We are excited to welcome you again to the beautiful city of Tampa! We invite you to fully enjoy the ambience of the Tampa Convention Center and the Tampa Bay area. The Florida sunshine and cool breezes of springtime in Tampa provide the perfect time for this annual meeting of the Florida Veterinary Medical Association, and we thank you for choosing to join us this year. This meeting promises to be our best yet as we provide world-class continuing education for the entire veterinary care team. Our program begins on Thursday with a full day of wet labs, followed by lecture sessions, and additional wet labs on Friday and Saturday. The program offers specialized scientific and clinical tracks for the small animal practitioner, topics designed specifically for veterinary technicians, as well as practice management and professional development classes to benefit your team. We are committed to exceeding expectations in 2019. GENERAL INFORMATION WORLD-CLASS CONTINUING EDUCATION AT AN EXCEPTIONAL VALUE! The 90th FVMA Annual Conference offers an outstanding continuing education program for veterinarians, veterinary technicians and other members of the small animal veterinary care team. More than 300 CE hours are being offered which include stimulating lecture sessions and hands-on wet labs. Our world-class scientific program, along with a dynamic exhibit hall of more than 90 exhibitors, and many unique networking and social activities make the 2019 FVMA Annual Conference an opportunity to experience an excellent weekend of enrichment and enjoyment.
CONTINUING EDUCATION Each 50-minute lecture is equal to one continuing education credit. Attending veterinarians may earn a maximum of 29 credit hours; technicians and other team members may earn up to 20 credit hours (inclusive of wet lab hours). For your convenience in recording your general session CE hours, one certificate will be included in your registration packet. It is your responsibility to document the sessions you attend and the number of hours you receive. Wet lab certificates will be distributed to wet lab attendees. The 90th FVMA Annual Conference lecture program is presented live and qualifies as interactive CE, approved by: ■ American Association of Veterinary State Boards RACE, Provider #532 ■ Sponsor of Continuing Education in New York State ■ Florida Board of Veterinary Medicine, DBPR FVMA Provider #0001682

Lectures will briefly review ultrasound physics and artifacts, and assist the participants in fine-tuning the image. Normal intra-abdominal structure will be reviewed and abnormal intraabdominal pathology will be emphasized. Wet lab participants will gain experience in completing a routine small abdominal ultrasound examination, knowledge of normal sonographic anatomy and appearance of commonly identified pathologies. Some of the more challenging intra-abdominal structures to image will be emphasized. Interaction between the radiologist and the participants will be encouraged, and the attendees will have an opportunity to address personal areas of concern in their understanding of abdominal ultrasound scanning techniques.

This laboratory will cover case selection, operative techniques, post-operative care and complications of medial patella luxation surgery. Participants will learn to perform a stifle arthrotomy, tibial tuberosity transposition and trochleoplasty.
This laboratory will cover case selection, operative techniques, post-operative care and complications of extracapsular repair for cranial cruciate ligament rupture. Participants will learn to perform a stifle arthrotomy, medial meniscal release and extracapsular repair using traditional techniques.
Through a comprehensive and interactive lecture (lots of banter between the two lecturers!) with several case examples followed by a hands-on laboratory on live animals, participants will have the opportunity to learn and practice the skills of VPOCUS. VPOCUS is commonly used as a patientside diagnostic tool to rapidly identify underlying conditions and help direct further diagnostics and therapy. In addition, vascular access techniques using ultrasound will be discussed and practiced on a phantom chicken breast model. Have you ever struggled to place an IV catheter in patients that are dehydrated, have hematomas, thick skin or edema? Ultrasound can help!

Owner of A Happy Vet and Helping Hands Pet Hospice
Dr. Cherie Buisson has worked as a multispecies veterinarian, a feline-only practitioner and a shelter veterinarian. In 2015, she opened Helping Hands Pet Hospice, which provides house call pet hospice and euthanasia. In 2017, she became one of 60 Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Veterinarians in the world. Dr. Buisson started A Happy Vet in January 2016. The website is devoted to supporting veterinary professionals as they learn to take care of themselves and create happier workplaces. She is an international speaker, giving talks and workshops on end-of-life care and professional development with the goal of finding contentment in this amazing field. Dr. Elizabeth Strand is the Founding Director of Veterinary Social Work (VSW) and the “All Creatures Great and Small” Endowed Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Tennessee Colleges of Social Work and Veterinary Medicine. She is a licensed clinical social worker, experienced family therapist, Grief Recovery Specialist and a Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction Teacher. Her professional mission is to encourage the humane treatment of both people and animals, and to care for those professionals who care for animals. This lecture explains instrument handling, cleaning and sharpening; the importance of proper cleaning technique; probing; and charting. Following is a detailed, hands-on wet lab providing instruction on the proper way to do a complete dental prophylaxis and oral examination including accurate charting. Learn how to properly handle instruments using the latest state-of-the-art equipment taught by some the most highly trained veterinary technicians in veterinary dentistry. There is a low teacher-to-student ratio to ensure everyone receives individual instruction while probing, cleaning and charting the mouth of a dog and cat using cadaver heads. This is the most effective way to learn correct and safe techniques because it imitates real-life patients without the stress of having to monitor anesthesia while trying to learn at the same time. The lecture also describes landmarks, drug doses, benefits, contraindications and complications of dental regional blocks. Correct placement and administration of local block analgesia is practiced using cadaver heads and skulls until the attendees are comfortable with this skill.
This is a one-hour lecture discussing safety, terminology, normal and abnormal anatomy, basic pathology, and labial mounting of dental radiographs, followed by hands-on training. Learn how to obtain a diagnostic intra-oral radiograph using the latest state-of-the-art equipment taught by some the most highly trained veterinary technicians in veterinary dentistry. There is a low teacherto-student ratio to ensure everyone takes all the images necessary to obtain full mouth radiographs of a dog and cat using cadaver heads. This is the most effective way to learn intra-oral dental radiography because it imitates reallife patients without the stress of having to monitor anesthesia while trying to learn at the same time.
