Buona lettura.

A SMALL RECOVERY THAT GIVES US HOPE First the pandemic, with its health emergency, then the war in Crimea, with the very harsh economic consequences: it seems that the crisis does not want to abandon us. However, despite thisthe travel and tourism industry is showing signs of recovery in many parts of the world. At the top of the list of destinations remain Japan, the United States, Spain, France and Germany, but Italy also gains 2 positions, passing from 12th to 10th position. This was revealed by the Travel & Tourism Development Index published today by the World Economic Forum which ranks 117 economies based on a series of crucial factors for the development, sustainability and resilience of the sector. The vaccinated have a positive influence, especially in our country, and even the rules have softened. On this issue of Gate we explain clearly what the new rules of air transport are: from May 1st the obligation to exhibit the Green Certification Covid-19 (the so-called Green Pass) ceased, to travel by plane on all flights in departure from Italian airports. However, it is good to be careful and inquire about the foreign destinations of arrival, because the presentation of the Green Pass may still be necessary in some countries. Furthermore, until May 31st, it is still mandatory to present the Green Certification to enter Italy from any foreign origin. And then there are the traditional destinations. like Spain, those alternatives like Poland by bicycle, and many Italian destinations to be discovered. Enjoy the reading:

LE NOTIZIE DALL’AEROPORTO NEWS FROM THE AIRPORT

THE WONDERS OF THE EGYPTIAN MUSEUM FOUNDED IN 1824, IT IS THE LARGEST EXHIBITION IN THE WORLD DEDICATED TO THE HISTORY OF ONE OF THE OLDEST PEOPLES AND THE MOST IMPORTANT AFTER CAIRO. THERE ARE SARCOPHAGI, MUMMIES, STATUES, JEWELS AND ARTIFACTS THAT CONSTITUTE A FUNDAMENTAL STOP FOR SCHOLARS, TOURISTS OR THE SIMPLY CURIOUS. The Egyptian Museum of Turin is a fundamental stop for tourists, students and fans of the ancient world. Its worldwide fame has made it a focal point of support for the culture of ancient Egypt. The Museum boasts the presence of 24 human

mummies and 17 animal mummies. A unique show that allows you to closely observe what we have always read in books. In 2019 the museum registered 853,320 visitors, making it the sixth most visited Italian museum. In 2017, TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards ranked the Egyptian Museum in first place among the most popular museums in Italy, ninth in Europe and fourteenth in the world. HISTORY It is the oldest museum in the world dedicated entirely to Egyptian culture. Founded in 1824, its was first dedicated to the “Collegio dei Nobili” and in 1832 it opened its doors to the public. Initially there were not only Egyptian artifacts but the exhibits were of a broader spectrum including prehistoric, Roman and pre-Roman artifacts, as well as elements from private collections. The real turning point came between 1903 and 1937 when the archaeological excavations conducted by Ernesto Schiaparelli and Giulio Farina, on Egyptian soil brought about 30,000 finds to the city of Turin. A decidedly important number that drastically changed the display structure. 17

LE NOTIZIE DALL’AEROPORTO NEWS FROM THE AIRPORT

From the 1980s the museum had a boom in visitors which forced it to plan a new visit route: the large underground rooms we know today were created and make it a unique museum also from structural and architectural viewpoint. The most recent revision was in 2015. The museum, therefore, has a rich history behind it and boasts 190 years of activity. But it has not remained unchanged over time: it has adapted to the needs of the new time and of an ever wider audience. INFORMATION The Egyptian Museum of Turin is open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday from 9 to 18.30 and on Mondays from 9 to 14. The full price ticket costs €15 while the reduced ticket costs €12. It is located in Via Accademia delle Scienze 6 and is easily reachable by subway from the Porta Nuova stop. On the website www.museoegizio.it you can find all the special projects and exhibitions in the near future. Ancient Egypt is also digital! You can also take a virtual tour although we recommend you visit in person.

WIND POWER BRINGS HOPE The future of our world is dependent on the production of electricity from renewable, clean and environmentally friendly sources. It is something we have known for some time and is long overdue. However the process of replacing fossil polluting sources is proving to be slower and more difficult than expected. The repercussions of Russia’s war against Ukraine are also complicit. Fortunately, there is good news, like the inauguration of the first marine wind farm in the Mediterranean. This ground breaking Italian project, called Beleolico, is located in front of Taranto, in the Apulian waters. The ten turbines, which started last April, are designed to produce 58,000 MWh at full capacity thanks to the wind, and which correspond to the electricity needs of 60,000 people. It is a wind turbine system fixed in the seabed, according to technology already applied in the North Sea and elsewhere. But Renexia, the energy design company of the Italian group TOTO, is already working on Medwind, another wind farm located in the center of the Sicilian Channel featuring floating rotors, anchored and not fixed in the depths, which happen to be too deep. A good sign that Italian and Mediterranean technology and entrepreneurship are looking to the future in fight against climate change and ecological transition, thanks to the European resources of the PNNR. 20

Temperatures rise and long days allow for a variety of tourist activities. Surely you have heard of Spain’s incredible beaches. True, in Spain you can enjoy many hours of sunshine, on some of the best beaches in the world and at seaside resorts with brightly colored houses. However, Spain in summer also has a taste of nature, music festivals and cities where warm evenings are filled with culture and entertainment. Summer is magical, and in Spain even more so. SOME OF THE BEST BEACHES OF THE WORLD WHERE THE BLUE FLAG BEATS One ocean, the Atlantic, and two seas, the Cantabrian, and the Mediterranean. Spain’s nearly 8,000 kilometers of coastline allow you to do a lot. Visit the lighthouses of Galicia, dive off the Costa Brava, sail in the turquoise waters of the Balearic Islands and enjoy coves such as Turqueta or Caló des Moro, admire the sunset in bays like that of San Sebastián, contemplate the landscape of the Costa del Sol or stretch out on the volcanic beaches of the Canary Islands. Over 600 exceptional beaches await you! And, year after year, Spain reconfirms its world record for Blue Flags. SEASIDE TOWNS AND COLORFUL REGIONS: HAPPINESS AT HAND The intense blue of the sea, the saltiness, the fish markets and the ports full of life, and the typical gastronomy ... In

short, sea life in its purest form. In the north of Spain, the seaside resorts of Baiona, Ribadesella, Llanes, San Vicente de la Barquera, Santoña and Laredo will win you over. In addition, northern Spain is full of dreamy coastal towns such as Muxía with its cliffs, Cudillero with its amphitheater of colorful houses, Bermeo with its interpretation center to discover the exciting whaling past of the area. Let’s not forget that the Mediterranean coast is dotted with villages of whitewashed facades such as Cadaqués with the museum dedicated to Dalí, Sitges near Barcelona, Peñiscola or Altea in the region of Valencia, but also any of the white villages in the provinces of Malaga or Cadiz represent a destination to live summer in full. TOURISM IN CONTACT WITH NATURE STARTING WITH THE PYRENEES The total area of the somewhat protected natural areas in Spain exceeds 30 million hectares. This means that a third of Spain’s land area and around 12 percent of its sea surface are protected. Mountain landscapes are perfect for escaping from high temperatures. The peaks of the Pyrenees or Picos de Europa, in northern Spain, are some of the most visited by those who want to enjoy the mountains and the cooler summer climate. The Picos de Europa National Park is divided between the provinces of Asturias, Cantabria and León, and it is the perfect example of an Atlantic ecosystem. Rich in oak and beech forests, the park takes its name from the impressive rock formations found here. In addition, it is

also home to two of the most emblematic animals living in Spain: the brown bear and the Iberian wolf. Instead, in the National Park of the Atlantic Islands, four small archipelagos give shape to an idyllic setting in which human presence is almost absent. Created by the interaction of the rías with the Atlantic Ocean, the Cies and Ons Islands, as well as the islands of Cortegada and Sálvora, there is a unique coastal biodiversity. EXCITING EVENINGS IN THE CITY AMONG MUSIC, THEATER AND CULTURE In summer it is nice to spend the evenings outdoors because the mild weather permits it. The cities empty but don’t lose their liveliness and for residents and tourists the summer nights rekindle cultural and musical activities. Here are some ideas: the Cordoba Guitar Festival, the Mérida Classical Theater Festival in a Roman theater with 2,000 years of history, nightly guided visits to monuments such as the Alhambra in Granada are reserved for those who like to experience the city in summer as well as trips to mysterious cities like Toledo. In big cities like Madrid, the Summer in the City festival takes place during the season with a calendar of performing arts events to suit all tastes. Even in Barcelona, activity becomes lively with scheduled festivals and shows such as the Jardins de Pedralbes Festival with consecrated artists of all genres in a unique setting, or the International Jazz Festival. A PALETTE OF DISHES TYPICAL, DELICIOUS AND SUMMERY We can’t fail to mention the different dishes that cool the hottest of days in Spain. Gazpacho and salmorejo, whose main ingredient are tomato, are two classics when it comes to cold soups, as well as others such as the almond-based ajoblanco. Other ideas on summer dishes? What about Salpicón, based on seafood, the pipirrana salad (made with onion, tomato, green pepper and cucumber) or esqueixada (another cold salad with salted cod). Further, many bars and restaurants offer their own open spaces even in the evening, not forgetting the numerous chiringuitos present in all the beaches where fresh fish is the protagonist. In recent years, even the most famous hotels in cities have used their open terraces in the evening allowing the general public to have a drink and enjoy magnificent views.

