MOBILE MARKETING: A RESOURCE TO HARNESS
MOBILE MARKETING: UNA RISORSA DA SFRUTTARE
Think about it: there is almost no time of the day when we don’t have a screen nearby, whether it’s a phone on the desk, a tablet on the sofa, a computer for a call, or a monitor on the car’s dashboard while driving. The smartphone, in particular, has become our inseparable companion. It is no longer just a telephone; it combines functions like an alarm clock, reminder, navigator, photo archive, and work tool. In a few seconds, it allows us to search for information, make purchases, book a table or a medical appointment, listen to music, and check the weather. It’s all available immediately, always at hand. Globally, it is estimated that $5.78 billion people use a smartphone today, which is over 70% of the population. It is no surprise then that more and more companies are placing mobile marketing at the core of their communication strategies.
What Is Mobile Marketing And What Are Its Benefits? Mobile marketing is the set of actions and strategies used for communication that occurs on mobile devices: specifically smartphones, tablets, and wearable technologies. The goal is to reach an extremely vast and heterogeneous audience - in terms of age, gender, and purchasing behavior - and to reach them in their daily lives, in any place and at any time, in a very short timeframe. Through mobile marketing, and with contained investments, a company can activate communication that is more direct, immediate, and personalized. On one hand, this reduces the risk of spam and intrusiveness toward customers. On the other hand, it fosters interaction and socialization with the brand, which are ideal levers for increasing brand awareness and building customer loyalty. Another advantage of mobile marketing is that it allows for the management of various channels and touchpoints to interact with the consumer. This is referred to as omnichannel and is linked to the potential of the mobile device to cover the entire sales funnel. This means physical and online channels
Mobile Marketing Strategies Here are the main mobile marketing strategies: 1. QR Code Marketing: This involves the use of QR codes that can be easily and quickly decoded by mobile devices. Generally, this strategy involves placing QR codes on products or promotional materials to direct the user toward additional information about the product itself or promotions. 2. SMS Marketing: These are campaigns characterized by sending promotional SMS messages to a selected contact database. Experts suggest targeting existing customers to avoid appearing aggressive and choosing content such as special offers, events, or other situations that offer a potential advantage to the buyer. 3. App Marketing: These campaigns, typically using push notifications, generally invite the user to download the brand’s app or register within the portal to stay updated on promotions, participate in contests, quizzes, or other activities. 4. Proximity Marketing: This type of activity allows for the promotion of products and services within a specific geographic area. It is primarily used in retail, as it provides a way to reach a user who is physically close to a point of interest or even inside the store. 5. Native Mobile Advertising: This is a type of advertising that adapts subtly to the contexts of use, with the goal of lowering the service unsubscription rate. It can take various forms, depending on the platform used. For example, on search engines, advertisements may appear as sponsored search results, while on websites and blogs, they may take the form of sponsored articles that tell stories or offer information relevant to the target audience. 6. Social Media Marketing: These are advertisements created ad hoc and published on various social platforms. As you can see, mobile marketing can be applied in different ways and contexts. Obviously, the choice of strategy to use will depend on the type of objective you want to achieve with your campaign.

can be integrated, guiding the customer through every phase of the purchasing process and building an increasingly phygital experience. Furthermore, thanks to tools like applications and mobile websites, the brand can consolidate its relationship with customers by offering a functional, engaging, and content-rich user experience. Including mobile marketing in a marketing campaign is now essential for any company. This is also demonstrated by the behavior of international digital giants. For example, Google has implemented “mobile-first indexing” for several years now, meaning websites are evaluated based on usability, speed, and optimization for mobile devices.

Arctic Bath Hotel, Sweden Just south of the Arctic Circle in Swedish Lapland, this hotel opened about 10 years ago with a design - interwoven floating logs on the Lule River - that immediately evokes the importance of timber to Scandinavian economic development and the region's centuries-long history of river-based lumber transport. Completely immersed in nature that dazzles whether ice-covered or sun-drenched, Arctic Bath is accessible only via a suspended bridge and features just 6 accommodations made from wood and stone. At the center of the circular main building sits an open-air pool. Management places strong emphasis on environmental sustainability, focusing on pollution reduction, ecosystem preservation, and efficient management of resources like water and energy.

