Staying in constant search for our groups of interest is our goal to be recognized as Ingenio Providencia. Under the premise that only what is known is loved, at Ingenio Providencia we try to keep the best relationship with our groups of interest. This being the reason to constantly search for necessary means to be known and recognized in every area we interact. B Corporations
Providencia first sugar mill in the world certified as B Corporation
¿What is a B Corporation? All B Corporations measure their social and environmental impact and make a personal, institutional and legal commitment to make decisions considering long-term consequences of their actions in the community and environment. They assume with responsibility and pride to belong to this global movement of companies that want to make a change using the driving force of the market to provide solutions to social and environmental problems.
¿How to become a certified B Corporation? Companies that are certified as B Corporations are not perfect but assume a commitment to continuous improvement and place their socio-environmental business purpose at the center of their business model. The five most relevant areas of the company are measured and analyzed: Government, Workers, Clients, Community and Environment. This creates a detailed review of all areas in order to help identify all points of improvement and opportunities to become an agent of change in the economy protecting the mission and enhancing the triple impact. B Corporation certification is issued by B Lab a non-profit company in the United States. B Corporations redefine the sense of success of the company receiving a collective brand as market identity. They undergo a comprehensive sustainability assessment through certification and recertification instances and make amendments to their legal governance tools. (“How to be a B Corporation?” n.d.) Jorge Isaacs Library
Providencia provided a library that will benefit almost 2,000 students at Jorge Isaacs Educational Institution in El Cerrito
The library has 1,570 books including encyclopedias, children's and youth books, as well as computers and video beam for the community. For Ingenio Providencia, quality education is one of its commitments with the community. In 2022, Providencia will continue to develop and invest in education projects, such as: Providencia Educa, Providencia Connect and After School. Beginning the school year and aligned with its sustainability strategy Providencia provided a library that will benefit nearly 2,000 students at Jorge Isaacs Educational Institution, in El Cerrito. The investment on this project was more than 100 million pesos which were allocated to restructuring the school areas, provision of teaching materials and technological equipment, in addition to, supplying comfortable furniture in accordance with the needs of the educational community. The library seeks to promote an area for learning and educating through an extensive catalog that contains 425 children’s books, 348 youth books, 506 informative books, and 291 encyclopedias, for a total of 1,570 books, computers, and a video beam for different grade groups. Likewise, it offers a technological area and resources providing an enriching experience full of well-being and comfort. “Providencia has always been willing to provide considerable attention to educational needs of children and youth in El Cerrito. We have witnessed this through scholarships awarded and training sessions provided for our students in environmental issues. As principal of this Educational Institution, I feel very grateful to Providencia for this new opportunity that offers our children and young people to have an area that promotes education in an environment that is not only dignified, but also pleasant,” said Martha Isabel Mera, principal at Jorge Isaacs educational institution in El Cerrito.

Providencia provided a library that will benefit almost 2,000 students at Jorge Isaacs Educational Institution in El Cerrito In July 2021, Providencia provided another library to Santa Elena Educational Institution. This is a project that currently benefits more than 1,500 students in Santa Elena district. Both projects have been carried out with the support of Bibliotec Foundation, a non-profit organization created by 22 private sector companies with the aim to strengthen the Public Library Network of Cali and other municipalities in Valle del Cauca department. This has been a fundamental resource for providing consultation services to the team of librarians in educational institutions. “At Providencia, we seek to facilitate our children's access to knowledge, cultural appropriation, science, and technology because we are convinced that education is the way to generate equity and opportunities among the people in our communities and region,” stated Vicente Borrero, Providencia CEO. Providing libraries is part of Providencia’s educational offer and support initiatives to educational institutions. It currently benefits more than 4,000 people in the region through Providencia Integral Training Center, Providencia Educa scholarships, and Educando para el Futuro (Educating for the Future) programs.
