T

here are people moving to Southwest Florida who want to rent for a while as they take their time seeking their dream home. There are those that have lived here in condos for years, but are now tired of the HOA fees and the interior maintenance. Some people have sold their homes, choosing to move further inland to avoid the worries of future hurricanes. Then there are the local workers that would love a luxury place, but can’t afford to buy. Those are the people now moving into the new Bimini Square in Cape Coral. The five story, community includes 198

studio, one, two and three bedroom apartments in an array of layouts. Some have dens. They all have balconies or terraces. Some overlook the water, while others have courtyard views. There’s an infinity edge rooftop pool, club rooms, a fitness center, sauna, dog park and dog washing room, covered parking and access to boat slips. Larry and Matt Nygard, a father and son team based in North Dakota who have been building projects in the upper Midwest since 1987, came up with this concept of luxury living without buying. “We vacation a lot in Naples. I ran into somebody from Fargo that lives in Cape Coral and they told me Cape Coral needs

apartments buildings,” said Larry Nygard President of Crown Development. “This was 6-7 years ago. We started investigating the market and he was right.” The apartment complex just had it’s grand opening and Nygard says the timing is perfect for Bimini Square. “I think there is a lot of opportunity for population growth,” he continued. Rent ranges from $1,600 to the $5,000s a month and include internet. Leases can be as short as seven months giving people a chance to try it out, but not be locked in for a long time. Nygard wanted Bimini Square to look at feel like an upscale condo community. “Everything is upgraded,” he said as he pointed to the appliances, vinyl flooring and dimming lights and fans. “Our thought was, if you were going to buy a condo, what would you want. All of today’s modern requests you are going to find here. That was really our strategy. Let’s give them

something they will really like. We expect people will live here longer. They will settle in here and stay. It is built with amenities galore.” The apartments are not only a variety of sizes, and they have a large variety of layouts. “They are not cookie cutter,” Nygard stressed. Bimini Square is across the street from a marina and from Bimini Basin Seafood & Cocktails and House of Omelets. It is next door to Lee Health’s new two-story health care facility and outpatient clinic. There is a six story parking garage that holds more than 500 vehicles. The pool terrace is on the seventh level on top of the garage giving sweeping views of the water and surrounding community.