A THOUSAND-YEAR HISTORY Located in the heart of Europe, the country retains countless traces of its thousand year history and cycling between historic cities, rich plains, picturesque river valleys, wild forests and the incredible lake region guarantees unforgettable experiences. With a good map in hand, you can take numerous bike rides to see picturesque places and, sometimes, you can take cycle routes that also go into wooded areas far from urban centers. Many places are connected to each other by cycle paths that also touch tourist points of interest. Among the numerous cycle routes, the Green Velo (www.greenvelo.pl/en) stands out. Its route of over 2000 km winds along the eastern side of Poland. Green Velo is the longest permanent cycling trail in the country. The main route is 1,885 km long and crosses Warmia-Masuria, Podlaskie (Podlachia), Lubelskie (Lublin), Podkarpackie (Precarpathia) and

Świętokrzyskie (Santacroce) from South to North. Additional connecting routes can be followed for approximately 200 kilometers, with similar sights to the main route. The itinerary is divided into 12 sections, called ‘bike kingdoms’, and you can choose from over 100 oneday, weekend or longer bike tours to discover eastern Poland, with quite possibly the most attractions in the country. ON THE ROADS AND TRAILS Most of Green Velo runs on public roads with light traffic, but it also consists of paths located in woods and river valleys, and on cycle paths and dirt roads. Since the inauguration of the route in 2015 more than 30 bridges have been built or renovated, various infrastructural works have been carried out and 230 Cyclist Service Points have been created; each equipped with bicycle racks, canopies and benches, as well as baskets for garbage and information boards, all to allow for safe passage.

The Green Velo trail demonstrates the beauty, uniqueness and diversity of the five Polish regions it crosses and is suitable for passionate or amateur cyclists. An experience you can do alone, with the family, or in small or large groups. On the track there are various indications on monuments and cities encountered along the way. Cycling is also possible in other areas of Poland, such as the Bory Tucholskie forest and the mouth of the Warta river, or in the various national parks (there are 23 in all) in the area. Among the most beautiful trails we recommend, which is worth organizing a trip to, is: Velo Dunajec, Szlak wokół Tatr (the path around the Tatra Mountains), Velo Baltica, EuroVelo 10, Blue Velo. These paths, unlike the Green Velo, are shorter, but they consist entirely of cycle paths or stretches, where you can find hundreds of noteworthy tourist attractions.

WHAT TO SEE ALONG THE ROUTE To surprise you right away is the Warmia-Masuria Region, in the north-eastern part of Poland, with its landscape dotted with numerous lakes, giving way to its nickname, The Land of a Thousand Lakes. Continuing south, the Podlaskie Region (Podlachia) is a true naturalistic paradise, with forests and national parks, including the Białowieża National Park, where it is possible to spot the imposing and magnificent European bison. In the Lubelskie Region (Lublin), in addition to the largest city in eastern Poland, Lublin which is full of life and culture, Zamosc is a Renaissance city inscribed on the Unesco Heritage list. A real jewel, like the National Park of Polesie, it is rich in typical elements of the tundra along with the Roztocze National Park, characterized by streams and waterfalls. Moving further south, the Świętokrzyskie (Holy Cross) Region is known for its 4 geological reserves, the

Although not strictly correct from a geographical point of view, areas of the Metalliferous Hills and the heights of Monte Amiata are generally annexed to the Maremma Grossetana. Finally, the Maremma Laziale, along the coast of Upper Lazio, embraces the province of Viterbo and marginally that of Rome. It also includes a part of the Roman Tuscia up to Capo Linaro. Tarquinia, Tuscania, Montalto di Castro, Canino, Vulci, Civitavecchia and Santa Marinella are some of the best known places in this part of Maremma. As you may have guessed, the Maremma really offers everything a visitor can look for: sea, mountains, hills, art, sport, even wellness given the thermal resources, without forgetting the food and wine tradition.

A land still unspoiled at times, the Maremma is certainly an environment of great naturalistic interest, which is rich in history and culture. The Wild heart of Tuscany, it is made up of large spaces and extended times that are the ideal setting for living outdoors in harmony with a territory where the dimension of the journey respects the rhythms of man. Being a very vast territory, which extends from Tuscany to Lazio, it is not easy to define its borders if not dividing it into large areas: Maremma Pisana including Livorno, Maremma Grossetana and Maremma Laziale. Maremma Pisana and Maremma Livornese embrace a large part of the province of Livorno, some areas of the province of Pisa and the hinterland between Rosignano Marittimo and Piombino. This area also includes part of the Val di Cecina, the Val di Cornia and the Metalliferous Hills. The Maremma Grossetana includes the central part of the province of Grosseto, from the Gulf of Follonica to

WHAT TO SEE Being such a vast area and rich in history and beauty, it becomes really difficult to summarize in a few lines what is worth seeing in Maremma. However, we will try to give you some tips to organize an itinerary that can give you an overview of this magnificent area, focusing on Tuscany. For lovers of the sea and famous places, a stop in the two delightful seaside villages of Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole is a must. The characteristic coves and beaches of the Argentario, the fortresses dating back to the era of Spanish domination, the breathtaking views to be discovered through the trekking routes or along the panoramic road of Porto S. Stefano or the panoramic road of Porto Ercole are really recommended stops. Crystal clear sea, respect for nature and excellent hospitality: these are the ingredients to build an excellent sea experience in Maremma. For lovers of nature and history a must is the area of Monte Amiata, a now extinct volcano, rich in springs but also in mineral and naturalistic resources. Here there are countless naturalistic and historical-cultural itineraries such as the WWF Bosco Rocconi oasis, the Monte Penna Nature Reserve, the small village of Rocchette di Fazio and the Pieve di Lamula with traces left by the Knights Templar, the Hermitage of David, Lazzaretti on Monte Labbro, and the medieval village of Semproniano. Places full of charm that will conquer at first glance. Don’t want to forego the regenerating aspect vacation? To take care of the body and the spirit, the Maremma, a sulphurous land and ancient volcanoes, hosts many thermal springs, just think of the Saturnia area. Spending a few days here means being able to take a break from the routine, leave stress behind and seek a new balance between physical fitness and inner well-being in a land known since ancient times for its healing characteristics. Finally, sports enthusiasts and those who love active holidays will also find numerous options here. From sailing to cycle tourism, from diving to trekking, from horse riding to kite surfing: sports enthusiasts can practice their favorite discipline or try their hand at the many activities offered throughout the year. Without forgetting golf which for some years has represented one of the sporting excellences of the Maremma. Many different scenarios where you can pass quickly from the sea to the cultivated hills and from the testimonies of the past to modern structures, her you find the ideal place 41

for those who love sport. WHAT TO DO The official app to download in order to stay updated on the events and news of the Tuscan Maremma and to plan your own personalized itineraries is QuiMaremma, available on the Apple Store and Google Play. Here are just a few expereinces that we consider interesting to get into the heart of the Maremma spirit and to meet the travel preferences and interests of the whole family. MINI CRUISES Unmissable tours of the Maremma coast depart from Porto Santo Stefano practically every day from April to October. Small boats take tourists to the main towns of the archipelago. Depending on the tour chosen, you can visit the Island of Giglio, with its wonderful castle, the waterfront with restaurants and souvenir shops and the lush wild nature, and also the Island of Giannutri. The mini-cruises include excursions, tastings of typical products and local wines, breathtaking views of the crystal clear sea and stops for swimming and diving in the most beautiful coves of the Argentario, many of which can only be reached by sea. A VISIT TO PITIGLIANO Pitigliano, also known as “little Jerusalem”, seems to have just come out of a fairy tale: a city carved so deep into the tough rock that you can’t understand where the work of man ends and that of nature begins. The effect is surprising, especially at night when the spotlights are hidden in the wisteria that make the city appear as if it were suspended. There are also some spectacular paths in the surrounding countryside through which you can walk the cave roads, built by the Etruscans. And before leaving this enchanting place, don’t forget to taste the excellent local wine, Bianco di Pitigliano. FOLLOWING IN THE TRACKS OF PREHISTORIC MAN Most of the itineraries in the Maremma Regional Park start from the Alberese Visitor Center where you can buy tickets or reserve visits with an authorized environmental guide. For independent visits, simply follow the directions on the map and then refer to the directions on the signs that are positioned at the beginning of each path and along the route. The A3 itinerary of the Caves, for example, after a walk in the pine forest, leads to the

