editorial Consecuencias de la aceptación

¿

Cheyenne

Consequences of Acceptance

W

hat exactly does that look like? This year at Visión we thought we’d explore this reality more deeply. Last year, if you remember, we looked at what it means to be visible as an out and proud LGBT person, which helps to lead society to its acceptance.

Incorporating LGBT history, themes and people into public school curriculum is up for debate, and as good an idea as it is, at this point it’s somewhat inconsequential. It’s relevance has lessened because as authorities debate whether or not to include it, the education is all around us and is disseminated in everyday living. Today, positive images of LGBT personalities and lifestyles are visible in mainstream film and television storylines and advertising, permeating most aspects of life in western countries. Every year some may see Gay Pride marches as frivolous and Carnival-like. But Pride festivals are also very much about visibility and acceptance in addition to the decriminalization of homosexuality, AIDS awareness, marriage equality, parenting, and presenting a stand against discrimination and violence toward the LGBT community. As we step forward in achieving equal rights globally, in many countries atrocities are still being committed against LGBT communities. There seems to be a backlash, or violent reaction to the hard-fought progress made, highlighting the struggle is alive and well today. Discussion about the subject at least brings the openness necessary to usher in tolerance. But dare I say, what we need today is not just tolerance, but overall acceptance. Let’s continue the discussion, and accept the diversity, All Inclusive, All Together, Cheyenne

The magazine is a LGBT arts and culture magazine that explores the subculture by looking at what is important to the people who are in it. It’s about the lives we lead, not the traditional lifestyles society may believe we’re supposed to lead. Its content is informed and insightful; featuring a diverse range of writers from every section of the community. Its intent is to help LGBT readers learn a little about Sitges, their own heritage sustaining the connection between the present and the past, and to create a link with likeminded associations and municipal entities.

¿REALIDAD O FICCION? por

MArtín martín san juan

E

OF THE LGBT COMMUNITY IN

SITGES

¿REALity Or FICtION? by

MArtín martín san Juan

T

his year I want to dedicate this article to evaluate the reality of the acceptance of our community in Sitges. Does our village receive the LGBT community with open arms, or would they rather we weren’t so “out”?

To begin with, I want to highlight once more how unique Sitges is in comparison to other LGBT destinations around the world. With a “fixed” population of 28.000 inhabitants, which increases exponentially during the summer season, Sitges has a high concentration of residencial and visiting LGBT folk in relation to its size. This makes our community become very visible at certain times of the year, like at the beginning of June with the Sitges Gay Pride and at the beginning of September with the International Bears Meeting. “With so many puffs out and about”—as some might say, what does the population, which considers itself “heterosexual”, really think of us? Generally, minorities are not threatening and are tolerated if their public behaviour is appropriate. But what happens when the tables turn and you are in the minority? Do you just accept it or does it create jealousy, fear, and maybe even hate?

At an international level due to the normalisation of an LGBT reality in areas such as business, politics, education, media, the arts, and in cinema, etc., it appears as if this generates a sentiment of intolerance in some people that can lead to fatal incidents like the tragedy of the Pulse discotheque in Orlando last June. It’s as though there’s a feeling of loss hegemony, a loss of power (“Are we becoming a minority now?”), and there is a reaction to reject this imaginary loss.

I believe, fortunately the LGBT community in Sitges is generally accepted (there will always be some exceptions, of course) by the simple fact that our reality in the village has over a century of history behind it, which has made the town grow and evolve with gay and lesbian inhabitants as part of everyday life. This could give us some hope for the future in other parts of the world where they are not as “advanced” or steeped in LGBT history like Sitges. Only time, visibility and acceptance will make the normalisation of our community a global reality.

Having said this, I have a small criticism directed at the local government—it is true that in the last few years the Town Hall is engaging more and more with LGBT causes, but what I see missing is proud acceptance. Why is it so hard for our municipal rulers to openly accept the LGBT reality of our town? Why is there nothing in the tourism publicity that speaks about Sitges as an LGBT destination, a place where an LGBT visitor can feel safe and welcomed?

will make the normalisation of our LGBT community a global reality Meanwhile, we at GSL we endeavour to add our small contribution to the acceptance of our community through the visibility that we exhibit as an association and with participation in the events and daily life of the town. As an example we can mention our participation in the Corpus Christi festivities which started last year with the creation of a flower carpet created by our members. We also highlight here, that we received an award from the Town Hall last December for our White Party with a Heart, in recognition as the best participative event of the year. In summary, although the acceptance of the LGBT community in Sitges is a reality, we can’t be complacent. In light of recent political events which show that unthinkable situations can be-

come a reality without time to react. This

is why I want to encourage you to join the association to reinforce our acceptance. Fancy signing up?

