Mr. Willie Mack Alston, affectionately known to many as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully transitioned from labor to reward on February 7, 2026.
Willie Mack Alston was born on July 20, 1941, in Littleton, North Carolina, to the late Tom and Betsy Alston. He was reared in a Christian home and was baptized at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina, where his early foundation of faith was established.
He attended McIver High School in Littleton, North Carolina. Throughout his life, Mr. Alston exemplified the value of hard work and dedication. He was employed at Roanoke Rapids Hospital before relocating to Virginia, where he faithfully served at Newport News Shipbuilding for over 30 years. In addition to his long-standing career, he was also the proud owner and operator of L&W Convenience Store for more than 20 years, becoming a familiar and respected presence in the community.

Mr. Alston was a faithful member of Gethsemane Baptist Church for many years, remaining committed in heart and spirit even when declining health no longer permitted him to attend regularly.
He was a proud member of the American Legion Lodge and a man of many passions. Willie was an avid fisherman, a die-hard Washington Redskins fan, and a well-known DJ who brought music and joy wherever he went. He was also a true BBQ connoisseur who loved to cook and was known for “taking over” any kitchen he entered. Whether through food, music, or fellowship, he had a way of bringing people together.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gid Alston, Elijah Alston, Henry Alston, and Tom Alston; and his dear friend, Linda Powell.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted wife, Christine Alston; his son, Willie J. Alston; his beloved grandchildren, Brianca Newby and Elijah Alston; his sisters, Lucille Pleasants and Betsy Dawson; his sisters-in-law, Vera Alston and Jerlean Alston; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including Mayra Powell and family, along with many others whose lives he touched.

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free, I’m following the path God laid for me. I took his hand when I heard his call, I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work, to play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way, I’ve found that peace at the end of the day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah, yes, these things too I will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My Life’s been full, I savoured much, Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief; don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me, God wanted me now, He set me free.
