ABOUT THE ARTISTS Alfonso Padilla is a Spanish saxophonist with great international prominence, as proved by the amount of concerts, recitals and master classes offered in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Italy, France, Denmark, Estonia, Poland, Switzerland, Portugal, Morocco, Algerie, Argentina, Taiwán, Singapore and USA. An eclectic musician, his musical tastes and interests encompass many diverse genres and styles, although Alfonso Padilla’s current work is mainly and evenly focusing both on the performance of classical and contemporary music, and saxophone teaching. He forms part of various musical groups and projects, such as the Ziryâb Saxophone Quartet, the Duo Icarus (sax&guitar) along with Alberto Plaza and regularly collaborates with groups and ensembles specialising in performing contemporary music as Zahir Ensemble or interdisciplinar arts as Alquimia Musicae. Padilla’s other focus is education and saxophone teaching, having extensive teaching experience starting in 1998. He has been saxophone teacher at the Conservatorio Superior de Musica “Manuel Castillo” of Seville between 2006 and 2019 and he regularly conduct masterclass in Spain and abroad as in:Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (Tallinn, Estonia) ,Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana (Lugano, Switzerland), Royal Academy of Music of Aahrus – Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium,(Aarhus, Denmark),Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional Boulogne-Billancourt (Paris, France),Conservatorio “Jaccopo Tomadini” (Unine, Italy),Conservatorio “L. Perosi” (Campobasso, Italy),Institute of Music “Frederik Chopin” (Warsaw, Poland),Vorarlberger Landeskonservatorium Feldkirch, Austria),Koninklijk Conservatorium (Brussels, Belgium),Escola Superio de Música e das Artes do Espectáculo do Porto (Porto, Portugal). He is invited to teach master classes in different courses and international sessions like Eventosax (2011, 2014 and 2016) in Velletri (Rome, Italy) togueter Fabrizio Paolleti or the International Saxophone WeekPorto 2012 (Portugal), where he formed part of the lineup of professors alongside J.M. Londeix, Arno Bornkamp, or Henk van Twillert.In 2014, he tours USA, conducting seminars and offering recitals at four prestigious American universities: Messiah College (Mechanisburg, PA), Susquehanna University (Selinsgrove, PA), Mansfield University), (Mansfield, PA), and Eastman School of Music (Rochester, NY). In 2015 he was invited to the Vienna Saxfest (Austria) where he plays as soloist in the ORF Radiokulturhaus, I Asian Saxophone Congress (Taiwán 2016) V Seminario/encuentro entre Compositores y Saxofonistas de La Plata (Argentina, 2016) Singapore Saxophone Symposium (2018), Stage Internazionale di Sassofono de Fermo (Italy, 2018), Festival Panasax (Panamá, 2019), Alpen Classica Saxfest Bressanone (Italy) and Festival Internacional de Saxofón “Villa de Teror” (Gran Canaria, 2020 ) and he participates on the World Saxophone Congress in Strassbourg (France, 2015) and Zagreb (Croatia, 2018). With regard to his academic education, Alfonso Padilla studied music at the Conservatorio Superior de Música “Rafael Orozco” in Córdoba (Spain), having Bernardo Zagalaz and Manuel Ureña as his professors.
After his higher education, he took masterclass with leading saxophone figures, the most outstanding being Daniel Deffayet, J.M. Londeix, Claude Delangle, Vincent David, Phillip Braquart, or Gilles Tressos, among others. On a continuous basis, he receives classes from Eric Devallon, professor at the CNR de Bayonne (France), and from Arno Bornkamp, international soloist and professor at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (Netherlands). Alfonso Padilla is teacher at Conservatorio Superior de Música “Manuel Castillo” in Sevilla. Praised for “spirited” (Boston Globe) playing and “vigorous and passionate” (New York Times) performances, Chinese-born pianist Qing Jiang enjoys a diverse career in solo, chamber, and contemporary music. As a concerto soloist, Jiang has appeared with the Britten-Pears Orchestra under maestro Oliver Knussen, and the Lanzhou Symphony under revered Chinese conductor Zushan Bian, as well as with the Chattanooga Symphony, Williamsport Symphony Orchestra, Aspen Music Festival Orchestra, and Arizona State University Orchestra. Passionate about chamber music, Jiang has performed with many leading artists, including Itzhak Perlman, Joel Krosnick, Joel Smirnoff, David Shifrin, Natalie Clein, and the Juilliard, Shanghai, Jasper, and Parker string quartets. She has held longstanding collaborations with cellist Michael Kannen, and violinist Ying Xue with whom she has performed at Yellow Barn and in Carnegie Hall at the invitation of celebrated violinist Christian Tetzlaff. Jiang has also performed extensively with Roger Tapping, Natasha Brofsky, and Laurie Smukler, including a multi-city China tour. Jiang is artist faculty at the Kneisel Hall Festival in Maine, as well as recurring faculty at Yellow Barn, Yellow Barn’s Young Artist Program, and the Interlochen Chamber Music Camp. Other festival appearances include Ravinia, Music@Menlo, Aldeburgh, Perlman Music Program, and the Garth Newel Music Center. Curious and invigorated by collaboration, Jiang has appeared with fortepianists and Jazz improvisers, as well as with noted singers Susan Narucki, Ariadne Greif, and Lucy Fitz Gibbon. She has also worked with composers Jennifer Higdon, Jörg Widmann, Brett Dean, and Colin Matthews, and commissioned works by Zhou Tian, Juri Seo, Eric Nathan, and Daniel Temkin. A recipient of the Jack Kent Cooke Award, Jiang trained at Arizona State University, Juilliard, and New England Conservatory, under Caio Pagano, Robert McDonald, Wha-kyung Byun and Patricia Zander. She has previously taught at New England Conservatory, the Curtis Institute, and Bucknell University. Jiang currently serves as the Associate Professor of Piano and Director of Keyboard Collaborative Arts at Florida State University.