Last year we had the idea of setting up an art installation in front of the Monument Against Homophobia – on the sea promenade next to the restaurant Kansas – to commemorate International Day Against LGTBphobia (May 17th) and raise awareness of the state of LGBT rights around the world. On the grass the raised the flags of the 72 countries that still criminalize homosexuality. Given the success of the installation we intend to repeat it in 2017.

etween the last half of 2016 and the first months of 2017 we’ve had much activity at the association. On one hand with brand new events and actions, and on the other with existing projects that have grown, reaching more people.

On the last Sunday in May we participated for the first time in the Corpus Christi celebrations. We built a floral carpet on the sea promenade for which a good number of volunteers took part in its creation. The public reaction to our “homage” to Sesame Street’s Ernie and Bert was very positive.

we participated for the first time in the Corpus Christi celebrations.

At GSL we’re very proud of having participated for the first time in such traditional and important event for the village. Therefore this year we will be putting extra effort to impress with the floral carpet design. For the first time, and after a collaboration agreement between AFGAL and Gay Sitges Link, we integrated the activities of our traditional Cultural Pride with the events of Sitges Gay Pride. This meant that we were able to include our events in the official program. On Thursday we organized the reading of a manifest on the Pride stage and the raising of the rainbow flag with the participation of the mayor, representatives of the town hall and several activists. Also for the first time, the parade on Sunday was headed by a marching group with the banner “Sitges Against Transphobia". An important aspect of this collaboration agreement with AFGAL was that our White Party with a Heart had a publicity boost compared with previous years as we could sell T-shirts at our stand in the sea promenade and to advertise the event on the Pride stage. This made possible that we could double the amount of money collected compared to last year so we decided to split the donations between two local charities: Caritas and Ave Maria Foundation. After an exhausting month of June full of activities and events – two conferences, summer barbecue, exclusive première of the film “Viva” in collaboration with the Sitges Cine Club, etc. - we took a well-deserved summer break from which we returned with renewed strength at the beginning of October

to celebrate our 5th Anniversary Party with a buffet-dinner in Queenz restaurant which also included the famous Kumas show. This was the least we could do to celebrate five years of existence since that first meeting in the Hotel Romantic on October 1st 2011. Five years on, we feel that we are well established within the Sitges community and that we have become the LGBT association of reference for the authorities and other local associations in Sitges.

¿Necesitas mas excusas para unirte a nosotros?

¡Te esperamos!

Another event of which we’re very proud was held for World AIDS Day (December 1st). For this occasion we organised a participative action consisting of a canvass with a drawn ribbon where we invited passersby to leave the prints of their hands painted in red. This way we wanted to contribute to the awareness of the disease through individual participation. Once completed, the canvass was hung on the outside wall of the association's office for public display. To put the icing of the cake on such an intense year, we had the immense honour of receiving the Award for the Best Participatory Initiative at the “Sitges Participa” awards given by the Town Hall. We were awarded for the organisation of the White Party with a Heart event. Once more as an association we are very proud that our small contribution to the Sitges community was acknowledged and this encourages us to continue working on projects where all can participate. This is a quick summary of our activities in the last twelve months. If you want to find out more about the other events we invite you to visit our website, Facebook page, or better yet, come to the office to see us in person. Our intention is to continue to grow as an association and to make ourselves even more visible; because only through visibility and participation in the daily life of the town we will achieve integration and full acceptance. Do you need more excuses to join us?

We are waiting for you! 16

MASACRE en el MASSACRE in

PULSE NIGHTCLUB ORLANDO FLORIDA Por By Collin Fallesen

E

against the crimes being perpetrated against them every day. Actions by US politicians to increase gun controls failed, as President Obama faced the realization that the NRA and it’s Republican allies would never relinquish their firearms.