rocky cliff that rises from the plain; here there are some caves where artifacts have been found that testify to the frequentation of these places by man in prehistoric times. From the top of the hill, with the wind caressing your face, you can immerse yourself in a beautiful view of the sea with the coast and the Uccellina mountains on the left, dotted with ancient coastal towers that were used for the sighting of pirate attacks. On the right, however, the sea laps the sandy and wild beach. GO FOR GARDENS In the surroundings of Capalbio there is a very particular garden that will remind most of the Parc Güell in Barcelona; the Tarot Garden, created by Niki de Saint de Phalle in the second half of the last century. The Garden houses large and striking steel sculptures covered with concrete with glass, mirrors and colored ceramics by the French artist, depicting the 22 Major Arcana of the Tarot cards. The creation of the Garden stems from Niki’s desire to build a “little corner of paradise where man and nature meet”. The creation of this unique place has engaged the artist for over seventeen years and has seen great contemporary artists at work, including the artist’s husband, Jean Tinguely. Another garden of great interest is the garden of Spoerri, an open-air contemporary art park. Built in Seggiano, a small village on the slopes of Mount Amiata, it now contains about a hundred works by 55 artists as well as Daniel Spoerri, but the garden is constantly evolving. Since 1997 it has become a foundation, and a meeting point for creative minds. The garden is located on grassy ground with slight slopes with an easily accesible path that takes about 3 hours to visit. THE DISHES OF TRADITION The richness of the Maremma products is inevitably reflected also in the traditional food and wine. These are simple, so-called poor dishes that retain the preciousness of genuine ingredients, which come from the constant work of those who love this land and get the best out of it. The cheeses, cured meats, crops and Tuscan wines produced in these lands combine to create a culinary panorama that knows how to be appreciated even outside the region for their genuineness and for the quality with which they stand even in the extensive national food and wine panorama. Maremma hors d’oeuvres are mainly based on peasant tradition and the production of local cured meats and

cheeses such as that of Fossa, the Tuscan pecorino or Dop, stracchino - a fundamental ingredient of baked croutons with sausage - and ricotta. Then there is never a lack of Orbetello bottarga, dried mullet eggs. It is seasoned with extra virgin olive oil, lemon and pepper, in a simple but tasty way. Maremma panzanella is a very popular appetizer especially in summer prepared with stale bread, oil, salt, tomatoes and basil. Among the first courses to try, we start with the Maremma tortelli, filled with spinach and sheep ricotta coming directly from local dairies. A curious dish is that of Ciaffagnoni or Crèpes di Manciano, which are seasoned with sauce or, alternatively with a white dressing made of pecorino and lard. Wild boar bread dumplings are also very popular. The preparation includes stale bread and the flour with which the gnocchi are obtained, seasoned with pork sauce and a sprinkling of pecorino. The Maremma main courses are both meat and fish based and many include wild boar meat. The lamb buglione is also very tasty, with the white meat cooked in a pan and blended with white wine and the venison alla palma, which is marinated for a whole night in the herbs, then blended with white vinegar and left to cook with the black olives. For those who prefer fish, we cannot fail to mention the scaveccio, a dish with breaded and fried eels, and the Maremma-style cod; where the fish is first breaded and fried, then dipped in a sauce flavored with garlic and onion.

PRIMA DI FARE UN FILM DEVI PENSARCI CENTO VOLTE È QUESTO IL SEGRETO DI CARLO VERDONE? FORSE SÌ, VISTO CHE AL CINEMA NON HA MAI SBAGLIATO UN COLPO. E AGGIUNGE: «NON DITE CHE SONO L’EREDE DI ALBERTO SORDI: NON LO SONO NELLA MANIERA PIÙ ASSOLUTA. LUI È STATO UNA MASCHERA IMMENSA, IO NON C’ENTRO NULLA CON LUI. PERÒ ABBIAMO IN COMUNE L’AMORE PER ROMA».

BEFORE MAKING A MOVIE YOU HAVE TO THINK ABOUT IT A HUNDRED TIMES IS THIS THE SECRET OF CARLO VERDONE? MAYBE YES, SINCE HE HAS NEVER MISSED A SHOT AT THE CINEMA. AND HE ADDS: “DON’T SAY THAT I AM ALBERTO SORDI’S HEIR: I AM ABSOLUTELY NOT. HE WAS AN IMMENSE MASK AND I HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH HIM. BUT WE DO BOTH HAVE A LOVE OF ROME IN COMMON.” [Paola Medori]

Come mai? Bisogna davvero stare attenti».

Guest of the 22nd edition of the Lecce European Film Festival, one of the sacred monsters of Italian cinema, Carlo Verdone, talks about himself and his new and old successes. From his latest film “You Live Only Once” debuting with the series “Vita da Carlo”, already a cult that stages the family life of its protagonist to his irresistible masks and unconditional love for Rome. And as for the future, his thoughts always turn to cinema: “To make a good film you have to think about it a hundred times. You have to say something important, otherwise the audience will not come.” The “Vita da Carlo” series on Amazon Prime Video, is a great success. Is he ready for the second season or would he rather make a new movie? “The series is a crazy success, let’s see if this will lead to a second season: given the results I think so but a lot of that also depends on me. I have some ideas ready for a possible film but we haven’t had any meeting with the writers yet. At Christmas, Vita da Carlo, was released all over the world - except in Japan, due to subtitle problems -, but from Sumatra to Iceland. It is a huge opportunity to make myself known. A great blow to me who has always had the misfortune of not being distributed abroad, despite my films asking for ot, and I’m not talking about De Laurentiis”. Why? “Previous producers were afraid that if I were successful elsewhere, I might then change the rules of the contract. So my films always go to the same countries: it’s incredible to say it but I must say that the only one who believed in me was Harvey Weinstein. He was crazy about Iris Blond that he released it in America, in New York and Los Angeles, and it won over the public. “ ENJOY YOUR TRIP

What does the viewer really need in order to inspire them to return to the cinema? “A story that has something important to say. Younger generations prefer to watch movies or series on their smartphone, lying on the bed because they are used to it. Kids are now resisting a half an hour, because it weighs more on them; they are used to short, concise, short narration, of a maximum of one episode, waiting for the second one. This is a wake-up call. It has to make us worry about the cinema’s survival. “Here I laugh” by Mario Martone is a great author, but middle-aged and adult people go to see him; young people prefer Marvel products. The narrative is changing.” He is one of the greatest interpreters of Italian comedy, how difficult is it today to respect the politically correct? “When I wrote“ Vita da Carlo ”, every day we stopped for an hour and said to each other: ‘Oh my God, what about being politically correct? But can we say this sentence?”. Making a funny movie has now become an

obstacle course. It is a tragedy, because often people fail to contextualize the moment or the period, and therefore we get to say nonsense like: “Let’s tear down that statue, let’s tear down Christopher Columbus.” I too disliked Columbus, but why shoot him down? He is there, he is an historical figure. We really have to be careful.” In “You Only Live Once” a group of post-feminists accused you of being male chauvinist. “Just framing my daughter’s ass for 10 seconds was all it took and they immediately told me I had to stop. I took that scene from true life: from a Bonolis broadcast. And what about my “Gallo Cedrone” and “Honeymoons”? It has become an obstacle course, indeed a tragedy. Often it is not possible to contextualize the moment and the time.” How did you respond to the criticisms? “I don’t like them because we end up laughing a little less. Nothing can be said any more. With this in mind, my films or those of Alberto Sordi will all be thrown away. In my opinion, a minimum of impropriety is needed, then 49

it’s up to the director to recover in the course of the film.” Speaking of Alberto Sordi, you have often been defined as his heir. What do you think? “I am absolutely not. Alberto Sordi was an immense mask and I have nothing to do with him. But we do both have a love of Rome in common, of course. He however has interpreted categories of Romans that are different from mine. He was cynical and I am melancholy. For me he remains one of the best performers of comedy ever.” Who is his heir instead? “There isn’t one. I had the honor of having a place in the golden age of the great colonels of laughter, Sordi, Manfredi, Tognazzi, and then I invented something new. You must pave your own type of path. Today no one has done it, but sooner or later someone will come and bring something new to the genre. Can’t wait for that to happen. Each era has come up with something new. I also like to be a spectator and I’m a fan of others. I made more debuts for actresses than any other. Like Caterina De Angelis, the daughter of Margherita Buy, who is now very popular.”

How much more difficult is it today to photograph reality? “At one time when people were full of humanity, they talked to each other from window to window. Now we live in a very complicated period, so it will be a challenge to make comedies, but an intelligent one will succeed and will come up with a new language. Now it is more difficult than ever to interpret reality.” Protagonist Renato Pozzetto in the film “7 kilos in 7 days”, directed by Luca Verdone and restored by Infinity + on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of its cinema release. What memory do you have of that set? “The idea of the title is mine. At that time there was an obsession with diet. In “7 kilos in 7 days is murder”, Pozzetto makes you laugh. He loved cooking. I remember eating pasta with cheese and pepper, grigio and amatriciana because they brought him a stove to the camper. At the end of the film we weighed 4 kilos more. And you can also see it in some scenes, where I have an incredible belly. It was great fun and every time the film is on TV it gets great ratings. “

