Info & Costs Laxa í Kjos is the nearest top-quality river to Reykjavik, just 45 minutes from town. It drains an area of approximately 200 km2, and with its tributary, the Bug-da, has 25 km of salmon water with over 80 named pools. It has a superb variety of pools from pots and falls in its wide, shallow lower reaches, to a lovely tributary, then meadows in its middle reaches with long, smooth pools followed by a rocky, narrow canyon in its upper reaches. The salmon come to an abrupt halt at the stunning waterfall Thorofoss, 20 km from the river mouth. It also has a fan-tastic run of impressive seatrout. The lodge enjoys a beautiful view downriver to the falls.

Info & Costs The Tungnaa was a former glacial river that had been running for thousands of years but engineers from a hydroelectric plant were able to divert the glacial component away for their use, leaving a gin-clear river that is filled with brown trout and arctic char. The average size of the fish range from 3-5 pounds, but several in the 7-pound range have been landed recently. The majority of the river can be waded easily because the river bottom is black sand and earth but the lower beats can be tricky to maneuver due to the volcanic rock that was strewn around millennia ago. The Kaldakvisl River flows through the Highlands and was until recently a glacial river. The Icelandic government siphoned the glacial component for use in a hydroelectric plant leaving the crystal-clear waters as the home of Arctic char and brown trout. The volcanic surroundings and columns of basalt rock are an incredible back drop for what can be some memorable fishing in this remote part of Iceland. The river is rocky so wading can be tricky. But if you are careful you can get into position and get some productive fishing in.
