May is off to an exciting start at Garden of the Gods Resort and Club. The calendar is filled with opportunities to engage; whether you join us for the Member Mingle featuring a touch of 90s-inspired nostalgia, Trivia Night to test your knowledge, Music Bingo at Wine Down Wednesday, or are attending our Kentucky Derby Celebration. From fun and educational classes, including a Watercolor Workshop, and Lunch and Learn with Strata Med, to pickleball and tennis events and clinics, there is something for every interest and every generation.
Coming up next month, we encourage you to attend our 75th anniversary celebration. Celebrating this milestone is an honor, and we are looking forward to wellness activations, curated historical exhibits to explore throughout the property, family-friendly experiences and the creation of a time capsule filled with significant artifacts, stories and photographs honoring the past 75 years. We hope you will join us with your family and friends for this unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime event.
We have a vibrant spring and summer ahead, I encourage you to take full advantage of all that May has to offer. Whether you join us for one event or many, your participation is what brings this community to life. Thank you for being a part of our remarkable 75-year legacy, and we look forward to seeing you around the Club this May.

This time of year in 1990 there were similar events happening including Mother's Day Brunch, and a Winemaker's dinner!

Memory from Margaret Hill
"Many of the entrees were prepared table side. On one particular occasion, Mrs. Hill had on a beautiful white organdy and painted dress and her sleeve became caught in a flame. The maitre d', Charles, quickly and efficiently extinguished the flame. The event caused lots of excitement and conversation, but Mrs. Hill was not hurt in any way. The maitre d' became known as "Flaming Charles."

Memory from Mike & Slade Nash
"The year we were Chairmen of Golden Camels - in the late eighties, I think - we had the worst September weather ever! The day of the practice round was rainy, cold, and windy. Not many ventured onto the golf course. We quickly organized bridge and other indoor activities. That evening, as we arrived at Margaret's house, there were snowflakes in the air! Slade kept calling Peterson Air Force Base for the weather forecast. The weather cleared slightly. We met with Bill Lawe and Andy Pollock and decided we could extend play an extra day, keep the party schedule, and still award the prizes at luncheon immediately after the last day's play. We can't remember winners or

Why Working Out with Others Actually Works
We all know exercise is good for us, but who you exercise with can be just as important as what you do. During Mental Health Awareness Month, it’s worth taking a closer look at how combining movement with social connection can significantly improve both physical and mental health.

You’re more likely to show up - When a workout involves another person, whether it’s a class or a scheduled walk, it creates a level of accountability. You’re not just relying on motivation; you’re showing up for someone else, too. Studies consistently show that people stick to routines longer when they feel a sense of commitment.
Your effort naturally increases - Working out alongside others often leads to subtle increases in effort. Whether it’s keeping pace in a class or pushing through a final set, group environments tend to bring out a little more energy and focus, often without you even realizing it.
It reduces stress in two ways - Exercise helps regulate stress hormones and release endorphins, while social interaction supports emotional wellbeing and reduces feelings of isolation. Together, they create a powerful combination that can improve mood, sleep, and overall outlook.
You add variety without overthinking it - One of the biggest barriers to consistency is boredom. Group fitness and partner workouts naturally introduce different formats, instructors, and pacing. This keeps your routine fresh without requiring you to constantly plan something new.
It builds confidence over time - For many people, especially when trying something new, the Fitness Center can feel intimidating. Being part of a group or working with a partner creates a more supportive environment, making it easier to learn, ask questions, and stay engaged.

TRAINING TESTIMONIALS

"Shahid was very helpful in my prehab and rehab following my total knee replacement. I was able to get back to playing golf in only 8 weeks post surgery. I also saw an increase in my club head speed!”
- PAUL JOHNSON
"Shahid’s personal training guidance through his extensive knowledge not only had me well prepared for the surgery, but I needed no walking assistance three days post op, and two weeks post surgery the surgeon told me that I was where he would have expected me a month later, and was amazed at my progress. ”

FITNESS CHALLENGE:
Move Together Challenge
This month is all about staying active while building connections and trying something new.
Challenge benchmarks:
Complete 18 “connection workouts” during May. A connection workout is any activity that gets you moving with others or in a shared environment.
Examples include:
• Attending a group fitness class
• Working out with a partner or friend
• Joining a walking group
• Participating in a class you’ve never tried before
Track your progress on the Fitness Challenge Board by marking each completed session.
Connection Bonus Opportunities (optional but encouraged!)
Earn bonus recognition by stepping outside your usual routine:
• Introduce yourself to someone new in a class
• Invite a member to join you for a workout
• Try a class or time you’ve never attended before
• Attend a class with a different instructor
Members who complete the challenge and check off at least 2 connection bonuses will receive special recognition at the end of the month. This challenge is designed to keep workouts engaging, build community, and help you stay consistent as we move into the summer season!

" Shahid showed exercises that I could continue at home and quizzing that I was doing them. This was a great motivator for me. Through his guidance, I was able to play golf within 10 weeks, I have attained a greater range of movement in my knee than I had prior to surgery, and generally feel better. I am now 5 1/2 months post op with some pain yet but able to do all that I physically care to do.”
