The mission of PREVIEW@FSU is to offer opportunities for readings and workshops of new musicals at various stages of development through a two-week residency on campus, culminating with two public performances. PREVIEW@FSU’s program is dedicated to developing, nurturing and producing new musicals through a collaboration between the FSU College of Music and the School of Theatre which will provide enriching opportunities for our students to be part of the development process.
IRENE KIM (Music Director) is an internationally acclaimed keyboardist whose performances have been heard across Europe, Asia, North America, and Australasia at venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and Coachella. A genre-defying artist, Irene performs on piano and harpsichord as co-founder of Brightfeather and appears regularly in Danny Elfman’s career-spanning concert productions. Deeply engaged with contemporary storytelling, she collaborates with living composers, dancers, and visual artists, bringing their works to life in world premieres in theatres and planetariums alike. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Irene holds a doctorate from the Peabody Conservatory and is a Steinway & Sons Education Partner.
FAYE CHIAO (Music) is a composer of musical theater, opera, and concert music. Chiao has received awards from The Presser Foundation and OPERA America. Chiao’s works have been commissioned, produced, and developed by The New Victory Theater, Houston Grand Opera, Opera Saratoga, Syracuse Stage, Duffy Institute for New Opera, Boston Chamber Symphony, O’Neill National Music Theater Conference, NAMT Festival of New Musicals, American Music Theatre Project, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Manhattan School of Music, Prospect Theater, and The Playwrights Realm. Chiao holds degrees from The Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University. Chiao is represented by Mark Orsini of Brett Adams.
TASHA GORDON-SOLMON (Director, Book and Lyrics) is a playwright, lyricist and director. Her plays and musicals have been developed and produced at the O’Neill National Music Theater Conference, NAMT Festival of New Musicals, American Music Theatre Project, the Humana Festival of New American Plays, Clubbed Thumb, Northern Stage, New Georges, Sun Valley Center for the Arts, The Playwrights Realm, Ars Nova, Theatre Now New York and the Colorado New Play Festival.