O

On the first anniversary of the massacre, the world is facing some of its greatest challenges. The lessons of that hot summer night in June are fading into history, but the trauma and loss for the families involved will never pass.

n June 11th, 2016, the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, was hosting its weekly Latin Party, drawing a predominantly young, Hispanic crowd.

Arab-American Omar Mateen dodged off-duty police officer Adam Gruler, who was working as club security, and entered the building armed with a semi-automatic rifle and pistol. He went on a murderous rampage, killing 49 and injuring another 53. Subsequently, Police killed him in a gunfight inside the club three hours after the killings began.

Recent terror attacks in Paris, Stockholm and London are evidence that the threat to our personal safety is still there. The only power we have in the face of these ongoing threats is to live our lives without fear, filled with love and joy—#LoveWins.

The Pulse Nightclub Massacre was the single deadliest attack on US soil since 9-11, and the worst hate crime against America’s LGBT community ever recorded. Following the attack, memorials took place around the world, including a vigil held in Sitges, and galvanized Memorial en Sitges por la masacre de Orlando | Sitges Memorial for the global LGBT community the Orlando massacre (Foto | Photo Jorge Pereira)

La amenaza continúa

Por By Cheyenne Crump

N

But in 2013 a law was passed that really started the latest swing in public opinion. The law banned the spreading of "propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations" to minors, basically making it illegal to equate straight and gay relationships as well distributing any material on gay rights.

wasn’t aware there were no gay people in the Chechen Republic, the southern Russian autonomous region referred to as Chechnya. At least that was the official stance of its government at the beginning of 2016. The pendulum of acceptance has swung back and forth over the past few years, and it seems with every great swing forward in LGBT equal rights, as in Newton’s third law of physics, there is an equal and opposite reaction—the kidnapping, detention and torture of gay men in Chechnya. This past April, the Novaya Gazeta (New Gazette / Nueva Gaceta) a Russian newspaper reported, at least 100 men had been captured and jailed at secret prisons on suspicion of being gay. The newspaper is well known in Russia for its investigative and critical coverage of the nations’ political and social affairs, and was set up with help by Mikhail Gorbachev using the cash award from his Nobel Peace Prize. A spokesman for Chechen leader, Ramzan Kadyrov claimed "there are no gay people in Chechnya". The statement is not only incredible, but also incredibly dangerous. Today homosexuality is again taboo, gay imagery is forbidden, and gay men often marry women to camouflage their sexuality. It needs to be said, that after the fall of the Soviet Union back in 1991, some of Russia’s anti-LGBT laws were liberalized; it was Gorbachev’s Glasnost or “openness” which ushered in the change. Homosexual relationships were decriminalized relatively

Up until press time, the Russian government had yet to intervene, although United Nations human rights experts called upon it as protests against the happenings were held by Chechnya’s LGBT community and at Russian embassies around the world. Dmitry Peskov, a spokesperson for Russian president Vladimir Putin, denied evidence of any detention or torture of gay men in the republic. Posing as gay men on social media networking sites, authorities found their victims. Men who responded or engaged with the conspirator were detained, according to Chechen gay men who made it to safety. Mr. Kadyrov strongly promotes nationalism and traditionalism, which ties in with studies that suggest extreme antigay responses like these attacks seem to be about a threat to a gay-basher’s cultural integrity. Maintaining and reinforcing a culture's gender structure is a big part of their agenda, and unfortunately it puts pressure on all people to conform to a narrow standard of appropriate gender behaviour. Those who commit hate crimes attach negative associations and evaluations to LGBT people. We now see an increasing number of countries around the world accepting homosexuality as part of normal human existence (as opposed to as an illness); and we see an antigay sentiment on the rise—in the extreme, leading to violence and even brutality. Here in Spain, we have also experienced a relatively small reaction to more liberal attitudes and gains in equal rights. According to gay rights group Arcópoli, the Madrid region experienced a significant rise in homophobic attacks in the first few months of last year with the most reported assaults located in Chueca, the gay neighbourhood of the city. Despite being internationally regarded as one of the most tolerant countries towards homosexuality, clearly the threat of violence remains.

TRANSGENDER DEATHS

SA - 2016/17 saw a dramatic increase in the number of transwomen (women who were assigned male at birth), especially transwomen of colour, killed in the USA. Black and Latina women who suffer disproportionate levels of poverty are also at greatest risk of abuse and murder. However, Brazil was named as the most dangerous place in the world for LGBT people based on the number of deaths of both transgender women and gay men.