CARIBE BAY WINS THE MOTORE ITALIA VENETO AWARD 2025
The list of awards for Caribe Bay, the water theme park in Jesolo (Venice), has been enriched with a new, prestigious recognition: the Motore Italia Veneto Award 2025. The initiative, organized by Milano Finanza-Class Editori, is aimed at business organizations in the Veneto Region that have achieved excellent results in recent years, distinguishing themselves both in their own sector and as a model in pursuing goals of responsible and lasting growth for the territory. The official motivation for the award presented to Caribe Bay reads: "For having created one of the major attractions at both regional and national level, with particular attention to environmental sustainability and the goal of carbon neutrality, focusing on innovation in the offering." "This award represents a source of great pride and, at the same time, recognition of the commitment that for almost 40 years we have dedicated to Caribe Bay and its role of excellence in the theme park sector," commented Luciano Pareschi, CEO and founder of the park. "An industry that generates value for the entire territory in terms of employment, tourism and sustainable development."
PARIS FIGHTS OVERTOURISM BY REDUCING HOLIDAY APARTMENTS Paris has decided that hospitality has a limit. The boom in holiday apartments was transforming the city, with neighborhoods emptied of their residents and occupied by a continuous flow of tourists. This year, the municipality reacted with a crackdown, and according to data released by the Deputy Mayor for Tourism, the results are substantial: the number of holiday apartments has dropped from 98,000 in 2024 to 60,000. The goal - the deputy mayor clarifies - is not to eliminate tourism, but to bring it back to levels compatible with the lives of Parisians, who "must still be able to find housing." The measures implemented by Paris primarily involve imposing an annual limit on short-term rentals. It has been established that owners can rent their primary residence to tourists for a maximum of 90 days per year (it was previously 120), a limit also in place in cities like London and San Francisco. Additionally, the registration of tourism rentals has been made mandatory, with fines of up to €100,000 for those who don't follow the new rules. Controls have been intensified, and apparently, the Parisian administration has already identified approximately 25,000 irregular activities. Operating outside the regulations is therefore becoming a risk that can be costly.

NEWS DUBAI SURPASSES LAS VEGAS IN HOTEL ROOMS AND WELCOMES THE WORLD’S TALLEST HOTEL
Tourism in Dubai keeps on growing. According to the most recent data, the emirate attracted 12.54 million international visitors during the first 8 months of 2025, up more than 5% over the same period last year. As visitor numbers get bigger, the number of hotel rooms also expands: between January and August, the emirate’s total hotel inventory rose to almost 152,300 rooms across 818 properties, with 5-star and 4-star hotels representing nearly 2 thirds of Dubai’s total stock. Thanks to these numbers, Dubai now surpasses Las Vegas by a few thousand rooms in hotel capacity, a city that, unlike the emirate is experiencing a notable downturn in tourism, with hotel occupancy, visitor numbers and spending all slipping. To give you just one figure, the latest 2025 data released by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) reveals that the city welcomed about 3 million people last September, an 8.8 percent decrease in visitors compared to the same month last year.

THE SAGRADA FAMÍLIA HAS BECOME THE TALLEST CHURCH IN THE WORLD // One of
the symbols of Barcelona, and its major tourist attraction, is the Sagrada Família, which in 2024 alone welcomed over 4.8 million visitors, 87% of whom came from abroad. The first stone of this cathedral with its unique architectural style was laid in 1882, and since then construction work has been ongoing, managed by a foundation and financed by worshippers and tourists. On October 30, there was a step forward destined to go down in history: on the central tower of the complex (the tallest one), the lower arm of a cross was positioned, 7.25m high and weighing 24 tons, thus bringing the Sagrada Família to a height of 162.91m. With this height, it has become the tallest church in the world, surpassing Ulm Cathedral in Germany, which with its 161.53m had held the title until then. However, the record of these weeks is destined to be broken. The basilica will in fact continue to grow: when the entire cross is installed, the tower will reach 172m. According to plans, the construction of the tower should be completed in 2026 and coincide with the centenary of the death of Antoni Gaudí, the visionary Catalan architect who designed the cathedral. At that point, however, the building will still not be fully completed: work on the sculptures and decorative details should continue at least until LA SAGRADA FAMÍLIA È DIVENTATA LA CHIESA PIÙ ALTA DEL MONDO

THE POWER OF SMELL

To help guests sleep better, wake easier and never miss breakkie, Holiday Inn Express chain by IHG has introduced “Breakfast Alarm Clock,” a clever in-room device that helps to wake guests with the irresistible smell of breakfast. The scent-based alarm clock, the first designed by a hotel brand, is being tested out at branded hotels across the Asia Pacific – Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand and Japan – for a limited time. The concept was inspired by new research commissioned by Holiday Inn Express, that found 58% of travellers in Asia Pacific say a pleasant smell helps, or would help, them feel better when they wake up, especially while travelling. When asked which scents would lift their morning mood, respondents named coffee or tea (56%), bacon and eggs (43% in Australia), baked goods (38%) and fresh fruit (30%). These top picks have now been bottled into 3 deliciously familiar wake-up scents available with the “Breakfast Alarm Clock”: coffee, bacon and blueberry muffin in Australia and New Zealand, as well as nashi pear in Japan, and mango in Singapore and Thailand. Dean Jones, Vice President of Commercial, East Asia & Pacific, IHG Hotels & Resorts, says, “We know from the research that travellers across Asia Pacific are struggling with sleep, and many skip breakfast when they travel – sometimes to save money. We’ve intentionally designed the Holiday Inn Express experience with the best of both worlds: everything needed for a proper night’s sleep, plus a free hot breakfast. We want guests to maximize their stay with us, whether it’s for work or leisure, or both – and the research has been a great way to direct our attention to do more of what matters most.” n

