Garden Partners - This year the Market proudly launched a new program supporting local non-profit through our Garden Partners initiative. We’ve hosted eight events at Galt’s Saturday Market throughout the year so far, with a portion of proceeds benefiting Helping Hands, a local organization trying to make a difference in our community.

Health Partnerships - The Market is more than a shopping destination, it’s a space for wellness and connection. Through our education and family resource programs, we aim to promote healthy living and community engagement. We’re also proud to provide the facility to South County Services helping them to reach more families in need.

AN INVITATION GET INVOLVED

The City of Galt invites the community to the 19th Annual Galt Winter Bird Festival, a day dedicated to celebrating the incredible diversity of birdlife that graces our region each winter. Every year, the festival brings together bird enthusiasts, nature lovers, and families to experience the beauty and wonder of wildlife through a wide range of engaging activities.

Visitors can look forward to guided bird-watching tours, educational workshops, and wildlife photography exhibits designed to inspire appreciation and awareness of local ecosystems. The festival also features kid-friendly activities, local vendors, and delicious food trucks, making it an ideal outing for all ages. Whether you’re an avid birder or simply looking for a fun way to connect with nature, the event offers something for everyone.

This year’s keynote presentation highlights the Peregrine Falcon, one of nature’s most remarkable birds of prey, with special guest Aaron Haiman, an expert from Birds of the California Delta. Through his talk, attendees will gain fascinating insights into the lives of these extraordinary birds and their role in our local habitats. The Winter Bird Festival continues to be a beloved Galt tradition where people come together celebrating not only birds but the spirit of community and conservation that keeps the region thriving.

Visit www.cityofgalt.org for full details.

Measure Q

In 2022, the City engaged hundreds of residents to solicit input on their community priorities. Residents indicated they were interested in maintaining services to parks and recreation and wanted to ensure that our City was well maintained.

As a result of this feedback, the Galt City Council placed Measure Q – the City of Galt Essential Services Measure - on the November 8, 2022 Municipal Election ballot for voter consideration. Measure Q, a local one-cent sales tax, passed by a majority vote in the 2022 Municipal Election. Funding generated by Measure Q expands the amount of locally controlled funding available for City services.

After placing Measure Q on the November ballot, Galt City Council adopted a Spending Priorities Resolution regarding the use of revenue generated by Measure Q.

The resolution prioritizes spending of revenue generated by Measure Q as follows:

• Parks & Recreation: Revenue generated by the Measure will be used for parks and recreation, including (i) maintenance and improvements to facilities, structures, and property at all City parks and recreation facilities and (ii) recreational programming support for community events, or other recreational programming for adults and youth.

• Landscaping, Weed Abatement, and Blight Prevention of City Property: Revenue generated by the Measure will be used for landscaping maintenance purposes, inclusive of weed abatement and blight prevention on publicly-maintained property throughout the City, including landscaping areas and at all parks and other areas of the City, as deemed necessary by the City Council.

As a “general tax,” the current City Council, or any future City Council, could direct at any time that any revenues raised by this tax be spent on any governmental services, including 911 emergency response services, public safety, crime prevention, homelessness, or any other priorities and services requested by the community and/or deemed necessary by the Council. A change in the spending priorities would require a vote of the City Council.

Measure Q expenditures are subject to public disclosure of spending and independent audits. Measure Q does not apply to groceries or prescription medications.

For more information about Measure Q, please visit www.cityofgalt.org.
