In honor of its thirtieth anniversary, we had the privilege of creating the magazine Medelanders for STE Languages. In this magazine, board members Wilfried Gradus MMO RM and Mathilde Lageman reintroduce the concept of Medelander: not a label, but an invitation to engagement. Through the stories of students, teachers, and partners, Medelanders illustrates how language builds bridges between people, cultures, and opportunities.
In the Brainport region, everything revolves around innovation, collaboration, and shared prosperity – but this can only succeed if everyone can truly take part. Language and culture are essential links in this process. STE Languages in Eindhoven has been contributing to this for decades. What began as the Philips Language Department in the 1950s has, since becoming independent in 1995, grown into a center of expertise for language, culture, and inclusion.