WIBIT SPORTS INTRODUCES NEW PLAY MODULES FOR ITS INFLATABLE WATERPARKS, SOME OF WHICH CAN ALSO BECOME STANDALONE WATER ATTRACTIONS
MAKING ROOM FOR IDEAS AND FUN IN THE WATER
W
hen the sun's out and temperatures rise, water becomes an irresistible draw for people of all ages -- especially when there's something exciting to do. However, the budget and space to build a proper waterpark aren't always available, so in many cases the best solution turns out to be an inflatable waterpark. It can be set up (larger or smaller, depending on the location), for example, in a swimming pool, as well as on a lake or river, or even in the sea, and that's why more and more are choosing it: resorts, hotels, campsites, beach clubs, event organizers, etc. The idea is simple: floating inflatable modules can create a sort of grown-up playground or obstacle course: a safe activity that is suitable for all ages and popular as it stimulates physical activity and competitiveness, with any mistake that is

rewarded with a refreshing splash in the water. The impermanent nature of inflatables means they are easy to set up and remove, their manufacturing features make them quite inexpensive, maintenance is not burdensome, and the modular structure makes it possible to size your attraction up or down over time. It's a perfect combination with good profit potential, and one in which the initial investment often pays for itself within the first season. One of the world's biggest and oldest manufacturers of inflatable waterparks is Wibit Sports from Germany, a company founded some 30 years ago and boasting installations in over 100 countries, from Alaska to Fiji, and that include projects that entered in the Guinness Book of Records, such as "the largest inflatable waterpark ever built" in Saudi Arabia in 2021. The park was over 6,800sqm, made up of more than 200 modules that from above created the words "Saudi Arabia" and where up to 700 people could play simultaneously. Innovative and creative thinking is one of the distinctive features of this company, evident in its regular launch of new products, configurations, and activities. The latest releases - 6 new additions unveiled in recent weeks - fall into 2 categories: modules designed to enhance existing waterparks with fresh activities, and standalone attractions suitable for installation in pools or shallow water. In the first category is "LevelPass," a bridge that's far from easy to cross. Users must position themselves

horizontally - feet on one arch, hands on the other - then carefully coordinate their movements to inch forward. It's a demanding challenge guaranteed to generate plenty of laughs as participants inevitably tumble into the water. Similarly challenging is "QuickJump L," a 6-meter module featuring 7 pads. Hopping from one to the next looks simple but demands speed and coordination that will test most users. Among the standalone attractions, "Wave" stands out as the most impressive: a massive dual-lane slide standing 5m tall and stretching 15m long. It requires a minimum water depth of 3.4m and includes a ladder system for quick returns to the launch platform. The slide surface stays constantly wet via an irrigation pump that can optionally run on solar power.

"SpeedSlide" offers another sliding experience - a 14-meter attraction perfect for large pools with at least 1.2m of depth. Users build up speed on the run-up, then slide for several meters (standing, lying back, or on their stomach) before splashing down. "MatchBallArena" works in the same depth and delivers group entertainment: "preys" balance on an inflatable beam at the structure's center while "hunters" try to knock them off by hurling 4 oversized tethered balls at them. The more players, the better. "TripleScore" brings basketball to the water in a compact format suitable for everyone. Players compete to score the most points across 3 available hoops. A ball-return system automatically brings thrown balls back to the front, keeping the action flowing without requiring staff supervision. n

A HOSPITAL OPENS WITHIN STUDIO CITY RESORT IN MACAU // Last December, China President Xi Jinping was
in Macau to celebrate the island’s 25 years of Chinese rule, and during his visit he stressed the importance of diversifying the area’s economy beyond gambling. “At present, the overall situation in Macau is stable, but the internal and external environment is undergoing profound changes,” he said. “Efforts should be made to promote new industries with international competitiveness.” In other words, attracting 40 million annual visitors Macau is still the world’s leading casino destination, but the pandemic, with the restrictions that long blocked the flow of tourists leading to the closure of several casinos, left a great lesson: an economy centered only on gambling is vulnerable. The island is thus undergoing a metamorphosis and the new sector it is focusing on is medical tourism, an industry that is proving profitable in other Asian realities such as Singapore, South Korea, and India. In Macau, where resorts abound - it is within them that the casinos most often are - it is no wonder then that they are starting to equip themselves to offer their guests, alongside leisure, also healthcare. And so Studio City, a mega-resort with a Hollywood theme opened 10 years ago by Meco Resorts, recently opened a 1,400sqm hospital inside, managed by the private healthcare group iRad Hospital and providing luxury medical services, including advanced health screening, diagnostic imaging, and cosmetic surgery. The goal is to encourage the resort’s guests to extend their stays, to explore the new medical offerings, and to see Macau not just as a place for fleeting entertainment, but a destination for sustained well-being.