NUOVI PROTAGONISTI/ NEW STARS

It is now almost impossible not to think of him outside of the hospital ward. Luca Argentero, alias Dr. Andrea Fanti and better known simply as Doc, is the protagonist of the new (and beloved) series “Doc - In your hands”, the medical drama on Rai1, an audience favorite and produced by Lux Vide with Rai Fiction. The actor from Turin, born in 1978, talented and charming without saying, played the role of doctor Pierdante Piccioni for two series, who lost 12 years of his memory due to an accident. It’s golden times for the prince of fiction envied by romantics from all over the world and who, on July 5th, 2021, in the village of Città della Pieve in Umbria, married actress, entrepreneur and influencer Cristina Marino, and became father to baby girl, Nina Speranza. Fanti is a complex and multifaceted character. What has he taught you? “I like that he is upfront, that is, unable to hold back the words that come to mind. I also am finding it harder and harder to keep things in as I too have become more direct, perhaps as I age. I’m getting older. Before, I was more attentive and diplomatic, but I’m starting to be less so. If I don’t like something, I don’t do it, if I have doubts, I talk about it. And it’s a feature that Doc passed on to me which I take home. Then I’m married to a woman whose mantra is being direct. Cristina is aligned if not more upront than Fanti. “ Workaholic Doc cannot live outside of his hospital and his responsibilities. Will he be able to have a private life in the new season? “Life and work constantly overlap. It is difficult to imagine Fanti with a hobby or to see him playing paddle with friends because he takes his problems with him always. He never gives up. It is very difficult for him to have personal and emotional detachment from what he experiences, since he is a doctor. Maybe it will take the third season to see Doc more calm and relaxed. “ The Covid-19 pandemic also entered the ward. “All the protagonists have been forced to deal with a health emergency and the trench they have experienced. This is where the story starts. Covid, however, was approached in a forward looking way and not in the past, as a flashback. The goal was to focus on the effects of

what we have experienced. Effects that we do not fully know yet: none of us have really metabolized what we are experiencing yet.” Your daughter, Nina Speranza, came to visit you on the set during filming, and also watched it this year. “When I look back at Doc in a few years, I’ll think back in my daughter’s first year I was living in the ward. I am fortunate to have a wife who supports me and she has allowed me, in these long months on the set, to always be together because we don’t live in Rome. My family, Cristina and Nina Speranza, teamed up to allow me to be here. “ Did you feel a lot of pressure and expectations surrounding his role? “There was performance anxiety, but it turned into enthusiasm. We have all had the same difficulties that sets are having in this period. Once again, we have believe that we are telling a great story. It’s possible that this adventure has even made us better people, as this character has given me a lot. Like all our protagonists, Dr. Fanti is not only a doctor, but above all a person.” At first it was George Clooney in ER - Doctors on the Front Line, then Patrick Dempsey in Grey’s Anatomy, aren’t you afraid of being trapped in the role of the Doc? “This role is an opportunity and does not deprive me of other experiences. Before arriving here, I did a lot of things. Meeting a character like Fanti’s is an honor. It is difficult to center a series in an actor’s career. It doesn’t scare me rather it excites me. I see no contraindications, other than the responsibility to do it well. “ It details not only a profession that is unlike any other, but also taking care of others. How do you do it? “I also take care of people through my association Uncaffè.org, which is inspired by the Neapolitan tradition of suspended coffee. You can leave a digitally paid coffee for those who need it. We carry out numerous initiatives to support various realities.”

DAVANTI ALLA TASTIERA CADO SEMPRE IN ESTASI PROPRIO COSÌ IL GRANDE PIANISTA GIOVANNI ALLEVI, HA VOLUTO INTITOLARE IL SUO PROGETTO MUSICALE, INIZIATO A GENNAIO A ROMA E ORA PORTATO NEI PIÙ IMPORTANTI TEATRI DEL MONDO. “E TUTTO È COMINCIATO DAVANTI ALLA STATUA DI SANTA TERESA D’AVILA, CHE MI HA TANTO COINVOLTO DA FARMI SVENIRE”

BEHIND THE KEYBOARD I ALWAYS FALL IN ECSTASY THIS IS EXACTLY HOW THE GREAT PIANIST GIOVANNI ALLEVI WANTED TO NAME HIS MUSICAL PROJECT, WHICH BEGAN IN JANUARY IN ROME AND SINCE HAS TRAVELED TO THE MOST IMPORTANT THEATERS IN THE WORLD. “AND IT ALL STARTED IN FRONT OF THE STATUE OF SAINT TERESA OF AVILA, WHICH INCAPTURED ME SO MUCH THAT IT MADE ME FAINT” [Cristina Tirinzoni] Partito il 1° gennaio 2022, dalla sala S. Cecilia dell’Auditorium Parco della Musica di Roma, continua il lungo tour europeo del Maestro Giovanni Allevi.

Forze

i cespugli. Questo aspetto è rimasto. È vero, mi sento impacciato, timido, vulnerabile, inadeguato.

Starting on January 1, 2022, from the S. Cecilia room of the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, the long European tour of Maestro Giovanni Allevi continues. Over 20 solo piano concerts named after his latest recording project “Ecstasy”, his twelfth album recorded with his beloved Grand Piano Bösendorfer Imperial (released in November two years after Hope). It will be on stage in Vienna on June 2nd, on July 6th it will stop in Zurich and on July 14th in Fiesole. He brings his unconventional style, which combines piano virtuosity, compositional genius and melodic intensity. “My relationship with music and the piano has never changed. Same fear, same intoxication”, tells us the famous pianist and composer from Marche, the conductor (two diplomas with top marks in piano at the Perugia Conservatory and in composition at the Milan Conservatory), graduated with honors also in Philosophy. He is dressed in his usual with a cascade of indomitable black curls, inevitable Jeans, t-shirts, sneakers and the spontaneity and the vaguely ruffled and awkward grace of an eternal teenager. On 9 April he turned 53 but he looks much younger. “I hope to always stay in touch with the child I have always been. Perhaps my whole life has been not to betray that child, dreamer and visionary, lonely and rebellious”. Take us into the new album Ecstasy. What effect does this return to live performances have? It’s something I’ve been waiting for, for two years and I imagined it in every way. Going back to playing live, being able to find the contact with the public

that I missed so much, is an infinite joy. An emotion that is always upsetting. It makes me feel alive. I understand the widespread sense of discouragement that surrounds us. Alongside the drama and pain we have all experienced in this absurd period, I find the awareness of our fragility must lead us all to live what we have with the utmost intensity and gratitude. You wrote the songs from the new album during the lockdown? Yes. I was moved by the restlessness of darkness of the soul that surrounded me. I sought light through music. We will have to slowly emerge from the fear that immobilizes us, that shrinks our legs and our heart. What is Ecstasy? Ecstasy is a word that comes from the Greek and means “to go out of oneself”. The most sublime of states of consciousness that throws us into bewilderment. If happiness is the fulfillment of a desire inscribed in the horizon of everyday meaning, ecstasy is instead the breaking of the links of everyday life, to spread into a much wider dimension and discover the abyss within us. Which scares us but that attracts us. A real rapture of the soul. A quantum leap towards what is ultimately a mystery, an enigma. Outside and inside of us. Today’s world, however, is all going somewhere else ... In a dark age. I like to talk about it because I find it more important than happiness. I am convinced of it:

it is necessary to return to grasp the sublime, the ecstatic, the whirling, that divine spark that has always housed in our hearts. Even when you play on the piano, bent over the black and white keys, the impression you give is that of a profound rapture. Yes, it is true on stage I channel music with great enthusiasm. Enthusiasm, intoxication, emotion, madness: all aspects that I look for in music. Perhaps because they are the opposite of my temperament, reflective and thoughtful. I’ve always asked the music to take me somewhere else. Free to express myself without thinking about the judgments or the consequences. Music is total immersion in the present moment. At that moment I even forget that I exist, who I am, what I have done and what I will do. I really let myself be overwhelmed by its impetuous and unpredictable wind, rediscovering a profound joy of living, in which I have the sensation of seeing the world for the first time. You have experienced firsthand this experience of ecstasy in front of Saint Teresa of Avila immortalized by Bernini in the grip of celestial visions In front of a sublime work one can feel overwhelmed by its beauty. I thought that Stendhal Syndrome was something of the past, but instead it caught me in full. I was in Rome for the filming of Allevi in the jingle (the docu-series directed by Simone Valentini - produced by Twister Film, for Raiplay, ed) and I wanted to go and see Bernini’s masterpiece in the church of Santa Maria della Vittoria, not too far from the hotel. The statue, as we all know, portrays Santa Teresa, suspended between heaven and earth, who has just been pierced by a spear supported from an angel and in his face once can observe a mixed expression between pain, pleasure and bewilderment while the angel smiles at her mockingly as if to say that it is impossible to be immune from divine love. The emotion was overwhelming. Did you really lose consciousness after seeing the Saint? I passed out in Piazza Barberini a few minutes later. I fell and even broke a rib. Since then I have had a single obsession, to tell this experience in

music, to be able to share it. And the album is the result. I would like one day to bring a piano to that church and play it in front of that immense work. You have dedicated one passage to the Angelocustos and another to Lucifer My Angel and Lucifer are two conditions of the spirit present in each of us. This fascinates me. Opposing forces competing for our existence. There is no ecstasy if you don’t start from the dark. The Guardian Angel is the archetype of generosity. He represents our sweet and welcoming maternal side that guides and supports, teaches us to take care of ourselves and others. The image of the fallen angel is beautiful because, despite everything, he carries the spark of the divine origin from which he comes in the depths of his heart. Etymologically Lucifer, in fact, means “bearer of light”. There is a strong evocative picture. The fallen angel was painted by the French painter Alexandre Cabanel in 1868 and it immortalizes Lucifer when he finds himself on the ground defeated. His wings lie elegantly on the ground, without vigor, dull, his hands are intertwined, as if he wanted to give himself the push to get up. His eyes are filled with anger. Lucifer weeps. As full of anger as he may be, full of hubris and pride, he can’t hide the pain and suffering. As if that tear were the last residue of his divine spark. What do you see in the Rebel Angel? The dark side of the human dimension, that dark side that everyone has, and that must be faced with courage. We have to meet our demons face to face, our fears, our regrets, our mistakes, our anger, our arrogance, our violent side. Only in this way can we then take flight towards the light, freeing ourselves from the ties of a daily life that, underhanded, makes us forget our wings. The song Solo is an invitation to rediscover loneliness in a hyperconnected world We live in a society where there is an excess of noise, of words, of messages of information that are continually catapulted on us. And we end up losing pieces of our soul. At least for me, there is only one way to find myself: isolation, silence,