In Turkey, the murder of transgender activist and sex worker, Hande Kader in August 2016 sparked international outcry, finally bringing the issue to the mainstream press around the world. Her body was found burned beyond recognition after being repeatedly raped and tortured. Kader made the news earlier in the year when she resisted the police’s brutal attempts to break up a peaceful LGBT pride rally with rubber bullets and water cannons. Her death shocked the world and became a battle cry for better protection, better policing and better opportunities for one of the most marginalised groups in society.

TRANSGENDER RIGHTS The battle for transgender rights rages in countries around the world, with the Indian government only permitting Hijra (an eunuch or a person whose birth sex is male but who identifies as female or as neither male nor female) to vote or to hold elected office in 2016. In July 2016, India’s Upper House passed the Transgender Persons Bill, offering protections to the country's large Hijra community, also providing protection from slavery and enforced exile. In the United States, the infamous House Bill 2 or HB2 Bathroom Bill caused a bitter war between the Christian lobby and equality campaigners. The bill dictated that persons should only use public washrooms designated for their birth gender. North Carolina lost millions of dollars in revenue when events organisers, businesses and the NCAA sporting body withdrew from the state in protest. A compromise deal agreed in March 2017 seemed to make little difference.

sterilised before they would recognise his gender. The case continues… and on 17 April 2017, the European Court ruled that the enforced sterilisation of transgender people violated their human rights. Twentytwo European countries that required sterilisation for legal gender recognition were urged to update their laws. Denmark, Sweden and the UK had already updated theirs.

17/06 LOS MEDIOS DE COMUNICACIÓN

THE MEDIA

E

merica’s LGBT media monitoring watchdog, GLAAD report dramatic improvements in diversity and visibility in recent years. Services like Netflix and Amazon Prime offer the most diverse and inclusive characters and storylines, with mainstream scheduled TV and movies falling far behind. With that being said, there has been great progress over the past year. The most momentous step came from the smallest of touches in Disney’s 2017 live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, which caused an uproar in Russia and a few other anti-gay nations, resulting in adult ratings and threats of boycotts—even in the USA. The new Power Rangers movie received similar reaction over a throwaway comment about a female lead character having girlfriend trouble. But positive reactions far outweighed the negative when it came to gay representation, with the film Moonlight winning awards around the world for its unique portrayal of a gay black man growing up in Miami.

The story has not been so positive for print media and sadly, many longstanding businesses fell victim to the changing digital climate and the global recession. The UK’s largest media and retail business, the Millivres Prowler Group selling off key brands like Diva and GT (Gay Times) magazines, while Germany’s Bruno Gmünder filed for bankruptcy, taking with it the Spartacus International Gay Guide and a host of magazines and erotic art books. In the US it was reported that both The Advocate and OUT magazines were up for sale, and in Australia, LGBT publisher, Evo Media closed.

ith the rise of the far right across the globe, the left wing protest movement has found new ground. Following the election of US President Trump, demonstrations against the removal of hard won LGBT equality, and rights for women took place across the world. Pride committees everywhere began to reassess their raison d’étre and Pride Marches are increasingly replacing the party parades that seem to have become the norm worldwide. With Russia facing the European Court of Human Rights for its 100-year ban on Moscow Pride, and the increasing threat to the gains made over the past 50 years, the world is entering a new era of activism and resistance.

D

PrEP for HIV/AIDS

A

fter it was revealed that Truvada, commonly used to control HIV, could also be used to prevent initial infection, Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, or PrEP became the buzz with gay men across the globe. England’s public health system refused to make it available and were sued by a London HIV charity, resulting in the drug being made available on trial. In 2017 Health Scotland said it would make the drug available, while in Canada, people flocked across the border to the USA to buy their supplies at great cost. Australia too made the drug available through limited trials as governments waited for the exclusive license to expire before securing generic forms of the drug at much reduced prices. Despite the lack of availability, new, private services opened up sourcing the generic pills from India and within the past year, sexual health clinics across London began to report huge drops in new HIV infections, despite up to a 200% increase in testing. And for 2018, it’s hoped this pattern will be repeated across the globe.