APRE UN OSPEDALE ALL'INTERNO DEL RESORT STUDIO CITY DI MACAO // A dicembre, il presidente cinese Xi

The standard kit for a claw arcade visitor always includes a transparent bag or small backpack. What a pleasure to fill them with plush toys and other prizes!
The spread has reached such proportions that dedicated store chains already exist. Kawaii Klaws, for example, started with one location in Southern California, and now has 10 in the state, plus 2 others in Texas, one in Oklahoma, and new openings planned in Indiana and Minnesota. Kon-Ni-Chi-Claw, meanwhile, promotes itself with the slogan "Authentic Japanese Claw Machines & Plush Prizes Nationwide" and currently counts 6 arcades across Arizona, Colorado, and California, with more on the way in Florida, New Mexico, and Texas. Fantasy Claw Arcade aims for 30 locations by the end of 2027 and at least 100 throughout the US within the next 5 years. The brand just launched a franchising program in recent weeks, following the success of its 2 Las Vegas locations opened in 2024: one at the Fashion Show Mall on the Strip (which, at 420sqm, is promoted as "Nevada's largest claw arcade") and the other at the Miracle Mile Shops inside Planet Hollywood Resort. These arcades see monthly attendance exceeding 10,000 visitors. Locations and Audience In the US, the most common placement for claw arcades is inside malls, with venues typically ranging from 150sqm to over 400sqm, depending on the number of machines and any other complementary offerings. physical retail and its repercussions in terms of vacant commercial spaces and reduced visitor traffic, are constantly looking for fresh concepts capable of attracting the public and keeping them in the complex longer. And claw arcades lend themselves to this now that they are the new attractions of the moment, also boosted by strong word-of-mouth on social media generated by videos posted by players themselves, which garner thousands (sometimes millions) of views. Moreover - and this is not a minor point - they appeal to a broad audience. Operators and experts explain that, with no surprise, families with children frequent these venues, but also adults who played with grab machines as kids and are returning to do so (with a lot more money in their pockets) to reconnect with those memories. And then there are many “kidults”, the growing group of adults across various age ranges who maintain a strong interest in entertainment and toys. Especially those from pop culture - like action figures, trading cards, and other collectible gadgets - which are precisely among the prizes available in the crane games. The Venues: Style, Machines, and Prizes The style that dominates the majority of US claw arcades is one that reflects Japanese models: dozens of machines neatly arranged side-by-side, generally bright neon lights, and kawaii music playing in the background. In some cases, the offerings are completed with cafés (where bubble tea is never missing) and party rooms that may also have stages for dancing or karaoke.
At the counter, you buy tokens to play and can also exchange multiple smaller prizes for a more significant one.

The appeal of claw arcades engages everyone: families with children, nostalgic adults, and young people. These venues offer a fun, social, and interactive experience that contains challenge but also gratification. Because, big or small, you’ll win a prize, that’s for sure.
The machines have different difficulty levels (usually indicated by labels) and, more importantly, vary in size. Large, very large, small, and very small cranes; with one or more player stations; with a single claw or multiple claws (reaching 10 in the "Claw King" grab machine at Fantasy Claw Arcade in Las Vegas); traditional or in variants like prize-cutting machines or other instant prize redemption games like "Keymaster" or "Drop It Win" by SEGA Amusements. The prizes obtained directly from the machines, or at the counter by exchanging multiple smaller prizes for one of greater value, are also diverse. The assortment is always carefully curated and ranges from plush toys (often licensed and featuring characters from Asianorigin cartoons, anime, manga, and video games, such as Hello Kitty, Pokemon, or Super Mario) to action figures and various collectible gadgets, up to the highly coveted blind boxes (like those for "Labubu" figures) or board games. Continuous prize restocking is also important, with new arrivals every 1–2 weeks, usually announced via social media. More often than cards, the machines typically operate on tokens (a game costs an average of 1–2 dollars). The player purchases these at the entrance and, along with the 'coins,' he/she is also provided with roomy, strictly transparent plastic bags: the pleasure of playing and enjoying the complete experience is realized when one

gradually fills the bag and proudly shows it off. The Appeal Factors It may be surprising that consumer electronics are almost entirely absent among the prizes. In reality, licensed pop culture collectibles are just as coveted as wins, and knowing that when you play, you always leave the venue with something in your bag is a strong draw. The machines in claw arcades are, in fact, set with higher payout rates (apparently around 25-30%) compared to the grab machines in normal arcades. Here, winning is within everyone's reach, and this encourages repeat games and customer loyalty. Even if the monetary value of the prize isn't that of a latest-gen smartphone, the experience is worth the cost: it's fun, immediate (the gameplay is very simple, and you know instantly whether you've won or lost), interactive, challenging, but at the same time, gratifying. The experience itself has a retro flavor that is fascinating and is very social in the sense that it lends itself to being shared on the spot among friends or family, and via social media. Claw arcades seem to have the characteristics of being more than just a fleeting trend. They are here and spreading to stay and carve out a precise niche in the US entertainment landscape. We will see how successful they are and if their popularity also spreads to Europe. n

It will elevate riders to a height of over 94m, giving them a heart-stopping view of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex area before plunging them into the world’s longest 95-degree beyond vertical drop

Another record-breaking inversion will be a 54.5m tall vertical loop, the highest of any coaster, of any type in the world. Finally, “Tormenta” will be the longest dive coaster on record, featuring a 1,280m long track packed with airtime moments, sharp turns and exhilarating drops that are intended to replicate the running of the bulls. It’s no coincidence we mention bulls as the brand-new giga-dive coaster will be themed after the famous annual running of the bulls in Pamplona.