63

emptiness. Silence in solitude gives you the opportunity to reflect, to think. I am a cat under the cupboard, I never move except for concerts, I never leave the house except for shopping or running. Then comes the capricious witch (music, ed) who requires exclusive dedication, day and night, because the music in my head does not give me respite. Very shy however, you seem perfectly at ease in front of the audience I still don’t understand anything! If I had to explain what I do, how the mechanisms work, and above all why all this happens, I would not be able to find the words. Only one certainty: if I find myself on a stage, in the presence of music, I am the happiest child in the world! Once I get out of there, my inner life becomes a mess again. You have never made any secret of your frailties Fragility is the deep core of the human being and it is absurd to pretend that this is not the case. As a child I was very introverted, I loved locking myself in boxes, in the garage under the house or hiding in the bushes. This aspect has remained. True, I feel self-conscious, shy, vulnerable, inadequate. I am very anxious. Anxiety is my usual state of mind. A sort of travel companion who, in periods of particular stress, introduced me to real panic attack crises. I think it is due to the fact that the contemporary world and I just do not see eye to eye. I can’t share this sense of competition, the cult of appearing, the idea that you have to show success. In this society that wants us to be performed, efficient, strong approved, I claim the value of being inadequate. Unbalanced (laughs, ed). I spent my first 50 years in an unstable balance, between loneliness and applause, sound and silence, triumphs and depression. Feeling unbalanced between mad and desperate study and transgression, between criticism from detractors and the warmth of a large audience, unbalanced towards the world of imagination against reality, towards isolation against social contact. Now I can say it without fear: despite being an alienating and painful condition, the imbalance in favor of ourselves and our uniqueness can represent a way of salvation.

How would you define the moment we’re living in? It is a world that does not allow pauses, where confrontation and competition are perennial. Diversity, fragility, failure, error are not forgiven. And this produces a sense of inadequacy, because it seems that every commitment is in vain, every result achieved is precarious and provisional. The weight of confrontation with the world and with the success of others has become unbearable for everyone. I believe that every person holds a value regardless of any recognition, the results he has obtained, the judgments and esteem he receives. When was the love for the piano born? More than love, I would speak of fear and desire together. It all started with a ban: my parents (mom Fiorella, opera singer and dad Giorgio, virtuoso clarinetist, ed.) Forbade me to touch the piano, locking it, only my older sister could play it. But that

prohibition sparked an unstoppable desire in me. I soon found out where they were hiding the key. I opened it and improvised. The amazement was consequent, and it resembled the pungent happiness of the narrow escape. My furtive encounters continued for years, until, in the fifth grade, on the occasion of a school play I come out into the open, with a performance of a short piece by Chopin. Even today, in front of the keys, I feel the same emotion of fear and desire. Even today, for me Music means breaking consolidated rules, to find myself in a new and uncontaminated territory. Do you think you have opened a new path? Humbly said, yes. A counter-current road. The music of a composer who wants to interpret his tempo, as all composers have done before him. As the German philosopher Hegel says: the present is always new! Any artistic tradition must be renewed, because the Spirit of Time is constantly

evolving. We must never be afraid to break the rules, if it is our heart that asks for it, I want to say it! I wouldn’t have written anything, however, if I hadn’t met Beethoven, or Brahms or Bach. You hold concerts all over the world, you go from one city to another sometimes non-stop. What kind of traveler are you? Now that you have re-read me, there’s something a little crazy I do every time I walk into a hotel room. First I do the jumps on the bed, like children. I feel an indescribable thrill. I am often distracted because I am wrapped up in concentration and concern for the concert. I’ll tell you an episode, not long ago Tokjo. The day after a concert while I was in a taxi with my Japanese agent looking out the window I saw a beautiful building and I asked him what that beautiful architecture was and he replied: “it’s the theater where you did the concert last night”.

Finally, with the warm season and summer holidays are approaching and we return to travel. From Fiumicino Airport we can do it at maximum safety. THE GREEN PASS IS NO LONGER NEEDED Beginning May 1 2022, the Covid-19 Green Certification (the so-called Green Pass) is no longer required to travel by plane on all flights departing from Italian airports. However, it is best to inquire about foreign destinations, because the Green Pass may still be necessary in for arrival in some countries. Furthermore, until May 31st,

it is still mandatory to present the Green Certification in order to enter Italy from any foreign origin. USE OF MASKS Until June 15, 2022, by law, it is mandatory to wear the FFP2 mask in order to board an aircraft. While it is still recommended to wear masks in all indoor public places or places open to the public, such as air terminals it is no longer mandatory. Obviously, common sense should be used in the event of obvious risk situations, such as gatherings of people and where it may be difficult to maintain a suitable safety distance of at least one meter between person and person. FOR THOSE ARRIVING FROM ABROAD There are also updates regarding arrivals from foreign countries. As already indicated with regard to the Green Pass, it will still be shown until 31 May upon arrival in Italy. The new information is that, from 1 May 2022, the digital Passenger Locator Form (PLF) will no longer be required, i.e. the forms used by the Health Authorities in the event that passengers have been exposed to an infectious disease during a trip to on board any means of transport in order to facilitate contact tracing.

71

Entry into Italy from abroad, in the absence of symptoms from Covid-19, is therefore allowed until May 31, provided that you have one of the Covid-19 green certifications, or other equivalent certification, certifying vaccination, healing or failure of a molecular or antigen test. These certifications can be exhibited in digital or paper format. Checks are carried out by the staff at the time of boarding. If one cannot demonstrate the Green Certification then it is mandatory to undergo a five-day quarantine period, at the end of which a molecular or rapid antigen test must be carried out. SWABS AT THE AIRPORT Located in the arrivals test area of Terminal 3 is the buffer service for all passengers departing or arriving at Fiumicino. Access to the buffer area is allowed only to passengers in possession of a travel document, as well as to staff in possession of an airport badge. The service for rapid antigenic swabs is carried out from midnight to 8pm, while molecular swabs are from 8am to 4pm. Priority is given to passengers with departing flights over those arriving, but they must still arrive well in advance of the

check-in time, as there may be delays in in the process. Payment for tests can be made at the airport with credit cards, debit cards or directly from a smartphone using contactless payment. To access the service, you can preregister online at https://www.adr.it/form, and go directly to the Test Area at the airport, where you can make the payment. The pre-registration is not a reservation, but rather saves time on administrative operations. WHAT IF THE BUFFER IS POSITIVE? What happens if the swab performed at the airport is positive? The quarantine provided for by law must be respected immediately, of 7 or 10 days depending on the vaccination situation. As per the provisions of the Lazio Region, in the absence of one’s own domicile in which to respect the period of isolation provided for by the legislation, the Airport Health Authority will arrange for the transfer to the Covid Hotel Sheraton Parco de ‘Medici. The hotel costs for hospitalization in the Covid hotel are responsibilty of the traveler in question.

A TOAST AT SUNSET IN FRONT OF THE SEA There is nothing better, at this time of the year, than greeting the sun with an excellent aperitivo at just a stone’s throw from the capital.

From Fregene to Ostia, sunset on the beach is accompanied by soft music, exotic cocktails, triumphs of elegantly served fruit and more. It almost feels like being in an exotic place thousands of kilometers from home ... and instead, it’s just a stone’s throw from Rome and the chaos of the metropolis. With just over half an hour of travel, you can enjoy an aperitivo by the sea to be enjoyed as many times as you want. Here are some suggestions for the best places to try along the Roman coast. IN FREGENE LIKE BEING ON THE OCEAN Unmissable, among the locals who have an aperitivp by the sea, their strong point (and one of the first to start this pleasant trend) is the Singita Miracle Beach, in Fregene. Here, the aperitivo harks back to the classic sunset ones by the ocean, as you might find in Florida. It all started back in 2002 with enormous success that it spread to many other beaches. Enjoy a range from the sound of the gong at sunset to ambient music, passing through a kiosk built with entirely natural materials, without any architectural barrier and with the use of energy saving and alternative energy systems. Free admission with no drink mimimus, but with organic local products to enjoy. We then move on to the Ondanomala Suite Club, with a wonderful lawn grown on the sand where there are strictly white tables and chairs. There is often live music (violin or guitar, highly suggestive at sunset), and you can enjoy an excellent happy hour with buffet. THE LOCAL SPECTACULARS OF OSTIA Glamour, music and entertainment, with a lot of atmosphere and excellent flavors are the keywords that you will find in the best aperitivos in Ostia, which offer options for all ages and tastes. Among these, we would particularly like to recommend the V-Lounge which is located on the Lungomare Amerigo Vespucci. It is a very trendy bathing establishment, and even here we find the turf on the sand (indeed, it was the first place to offer it!). The apertivo here is a ritual also highly appreciated by VIPs, so much so that you can often meet famous footballers and important celebrities. You can participate in the normal buffet, which is served from 17.30 to 21.30 at the beach bar, or even reserve an area with a personalized menu (the raw fish is a must). And then there is the Shilling, with its particular Africaninspired decor, and a bar directly on the beach. It is in Piazzale Cristoforo Colombo, but the exotic setting transports you away thanks to soft and equally suggestive music. You can choose a private room, in elegant white wood and with an original exotic shape, or the sitting rooms, also white and directly overlooking the water. If you want, you can also stay for the summer disco, one of the best on the Lazio coast. Another famous place in Ostia for an aperitivo by the sea is Il Capanno, a bathing establishment in Piazzale Magellano, which offers a different offer every evening, with themed aperitivos served directly on the beach.

