THE MISSION OF THE ARTS ADMINISTRATION PROGRAM is to provide its graduates with a strong academic and practical foundation for a successful professional career in the arts sector. The program stresses the premise that arts administrators are at the service of the arts, education, society at large, and of the overarching goal of enriching the human experience. It is based on the idea that future leaders of the field need to understand the roots and characteristics of the nonprofit arts sector in the United States, be familiar with different management models, be able to assess the artistic and aesthetic implications of their managerial decisions, and have the analytical skills needed to navigate the ever-changing landscape of the nonprofit arts and culture world. During their studies, students take a number of classes that make up the program’s core curriculum and, in consultation with the program director, choose the elective courses that best suit their professional goals. In addition to their work in the classroom, students engage in professional internships that put their academic knowledge into practice and help them develop the skills needed in the professional world, resulting in a high success rate of job placement after graduation.

GRADUATE PLACEMENT The master’s program is designed for students who seek administrative positions with symphony orchestras, opera companies, choruses, music festivals, museums, arts centers, community programs, and arts councils, among other arts organizations.