LEOLANDIA PARK IS INSTALLING ITS 2026 COASTER
In recent days, after months of excavation and preliminary work hidden behind construction barriers, the northern Italian theme park Leolandia reached a major milestone: laying the first track section for "Reversum," the biggest roller coaster in the park's history. The attraction will debut next spring at the start of the 2026 season, marking Leolandia's 55th anniversary. The coaster will deliver a level of adrenaline never before experienced at this park and features a still-secret thrill element that promises to be a game-changer. It's part of a €15 million investment plan launched this year, aimed at expanding the attraction lineup with increasingly exciting rides designed to appeal to school-age children and teens. "Reversum marks the beginning of a new chapter and strengthens our positioning as a family destination, growing alongside children and offering fresh experiences for older kids as well," said Giuseppe Ira, Leolandia President. "The 2025 season performed well, especially considering weather conditions and market trends. For 2026, with Reversum's launch and our 55th birthday, we're projecting a 20% increase in attendance."

UNIVERSAL KIDS RESORT IN FRISCO, TEXAS: NEW DETAILS REVEALED
A NEW REGIONAL THEME PARK FOR FAMILIES
W
ell-known for its giant resorts around the world, Universal Destinations and Experiences is now building a smaller scale theme park on 39 hectares of land in Frisco, just north of Dallas, Texas. Called Universal Kids Resort and set to open next year – probably in May, in time for the FIFA World Cup - it will be the first Universal theme park specifically designed for families with young children, a new audience for the US brand. Although regional and small in size in comparison with other Universal resort destinations, it will carry that same quality and feature family-friendly rides and attractions, interactive shows, character meet & greets, unique merchandise, food & beverage venues, and a 300-room hotel. Recently Universal has shared lots of details and new concept art for the theme park, revealing that it will include 7 themed lands, each one crafted around a major Universal franchise: Isle of Curiosity, DreamWorks’ Shrek’s Swamp, Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants Bikini Bottom, Illumination’s Minions vs. Minions: Bello Bay Club, Jurassic World Adventure Camp, DreamWorks’

WHY FRISCO?
The choice of Frisco as the location for the new Universal Kids Resort is no accident. Over the past decade, this Texas city of approximately 235,000 residents has become one of America's most dynamic communities, experiencing explosive population growth (over 500% in 20 years) and boasting an exceptionally high percentage of young families. It's an area with ambitions to become an entertainment and technology hub, and Universal has clearly recognized the potential of an audience that grew up with iconic films like Shrek, Minions, and SpongeBob, now eager to share the magic of these beloved characters with their own children. Construction of Universal Kids Resort began in November 2023 with an estimated investment of around $550 million, accompanied by infrastructure projects like the new Universal Parkway, which will connect the park to major transportation routes. This is more than just a cultural project—it's an urban development initiative: Universal Kids Resort aims to help shape this expanding city and contribute to its future identity.
TrollsFest, and DreamWorks’ Puss in Boots Del Mar. “When creating Universal Kids Resort, we leaned into that childlike curiosity and invited play to be our guide,” said Molly Murphy, President of Universal Creative. “Every detail was designed through a child’s eyes from signs at their heights to colors that invite them in. The result is a park that’s pure joy and an absolute celebration of what it is to be a kid.” Families will enter the theme park through the Isle of Curiosity, a space dedicated to Gabby from DreamWorks’ Gabby’s Dollhouse, while at Shrek’s Swamp guests will enjoy a family ride and interactive play areas themed around the popular green ogre, his wife Fiona and their 3 adorable triplets. Families can also venture to Puss in Boots Del Mar featuring a swing ride, carnival games, and a puppet performance dedicated to the fearless cat and his friends, while Bello Bay Club is home to the iconic Minions and themed attractions such as a raft river ride and a water play area. The excitement continues for kids and families as they experience thrilling moments exploring Jurassic World Adventure Camp and its rides, also including a family coaster. More fun abounds at TrollsFest, a land that surrounds guests with music, color, and the perfect celebration thanks to the King Trollex Techno Dance Party interactive experience, a Trolls-themed stage show, a colorful balloon ride and a kiddie coaster. Finally, in SpongeBob Square Pants land attractions are, among others, a themed plane ride, a wet

