along with others folks I am around and friends. Hot rods, hot rodding is not about having it right now. It takes time. Whether you buy a cool car, build one from the ground up or do a combination of both by picking up a project some one wanted out of, it all takes time.

I saw this as a post on a friends FACEBOOK Page, thanks Dave Kestel, and grabbed as it just jumped out at me. I have heard this statement made a lot over the past year…might have

United Way to Auction VIN No. 001 2019 Ford GT Gulf Heritage Edition The Ford GT-40 with Gulf Oil livery took down Ferrari 50 years ago to make racing history. The historic moment is one United Way for Southeastern Michigan hopes to tap by auctioning the 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition VIN No. 001, painted in the same famous baby-blueand-orange scheme. The vehicle is expected to attract a sizable sum at the 48th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction, set for Jan. 19, in Scottsdale, Arizona. “The 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition instantly became one of the most anticipated cars in the world with its famous paint scheme,” said Joe Hinrichs, Ford’s president, Global Operations. “This car’s amazing history should help the United Way for Southeastern Michigan raise a lot of money to advance their mission of helping make lives better in our communities.” The 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition was created to celebrate the final pair of a string of four consecutive Le Mans victories for Ford. The same Ford GT40 (chassis No. 1075) won the race in 1968 and 1969. Sponsored by Gulf Oil both years, it is the only post-war car to win the race twice in a row. The 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition optional package marks those wins with the famous paint scheme, along with exposed carbon fiber accents for both the interior and exterior. The exterior features exposed carbon fiber A-pillars and sports unique 20-inch one-piece forged aluminum wheels in high-gloss dark stainless with black lug nuts. Orange calipers and silver rearview mirror caps complete the look. For 2019 only, the package features the No. 9 graphics on the hood and doors as well as a ghosted image on the interior door panels. Inside, Ebony Alcantara wraps the seats, instrument panel, pillars, headliner and steering wheel. Contrasting blue and orange stitching accentuates the seats and steering wheel, with a new seat embossment inspired by the original Le Mans-winning car, as well as clear and polished anodized paddle shifters. High-gloss dark stainless appliqués accent the instrument panel, door register bezels and xbrace to round out the interior. The Ford GT Heritage Edition also features a unique serialized identification plate, plus exposed matte carbon fiber door sills, air register pods and center console. 6

The Eldridge Benefit Team consists of motorcycle and antique car enthusiasts from Northeast Mississippi and Northwest Alabama joining hands with the community to lend support in financial aid and awareness of the Eldridge Children’s Home in Eldridge, Alabama. Since 1948, this home has given a home to children in all age groups without support from state or federal money. Most support is from the home-based church with many other churches, civil groups and volunteers lending a hand both in services and financial support. Riders from the entire Southeast USA arrive from all directions on the first Saturday in December, hence The First Saturday in December–all roads lead to Eldridge. When Tommy and Sharon Crague visited Brushy Mountain Prison (Petros Tennessee) for the first time they knew that they wanted to share the experience with as many friends as possible. Learning about the maximum security prison which housed many notable inmates including James Earl Ray was fascinating. Tommy and Sharon envisioned a cruise from the Middle Tennessee area to Brushy Mountain with other car enthusiasts. A Facebook announcement was released and very soon after, many in the car culture world expressed interest in attending the event. Little did Tommy & Sharon realize the amount of interest that the event would generate. At first they estimated that maybe about 30 people or so would attend the event. On the morning of the cruise, the Facebook page had received 7900 likes and 1000 shares.

A very diverse group of cars were in attendance including muscle cars, streetrods, and daily drivers. This diverse collection of cars arranged to meet at specified points to cruise to the event together. A large group of cruisers joined the original group that left from Madison in Cookeville TN. The weather was great for the drive on the back roads to the prison and allowed all cruisers to view the beautiful fall foliage.

Once everyone arrived at the prison, the cars were swiftly parked and all the attendees enjoyed a meal that included barbeque, cornbread, baked beans, and slaw. After the meal, cruisers started to enjoy the prison grounds and many purchased tickets to tour the historic prison. The tour guides were former inmates who offered a unique a glimpse of day to day life in the maximum security prison. Upon entering the prison a sign on the wall read â€œWelcome to historic Brushy Mountain State Prison. Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary first opened its wooden 23

doors in 1896, built by the hands of the original 210 inmates. Replaced by stone in 1934, it was Tennessee’s only maximum security prison for 113 years, housing the state’s most hardened criminals. Serving an average 200 year prison term in the early days, the worst of the worst walked through these doors knowing one thing: that they would never be walking out. This stone-cold fortress bears witness to notorious crimes and more than a few nightmarish deaths of some 278,225 doomed souls who once entered its steel gates, Welcome to Brushy, you’ve reached the end of the line.” The cruise to Brushy was a success due to all of the participants who had a wonderful time, the new friendships that were formed, and the initial idea developed by Tommy and Sharon Crague. I was saddened to see the day come to a close, but Tommy promised that this would not be the End of the Line and another Cruise idea is being developed for 2019.
