Goodwill works extensively in our community through their many programs that help Coloradans overcome barriers to economic and personal independence through education, training, and job placement. An Enchanted Weekend is Goodwill’s flagship event, and we are delighted to say that over $1 million dollars supported their mission last year from funds generated by this event, and we even received an award recognizing our contributions.

Most students don’t practice this shot nearly enough. It seems that many golfers just deal with the shot when they get into the bunker on the course. Without proper mental and physical preparation this shot can truly destroy your score and make your golf less enjoyable. We are fortunate enough to have a nice short game facility to work on our bunker game…use it! The only way to get better is to practice. Don’t be afraid of the bunkers.
2. Get used to a longer backswing!
The second thing that’s important to understand is the amount of swing, and speed, that goes into this shot when you’re greenside. Here’s the challenge. The shot only goes about ten to fifteen yards, so your mind is trying to process why you are making your fifty-to-sixty-yard swing with the flag so close to you? Think about this, it gets even harder if you’re going to hit a greenside bunker shot with a pond, trees, or even worse, OB stakes on the other side of the green. But the simple truth is you need to get comfortable making a longer swing, even when the ball is going to travel a short distance. Now you may be afraid to hit the shot and you really don’t want to swing. Without practice this shot can become absolutely paralyzing and therefore most golfers will have a hard time making the commitment to that kind of speed. It is critical that you practice this shot, so that you have the confidence to accelerate the club through the sand, watch the ball fly, knock it close and make more of those up and downs.
3. Hit the sand first!
The third thing that most golfers should practice more is hitting the sand first. With a greenside bunker shot you are looking to hit the sand anywhere from two to three inches behind the golf ball. You are looking to hit the ball basically fat, and what golfer, on the range, is practicing hitting behind the ball? No one! This is so important to understand. A drill I often use is to draw a line in the bunker, and practice hitting that line without a ball. Your goal is to throw sand out of the bunker, which means when the time comes, you’ll

Milling is technology. Rightly or wrongly, milled putters traditionally come off as more pieces of jewelry or art, not the product of rigorous science and engineering that’s often touted with modern day face-insert mallets and blades. The more modern approach to putters talks about the science of center of gravity locations or high stability on off-center hits through perimeter weighting (otherwise known as moment of inertia). The face inserts use grooves or other features designed to enhance roll.
Milled putters seem a refined throwback.
But while TaylorMade has introduced plenty of high-tech putters over the years, and many that have been overwhelmingly successful like the Spider line, its interest in milled putters has been mild and rarely of note since the Kia Ma line of Rossa putters debuted about 15 years ago. This new TP Reserve collection, however, is a bold statement, and there’s a sincere effort to push the boundaries of art through science.
Sound is technology. Each of the putters in the TP Reserve collection features grooves on the face. Not a new idea for TaylorMade, whose grooved face inserts have been part of its putter line for two decades, but in the TP Reserve putters, the grooves serve a different purpose. Rather than improved roll, the 14 grooves in the center of the face are about a consistency in sound.

GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE IMPROVEMENTS
When it comes to maintaining a golf course, every decision is made with precision and careful consideration. One such decision that came up was the area on the right side of 6 South fairway bunker. This seemingly simple choice serves several important purposes.
To begin with, 6 South has been bare and some might even say unplayable. The area to the right of side 6 South bunker was hard, compacted soil with no vegetation or grass. For most right-handed golfers hitting driver of the tee box, shots tend to go right, especially on a dog leg right hole layout.
To correct this problem, we first had to reestablish the edge of the bunker. We took loads of top soil and raised up the edge of the bunker about 8 inches. After raising the edge of the bunker, we then placed sod around the edge of the bunker to create a clean edge and maintain the shape of the bunker.
When the bunker edge was complete, we then used our pull behind Aerovator, a slit seeder/aerator to seed the remainder of the rough. Ryegrass was dropped, punched and spread into the ground to begin germinating. This area was roped off the avoid cart and mower traffic and was consistently fertilized and watered over the next month.
The rough on the right side of the bunker helps to define the playing area and adds visual appeal to the course. By contrasting the sand in the bunker with the green grass, it not only enhances the overall aesthetics but also provides a clear distinction between the playable rough, bunker, and native grass.
The rough on the right side of the bunker now acts as a natural barrier, helping to prevent errant shots from rolling out into the native grass. Having rough in this area also allows golfers the ability to hit a playable 2nd shot from the rough if trying to cut the corner on their tee shot.
RACQUET SPORTS TIP OF THE MONTH
SERVING POSTURE - When starting your point it is crucial to begin with a high 1st serve percentage. To develop a high 1st serve percentage some players may even use a heavy second serve as their first. You want to have a consistent, reliable serve to apply the pressure to your opponent. One thing to focus on is having the right toss and holding the “Trophy Position” long enough through your serve. If our tossing arm moves down too early that can result in the ball going into the net. Keep holding your tossing hand up straight and for as long as possible through your service motion. Keep practicing your toss in front of a mirror or tossing and catching the ball with your arm fully extended to become consistent with your toss. jackie & Prashant had a beautiful Indian fusion wedding with us in 2022. Their day was filled with breathtaking outfitting and wedding decor. They celebrated the brides American wedding traditions for the ceremony and then showcased the grooms Indian culture during the reception. There were many details that went into the getting ready portion of their big day, especially for the bride. Jackie booked one of our cottages for all her important ladies to use as a bridal ready room for the morning of. This was a great way to spend time with the Bridesmaids, Sisters and Mothers before Jackie said "I Do". Our Cottages provide a large living room space with three rooms connected to it. With this space, our Strata Spa Hair and Makeup Team can come to your cottage and glam up your entire crew in the living room while you all sip on some bubbly to calm the wedding gitters and enjoy one of our delicious Ready Room Spreads.

Jackie & Prashant did a wonderful job at infusing American and Indian wedding traditions into their big day. After the couple finished their American wedding ceremony, Jackie changed out of her stunning beaded white wedding dress and into a beautiful ruby red velvet Saree for the rest of the evening. Prashant also changed out of his sleek all black tuxedo and into a Sherwani jacket with intricate beading throughout and a Turban covered in gold bead work. As you entered into the reception room, the vibrant colors truly captured the energy and joy of this bride and groom. It was amazing to see the amount of intention that went behind all of their details. We absolutely love this beautiful merging of Indian and American wedding traditions.