Depending on the day of the week, you will find a different idea: Monday is Mexican, on Tuesday there is Italian food with a DJ set; Wednesday is dedicated to street food; Thursdays offer BBQ, Friday is dedicated to vegetarian and vegan tastings (Vegustation); and finally, on Saturday and Sunday the aperitivo is buffet style and the music returns to the fabulous seventies and eighties. Also there is the Bobo Club, perfect for families, offering entertainment for the little ones, every day until 11pm. THE BUFFET AFTER SPORT If you love sports, enjoy the trendy Stranivari, launched by Oasi Beach: every day, in addition to offering a buffet aperitivo from 6.30 pm, there is beach tennis, beach volleyball and zumba lessons. On Saturday and Sunday, there are DJ sets and live concerts. Beach tennis and beach volleyball tournaments are also organized by the La Spiaggia establishment every day except Saturday and Sunday, which are instead dedicated to relaxation and enjoying an excellent aperitivo until 9.00 pm. Then, from 10pm, Salsa dances begin, especially on Sundays. Finally, speaking of apericena, we cannot fail to mention the first restaurant in Ostia that started this tradition: the famous Tibidabo of Lungomare Caio Duilio, which started doing it every Sunday in the summer since 2010. Even today, the apericena here is served only and strictly on this day of the week, facing the sea to the rhythm of music, ranging from international pop to samba and reggaeton.

THE MAGIC OF HORSES IN PIAZZA DI SIENA The 89th edition of the most prestigious equestrian competition in the capital kicks off, live, in person and completely free.

A COMPETITION ROOTED IN HISTORY The debut of Piazza di Siena as a setting for equestrian competitions dates back to the beginning of the last century, in 1922. In 1926, the FEI included the Roman Competition in the international calendar, and since then the official numbering of the Official International Horse Competition has begun of Rome (CSIO, or Concours Saut International Officiel). After two editions hosted in the Villa Glori Hippodrome and a third in Parioli, in 1929 the horse competition returns to Piazza di Siena: four teams competing, France, Poland, Spain and Italy, and the triumph of Captain Sandro Bettoni . Moreover, in this wonderful setting, some of the greatest champions of equestrian sports have performed: just think of the Inzeo brothers, or Graziano Mancinelli. The horse show has been interrupted only twice; from 1941 to 1946 during the Second World War and in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

If you are in Rome from May 26th to 29th, you can’t miss this event. The Piazza di Siena finally returns in all its glory after skipping a season in 2020 due to the pandemic, and also again in 2021 with all the the necessary Covid-19 restrictions, for its eighty-ninth edition with the concept of “Powerful elegance” as its motto. Anyone who knows horses will hear “powerful elegance” resonating inside with an inevitable smile. And Piazza di Siena is truly for everyone. As always in the wonderful park of Villa Borghese, the CSIO of Rome 2022 - Master d’Inzeo this year is free of charge from the ancient stands around the famous oval of grass in Piazza di Siena, and to the natural stands that develop around the competition field. This year, the goal was not to charge admission, but to work on the principle of zero-impact bio-architecture: it will be like taking a dip into the past, returning to the very first editions of the competition of the early twentieth century, in an elegant minimalist and natural setting that will envelop the competition field between green modernity and delicious nostalgia. FOUR GREAT DAYS Four great days of sport, organized by the Italian Federation of Equestrian Sports with Sport and Health, which take place in the two long-time established locations; namely the oval of grass in Piazza di Siena and the sand arena of the Villa Gallop Bourgeois. Nine hundred thousand euros in prize money, totalling one hundred thousand more than 2021, in ten categories of the CSIO. See the best pairs from all over the world face off against each other, with routes designed by the famous ski slope chef Uliano Vezzani. In addition, there will be national competitions such as the Italia Polo Challenge tournament and the traditional and spectacular Caroselli, always loved by spectators of all ages. It starts on May 26th at the Villa Borghese Galoppatoio with a timed category on a 145 cm obstacle course, followed by two other races on the grass in Piazza di Siena, respectively the MAG Award (150 cm category) and the ENI Award ( category 155 cm). The latter will guarantee qualification for the Rolex Rome Grand Prix which will take place on Sunday May 29th. On Friday My 27th, we return to the Galoppatoio for the Small Tour, the first time with a race valid for the FEI Ranking consisting of 145 cm obstacles, followed by the Safe Riding Award, the Land Rover Award in Piazza di

Siena, and then the prestigious Intesa Sanpaolo Nations Cup. In the latter as always, ten international teams will compete for a prize pool of € 220,000 in two heats, tackling a 160 cm obstacle course. Eight European teams entered (Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain) and two from the American continent (United States and Canada). And on Saturday May 28th, the events will all take place on the oval grass in Piazza di Siena. It starts with the KEP Italia Prize, 145 cm consecutive phase category, and then moves on to the Small Grand Prix, with 155 cm obstacles, and then to the Sei Barriere. Finally, on Sunday May 29th we arrive at the prestigious Rolex Grand Prix in Rome, with the very rich prize money of 450,000 euros. Fifty pairs will be selected at the start, with 160 cm obstacles and the winner, will enter the historical international show jumping. THE BLUES ON THE FIELD Representing blue, the Italian Federation of Equestrian Sports has recently formalized the names of the amazons and Italian riders who will take the field. The official team will include Francesca Ciriesi, Lorenzo De Luca, Antonio Maria Garofalo, Luca Marziani and Riccardo Pisani. Among these, the team leader Marco Porro will choose the quartet for the Intesa Sanpaolo Nations Cup

on Friday May 27th. Instead, Emilio Bicocchi, Filippo Marco Bologni, Fabio Brotto, Piergiorgio Bucci, Andrea Calabro, Emanuele Gaudiano, Guido Grimaldi, Massimo Grossato, Giulia Martinengo Marquet and Francesco Turturiello have been called up to compete individually. Marta Bottanelli, Giacomo Casadei, Eugenio Grimaldi, Nico Lupino and Ludovica Minoli (without participation in the Rolex Rome Grand Prix on Sunday May 29) and Alessandra Bonifazi, Simone Coata, Filippo are also part of the blue, made up of a total of 30 amazons and riders. Codecasa, Lorenzo Correddu, Guido Franchi, Angelica Impronta, Valentina Isoardi, Maria Vittoria Martari, Filippo Martini di Cigala and Roberto Previtali are competing only in the small tour (Prize 1 FISE; Prize 4 Safe Riding; Prize 7 KEP Italy) and in the Six Barriers Loro Piana. Don’t worry, however, if you fail to attend this great festival of international sport live; it is true that “being there” is wonderful and we particularly recommend it this year since it is free, however you can still follow the 89th edition of CSIO di Roma Piazza di Siena - Master d’Inzeo, in live stream format of all the scheduled races as well as wide television coverage on RAI Sport HD and Rai 2 for all four days of spectacular races that follow eachother in the elegant setting of Villa Borghese.

WALKING BAREFOOT IS HEALTHY It is a phenomenon that comes from New Zealand: barefooting, now widespread everywhere and finally making it to us. Just take off your shoes and sandals and walk barefoot on the beach or the grass. A real cure-all for improving circulation and posture.

E ancora Janet Jackson, Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman. Patrick ha firmato anche le più belle campagne pubblicitarie di Giorgio Armani, TAG Heuer, Chanel, Lacoste, GAP, Gianni Versace, L’Oréal, Céline, Louis Vuitton, John Richmond, Revlon, Yves Saint Laurent, Lancôme, Elizabeth Arden e Gianfranco Ferré. Campagne che compaiono su Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Rolling Stone, Mademoiselle, Glamour, GQ e Allure. Portano la sua firma anche 3 calendari Pirelli.

