Around the Club New Member Hole in One Tom Terch hasn’t been at The Gallery a long time, but it doesn’t mean he can’t jump in on the Member Hole in One Action! Mr. Terch recorded his hole in one on #3 of the North Course from 157 yards out.
Hardest Shot Turns Up an Eagle It’s said the hardest shot in golf is a long bunker shot. Do you hit the ball first like a pitch, take an 8-iron for a long blast shot, there are many possibilities. However Leal Roberts did it, she holed out for an eagle on #7 of the South Course from 65 yards during the Ladies Member Guest! Besides recording a hole in one recently, Bev Wellen had eagles on #4 & #7 of the South Course and shot a career low 80 on Monday, March 30th. The eagle on #4 was a hole-out from 139 yards out. Witnessing her great round were Nancy Lutgens and Joan McHugh.

Gallery Associates Moving Onward and Upward! The Gallery is bidding a fond adieu to two associates who are moving on and up in their respective careers. Brian Schaffer, who came to us last spring as an Assistant Golf Professional from Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa Valley, CA, has accepted a PGA Professional position at Alpine Country Club in Cranston, Rhode Island. Brian will be working for Jeff Beier, who some of you will remember was our Director of Sales and Marketing for a little over a year shortly after Troon took over management of our Club. Jeff moved on to Alpine CC as their new General Manager last summer. Brian has provided tremendous assistance while here, most notably overseeing the merchandising area of the Golf Shop while we were in transition prior to Alyssa taking over the reins. Brian shared his knowledge and experience with Alyssa in training her to be the face of merchandise for The Gallery. Jason Mullin, who joined us as an Assistant Golf Professional in a seasonal capacity last fall from Torreon Golf Club in Show Low, AZ has also accepted a new position…his, as Membership Director at Salina Country Club in Salina, Kansas. Jason and his fiancé are looking forward to their new life and opportunity in Middle America, which is closer to their home state of Iowa. Jason will use his vast talents on the computer with website management and design to raise the marketing presence of Salina Country Club and hopefully attract many new members to their Club. The Gallery has become a popular venue within the Troon stable of talent. This facility does a wonderful job of preparing associates for advancement in all departments. Other Troon facilities are often looking to The Gallery for fresh new ideas and or best practices as well as talent. In the past two and a half years we have farmed out Garrett Wallace, our General Manager in multiple capacities…we have also sent our Chef, Brian Steiner to Manchester Country Club in New Hampshire for 3 weeks in his same capacity…last summer Paul Nolen, our Head Golf Professional, spent 6 weeks at Columbus Country Club in Ohio as Interim General Manager to assist in getting them through the season and most recently, Vanessa Baker, our Membership Experience Manager was also sent to Columbus Country Club for 3 weeks to assist with their Membership sales and marketing. As you know, we have recently been on the receiving end of Troon talent in the form of Jerome Louie as our Assistant General Manager helping us out in the Food and Beverage Department…he has been a wonderful addition to our team this season. Troon is following through with their promise of providing opportunity for its associates and The Gallery is right in the middle of the action!! Congratulations to Brian and Jason!! We wish you all the best!!

Championship Week
During Championship Week we celebrate the camaraderie and competition this wonderful game provides. First we take to the course for an informal Par 3 contest. Next, we sit down and enjoy a great meal and conversation with fellow participants and their significant other. Then, we take it to the course for the Men’s and Ladies Club Championship! Everyone is encouraged to experience Championship Week regardless of skill-level (flighted). It’s about the game, competition and heart of The Gallery Golf Club! Wednesday, April 15th Par 3 Contest No Cost to Championship Participants Champions Dinner Our menu is selected by the previous year’s winners; Jon Valuck and Barb Parker (pictured below). Enjoy a three Course meal of salad, a beef tenderloin and salmon duet, followed by delicious desserts, including key lime pie. Pump Station Update I went to Phoenix yesterday to inspect the progress on the pump station being built for The Gallery North. It is ahead of schedule moving the delivery date from April 30th to the week of the 15th! As we mentioned in our last report, the entire platform and plumbing components are being construction of stainless steel. Therefore upon its completion all components will be disassembled and sent to be glass-beaded, offering a consistent satin finish. The pump towers along with the valves will be painted with “effluent� purple epoxy to signal its content. All electronic components are housed in the 8x10 three door water proof air-conditioned cabinet, shown in the attached photos. It will feature on peak hours monitoring to conserve electrical costs. Installation will take two days with only a temporary dry down of the turf on the North. The South Pump Station will provide enough water pressure to the North during this installation to hydrate any hot spots which may occur on the greens. This improvement to our facility will provide many years of trouble free service to The Gallery Golf Club. G.M.I. is a locally owned company in Phoenix that presently maintains and repairs our existing pump station and will continue providing service to the new system they built and will install later this month. Featured Plant The Strawberry Hedgehog Cactus (Echinocereus engelmannii) is commonly found in desert areas of the southwestern United States. It usually grows in clusters, sometimes up to 20 and more stems. Its bright magenta flowers bloom in April in its southern extremes to late May at northern locations. The flowers are borne at the upper half to one third of the stem. They are funnelform in shape, up to 3.5 inches long with dark-green stigmas. The fruit is very spiny. At first it is green, becoming pink and drying when ripe. The ripe fruit has spines which are easily detached. The seeds are black, and around a tenth of an inch in size. Echinocereus engelmannii is commonly used as a landscape plant in its native areas. In pot culture it requires well aerated gritty substrate, and a hot and sunny location in the summer. In the winter the plant easily tolerates light frost and wet (if well-drained) soil. In cultivation it usually does not bloom until it develops 2-3 branches.