We know Panteres Grogues is a non-profit organization that aims to provide a place where gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people can freely participate in team sports and that the association is open to everyone; however as its reputation is that it is an LGBT organization…

As is custom, in the sports world what we hear from the gay men and women is the usual deafening silence, which speaks volumes about their hesitation for fear of being ostracized. Leading the defence against, and preventing the spread of

Out of curiosity, are there any “straight” athletes in your membership? Yes. We have many of our club members are heterosexual. Not only do we have straight members, but we are fully integrated in all the tasks of

the club. There are some who participate as volunteers in organizing activities, training and there are even heterosexual board members. We are an inclusive club, so we are not worried about the sexual orientation of our members as long as you breathe an air of full respect for all the people who come to participate in our activities.

Do you think LGBT athletes are taken seriously in terms of sport today? Generally, are they accepted or excluded? I think the most important thing in sport is to demonstrate skill. If an athlete of an LGBT group like ours is able to demonstrate skill, everything else (sexuality, prejudice etc.) is secondary. Skill brings credibility, and this makes them take you seriously.

One of the objectives of Panteres Grogues is to fight against homophobia in the world of sport, and to help make stadiums welcoming environments for LGBT people, places where all fans feel comfortable. And through your website you encourage people to report cases of homophobia in sport by directly reporting to you…

Right now our federated women's volleyball team is first in its classification in the Catalonian third division. This is showing skill. If we as an organization, do not take this team seriously, we wouldn’t be prepared for victory. Acceptance by the other teams towards ours is increasing.

Can You See Us?

Por By Cheyenne Crump

Remember the days when you walked into a gay bar and from the outside all that could be seen was the sign with the name above the door?

S

Y

Do you remember stepping inside and visually scanning the bar through the smoke filled air? And mixed with the smell of cigarettes, were aromas of dried beer, spirits and wine? I’ve heard some say it gave them the feeling of belonging to a private men’s club. Some say it added to the forbidden fruit aspect of doing something we shouldn’t be doing—like gathering with others considered to be perverts and undesirables! For me, once I was out and of the age to legally drink alcoholic beverages, I don’t remember ever having been ashamed to be seen drinking or meeting friends in a gay bar.

ou automatically knew you were at the right bar because it had no windows or if there were windows, they were covered, painted or blackened in some fashion so no one could look in and see what was going on inside; maybe to stop us from looking out at the free and open lives we might not have been able to live. Of course this was done mostly to ensure the patrons’ need for safety.

At the time I couldn’t help but wonder, what were straight people afraid of seeing? People having drinks together? Men outwardly displaying affection for one another? Women kissing other women? Or same-sex couples holding hands? Despite the everpresent need for safety, even personal survival, I’ve never understood why anyone would be threatened by any such examples of non-violent behaviours. On the contrary, they are acts of love. In retrospect, by that time I was out, so why would I want to hide? It’s a little strange to see London's Earl Court, today void of flamboyant characters, striking men and queens of drama. Only the hum of pedestrians and traffic remain, giving life to its streets. But at least we still have the likes of Christopher St, Compton St, the Castro, the Marais and of course our Sitges. In Sitges the bar culture, gay or straight is dictated by our beautiful weather, and drinks are enjoyed outdoors—on the beach, on terraces along our small streets. And although there are still gay bars in Sitges from which the interior can’t be seen from the outside, for the most part the LGBT community here has historically enjoyed the freedom of openly expressing themselves to the point of it finally being seen as normal… Isn’t it funny that as the acceptance of homosexuality and its consequence increases around the world, it seems that the rest of the world may finally be catching up to what we’ve had here in Sitges for many a year.

rian Tehrani (Tehran, 1977) is a Persian artist, a professor of art history at Tehran University where he completed his studies in Fine Arts, specializing in painting. He completed his master's degree in art history at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, where he lived before moving to Barcelona. The trajectory of Tehrani's pictorial work begins with a series of paintings rooted in the artistic tradition of the Middle East, a large region comprised of diverse cultures including Persia (Iran) and birthplace of the Farsi language. Arian whose mother tongue is Farsi, in his diaspora has learned other languages like swedish and now, castellano.

