ABOUT THE ARTISTS Patricia Surman is a Yamaha Performing Artist, Fulbright Scholar to Greece, and Professor of Flute and Director of Woodwind Studies at Metropolitan State University of Denver. An internationally active performer, educator, and scholar, she has presented recitals, concerti, masterclasses, and lectures throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, with appearances at institutions including the Venice Conservatory, the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in the Czech Republic, the State Conservatory of Greece, Baylor University, the University of Nevada–Las Vegas, and the University of North Texas. She has also been featured as a performer, clinician, and presenter at major events such as the National Flute Association Convention, Florida Flute Fair, Rochester Flute Fair, Kentucky Flute Festival, Oklahoma Flute Society Festival, and the Flute Society of Mid-South Festival. A versatile artist with a commitment to contemporary music, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the promotion of works by women composers, Surman maintains an active career as a soloist and chamber musician. Her recordings are available on the AvidSound and Centaur Records labels and on major streaming platforms, while her scholarly work has appeared in Oxford Music Online (Grove Music Online), The Flute View, Flute Talk, the International Alliance for Women in Music Journal, and other professional publications. Dedicated to teaching and mentorship, she has guided students who have gone on to successful careers as performers, educators, and arts leaders. Surman holds the Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees in Flute Performance, as well as a Master of Music degree in Musicology, from the University of North Texas, and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Redlands, where she studied with Mary Karen Clardy, Cindy Ellis, and Sara Andon. Galen Dean Peiskee, Jr. is a pianist based in Tallahassee, FL. He has performed throughout the United States as well as in Austria, Poland, Italy, Greece, Spain, Cuba, Bolivia, Peru, Canada, and the Dominican Republic. Peiskee’s playing can be heard on the CDs Bliss Point, Columbian Harmony, and Rose Music, published by Navona Records, and Magic Forest Scenes, published by Centaur Records. He has performed at conferences including Florida Flute Association, National Flute Association, International Double Reed Society, National Association of Collegiate Wind and Percussion Instructors, Navy Band Saxophone Symposium, and the North American Saxophone Alliance. He has also served as a staff pianist for the Roger Voisin Memorial Trumpet Competition and the National Trumpet Competition. Peiskee has DM and MM degrees in collaborative piano from Florida State University, and an AD and BM degree in piano performance from Texas Christian University. His teachers have included Timothy Hoekman, Read Gainsford, José Feghali, John Owings, and Sandra Siler.