LAETITIA CASTA TRIBUTE TO MAN WHO DREW THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMEN IN THE WORLD At the age of 78, at the beginning of the year, the great Patrick Demarchelier, the photographer who made Lady Diana iconic, passed away. Born in France and raised professionally in New York, he has signed the covers of the largest magazines in the world, the campaigns of the most famous brands and three Pirelli calendars. Here is a small gallery showing his talent At the end of a hot August in 1943, in the suburbs of Paris occupied by the Germans, Patrick Demarchelier was born, who was destined to go down in photography history. As a boy he spent his childhood in the port city of Le Havre in the northern part of France. He had 4 other siblings and his mother carried the responsibility of educating the children on her shoulders because Patrick’s father left home when he was only 8 years old. Soon thereafter his

mother remarried and his stepfather played an important role in the life of the future photographer. In fact, it was his stepfather who gave him an old Kodak for his birthday: he could not have known at that time that, thanks to that gift, one of the greatest photographers of the last fifty years would be born. Demarchelier left us at the end of March at the age of 78 and after fifty years of an extraordinary career. Represented in Italy by Studio FP International (Naima Zeghloul e Fabio Fasolini), it was after his move to New York in 1975 that he began to collaborate with the major fashion magazines in the world starting with Vogue. But also the female portraits by him are extraordinary and have earned the most important covers: from Madonna to Lady Diana (who “promoted” him to official photographer of the English royal family), from Christy Turlington to Claudia Schiffer, from Linda Evangelista to Cindy Crawford. And even Janet Jackson, Angelina Jolie and Nicole Kidman. Patrick has also signed the most beautiful advertising campaigns of Giorgio Armani, TAG Heuer, Chanel, Lacoste, GAP, Gianni Versace, L’Oréal, Céline, Louis Vuitton, John Richmond, Revlon, Yves Saint Laurent, Lancôme, Elizabeth Arden and Gianfranco Ferré. Campaigns that appear in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Rolling Stone, Mademoiselle, Glamour, GQ and Allure. Three Pirelli calendars also bear his signature.

Behind each garment, in addition to the fabric, lives a thought, a conceptual exploration through eras, books and distant worlds. The creations take shape on the human body with lightness and softness, like living and organic elements that pass from two-dimensional to three-dimensional. The geometries of the outerwear and the dress are broken down and then reconstructed according to soft geometric planes, which are structured and adapted to the body of the wearer. Each element is organic and not decorative, thanks also to an in-depth study of the materials. The revolutionary egg shape evokes a new fashion renaissance. After years of absence due to various financial vicissitudes, in 2022 the brand makes a great comeback with the new eccentric ownership, which entrusts the stylistic evolution of the brand to a creative team in close contact with production experts. Pietro Suaria, the lawyer specializing in trademarks and patents who shares ownership of Eccentric srl with Giuseppe Suaria and Francesco Conversi, took over the brand from the bankruptcy trustees of IT Holding, and studied at length the events in the history of Romeo Gigli following step by

Quali must-have consigliate alle grandi viaggiatrici? La nostra prossima borsa da donna che chiameremo Chimera. step until formulating the offer that led to its acquisition in 2012. After takinh almost seven years to grant the licenses granted, a plan for strategic development and repositioning of the brand was launched. Pietro Suaria also chose to entrust the creative helm of the brand to a selected team, convinced that the brand’s heritage and diversity can bring back that dream, that taste and that magical touch that always distinguished Romeo Gigli’s DNA. The tuned creative team answered our questions. How would you define the style of the brand? A non-style. There are no stereotypes, categories or references. We refer only and exclusively to the archetype conceived by the creator of the brand Which woman do you appeal to? We are addressing a mind rather than a concept of a person. The mind of our typical woman is not influenced by the concepts and proportions of fashion or trends and she does not think about her age when she falls in love with one of our garments but she chooses it to tell about herself. What are the sources of inspiration for the collections? Mostly travel. Not necessarily real but also imaginative. Emotional states must arise from the colors and sensations that we are able to give with the mood. The art of knowing how to tell stories used as a communication strategy remains our main goal. How important is travel in your sources of inspiration? It is critical. We always start from an imaginary or real journey. What trips have been fundamental for your personal and artistic growth? Journeys of the mind, exploration and reinterpretations of fantastic texts and stories are the stigma of every beginning of our creative journey. What have you kept of the brand’s heritage and what have you introduced as a novelty? The most important legacy we keep in our safe is diversity. Our novelty was to open the safe that contains the essence of the brand.

What are the prospects for 2022? Growth of the brand in the avant-garde sector, and strong image positioning in the most important stores in the world. What are the future plans and projects? Present the men’s collection soon and return to paris in Paris. What does your personal ideal suitcase contain and that of someone who dresses your collections? The suitcase is empty, on principle. There must always

be space to welcome new experiences and then abandon them and go in search of new ones. Never close the sensations in the suitcases. Instead, we would like to find the freedom to choose how to live and be, without any mental and / or social conditioning, in the suitcase of those who wear our collections. Which must-haves do you recommend to great travelers? Our next women’s bag we will call Chimera.

MEDICINA IN VIAGGIO TRAVELING MEDICINE

TRY FOR HEALTHY HOLIDAYS Going on vacation always requires a minimum amount of preparation to evade getting sick, even if the destination is a comfortable Italian island or the destination is exotic and adventurous.

A spiegarle sono s i Centers for Diseases Control americani (Cdc).

If you vacation comfortably in Italy, everything is certainly simpler. Our advice, however, is to talk to your doctor about a recommended with a mini health kit for any eventual ailment which can include, for example: _the right supply of typical medicines in case you suffer from chronic diseases (from high blood pressure to diabetes) or other drugs that require a medical prescription _disinfectants, band-aids, and first aid preparations for minor scratches or insect bites _pain relievers and / or an anti-inflammatory (if you are not sure if you have a pharmacy close at hand at the vacation spot) _thermometer _sunscreen, after-sun and ointments for any rashes (if you plan to expose yourself to the sun, both at the sea and in the mountains) _anything that your doctor advises for you on the basis of your and your family’s usual state of health (especially if you have small children) If you love adventurous travel, however, some precautions are a must. From how to pack your suitcase to knowing the effects of altitude (especially on your body), where to swim and what to do with the animals you meet, there are some recommendations to follow before, during and after your trip. They are explained by the American Centers for Diseases Control (CDC).

In the case of remote destinations and / or adventurous activities, assumptions that should not be underestimated are that, - there may be little or no access to medical care, - communications could be unreliable - Sudden changes in climate could make relief efforts difficult. For this reason, it is good to inquire about the possible health risks before leaving, and to go to a doctor who specializes in tropical medicine (or in any case specific to the type of trip you will make). In general, the steps to follow could be the following: - vaccinations at least 4-6 weeks before departure - if you plan to go to the high mountains or go scuba diving, you can ask your doctor if it is appropriate to bring medications related to any problems that may arise - It would still be good to train early if you are planning on doing strenuous physical activity, and engage in activities for which your body is not prepared. - Pack a kit with prescribed, over-the-counter and first aid medications. - Depending on the location, bring sunscreen, insect repellents and hand sanitizers. - Finally, it is good to use reliable guides or travel companies. - If you have a fever during or after traveling to malarial areas, even up to a year later, it is essential not to underestimate it and to go to the doctor immediately. - If you feel unwell after returning home, it may be advisable to go to a specialist, tell him where you went and the activities done, if you have been bitten or scratched by an animal.

Healthy Holidays, do you know which are the most suitable destinations for you? Those with health problems should inform themselves and carefully evaluate the holiday destination, in order to choose places that, due to the climatic conditions and the altitude, can be beneficial for their health or at least not lead to a worsening of the ailments. 1, High Blood Pressure Those who have high blood pressure can go anywhere as long as they check their blood pressure even on vacation and avoid excessive altitudes and extremely high or cold temperatures. 2, Heart Disease People with heart disease who choose to spend their holidays in the mountains should avoid locations at high altitudes and should choose those located at heights no higher than 1,000-1,500 meters. The progressive reduction in the oxygen content of the air, which occurs with increasing altitude, can cause dyspnea (shortness of breath) or angina. People with heart disease should

also avoid traveling to countries where temperatures are extreme, very hot, or very cold, as these can cause the heart to be overworked. 3, Lung diseases People with lung diseases should avoid spending holidays at high altitudes, such as in the mountains, because the reduced oxygen content in the air can worsen breathing difficulties. For these subjects, even stays in places with a climate that is too hot or too cold are not recommended because extreme temperatures can cause exacerbation of respiratory disorders. 4, Asthma is not to be underestimated Those suffering from allergic asthma with allergy to grass pollen would do well to avoid the mountains, where the blooms are later and pollen may still be present in July and August. On the other hand, people with asthma allergic to dust mites can benefit from staying in our mountains above 1500 meters because, due to the reduced humidity present at these altitudes, the mites have great difficulty in surviving. Those suffering from allergic bronchial asthma or respiratory allergies should consult their doctor before deciding where to go on vacation.

5, Precautions for traveling by air, Air travel is in some respects more demanding than a bus journey because in airplanes the pressurization of the passenger cabin decreases with increasing altitude, and at the maximum flight altitude it corresponds to an altitude of about 2400 meters above sea level. In practice, the air is thin in the high mountains and this reduction in pressure and oxygen concentration in the air, while it does not cause disturbances in healthy people, can cause serious problems in numerous conditions to such an extent that the WHO prepared and made available a (not complete) list of what are normally contraindications to travel by air (suitability for travel should be decided on a case-by-case basis). This list includes, among others, subjects suffering from angina pectoris or chest pain at rest, recent myocardial infarction, stroke, severe chronic respiratory disease, dyspnoea at rest, unresolved pneumothorax, increased intracranial pressure due to haemorrhage, trauma or infection, any active and communicable disease, recent surgery or injury where trapped air or gas may be present, sinus or ear and nose infections, particularly if an Eustachian tube is blocked, sickle cell anemia and decompression sickness after diving. These contraindications also include pregnancy after the 36th week (after the 32nd week in the case of multiple pregnancies).

