming admissions area leading to the completely revamped Gateway exhibit. A surprise announcement was made as part of the ribbon cutting ceremony. Ed and Teresa Foss of Roanoke, Ind., owners of the 1953 Corvette Chassis #003 (the earliest existing Corvette chassis) donated their educational cutaway utilizing the chassis to the Museum. The fully functional vehicle was built explicitly for educational and display purposes and shows the inner workings of a 1953. The project was more than two years in the making by noted Corvette restorer Kevin Mackay and his staff at Corvette Repair in Valley Stream, N.Y. The chassis was discovered in the mid-70s under the body of a 1955 Corvette that was being restored. The first three Corvettes were built on June 30, 1953, likely rolling off the assembly line in Flint, MI on July 1, 1953. Traveling to the GM Tech Center in Warren, MI where it was used for durability testing, the #003 car’s chassis reappeared in 1983, and later wound up on eBay in 2012, which is when Ed Foss acquired it. “We wanted to make sure Ed’s legacy and contributions in the Corvette community would be remembered here at the Museum,” said Teresa Foss. The new Gateway exhibit focuses on the back-story of Corvette – it’s influences, why fiberglass was used, how the iconic car got its name and more. Featured in the exhibit is a 1946 Stout Y46 Concept Car, the first fiberglass automobile and the only of that model ever produced; a 1947 MG TC Roadster, a British sports car introduced at the end of WWII, which began the sports car craze in America; and a 1951 Crosley, considered by many to be the first American sports car produced after WWII by an established automobile manufacturer. Returning to display post-remodel is the original 1953 Corvette emblem, which was switched out hours before the Corvette was slated to debut in New York, and a model of the HMCS Snowberry K166 - a typical Corvette class warship which is the namesake of the automobile. New artifacts being showcased include a clay model buck and modeling tools, and Firebird I concept car model built for Harley Earl. The Gateway remodel began in January 2019 and was completed just in time for the Michelin NCM Bash festivities, an event held annually the last weekend of April. The Museum is open daily, 8am – 5pm CT with the last admissions being sold by 4:30pm. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors age 62+, $7 for youth age 5-12 and free for children age 4 and under. Located in Bowling Green, Kentucky on the same street as the world’s only GM Corvette Assembly Plant at I-65, Exit 28 – the Museum is a membership-based, 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation. Racing Performance Taken from the Track to Your Feet PUMA and Pirelli have partnered to create a racing-inspired shoe. The new Replicat-X shoe was inspired by Pirelli’s CINTURATO Blue tire, a product used at the highest levels of racing, according to the company. The Replicat-X sports an oversized full rubber outsole, with a molded sock-liner. Pirelli’s unique CINTURATO Blue tread pattern on the sole—used to generate maximum traction during wet races—provides grip and control for the power under consumers’ feet. “Fast as a bullet, aerodynamic as a racing car, the shoe’s upper features a perforated Microfiber-suede on the vamp, with lateral mesh panels for breathability, providing the perfect fit to own the road,” according to PUMA. The shoe will be released under the PUMA Motorsports line. “We will break through the ordinary, tear down the trackside barriers and accelerate into the streets at full throttle,” the company stated in a news release. The Replicat-X will be pre-launched on May 15 on ww.puma.com.

MAY 2019: MAY 31-JUNE 1: PIGEON FORGE TN 2019 Smoky Mountain Auto Stampede: This is a two-day automotive event which is OPEN to ALL types, years, makes, and models of vehicles. All proceeds from this event will help purchase holiday gifts for disabled children and children that are in need this holiday season. We will begin meeting on

Friday May 31, at 2:00 pm at The Twin Creek Picnic Pavilion located in the beautiful Smoky Mountain National Park. The Twin Creek Picnic Pavilion is located on Cherokee Orchard Rd. in Gatlinburg. Twin Creeks Picnic Pavilion is the largest in the park and can accommodate around 150 guests and offers a covered eating area, multiple grills, flush toilets, and other modern amenities. After a couple of hours, we will begin our cruise through the Roaring Fork Motor Nature. Our two-day event wraps up on Saturday June 1, as we hold our annual Car Show for children in need during the holiday season. The car show will take place from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm, and will be held at The Track Smoky Mountains Go Cart Track rear parking lot (located at 4061 Parkway Pigeon Forge, TN). Entrance does NOT require an expensive armband, and if you choose to enjoy the rides, you can purchase points to ride the rides. The car show will be judged by the people who attend. Everyone who attends will have the opportunity to vote for their FIVE favorite vehicles. The Top 10 (or 20 if the entry numbers allow) vehicles with the MOST votes will win trophies-with the vehicle winning the MOST votes taking home our Best in Show trophy. The attendees under the age of 18 years old will also get to vote for their FIVE favorite vehicles and the vehicle with the MOST votes will win our Kid's Choice trophy. The auto club with the MOST registered and participating members will get to take home our Club Participation Trophy. Make sure you know how many miles you traveled to our event because the person who traveled the FURTHEST will take home our Longest Distance Traveled trophy.