MOMENTUM LEISURE SECURES BUILDING PERMIT AND FINANCING FOR NEW THEME PARK IN POLAND
MOMENTUM LEISURE OTTIENE PERMESSI E FINANZIAMENTO PER UN NUOVO PARCO A TEMA IN POLONIA
Momentum Leisure, the Dutch developer and investor behind Poland’s successful Majaland theme parks, has officially started preparations for its fourth Polish park. The new park will be located in Gliwice, southern Poland, next to Europa Centralna shopping center. The acquisition of the site from Belgian investment firm Mitiska REIM, owner of the shopping center has already been finalized and last October Momentum Leisure also obtained the building permit as well as a total of 50 million euros in new financing. The park will cover 67,000sqm, including 10,000sqm of indoor attractions and 10,000sqm of outdoor attractions. Construction is scheduled to begin by the end of this year, with the opening planned in Q2 2027. The park will be themed with well-known international brands, including Nickelodeon characters (such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Teenahe Mutant Ninja Turtes and PAW Patrol) and The Smurfs. Two roller coasters have already been purchased for the first phase from renowned manufacturers Zierer and Gerstlauer. One of these coasters will be built partly indoors and partly outdoors. “This new park will be a completely new concept,” said Wouter Dekkers, CEO of Momentum Leisure. “We’re still targeting families, but with a shift toward an older age group (up to 12-year-old boys and girls). Thanks to the excellent location and unique attractions, we expect to welcome between 400,000 and 600,000 visitors per year from Poland and neighboring Czechia. Our investments reflect not only our confidence in Poland’s economic potential, but also our belief in the power of shared family experiences.” In addition to Poland, the company is also expanding into Romania, where it has acquired land in Bucharest, targeting a combined regional market of 55 million inhabitants.

In the end, the extension was 438 hectares compared to 155 for the same event in Osaka. It must also be said that Dubai was in the immediate post-COVID period, so the spaces felt even larger due to defections. In Osaka, however, one element immediately brought to mind the more familiar theme park environment: the long waiting lines. The organizers had introduced an elaborate booking system, but judging by the wait times and the criticism reported on social media, the system was not efficient. pavilions was facilitated, but, just as happens in parks, for visitors who face travel costs and purchase a daily admission ticket without being able to enjoy all the attractions, the frustration is justifiable. Other technical inconveniences such as metro line interruptions, bacteria in the water, and gas leaks seemed to support those who had criticized the Expo from the start and had somewhat downplayed it. But in fact, it was ascertained that the lines were long mainly because there were many visits. Once inside the pavilions, the visitors' investment of time and money was indeed rewarded. Those who attend an Expo (the fourth in our case) want to see the innovations in future daily life, they want to visit other countries without having to take a plane, and they want to be part of a global village where there are no wars or problems, and everyone is treated equally. In this, the Osaka Expo achieved its objective, and the results were positive even in economic terms for the organization, with a profit of almost 30 billion Japanese Yen (more than 166 million euros). The themes of the Expo traditionally evoke an ideal future where technologies, innovation, and a sense of responsibility improve daily life, and in this, the missions of many theme parks, such as Epcot at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, are also recognizable. This year's theme at the Osaka Expo followed the same model and was "Designing Future Society for Our Lives." The theme was chosen to invite the international community to reflect on new societal models that can respond to global environmental, social, and technological challenges, with the goal

The experience offered in the pavilion was to imagine anything, including an individual, transforming into

a digital entity and interacting with other elements in nature, also digitized, to explore philosophical concepts like being part of infinite spaces or going beyond life. Next, we paused at the Gundam Pavilion, which attracted large crowds, particularly animation and technology enthusiasts. The main attraction was an imposing 17-meter-tall robot model in perfect anime style. Once inside, visitors participated in an immersive spatial experience surrounded by animated characters, exactly as can happen in a theme park. The Signature Pavilions, on the other hand, brought visitors back to reality with more realistic themes such as "Dynamic Equilibrium of Life" and the "Theater of Dialogue," which offered an artistic and philosophical approach to exploring the theme of life. The USA pavilion, the home of theme parks, was, to our surprise, more disappointing. The theme chosen by the Americans was "Imagine What We Can Create Together," and the pavilion consisted of two triangular buildings and a suspended cube. Nothing emotionally relevant, despite a welcome video from President Trump indicating that it was a special pavilion. There were immersive videos and demonstrations that focused on American leadership in technology, space exploration, education, culture, and entrepreneurship, themes that did not seem current in the current geopolitical scenario. The food area did not help improve the impact, given that American cuisine does not have a particular renown, but we appreciated some regional specialties like Maine lobster. Even the media judged the overall visual impact less "striking" compared to bolder architectures. Other notable attractions were the Spain Pavilion, for its sustainable construction made with almost five tons of recycled marine waste; the Germany Pavilion, for its sustainable architecture and playful approach
An approx. 17-meter-tall Gundam robot statue welcomed visitors to the same-name pavilion hosted by Bandai-Namco. The Most Coveted Award Goes to Italy Among the many awards presented, the Italy Pavilion won the absolute first prize in the 'Theme Development' category, the most prestigious and coveted recognition conferred by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), the intergovernmental organization that supervises and regulates World Expos. This is a historical first for Italy, surpassing every previous result achieved in past universal exhibitions. The Italy Pavilion was titled "The Art that Regenerates Life," designed by Mario Cucinella Architects and inspired by the Renaissance "Ideal City" concept and artwork. Following a presentation on a large screen, the screen itself, formed by various panels, opened to allow visitors inside the pavilion, giving the impression of entering the screen and thus becoming part of the content. These contents were divided into three acts: the Theater, the Ideal City, and the Italian Garden.
The pavilion hosted works of inestimable value, such as four precious original drawings from the “Codex Atlanticus” by Leonardo da Vinci, exhibited on a rotating basis. Other iconic works on display included the Farnese Atlas, the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Torches, and the sound stones of the sculptor Pinuccio Sciola. The interactive workshops in the "Ideal City" section and the VR multimedia shows completed the immersive experience. Celebrities were present, such as Jun Ichikawa, actress and ambassador for the Italy Pavilion, and Ligabue, who held a concert at the Matsuri Arena as part of the Italian cultural program. The success of the Italy Pavilion was evident to us from the fact that it was crowded even during the last days of the Expo. The impression was later confirmed by the data. It recorded an estimated total of 2.4 million visitors, exceeding initial forecasts and establishing itself as one of the most successful pavilions in terms of attendance. Expo 2030 The next edition of the World Expo will take place in 2030 and is already shaping up to be spectacular.