BEAUTY SOLARI | SEASONAL FRAGRANCES

CAMBIO DI STAGIONE CHANGE OF SEASON BENVENUTO SOLE! Ormai ci siamo. WELCOME SUN! Here we are. The time for a tan has arrived even in advance. But it is necessary to be careful, especially in the first days at the sea. With the right products. [Maria Cristina Righi]

Punctually with the arrival of the hottest season we return to talk of tanning and therefore of the sun. The greatest source of energy in the universe brings well-being and has positive effects on the nervous system (a kind of natural antidepressant), stimulates the synthesis of vitamin D, useful for the absorption of calcium by the body and to increase resistance to illnesses. But it also has harmful effects (it is the main cause of skin aging) caused by ultraviolet rays. If in the past only ultraviolet B were feared (the most intense during the summer months, especially in the hottest hours) in recent years the need to protect oneself from type A has also been demonstrated. EXCESSIVE EXPOSURE Basically what happens when we expose ourselves to the sun? The skin progressively becomes dark and this is already a defense mechanism that the body puts in place against radiation. The surface layer begins to thicken and at the same time produces a dark pigment (melanin) which forms a protective screen. But that alone is not enough to stop the skin aging process and the risk of tumors and skin spots over time, already activated by the first exposure to the sun. PROTECT THE SKIN The newest and most advanced products contain both physical filters (screens, such as zinc and titanium oxide, which refract the rays) and chemical (anti-aging and anti-inflammatory action) and exist in multiple formulations, from milk to gel to oil. dry and even water, without forgetting the sticks. They are increasingly specific and targeted to offer even more protection to the skin. ALSO BEWARE IN THE CITY Never underestimate the city sun. Also pay attention to the cosmetics used that can make the skin photosensitive, such as those based on retinol or glycolic acid. Sun damage builds up day after day, not just on vacation. Accidental exposure while waiting for the bus, walking the dog or riding a bike requires adequate protection in order not to become dangerous to the skin.

[Ilaria Santi]

DUBAI, THE CITY HITTING RECORDS In the last two years, many innovations have arisen in the Emirate. While we remained closed within the national borders, the city continued its unstoppable run, ushering in a whole series of new must-see attractions.

A Dubai i palazzi crescono come funghi.

In Dubai, buildings are growing like mushrooms. The last building that was inaugurated is destined to become an icon of art and design worldwide. It is the new Museum of the Future (MOTF), built in the heart of Dubai’s financial district. According to the New York Times it is “the most beautiful and high-tech attraction in the country, if not on the planet”. Its spherical shape and the words in Arabic engraved on the entire external surface of the building make this new construction unique and beautiful. The purpose was to represent the rebirth of Arab excellence in the fields of science, mathematics and research. And they succeeded. The project for the new Museum of the Future fully embodies Dubai’s always innovative approach and the leading role of the Emirate of futuristic constructions. Like The View at The Palm, the new 52-floor rooftop terrace of The Palm Tower which, from a height of 240 meters, offers an incredible 360-degree panorama of Palm Jumeirah (the palmshaped island), as well as to a splendid view of the Arabian Gulf and the Dubai skyline. Another record-breaking attraction is Deep Dive Dubai, the deepest swimming pool in the world. After touching the sky with the Burj Khalifa, still today the tallest skyscraper in the world in Dubai, they have seen fit to reach the center of the Earth as well. Among the latest news, there is also a new souk and shopping here is a joy for tourists. The Time Out Market, inaugurated at the beginning of 2022, is a street food market with zerokilometer products, all to be tried. Because Dubai is not only starred restaurants and expensive clubs, but it is also a city for all budgets. If you’ve never been there you should seriously consider it. It is an experience that is absolutely worth a trip. Info: https://www.visitdubai.com/it SiViaggia link: https://siviaggia.it/notizie/video/deep-divedubai-piscina-profonda-mondo/337088/

THE NATURE TRAIN AMONG THE CRETE SENESI Crossing one of the most iconic landscapes in Italy: the Val d’Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the steam train runs along a suggestive railway line, closed to ordinary operation in 1996 and kept alive as a line for the exclusive use of tourists. Today, the Val d’Orcia Railway, with its 51.2 km connecting the provinces of Siena (Asciano) and Grosseto (Monte Antico), represents the best way to spend a day in the most authentic heart of Tuscany and experience a “slow” travel experience. Info: https://www.fondazionefs.it/ THE MOST ISOLATED VILLAGE IN ITALY A handful of houses that seem to be suspended at 1,333 meters above sea level: Luserna (Lusérn), is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, located in Trentino. Secluded and immersed in a natural setting of great charm, it is located on the precipice of the Astico Valley. Isolation and difficulties in connections have contributed to maintaining the ancient Cimbrian language, of Bavarian origin, spoken by the settlers who arrived here shortly after the year 1000. The Haus von Prükk House Museum, born from the restoration of an ancient farmhouse, is the emblem of the traditions of this linguistic minority. Info: https://www.visittrentino.info/it VENETO VILLAS BY WATER Now you can visit some of the most beautiful Palladian residences in Italy by sailing along rivers and canals. The navigable itineraries cross a large portion of the Veneto region, discovering cultural sites, villages, cycle paths and local food and wine. The Veneto Waterways project promotes the enhancement of the heritage of the Veneto waterways with experiential and “slow” tourism proposals. Info: https://www.veneto.eu/

Dove ci sta dentro tutto: farm to fork, dalle fattorie alle trattorie, come ci dice l’Europa.

SLOW TOUR PADANO, FROM FARM TO FORKS

A vintage motorcycle converted to electric, a slow journey through the Po valley. Starting from Turin to get to Venice. In search of organic and sustainable agriculture Slow Tour Padano is an Italian TV program on air every Friday at 1pm on Rete4 channel. But first it is a journey, that is the reason why I am telling you about it. The itineraries of this third series follow the water paths, along the Po and other Italian rivers. Our calling is to be eco-friendly, and I ride a vintage motorcycle turned into electric, Elettrone. We aim to speak about earth and agriculture with all the efforts it makes to impact less on the environment. We started our travel from north-west Italy - Piedmont and Turin - to get to Venice, through the fertile womb of Padania area. In Italy we say that this land is “ubertosa”,

meaning “fertile, productive, producing in abundance”. I find no better adjective to describe the wealth of these lands, my homeplace. Not only because it is full of corn and alfalfa fields, vineyards and orchards, stables and dairies, but also because of its long story. The Benedictine land reclamations, the traces of Leonardo’s Renaissance agricultural inventions, from the Resistance and the New Resistance to the new ecological Renaissance. Here

I got what circular economy really is, and what does it mean to go for sustainability. Those are overused words, but they become real here, with a healthy agro-Po valley spirit. To save the Earth - with a capital letter - we do not have to leave uncultiveted the agricultural land. More than studying new ecological herbicides, we need to understand the culture of the earth. Where it all fits: from farm to fork, as Europe says. In the first episodes, I found an historic district in the outskirts of Turin, called Bertolla, where is a great laundrymen museum, telling a tradition also described by writer Primo Levi. In the Canavese area, I went to Lake Candia, where the water has a “glacial” history dating back almost 2 million years and where a group of volunteers take care of the lake through a Natural Park and a very active rowing club. I went to Vezzolano, near Asti, to understand what the National Research Council (Italian “CNR”) is planning about new agricultural machines saving Co2, and I discovered there is a precious Romanesque abbey nearby! In the Biella area, I climbed in Sessera Valley, almost a thousand meters high near Mount Barone to meet a shepherdess. Then I went near Vercelli to meet the President of Italian Ente Risi (i.e. Rice Institution), to understand how a paddy field could be grown in an eco-compatible way. In the nearby is the historical Abbey of Lucedio, where first Cistercian monks reclaimed and “invented” the rice supply chain. Finally, I got to Venice but instead of visiting Piazza San Marco, I went all around the Lagoon. I met an association recovering ancient historic vineyards (called “Laguna nel bicchiere” i.e. Lagoon in your glass, also on the Island of St Michele) and many people recovering the agricultural tradition of the islands (Vignole, Torcello and St. Erasmo islands). I went to the so called “fishing valleys”, an ancient ecosystem on which the very survival of the whole area depends (Venice included). I acted as a tourist in the calli (the Venetian streets) and all along the canals. I remembered my old trip to Nepal, many years ago, where my friend Marco Banchelli used to cycle on a floating bycicle on a lake… I tried it myself, thanks to my guide Fabrizio Bruno who sailed along the entire course of the Po river on this slow hydro-bicycle. Lots to see, you know... Watch Slow Tour Padano on Fridays at 1pm on Rete4 channel, replyed every Thursday in the late evening and online on the official website italiaslowtour.it