A colorist at first, the work of Arian Tehrani has evolved to drawing in pencil. The theme of his designs is openly gay or better said, male eroticism as it depicts nudity and male homosexual love. This love between men is the facet that Tehrani wants to fully claim, wanting it to be seen as beautiful and displayed with pride, proving that there is nothing wrong with it—to the contrary—there is love, beauty, and goodness in the coupling of same sex bodies. To transmit this message he uses models known in the gay subculture, like gay media personalities, who have gradually transcended to a mass media level; as is the case for Eliah Cohen, an Israeli model who became a prominent Israeli gay personality after becoming a cover model of the Spartacus International Gay Guide.

Other models are actors known within the world of the gay porn industry. Some other models belong to the music scene as Venezuelan DJ, Jean Franko. Tehrani draws them to amazing perfection simply using pencil and paper. His drawing technique is especially refined and he looks for poses which express the greatest passion, in fact, that is the word he’s used to title his exhibition, Passion, in the art studio of Blanca de Nicolas in Sitges. The eroticism transmitted in his drawings, Tehrani tries to tell us that if love is pure, gender doesn’t matter. His highly realistic drawings of men kissing is his attempt to normalize a reality that is being denied, hidden and even fought against in many countries, if not in most of the world.

In his life experience, Arian Tehrani has known social rejection before demonstrations of affection between same sex partners. Tehrani believes that the love of two people will always be stronger than any prejudice. His drawings are his profession of faith in the face of intolerance, contempt or denial of an absolute truth, love among men, LOVE in capital letters.

Other special events include the world premier of a new documentary by Brandon Jones, “100 Years of Gay Sitges.” And an appearance by actor and writer, Vincent J. Roth who, flying in from California (by plane, not by his superhero powers), is also known as cinemas’ first out gay superhero, Surge.

La Palma Rosa will screen back-to-back both, “Surge of Power: The Stuff of Heroes” and its follow-up ‘Surge of Power: Revenge of the Sequel”—for the first time anywhere in the world. Surge will attend in his battle-suit for photo opportunities and autographs at the screening and as a VIP guest at the launch party. He’ll also be filming for his online series, “Big City Chronicles”; so if you want to get your fifteen minutes of fame, don your superhero costume and come on down.

Michelle Ehlen’s lesbian comedy trilogy following her lovable character Jamie, will also get back-to-back screening for the first time. “Butch Jamie”, “Heterosexual Jill” and “S&M Sally” follow the trials and tribulations of a struggling lesbian actor in Hollywood and her complicated love life. German director, Tim Lienhard will attend the Spanish premier of his astonishing documentary “One Zero One”, exploring the lives of the extraordinary performance artists, Cybersissy & BayBjane (Antoine Timmermans & Mourad Zerhouni). Both performers are hoped to attend and perform at the festival, with a selection of Mr Timmermanns’ work available at exhibit in a local gallery. In homage to the International Bear's Sitges Week happening at the same time as La Palma Rosa, an entire day is to be dedicated to bear movies, keeping our furry friends happy, with comedy, drama and romance. La Palma Rosa is not just a film festival! Cultural events will be happening throughout the week and beyond, with music, dance, theatre and exhibitions. There are so many events and screenings being planned to make the festival’s first year a huge success, and we hope you’ll enjoy everything that’s on offer. The festival website is due to be launched in July 2017, with daily updates, trailers and tickets for all the events being planned. Check online to find out more information: www.lapalmarosa.cat

In Memoriam

(París, 1938 – Sitges 2016) Por By Isidre Roset

J

ust a year ago Pierre Tchetverikoff, an artist, gallery owner, antique dealer, bartender and many other trades and occupations shared his life with the architect Alain Peron, his faithful companion who always said that he would die first; but fate wanted Pierre to leave earlier to the other side of the Stygian lagoon.

Among many other collaborations that he made with foreign galleries, bearing the name of Sitges as a flag and passport to success. And Alain, who always stood by him, was made into his squire because Pierre had the soul of Don Quixote, complete with a mustache, reminiscent of that knight-errant, sad figure.

ur operational budget for this year is 9.000€. But this amount only allows us to open the doors of our offices and to attend our members and visitors with questions or problems they might have. Each of the association’s projects or events must ensure that it covers its own costs and that, if possible, it generates funds towards the annual budget. This is why during the last twelve months we’ve been very conscious about both controlling our expenses and seeking ways to finance ourselves. GSL is maintained and maintains its independence thanks to donations from its members, from individuals and companies.