by the Dubai Expo can be expected. Secondly, there is renewed talk of the metaverse. The Expo will, in fact, be visitable virtually by anyone, but not as if watching a video, but rather in a way where the virtual and in-person experience offer the same emotions. Furthermore, there will be ample space for innovation, primarily driven by AI experiences that, in five years, could be very different from what we experience today. Not by chance, the already defined theme is "Foresight for Tomorrow," with sub-themes including "Transformational Technology." The space dedicated to the Expo will then be converted into an urban area dedicated to entertainment, with restaurants, live events, and social spaces. In this, however, Osaka showed a greater orientation towards entertainment. The spaces occupied by the Osaka Expo on Yumeshima Island will, in fact, be partly dedicated to the development of Japan's first Las Vegas-style casino, with the help of the US-based MGM and Orix, a local company specializing in financial services. This is a sign that participating countries in World Expos may have projects that show sometimes utopian scenarios, but for entertainment, the projects are concrete. n

Lo spazio dedicato all’Expo sarà poi riconvertito in uno spazio urbano dedicato all’intrattenimento, con ristoranti, eventi live e spazi sociali.

EXPERIENTIAL RETAIL: THE THALIA BOOKSTORES IN GERMANY
BIGGEST, BUT LOCAL

f you have a reader in your life, you’ll know how they hurtle themselves into any and all bookstores, from quaint and dusty corner bookshops to huge chain stores under neon lights. But if you are a bookstore, what can you do to attract customers? The answer is experiential retail, that is: offer your visitors memorable and interactive experiences that go beyond the sale itself. Case in point: the Thalia Mayersche bookshop in Cologne, Germany. Nestled in Cologne’s vibrant Altstadt, the Thalia Mayersche bookstore at Neumarkt is a striking urban oasis of about 3000sqm across three floors. Partially rebuilt while remaining open, since autumn 2024 it boasts an imaginative redesign that marries retail and local identity. At the entrance, a marketplace-style layout echoes the historic Neumarkt, welcoming visitors with stalls, trees, and an inviting café. Suspended in the stairwell are five bright yellow gondolas, faithfully modeled on Cologne’s Rhine cable cars, two of which can even be entered, while shelving evokes the Hohenzollern Bridge adorned with love locks.

There is also an area with flexible furnishings on the second floor, that can convert part of the space into a 250-seat event venue, perfect for readings or workshops. For all this and more, in March 2025 the Thalia Mayersche bookshop in Cologne Neumarkt was awarded with the “Store of the Year 2025” award, presented by the German Retail Association (Handelsverband Deutschland, HDE) during their annual Retail Real Estate Congress in Berlin. With over 400 stores across Germany and Austria, and 60 more in Switzerland, Thalia is the leading bookstore chain in the German-speaking world, with a market share of about 20 per cent after the merger with Mayersche Buchhandlung in 2019. With such numbers, it would be easy to standardize everything, instead Thalia has made an intentional shift toward experiential retail that highlights local differences. Flagship branches like Leipzig span multiple floors with cafés, event stages, and immersive “worlds” for books and gifts, designed as inviting spaces to linger. Smaller city-center shops are streamlined,

prioritizing bestsellers and school supplies in a compact layout. Visual design also varies: some stores incorporate local features, like wood paneling in historic town centers, maritime décor in the coastal city of Hamburg, regional artwork, furniture that nod to local identity, or the minimalist design of the Swiss Orell Füssli branches. The strategy seems to work, as Thalia continues to grow. For 2026 the chain plans a 1,800-squaremeter flagship store in central Berlin and another one in Frankfurt, which will be 2,500sqm in size. As for 2025, so far there have already been several new openings, relocations, and re-openings after extensive renovations. For example, last May, a new flagship store opened in Leipzig, followed in June by a new smaller bookstore in Stralsund, on the Baltic Sea. On that same month, the Bremen Thalia’s store also reopened, completely renovated, covering 2,000 square meters. It now pays homage to the city, recreating, for example, the picturesque houses of the historic Schnoor district in the children's book area and a seating lounge modeled after the grandstands of the city stadium. Out of Thalia’s new bookstores for 2025 the most remarkable is perhaps the flagship store in Hamburg, inside the new Westfield Überseequartier shopping centre on the Elbe River. From the striking façade with crane-inspired elements to copper-toned shelves mirroring the Speicherstadt brick roofs, and from the industrial ventilation grilles to the container-themed entry, the new store is a 1,700sqm, two-level celebration of Hamburg’s maritime spirit. The ground-floor children’s area features an imaginative “underwater world” centered on a bright yellow octopus slide. Meanwhile, the “Buch & Bohne” café invites visitors to relax on ferrylike benches while gazing at the Elbe. On both floors, a full bookstore assortment. “We are proud and happy that, here in the surroundings of HafenCity, right at the harbor edge, we’ve opened the doors of our new Thalia bookstore for our customers,” said Thalia’s Director, Johannes Brancke. “A true flagship store of Thalia that will set a tone well beyond Hamburg.” And, let us add, well beyond most other examples of experiential retail in bookshops, too. n

WE CAPTURED THE CASTLE

estled among the Alps in northwestern Italy and straddling the Swiss border, Lake Maggiore is a beloved tourist destination, a blue mirror reflecting the close Alpine peaks and dotted with poetic islands, stately villas, palm-lined promenades, fishing villages, and historical castles. A cluster of those castles, the Castelli di Cannero, reopened in summer 2025 to the public after a monumental restoration project. Located on two picturesque rocky islets off the north coast, the ancient fortified complex of Castelli di Canero includes the main fortress and the prison building. The structures, which date back to the 15th century and had been abandoned for decades, required delicate consolidation and safety work, but have now become an evocative and technological museum, thanks in part to the narrative exhibits designed by Milan-based agency Dotdotdot, which transform the visit into an immersive experience.

The tour begins with a boat trip, and then winds its way through the fortress, covering most of the ramparts and several interior rooms that house exhibits on the history of the fortress, the surrounding area, and its key historical figures. The Dotdotdot project, called Cannero Walking Tales, gives voice to the architecture, imagining that the ruins themselves tell their own story: first among them the Vitaliana Tower, a tower that really bears a plaque engraved with the words “My name is Vitaliana Tower, erected among the waves of Lake Verbano and christened with the name of the original lineage.” The exhibit project, like the architectural one, was intentionally “gentle” and non-invasive: it includes an app-based audio guide that is activated by proximity, immersive projections, and augmented reality stations, but without the excesses of transforming the castle into a show. The audio guide, which is automatically activated during the tour thanks to a beacon system, feels like reading an audiobook while strolling through the spaces.

TECHNOLOGICAL VISIT FOR A NATURAL PARK Another project signed by Dotdotdot was also launched in summer 2025: the new exhibits at the Natural Museum Minà Palumbo in Castelbuono, inside the Madonie Park, in Sicily. Once again, this is a project that combines storytelling, design, and technology, focusing on physical, narrative, and cognitive accessibility to highlight the museum's riches and the wonders of the local area. The project doesn’t disown the museum's historical exhibits, as seen in the way it makes use of the vintage display cases, but at the same time it makes the experience fully accessible, for example by placing panels and display cases at a height that is accessible to people with motor disabilities, or by adding 3D reproductions and Braille texts for the visually impaired or blind. Here too, an app automatically guides visitors, activating content at the right moment as they move through the space, thanks to beacons integrated into the exhibition panels. Visitors can also activate extra information by placing their smartphone close to the panels. The exhibition is completed by a digital diorama that offers a sensory immersion in the heart of the Madonie, and recreates the natural environment of the park thanks to 3D environmental scans and immersive audio that reproduces natural sounds and atmospheres.

The projection mapping installation narrates other episodes in the Castelli’s history.
In other rooms, augmented reality offers poetical animated overlays that dress up the architectural elements. Finally, there is also something for younger visitors with Heraldry Game, an interactive treasure hunt that uses the same beacon system to guide children and recites nursery rhymes to offer clues and little puzzles. The aim of the game is to find the lost tiles that make up a coat of arms, hand-painted ceramic tiles that are hidden among the ruins and can be collected and digitally reassembled. “Walking Tales respects the expressive power of the ruins,” explains Laura Dellamotta, co-founder of Dotdotdot, “and integrates with their physical reality without overwhelming it, just as Salvatore Simonetti’s restoration chose not to rebuild, but to enhance the fragile and authentic identity of the Castelli di Cannero.” Vitaliano Borromeo, president of SAG (now Kaleon), the company that manages the Borromeo family’s museum properties, echoes this sentiment: “With this important restoration work, the Castles of Cannero are once again a living place, open to the community. More than five hundred years after Ludovico Borromeo settled here, the fortress can be enjoyed by visitors, enriching the cultural landscape of the Lake Maggiore area and joining the other Terre Borromeo destinations.” n
